My mother used to make a salad...canned pear halves(drained)on lettuce leaves. She put many spoon of mayo in each peat half, shredded cheddar on top. We loved it.
My mom, in WWII she picked up a banana salad in New Mexico. Sliced bananas, cubed cantaloupe with a dressing of peanut butter and Best Foods Mayonnaise. About 50/50. Sister Jay
I have never heard of this before! Even reading all the comments and the different "Recipes" everyone listed, it blew my mind! I will try it out of curiosity.
Oh My Stars My Mom used to make this for our dinner, we each got our own little salad on a salad plate. She cut the bananas in half and cut them lengthwise She put the bananas on some lettuce and drizzled the dressing over the banana’s and sprinkled with chopped walnuts! She also used brown sugar instead of white! I will always remember this salad but I didn’t know how she made the dressing. Thank you for the recipe I will try it your way too. It was many years ago as I am 75 😊 I love your site!!
When I was growing up my Mother made banana salad however ours was much different. Bananas ssliced lengthwise. Over this are layers of homemade butterscotch pudding and crushed salted peanuts. Then more pudding and topped with coconut. I am 88 years old. Grandma Sue in central Indiana
My husband and I just made your banana salad . I was lucky I got 2 spoonfuls out of it. He inhaled it. It was great. Love all your videos. God bless both of you for taking time out of your day to share all these delicious recipes
Have you ever used Fruit Fresh for your fruits. Sprinkle the Fruit Fresh over any fruits that tends to turn dark and it will surprise you how long you Fruit will stay normal. Fruit Fresh will be with the canning supplies.
This looks really good. I grew up on banana and mayo sandwiches, so these ingredients won't be too off for me to try! Wishing everyone a wonderful and blessed week! 🌻🌼🤗Deb from NC
My Mom made Banana Nut Salad, we have it every Easter, Thanksgiving & Christmas! Sugar, flour, Apple cider vinegar, cook till thickened. Cool dressing and pour over sliced bananas and then sprinkle chopped, salted peanuts over it! Never any left!
I just remembered another banana 'salad' that Mom used to make (when we were young). Peel your banana, cut in half lengthwise, spread peanut butter between the halves then place on a leaf of lettuce on a small plate. Open a tin of pineapple rings making one cut to drape over the banana. Drizzle some pineapple juice on top and add a spoonful of cottage cheese. Haven't thought of that for decades!
I remember something similar. Banana-mayo OR peanut butter-chopped peanuts-a sprinkle of sugar, white OR brown. ✅💜 I bet your recipe with the pineapple is good and the acid helps keep the banana from turning brown.
I remember making banana salad in Jr. High Home Economics using sliced bananas and shredded lettuce. Same type dressing. We all thought the teacher was nuts but it was so delicious. Still make occasionally.
For as long as I can remember my grandpa made this but he added crushed salted peanuts to his. I am 71 years old and that means he made this for around 68 years. It was always my favorite for all our get together. He would always put what was leftover in a bowl for me to take home. Still my favorite fruit salad but now I go another step and add a few sliced green seedless grapes to it.
Your version of the peanut salad WITH peanuts is what I grew up on...;) I'm going to be 73 so the age is about right. I'm from So. California so don't know if that's a factor or not but...we ate the salad for years and years and years...;)
I’m in my 70’s and I grew up eating banana sandwiches with. Mayo also Pineapple sandwiches with Mayo and French fry sandwiches with Mayo and ketchup , all are delicious and I still make and eat them today I also love fried egg sandwiches with Mayo !
I love this banana salad. They used to fix that when I was in junior high school in the 60s. They would just slice the banana and mix in the dressing and sprinkle with chopped pecans or walnuts. So good! Try putting nuts in the next time you make.
Yes, a lot of salads are best served like that. And it's especially pretty of you have a clear bowl and throw some fruit pieces or herb sprigs in the ice.

I make this same dressing but use diced granny smith apples instead of banana. I add a sprinkling of cinnamon. In with the apples. Sometimes I mix bananas and apples in the salad.
I glanced over at a perfectly ripe banana on the counter, and thought, ‘Why not?’. Scaled down the dressing ingredients and tried it! Wow, is it ever good! I might just take a full salad to our next Fellowship Potluck! Thanks for sharing this delicious salad!

I have actually had something similar but the bananas were sliced long way with the dressing and put on a bed of lettuce. Then a dollop of peanut butter or crushed peanuts on top. Delicious!
You're right, I'd never heard of it but it sounds good. This is very similar to my coleslaw dressing, but I use red wine vinegar for that. I'll try it both ways. I giggle when you talk about miracle whip. My dad loved miracle whip so that was all I had when I was a kid, but the first time I tried mayonnaise, it was all over but the shouting for me. Ever since I decided to try the organic bananas for only 10 more cents a pound, my whole extended family is now sold out on them. It is amazing the difference in texture, taste, shelf life....there's no going back.
I appreciate you both, sharing your little secrets. If we lived closer, I think we'd be friends...same age, sme mind-set... (great minds think alike) WWG1WGA
Me too! Started eating organic Bananas a year ago, (total better texture, lasts longer, and got my whole family never going back to pesticide treated
I’ve watched y’all go from 1000 viewers to over 36000 subs .. congratulations !! Y’all are great and I surely love y’all and share !! Too good so thank y’all ❤️❤️❤️
That looks like a great recipe
I had this as a child in the 1970s and I had forgotten about it. Thanks for bringing back this bit of nostalgia - and you're right - it is so dang good!
My Mother would put apples and raisins with the bananas. We all loved it.
I'm new to your channel and I love it I'm going to try it with just banana's and then maybe banana blue berries maybe strawberry thank you for sharing it with us ❤😊
This looks very good! All the recipes I have read in my life I never saw this one! So excited to try it! Ty
Used to be a staple at family dinners, except they poked the dressing on the stovetop, and added peanuts. One of my all time favorite dishes.
I have actually had something similar but the bananas were sliced long way with the dressing and put on a bed of lettuce. Then a dollop of peanut butter or crushed peanuts on top. Delicious!
I'm going to try this recipe thank u for sharing that recipe with me
I don't like bananas but oddly enough I want to make this for our Sunday brunch!
But it has to be Hellman's! Folks say dukes is the same, but it tastes different to me.
This is so simple. My husband is allergic to bananas unfortunately. Melissa, you are working so hard!
Oh no! I'm sorry he's allergic but perhaps you can enjoy it with family or friends sometime. We really appreciate that you've watched our video. Thank you so much for spending some time at our table!
I never heard of this in all my life.
I know I use Mayo in fruit salads but I am going to try this one thank you so much!
Me either!
Such an easy recipe. Looks so good. Thank you Melissa for all you do.
I love these people and all the recipes they share!
I grew up on Banana miracle whip and peanuts as a lunch with my grandfather at our lake house... Never had this as a salad but I will be making this tomorrow! Just starting to watch yall and so far it's been great! Thank you !
