Glad I found this video! Had a Macbook Air M1 until my wife claimed it. Ended up getting her a 12-inch Macbook. She instantly fell in love with the 2017 i5. Got my Macbook Air back finally. She won't part with it, loving the design!

They’re great little machines. Crazy that we can buy a M1 laptop today for cheaper than these came out at originally, lol.

Ordered the 2017 i5 model used for about $250. Condition was pretty good, battery capacity was sitting at around 80 percent capacity, the lcd screen has a permanent keyboard imprint that I cannot remove, other than that the keyboard is good and the Mac is solid. I also have the M3 MacBook Pro for serious work, but like you mentioned this 12 inch model is perfect for light browsing on the couch. Which is exactly what I bought it for.

I thought they fixed the keyboard imprint problem in 2017. they need to bring back the tapered design so it won't dig into my arm while I type.

@@gmailaccount4185 No, I actually read online the keyboard imprints still happen today even on the latest models Macs. So it’s really not about which model you have. I ended buying a matte screen protector for my 12 inch Mac and hardly notice it anymore.

I got one of these earlier in the year, a 2017 i5, 16GB, 512GB which makes a great secondary portable laptop! Its build and design are amazing. It’s a shame that the modern OS’s run a lot more sluggish and hot than the likes of Mojave but it is an aging device

Hi. Nice video and very informative. I have a 2016 1.1ghz 8gb RAM, 256gb storage model. Am travelling more now and used to really value the lightness of this. Can this still handle Mac versions of Outlook and Teams? recall that they took a while to start up before I finally replaced it with an M2 MacBook Air 2022. Only issue with the newer laptop is that it’s 500g heavier and I value every gram when I’m travelling!!

Thank you so much for the review! It’s very insightful! I found a 2016 i5 Macbook Retina model in a very decent condition. Do you think this Mac would still support to do an editing using Canva and VN App? (I regularly create social media content).
    Thank you:)

I thought 2016 only had “m5” not i5? But either way, it should handle Canva and VM just fine. (In fact, you can practice on some thumbnails for me!) lol. Thanks for watching.

I have this 2016 and in perfect scratch-less condition with only 39 battery cycles, just bought it and its running El Capitan, would you recommend to upgrade it to the version you are running? Or its going to chew more battery? Thanks
