Thanks for pointing out the subtle difference between using EMA as an entry signal and using it as a context/confirmation signal. More, more !

I personally never use trailing indicators. Once should be able to determine the trend with the naked eye - if you cant then I consider it sideways. I always use leading indicators, volume/momentum and price action to lead myself into a leveraged trade. If I am wrong then I scratch the trade for small loss otherwise If right I add to my trades at each buy signal whilst keeping a close eye on my winning positions and my margins

I don't disagree that the naked eye is certainly what you need to aspire to be able to be able to use, but indicators can and do help. With regards to leading vs lagging indicators, unfortunately they are all lagging as they are all based on data. some can have a predictable nature but they are still based on old information, hence me using them primarily for context.

Let me maybe give an idea that I thought about. Everything in trading is lagging. Even our analysis of support and resistance is based on what has happened to price action in the past. We predict the future based on what has happened in the past repeatedly. If the market has been trending up, we tend to ignore resistance zones, because in the past, the uptrend has needed to break resistance zones in order to continue the trend towards a bigger timeframe resistance zone. If you can't accept the fact you need past data as a tool to predict the likely future, then how does a person make money? Our goal as traders is to have our take profit orders hit. That's is basically trading in a nutshell. And we do that by buying at discount and selling at premium, keeping in mind the trend.

Thank you for your insight. It's amazing I have managed to survive the past 20 years in these markets without your help.
I sort of see what you are trying to say but you are missing a few things and have a misunderstanding of one or two.
However you seem to know best so I won't try persuade you otherwise.

@@AlexOng All I'm saying is that all our trades are taken based on historical data. I'm not targeting you specifically. When I say "you", I mean the average trader. Now you are probably profitable even without pondering the idea that all trades are taken based off past price action, but I'm just giving you some "thought food".
You can make of it what you want. At the end of the day, everyone stays in their own lane.

@@AlexOng I think you are a little too used to your comments being all "mindless happy clappy", and agreeing with literally everything you're saying. So just a little bit of intellect and perhaps some mild opposition in some aspects intimidates you. Geez, everybody is so sensitive... I understand you want to keep up the guru persona, but don't disregard something without giving it some thought. Of course, saying that "price action is also lagging" won't make a person profitable alone, but it makes one wonder, doesn't it?

@@dee23gaming that is not true and I was with you and happy to read your comment. It is just your comment went from constructive to and one that deserved debate to condescending --> If you can't accept the fact you need past data as a tool to predict the likely future, then you shouldn't be trading.
Even your most recent comment contained such a comment --> I understand you want to keep up the guru persona,
So you see a better approach is to simply state your position without the subtle but personal comments. Then a person wouldn't take it personally. At least you can consider that?
Also if you would like some constructive discussion I'd be happy to engage. But I don't think comments like I mentioned lead to healthy debates.
This is where I think we may want to start --> And we do that by buying at discount and selling at premium, keeping in mind the trend.
This needs clarification, because definition if you respect a trend and trade according to a trend then a lot of the time and a valid approach is to buy high and sell higher.
At the time you buy in, it is not a discount relative to recent price. It is only a discount based on future expectations, but future expectations are not fact in the markets, as no one knows what the next move is going to be, we can only trade within a framework and let our edge play out.

@@AlexOng Okay, well sorry if I sound a bit condescending. Just something to think about or not. But you do agree with me that trends help our take profit orders get hit, and that we need to enter on a good discount or premium (pullback) as to not get stopped out as easily? The entire chart is in fact historical data, and we take trades based on what has already happened, right? I mean, it sounds so obvious. One of the only true leading indicators could be the 10 year and 20 year US bond yields, which acts as a true leading indicator for the USD's strength and even the stock markets, but I'm not really into that sort of fundamental stuff.
Again, just maybe think about my original thought on price action being historical/lagging as well as moving averages.
I love moving averages, I love price action. I know that both record historical data.

I just came across your video and it speaks to me directly.
I use one EMA but atimes it confuses me. I normally wait for the candle to retest the EMA in a HTF to buy or sell in the LTF but instead of retesting, it crosses it by two or three candles and i will be thinking it wants to change its direction but later it continues its usual trend and then i get stopped out.
Please how can i fix this issue?
