How to Fix Twisted Car Seat Straps

  • Twisted straps are not only annoying but dangerous too. On each and every ride the harness needs to be nice and tight so it is properly securing your child and lying flat across their body. When a harness is free and clear of any twists it allows crash forces to spread evenly across your child's body and not concentrated on the location of the twist. That's life-saving stuff!
    Check out this video for a quick and easy fix to a twisted strap. The triangle trick!

    Fits perfectly rear-facing in our truck, which has a slightly smaller back seats. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx6_FKRYB2ClSPRyjcd8HptiCS3EiQoNX4 Feels as comfy and plush as our Graco Contender carseat.

      We don't want to add any more support than what came with the seat. It's been tested as is!

    So glad I found this video. Somehow, my son straps got so twisted. I didn’t think to go to the back and re-thread it again. So smart.

    Very helpful. Never thought of practicing before it became relevant. Definitely going to do that before I install my son's new convertible seat! Which will be very soon, because an annoying thing about his infant seat is that the straps are always uneven and I can't get them straightened out. I've looked all over for a twist, I've pulled the harness straps out completely, I've tightened them up completely, still one shoulder strap is looser than the other when I get him buckled in.

      Sometimes the straps are uneven when it is one continuous piece of harness (instead of 2 separate). Try buckling the straps and then pulling on both sides of the hip straps - moving more of the slack into the "short" side. Hope this helps!

    you made this look effortless for unfortunately there isn’t enough room on mine to fold (contrivance trick) and pull it through bc it’s too tight. now i’m frustrated bc i still have a fricked up buckle 😭

      If it's a rethread harness (meaning it has slots in the shell for the harness settings), you can pull the harness off of the splitter plate in the back and remove the chest clip and buckles. Take a picture of how the chest clip and buckles are threaded before doing this. You can then untwist the harness and put everything back together.

    The triangle trick also works with twisted seat belts - when the latchplate (silver part) is on the underside of the seat belt. Don't know how or why that happens with seat belts, but it does!

    What is the benefit/purpose of sliding the buckle all the way to the bottom to fix a twist?

    • @safeintheseat
      @safeintheseat  Рік тому +1

      That's just how I prefer to do it. You don't have to take it all the way to the bottom. You just need a good amount of space between the buckle and the chest clip, so you have enough harness to work with.
