I think hospital employees interacting with parents should be trained in car seat safety. The lady that helped us to our vehicle with our stuff made me think the car seat wasn't installed safely because the back end moved. Thanks for everything you do!
My wife is 38 weeks (and 5 days) pregnant. We have all done and etc. I’ve watched videos on safety previously, but today I’ve stumbled on your channel: simply AMAZING! Wow… thank you SO MUCH!
I wish I had this video before bringing my little one home! It’s so so rushed in the hospital when getting discharged. My hospital didn’t allow us to buck baby in when going to the car so we had to do everything in the car (super cramped). Love that you used a basic car seat, and mentioned to never add anything that didn’t come with the seat!!
I wish I'd had this video too! I purposely used a basic seat because we see people adding extra parts to those more frequently. And I like for people to remember that all car seats are safe when installed and used properly! 😊
Cutest baby model! Great reminders for me as I’m about to have my third. Mine are all close in age so I feel like the knowledge “shouldn’t” go away but it’s shocking how good these reminders are!
Thank you so so much for such an easy to follow yet informative and engaging video. Our baby is due in November and we had been told that our 0+ car seat wasn’t safe because it isn’t stuffed full of inserts to ‘package’ baby. We were really panicked about how they would be supported and were going to buy a whole new seat before watching this and learning that head space is okay provided the straps are correctly fitted and tight to hold baby safely. Thank you so much!
If you are using European seats, that's why you would have heard that. A lot of the Group 0+ seats have pretty tall harness slots that don't work well for newborns.
Thank you for this video! I’ve been out just a few times with my 7 week old but every time she cries, now I know what to check to make her more confortable
For my last baby. He was huge for a newborn and was on harness #3 from the hospital All my other babies were on the first slot It’s crazy that birth size can play such a factor in the harness hight
Thank you so much for this. I’m due in July and just bought this exact car seat. I was thinking I was going to need an insert but now I know I don’t need to buy anything extra
@midwestchick congratulations on your recent arrival! We are due in November 2023 and everyone keeps telling us the baby’s head needs inserts to hold them steady but our car seat is similar to the above meaning babies head appears ‘unsupported’. Have you been getting on okay with your baby not having their head ‘supported’ in the way lots of people keep saying they need to be?
@@ArronFleet I tried the first week without one but his head would always flop over. I tried the second week with a blanket to help support his head but he still appeared to be uncomfortable. It made me paranoid to drive alone with nobody in the back to keep an eye on him so I bought an insert for his head. It’s been working out great for us and he now enjoys car rides!
I love your video! This is exactly what we needed. I am already tired from thinking about arguing with my mother on why we shouldn’t be using extra padding on the car seat 😂
I remember when my first niece was that age and my mom and I were babysitting. This was before I took a car seat class. When we arrived home, I started taking her out of the seat. My mom said, "Oh, you are supposed to leave her in there because she is sleeping." I said, "But I want to hold her." When I learned the danger of that in my class, I was really glad that I wanted to hold her. Not sure why this memory has always stuck with me. I also remember after I had taken my class, when my mom was watching my 2nd niece, that I had to stop her because the bubble was not in the correct spot. I fixed it for her. Her comment was, "I never look at the bubble." And looking at pictures of me, my parents definitely increased my chance for injury with the way they had me in the car. Which makes no sense with my dad being a former paramedic. Also, my brother and his wife have done wrong at times with their daughter. It's not their fault, their CPST never told them. I also had a lady I babysat for who took a class at the hospital and was told never to attach a top tether strap. All of this to say, I am so glad you started this channel! People really need you as most CPSTs are not good. You are!
I'm glad you are here. But I just want to say that there are a lot of great CPSTS; it's just a few that aren't. I have 2 others on my team that are also amazing and I know many others as well. I promise you that there are many good ones out there!
This was so helpful! I have a 9 month old and started thinking I might be making it too tight but i'm going to try the reverse pinch test next car ride to be sure it's fine.
I'm glad you found it helpful! The reverse pinch test is a great way to check. I was definitely guilty of making it too tight when my kids were younger; it's easy to do!
our carseat is in a LESS reclined position when installed. everything is green - perfectly aligned and we've checked 20 times. he's sitting too upright in my opinion but the carseat is properly installed.
If you are concerned, feel free to schedule a consult with us or you can see if the car seat manufacturer offers video chats. A handful of them do offer that service.
Now that winter is here, I’m having a hard time finding a liveable way to buckle my 3-wk old in with adequate clothing but no bulk. I can’t just have him in his regular clothes and a blanket until we get to the car because it’s too cold. What can I do to keep him warm yet safe in the seat? I know bundlemes are not safe
Could you do a follow up video on installing the Evenflo Nurture Max base into the car? I just recently bought the Nuture Max to use for my step grandchildren when I babysit. I'm having trouble with the level line for the base though.
Great video! I learned how to check the shoulder harness slots, but how about slots for the leg harness? My Evenflo car seat also has two sets of slots for the leg harness. Thanks~
It's ok, but unnecessary. Babies do not need to be immobilized. We usually only use rolled blankets for very small preemies or infants with special needs.
I'll have to try the reverse technique sometime. I always just do the reguar test. Also, I've never done this, but my 🚗 manual says that if you can fit more than 1 finger under the straps, it's too loose. Is that a third way to test?
Thank you for this video. We got a doona for our second, and i just don't like how she looks in it. She seems like she is really sitting up and is very squished looking.
@@safeintheseat we do. I did adjust a little. And it is a little better. I am just so nervous about car seats and new babies! Haha. I worry until they have full head control.
If you mean how to change the harness height, it varies a bit by seat. But you can find out how to change yours by reading the manual that came with your seat.
Hello! I also have this Evenflo nurture max car infant car seat. Do you happen to know which stroller is compatible for me to just pop the rear facing car seat straight onto? First time mom here & 32 weeks pregnant so I'm trying to get everything ready for our babygirl ❤
The NurtureMax isn't officially compatible with any strollers. However, there are some strollers that have universal adapters so you may have luck with those. Mountain Buggy Nano has worked with every seat I've ever tried in it, so it would be one of your best bets. Baby Trend Snap N Go may be another option to try.
It’s unclear how you prevent the baby’s neck from dropping forward. we have a Nuna pipa lite and our daughter is 7 lbs. I’m unable to get her in a correct position where her neck is free and she’s able to breath properly
Thank you for the video! Have I always been over tightening my harnesses? This sweet boy's harness still looks loose. I do the pinch test and this one looks like it could still be pinched! Can you help me better understand this? I want to make sure I'm not unnecessarily tightening the harness too snug.
Try doing the reverse punch test if you are worried about over tightening. Purposely pinch the harness at the collarbone and then pull the tightening strap until it slides out of your pinch
The seat in this video, Evenflo NurtureMax, is not officially compatible with any strollers. But you may have luck with something like the Mountain Buggy Nano, which is pretty universal.
You'll have to check your manual. There are a few different ways the handle can move, and the manual will show you how to move it and what positions the handle can be placed in.
Car seats that are made to fit newborns recline to about a 45-degree angle. This is fine for riding in the vehicle. But I always tell caregivers to remove the child once they get to their destination.

I'm glad you found it helpful!
So glad you did a focus point on the slack in the legs! That is what I teach first to a parent with a new little one to pull tight at the legs!
Definitely! This is a common mistake that we see happen.
You make such high quality and educational videos!!! So impressed with every video!!! Thank you for helping us keep our babies safe!!!

Great video! I learned how to check the shoulder harness slots, but how about slots for the leg harness? My Evenflo car seat also has two sets of slots for the leg harness. Thanks~
Check the manual, each seat has different rules
How to bend the car seat handle?
For this seat, you push the handle downwards and then move it to the desired position
I never realized movibgng thier legs down to remove slack is helpful. Is rolled blankets along the body still ok?!
It's ok, but unnecessary. Babies do not need to be immobilized. We usually only use rolled blankets for very small preemies or infants with special needs.

No, it's not as accurate since everyone has different-sized fingers, so we don't use that method.
Thank you for this video. We got a doona for our second, and i just don't like how she looks in it. She seems like she is really sitting up and is very squished looking.
I hope you found the video helpful. Make sure you have the base reclined properly.

How did you move the Handel I been trying for months and it's no button or anything the move it
You push it downward and then move to the desired position
I would like.to see how to readjust the straps

What if my car seat doesn’t have a chest clip? ( carestino deluxe v2)
That seat is designed to be used without one. Just make sure the harness is coming from at or below the shoulders and that the harness is tight.

How do you adjust the handle on this model?
You push the handle down and then rotate it to the desired position

I agree!
Thanks

Bless yours too
And if you have a hard time with that dreaded red button, get an unbuckleme omg life changing!
Those are great!
What if the babies head flops around tho are you not supposed to put something behind they’re heads to support it?
This baby is fine as is. There is no need to immobilize a newborn's head
The head is not gonna snap when accident incur?
Definitely not!
Very helpful!
Thanks for watching!
How you move the handle im trying and I canttttt
See if there are buttons on each side of the handle near where it connects to the car seat. Press both at the same time to rotate
Is it OK for a newborn to actually SEAT? I mean they say infants should not be put in a sitting position until they are 6 months old
Car seats that are made to fit newborns recline to about a 45-degree angle. This is fine for riding in the vehicle. But I always tell caregivers to remove the child once they get to their destination.
My Bart Simpson plush has been car seat model for a while
Any small plush works well!
Promise me this ....that u will 1st practice with a teddy bear.....yo friends baby😂🤣
A friend's baby is way better than a teddy bear! Cuter, too!
Didn’t even show how to put the carry handle down. Not good at all. 1/10
This video is about buckling in a newborn, not about how to use this specific infant seat
