I was there with several metal-head friends from Monterey and the Bay Area. I was 16 years old. Its was an incredible day. Last day of Summer scorching hot. I was in front of the sound tent when Creeping Death started. Great memories. I wish I could go back in time. Thanks for posting this. @6:10 im some where in that mess. Days LONG GONE........
I was 12 years old and there on the floor. First time seeing Metallica. Cliff had my attention right away. His hair flailing in the wind while whipped his head. My older friends dragged me to the floor just for them. They kicked ass the rest of the show was yngwie malmsteen , ratt, scorpions, and I forget a couple. Bad ass Oakland used to have the day on the green all the time.... Till someone got shot
I learned to play bass 39 years ago, playing kill em all, ride, and puppets. Then Cliff died on my 16th birthday. :( But now, every birthday, I get the gift of another reason to remember Cliff. :)
If I remember correctly, I read Somewhere (Might have been in the MoP book) that Cliff woke up late and almost missed the show. Apparently he got there just minutes before they went on. And he still RAGED LIKE A MADMAN! Damn, Cliff was AWESOME!
@@mr.b4686people rag on him because he never progressed, he stayed the same, and his playing style stayed the same, look at other drummers in the thrash metal genre, like the king Dave Lombardo who went from playing a single kick in slayer's haunting the chapel, to going to double bass, not just going double bass, but killing double bass, look at Charlie benonte as well, those guys progressed, and took thrash drumming to new heights, Lars is good for what he does but he just got complacent, and lazy. @metalmacabre9991 what he does and his style fits Metallica perfectly. He compliments the songs well. They don't need a drum guru behind the kit that isnn't, and never was, what Metallicas about.
I was at this show. We drove from Sacramento in the back of my buddy's truck.......just to see Metallica playing to their local crowd...hahaha. There were at least three or four pits. Awesome time. Then drove down to Santa Cruz that night and partied on the beach.
Wow. I was there. We arrived just as Metallica started as they were an opener. The audience clearly loved them and they had a devoted following. They were followed by Y&T who were awful and got no respect. Ratt and The Scorpions followed and while popular represented a dying breed. The torch had clearly passed.
This is it , Metallica in their best shape on a legendary Gig !! What a pleasure ! R.i.P to Cliff , you will never ever forgotten !! Many thx for share !! 🙏👍🤘👏🫂🤞🍀♾️
That would be cool to have been there. When the camera pans to the crowd you'd see yourself. I was 6 and in fairfield ca when metallica was still magical like this.
What kind of cut jeans did James wear during the mid 80’s? I noticed that it’s like a skinny straight jean that is barely scrunched on the bottom so I was wondering where I can find them.

I didn’t see you but me and my friends were are part of that mess from days gone by 🤘
Too bad that it was hard for the camera to pick up the sound from kirks guitar, hard to hear him play
You're a fuckin' witness of this great moment in Metallica's history!!! Awesome man!!!
What I would give to be able to go back in time for this concert... so sick! Rest in peace Cliff

Best Metallica concert in my opinion
“Do you all know Cliff Burton over here?”
"Hi cliff"
*bass shredding intensifies*
"everyone, Hi Cliff! how ya doin!"

FINALLY somebody bothers to do this properly! The only one on UA-cam was a crappy edit!
Cliff was the "special sauce" of Metallica. It pains me to wonder what could have been 😢
Cliff was the hypeman, you can see he was really getting into it

This is way better than the other 60 fps versions of this concert
@404TVfrwell that’s the thing the other one was even waxier
@404TVfr the metro one or the day on the green? I can’t find it
@404TVfrbuddy thinks we're talking about him 😂
someone throws something and james giving him the middle finger XD 17:10 - 17:11

We do!
hold my beer 🍺
Fuck YEAH!!!!!

All metal fans are listening and enjoying this pivotal metal band ….
Awesome. My favourite metallica performance ever, i think. Thanks.
Still wish Kirk's guitar was louder tho.

It is fascinating just to watch Cliff's fingers play that bass. Man, he had fast hands.

Embarrassing what they have become

The good thing is you can barely hear kirk 😅
lmaooo
Listen to that really deep, low-set harmonizer on Cliff’s vocals for the ‘Die…. Die…. Die…. parts on Creeping Death! Sounds awesome!
I fucking love this"FUCKING RIDE THE LIGHTNING!!!"
I remember being at this show. Ratt and Scorpions were magic that day.
Metallica was just up and coming.
the scorpions were unbelievable at this time. Best band in the world then. Didn't receive the recognition because they were not from US or UK

theres more gain in james voice than in his guitar
Thank you for upload this. So sad there's missing professional video recordings from this concert.
Damn cliff and James had a great fit for this show
Do you have the Yngwie Malmsteen concert at that same show?..Thanxs
All I remember was him swinging his guitar around his shoulder every 30 seconds ...😂
the only footage on youtube is a liiitle part from far beyond the sun ( and him swinging his guitar as the other comment said hahaha )
Guys , buy aria bass ? Not aria pro but aria bass
why is nobody talking about the guitar sound in Ride the Lightning? or the rest of the show? wtf happened 😭
