This is one of my favourite films of all time. People often gripe about the historical accuracy, but when a movie makes you this emotional, gets you so invested in the Scottish uprising. I get sad, I get angry, I get goosebumps every-time they absolutely savage them in the first battle. What a classic. I mean, yeah, theoretically it would've been pretty terrible, but at the same time there's no actual historical evidence this practice was ever enforced or used in Scotland. Though if it was, it would've been abolished by the time of Wallace (approx. 1270) some 200 years prior by King Malcolm III and replaced with Merchet, which is more or less a wedding fine/dowry that serfs would have to pay their local lord for the right to wed, typically a father or brother would pay this though occasionally women would take on this payment through indentured servitude. If anything this was more of a propagandistic tactic the Scots used against the English since Prima Nocta never existed in England.

The Norwegian King Haakon IV decided that it was time to rein in the Scots and consolidate power instead of letting Scotland, his land rule as they wish on their own right under his own nose. So he sent an army to surprise the Scots, a move that wasn't conducted since the Viking age a few centuries back. The Norwegian soldiers were ordered to sneakily approach a Scottish fort near their shore landing in the night. Hence the commander gave the order to remove their boots and shoes so that they can lower their sound signature as they close in. Little did they know that Scotland, ain't Norway. While they were approaching the fort, one of the Norwegians let off a loud howl as he stepped on a thistle. Alerting the Scottish guards as they gathered men and lead a counter attack to defeat the "vikings". Some decades later the Scottish king during William Wallace's early years, declared the thistle the national flower. The movie symbolizes the personification of the national flower, in William Wallace. @@kayra2444 Actually, Viking is a term about a profession. Not particularly a matter of faith although the original faith of the Vikings were in the pantheon of Norse gods. Basically, sea faring, raiding, fishing and trading. This form of lifestyle was predominant among the Scandinavians during the dark ages. It was also a time where the nations of Scandinavia was becoming more formalized with the countries of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The very interesting thing is that the Vikings only started to go on more expansive raids starting 793AD. Before that, they were recluse to their own lands, being traders in general where the mighty Frankish empire kept them in check for sometime. Once the rule of Charlemagne was over, the Frankish Empire did not stay as one giant empire of France, Germany, Italy.......it was divided among 3 sons, like in old Frankish Germanic custom of inheritance. Now that threw everything into confusion and in competition, leaving borders weakened. That was when we see the Vikings foray into all of Europe, from dominating the Anglo Saxon British isles (including Scotland), to sieging Paris and Hamburg Germany and even founding new principalities like the new Russian nation. In fact, the many travels of the Vikings who by their trade required to go far and wide, actually expanded their view of the world, educated them, changed them. Hence the Rus later on were known as Russians, where a small band of vikings assimilated and governed the local Slavs as one people. Yes, I hope they do "Hacksaw Ridge". This film is so good but also so brutal and sad and I bet they would be drenched in tears by the end. :) I could not stand more than 2 times watching of this as it was too exhausting emotionaly.
Oh Hannah you are definitely descended from Scottish Highland Warriors. It’s all over you. Legitimately and verified by lineage and DNA genealogy, I am also. By a large percentage. Which means we’re related maybe ??? 😂🤣 In at least my top three all time favorite films, and maybe my very favorite. Could not love it more. It does something to me every time I watch it too. Yes I cry, but it’s more than that. It Stirs something deep in my soul. An inspiration I think. A reminder to always have the heart of a Lion, and to never stop standing up against injustice, never stop striving for the good the right and the true, and settle for convenience and complacency or apathy towards tyranny. Stand up, and fight against injustice with your Brave Heart. And never surrender. They may take our lives, but they will never take our freedom. An epic and utter masterpiece rooted in real history, despite the huge liberties taken for the sake of storytelling, and yeah, think it’s my favorite film.
She says whatever random stuff she wants freely, yet every single time he says anything she's telling him to shut up, stop, don't do that or you'll ruin the experience, and countless other variants of telling him to hush. Then she has the nerve to ask him if he's alright today? As if she wasn't the one being completely unreasonable and out of line. Unbelievable.
I adore this movie. And the score I’m pretty sure I saw it at least four time in its theatrical run. I have seen many Warhammer armies painted and converted to match. Some were amazing!

So the legacy of the Vikings is much more than just the pantheon of gods, but rather an incredible journey, an epic journey of 300 years of immensely rich cultural diversity and learning and warfare.
@@ConstantineJoseph amazing.. are you a historian of some sort?
@@kayra2444 I'm not a historian but rather an engineer and a businessman. However history is one of my favorite subjects so happy to share the knowledge I've learnt from others.
By the way are you Russian?
@@ConstantineJoseph No, but since I've seen many using the Ukraine flag to show "solidarity" with Ukraine, I thought I should also show solidarity with Russia.
I must say, I'm very upset at the fact that NATO and the rest of the west are censoring Russian culture... can you imagine they censored tchaikovsky?! Can you even imagine!! Who tf censors classical music?!!!
7:43 it’s actually a Scottish thistle, but it’s the sentiment that counts
Part 1?! DANG... it was just getting started!!!
I'm late watching this (i know) BUT! Ya'll have to watch Legends of the Fall!
What a love story and FULL of action! 💚💚💚
“You have asthma” lollllll so out of pocket
😂😂
This first part was a golden reaction. The reaction between you two is comedy even when not spoken
Don't know I you remember, but back before Christmas I commented that here in NC, USA I was going home, while my boy and brother-from-another-mother had to stay for a few more treatments. Well....WE'RE WATCHING THIS VIDEO RIGHT NOW IN FRONT OF MY FIRE PLACE!!!! He beat it (of course he did; he's Stone Cold). Hope you all had a good holiday season. Me personally? I've got a new Christmas to celebrate each year. Love you; love your channel; love your family. Salam from us.
I remember and know ash definitely would too!
I don’t normally comment much but this is far, far, far too amazing not to!

@@justtrustash Every man dies but not every man really LIVES!!!!!
@@donttrusthannah You're the best, sweetest, favorite of the favorites. Fellow ginger here (it's growing back already). You give us smiles for days. 💖
That Savage old man that was fighting with a arrow in his chest , and got his hand cut off in battle , was Jon Snow's Lord Commander of Nights Watch.
As I am Scottish, if the girl in this video didn’t say a word. I wouldn’t bat an eyelid if someone told me she was a Scottish lass.
Hahaha I always said to her she must have some sort of Scottish in her..we will find out soon
@@justtrustash But Boudicca wasn't from Scotland lol
Mel Gibson is a global treasure. I am so glad you are finally doing this movie, one of my all time favourites. The music is absolutely fantastic (RIP James Horner)
Now you'll have to get Wallace's sword in you collection :D
After this I hope you'll watch two other Mel Gibson movies: Hacksaw Ridge and Apocalypto. Both are amazing and brutal.
Yes, I hope they do "Hacksaw Ridge". This film is so good but also so brutal and sad and I bet they would be drenched in tears by the end. :) I could not stand more than 2 times watching of this as it was too exhausting emotionaly.
I doubt he's a global treasure. Unless you want to forgive his misogynism, anti-semitism and alcholism. That's a lot of ism's!
@@taylort5672 Imagine believing that crap. You sound insane.
@@ernestp3418 its not hard to find the facts if you care to look. You sound deluded!
@@taylort5672 you forgot racism. And its not an ism, but he’s made some homophobic comments too.
Oh Hannah you are definitely descended from Scottish Highland Warriors. It’s all over you. Legitimately and verified by lineage and DNA genealogy, I am also. By a large percentage. Which means we’re related maybe ??? 😂🤣
In at least my top three all time favorite films, and maybe my very favorite.
And the score
I’m pretty sure I saw it at least four time in its theatrical run.
I have seen many Warhammer armies painted and converted to match. Some were amazing!
"What is that a nunchuck!" LMFAO I caouldnt stop laughing!!!
Bro you two are adorable. And this is the movie I have seen more than 10 times and still love to this day
One of my favorite movies of all time. I’m so happy your reacting to it!!!!!!!!

Didn't recognize Ash for a few minutes there. . . :-D
Great reaction!
20:36 Absolutely Priceless.
Braveheart is such an Epic Movie.
🎵Hello Darkness My Old Friend ☠️☠️☠️🤣🤣🤣
The music is so precious. It is still in my top 10 soundtracks of all time.
Oh, I just adore this couple - they have such good vibes :)
Hahaha love you mate!
The back and forth between you two is gold! Just gold! Watching Hannah looking at Ash made this viewer think, "You can take the Iranian out of Iran, but you can't take the Iran out of the Iranian." Just hilarious.
"Let me just fart before it starts" Is literally how I feel about any car ride. I got you, girl.
This was fantastic, so glad youse guys watched it together : D one of my fave movies growing up i would watch it over and over and draw as many kills from this movie as i could : P
The flower is a thistle. Love from Ireland

The boss and I have been together 30 years.
We fight like you two. 😁
one of the best soundtracks ever made
Finally there's a couple who snaps at each other and isn't lovey-dovey-always-agreeing like the vast majority of other reacting couples. I haven't seen this kind of a reaction since game of thrones. Refreshing.
Certified badass classic film.
That weapon that William first used was a type of flail that happens to resemble a nunchaku.
10:50 made me laugh so damn hard. That was hilarious.
Appreciate it you legend ❤️
Dude! This was an amazingly entertaining reaction. The banter between you two is gold. I was laughing a lot. Well done.
😄love the Boudicca stuff,bit,brilliant!😄
So excited for this!!!!!!🤩🤩
You legend! Thank you for watching mate ❤️
Yeees love you guys! Been WAITING for this! LETS GOO!!
13:33 That look from Hannah was priceless! xD Internally screaming "WHY DON'T YOU TALK TO ME LIKE THAT!!!" hahahahaha
You need to watch The Last of the Mohicans, Gladiator, Heat, They ARE EPIC as this movie.
Please consider reacting to BRUISED (Halle Berry directs & stars in) and/or THE HARDER THEY FALL (modern western) Both are on NETFLIX. Another great review. You two are hilarious.
Bagpipes are wild. When you blow into it you aren't playing it you're filling the bag with air and squeezing it releases the air. So unlike most instruments where your breath and vibration is the sound for bagpipes its just the fuel.
Mate we need part 2 FAST!!!!!
Yes mate!!

If you remember when the king declared “ prima nocta” The phrase prima nocta, based on the Latin “first night,” is a shortened and corrupted from jus primae noctis, “right of the first night where a lord sleeps with the pride on her first night and longshanks basically wanted to scare the rest of the Scott’s so one would marry and the won’t have any kids
Hanna has the blood of Wallace ash! See the way she speaks!!! William will be proud of her. More power on you both, you & Hanna’s Chemistry are amazing-!!!! Godbless you both
Haha imagine if she’s related to him, she will legit end up in a documentary..thank you for the love and support mate ❤️

It's so strange to see people asking why they would let them see the body? This is life...this is real....these things happen everyday. Coddling your children from everyday norms of life is bizarre and offputting. Not to mention, dangerous and promotes ignorance.
Damn! Let's go part 2!!!
Ash: look At this 👀
Hannah: look at this 😒
You guys are made for each other 😂
Loved the edits, had me crackin' up.
Boudica or Boadicea was the queen of the "British" Iceni tribe in northern and eastern Scotland was the Picts and red hair was pretty common all over the UK and Ireland back then and to be honest i would be proud to be from anywhere in the UK and Ireland, The Iceni , the Picts , the Gaels and the Celts gave the Romans a hard time and in England and Ireland we was not known as Barbarians that was mainly Germanic tribes.
Awesome reaction so far, damn y'all had me laughing too😂 Can't wait for part 2!!
