It is the grand scale of this war epic that leaves such an impression on you: The rousing speeches, the powerful music, the personal drama, as well as the drama on the greater stage. They can, but from that height it would probably get a mouthful and drown quickly. A human can tip over in the air and still right themselves in water, a horse would just get confused and drown.

1:39 There was a contemporary of Wallace’s named Black Douglas. The English found out he was staying at his hunting lodge in the middle of the woods with some of his men. The English sent a considerable force in to kill or capture Black Douglas. None of them made it out of the forest.
This is why I watch you two. Seeing you guys go through the same roller coaster of emotion I did all those years ago brought me right back there. "Every man dies, but not every man truly lives." Edit: I'm Scottish, by the way.. so this particular story resonates with me pretty hard!
hey Ash, not castrated although they may have done it as well but mostly they were cutting open his belly and pulling his intestines out. If you notiiced, before the torture, the mime comics were showing it to the people gathered in their little act what could transpire step by step.
You know, this honestly reminded me of a similar reaction to The Last Samurai, only Ash and Hannah's reactions were reversed in that movie when it seemed to hit Ash harder than Hannah. It's good that these types of movies hit people in the feels. Doesn't matter how historically accurate they are or not. It helps us to remember our past and should make us feel happy we live in this time period, as shitty as it can be sometimes. They should also serve as valuable lessons we as a species should have learned by now, but we obviously haven't. We just kill people from miles away or from across the globe now, instead of with swords and bows and arrows.
The sword Wallace uses in this movie is called a Claymore. It is nearly 5ft (140cm), which was nearly as tall as the person wielding it. It could generate a massive amount of force and even kill an armored foe
@Gerald H Indeed, the traditional 'Scottish Claymore' was a single edged sword with a basket guard reminiscent of a cutlass or sabre. Much of this movie was style rather history; just as the claymore isn't Scottish, so too the Bagpipes you hear throughout aren't either.
I say this to everyone but if you liked this, the perfect follow up movie is Outlaw King, it follows Robert the Bruce and his continuation of Wallace's campaign.
Such a powerful tale!! Your good lady, Hanna has such an incredible heart! There is no weakness nor shame in her tears. They are merely a manifestation of good will! God Bless you both! Thank you for sharing!!
The first battle was filmed on the Curragh in Co. Kildare Ireland. I worked with the paymasters office at the location and there was no CGI. A thousand men were used.
I feel for Hannah. At the end one of the tortures was him being disemboweled. Basically opening up his stomach and pulling out his intestines. Real brutal torture method.
@@AlexGraphicD yep. The entire torture method was called "hanged, drawn, and quartered". Started with the victim being pulled by horses to be hanged to the point of near death, then disemboweled, castrated, beheaded, and finally the body would be dismembered
Thank you guys! I'm tired of watching reactions to this and crying like a big fat man baby and the reactors not crying. So thank you both Hannah almost cried as much as me and the guy (Ash?) teared up. So thank you. Also we think a like as far as who needed to be put in the ground. Thank you!
Oh my gosh her smile at 21:21 jsut warmed my heart. 💓 Naw don’t edit out your passion Hannah, it’s awesome! You and ash both! It’s what makes your reactions so amazing.
Hannah gets it...I STILL, even after I have seen this movie so many times that I can recite it...I still tear up at the end. To be a man of such action and conviction, and to yell "FREEEEDOOOOOM" with your dying breath just hits people of conviction directly in the heart. All of the historical and timeline inaccuracies aside, this movie will always be in my top 5. Also, you give Robert the Bruce a bit too much slack--you must remember that it was a different time, and he was hiding the fact that his father was sickly and dying by abiding by his wishes. He was a puppet in this movie, until he finally found the courage to tell his dad to basically piss off, and then he truly did, historically speaking, lead Scotland to their independence.
Freedom isn't free...I got emotional with your girlfriend's reaction at the end...she saw the oppression, injustice that people went through, the horrors of war and sacrifice made for freedom...she is genuinely grateful for the freedom her ancestors fought for...
You two are incredible. I'm loving your reactions, and this is my favorite one yet. Amazing movie, which I've seen about 10 times, but your reaction brought new life to it. Thanks for your pure and authentic responses to so many great films.
English archers actually had to be rather tall (by the day), as their longbow- which dominated medieval battlefields for centuries as the superior ranged weapon- required a good reach.
I occasionally follow UA-cam channels on medieval weapons, and reputedly those war bows were 100 pounds.A man had to,be in superb shape just to draw one and shooting one accurately took a LOT of training.
One of my favorite movies...this...unforgiven...the warriors...road warrior series....300....the gladiator....death wish series....Excalibur....I have a few more ...used cars ....and captain Ron lol
When I was younger, before a Scotland v England football game they put this on in the pub. That was a crazy day haha. I loved, loved, loved your reaction to this. You two are hilarious, sweet and such a lovely caring couple. I think this might be my favourite ever UA-cam 'react' video I have ever watched. Hope Hannah has recovered.
There is one quiet interesting film, The Outlaw King, `bout Robert the Bruce becoming a Scottish king; not for reaction, but you could watch it, also another good portrayal of Edward Longshanks, the Hammer of Scots
Hanna needs to come back and keep doing these with you. You guys make a good team up for these reactions. Seen several of your videos up till now but you guys as a pair made me sub.
Yeah i just dont watch if she is not in... they make such a good pair... he is so into manly stuff... and she just wants some romantism... and him not paying attention and giving it... hilarious... But she is into them...
Historical inaccuracies aside I'll maintain this is an absolute masterpiece of movie making, one that is more effective than nearly any other in making you feel the stakes of revolution and what it would mean in both the high and low moments to fight and die with your countrymen for the cause of liberty and dignity. Still the best battle scenes I've ever seen
In this movie, he only betrayed him once. The father set up the second betrayal . Remember, Wallace , thought Robert should be king and believed in him. He forgave his betrayal and still went to meet with him.
I don't think William's relationship with the princess happened as soon after Murron's death as it feels in the movie. We're so used to our timescales today where we get to and from places rather quickly, but back in those days the series of events portrayed between his wife's death and the scene where he's intimate with the princess would've been, at minimum, many months or even years. Moving armies around in those days was very slow as generally only the generals and a small % of men would've had horses even. That means armies walked. So the battles and the sacking of York and the back-and-forth of messengers and envoys would've taken a great deal of time. So I don't think it was at all like his wife just died-it had been a long time (and he'd seen the deaths of many of his friends) before he bumped uglies with the princess. I say we give him a pass. 😉
He wouldn’t of even met the princess she was only 10 when wallace died. Wallace died in 23 aug 1305, longshanks died in 1307 and princess isobella came over in 1308 so never even met longshanks and was only 13 and had her first son in 1312
You asked what they were doing to William Wallace. He was hanged, drawn and quartered. Which means he was strangled by hanging, but released while he was still alive, emasculated, eviscerated and his bowels burned before him, beheaded, then cut into four parts. (From google)
You two have become my favorite reaction channel! Couple of ideas for the future: -Thunderheart -Smoke Signals -What Dreams May Come -Good Will Hunting -13th Warrior
I HIGHLY recommend you watch "Gladiator" starring Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix. That was also an epic movie with great battle scenes, graphic violence, evil empires, etc. Think you'd really love it if you haven't seen it already; plus the acting is superb! Always love your reactions! Also, The Passion of the Christ is another great film (directed by Mel Gibson) depicting Jesus' life, arrest and crucifixion. Don't know what your faith is, but you did bring up Jesus and Judas in this reaction, so it brought it to mind.
Ash! You know how to make a Scotsman smile! Thank you for part 2 I will acknowledge you as an honorary Scotsman and Hannah can be a CELT if she wants, I think I can see you both registering for Scottish citizenship soon haha You should give it to yourself to rent a kilt and wear it one day! Best feeling ever Love you both! My favourite reaction couple ❤
"I think I can see you both registering for Scottish citizenship soon haha" If Scoxit happens I'm yeeting across the border from Cumbria. This country is the dregs at the moment 😅
I live on the outskirts of Stirling and i love the history of this story with Wallace. The scenery here is amazing and those of us who live here should appreciate it each and every day that we have the freedom we do today. If you ever visit here, definitely visit The national Wallace Monument built among the fields of where he fought. I see it outside my window every day and it still amazes me. Great reaction.
I can't count how many times I've seen this movie, and I still have man tears every time. They released this movie when I was 17. One of my still friends and I went to see it 6x in the theater. Then they released it again in December for the Oscar's. Saw it in 70mm 3x. It's not historically accurate, but that isn't what it's about.
The execution scene when you were asking what was happening is called drawn and quartered. After hanging and being put on the rack, the intestines are drawn out of the body and burned. Then the body is decapitated and cut into quarters. It was widely believed to be the most brutal form of execution at the time.
What they did to him was so horrible, not just intestine, even his private part been burn and cut while he was still alive just to tortured him..... i can't imagine what that feel like
Near the end, when they strapped him to the table and you couldn't see what was going on, they cut open his stomach and were pulling his intestines out while he was still alive. They did everything they could to break him, but couldn't do it.
At the end, when you both asked "What are they doing to Wallace?" (referring to the torture scene), its actually explained to the public just before he was dragged to the table. Remember the dwarves acting and mocking Wallace? Then they proceed to reenact what was ABOUT to happen to him during torture? They pretty much show in detail how the butcher was about to remove his intestines from his tummy, disembowing him alive.
Poor Hannah, I'm really sorry for her. This movie really cuts deep, game of thrones level of betrayal, but it's worse cuz it actually happened. Anyway, great reaction. And I swear your beard visibly grew a notch while watching Braveheart.
Im here in the states, and my first job in college was at the movie theatre, and Braveheart showed. We had people walk out by the violence to both man and horses, passout and need medical treatment for the stress. Your reaction brings me back to this movie being so raw and viceral. Im w/ you Hannah, in my Native traditions, the man directs the relationship in the beginning, but after marriage... the women owns your world and beyond.
This movie provided evidence of Ash and his maturation in dealing with his temper. I fully expected Ash to shed tears from his profoundly sensitive heart as he has in other recent films, (Interstellar, The Last Samurai, etc., ) however, it is my assertion, that Ash's particular and severe disdain for betrayal made every effort to boil him over the top with anger but Ash's maturity along with his having to console Hannah, combined together enabled Ash to win his battle over his temper resulting in distracting him from having to deal with tears like Hannah shed. I would've put money on your shedding many tears during the final moments of Wallace's torture and would have been glad to lose it all for seeing your victory over your temper and proper dealing with your anger & disgust for the betrayals Wm. Wallace suffered from his own countrymen. I believe, if you ever re-watch this movie in years to come, you will find yourself shedding tears.
I love how well written and beautiful this message is mate! To add to your point..I think for me, last samurai and interstellar for me delved way deeper into the relationships and it was less about the action, which ultimately hit me way harder..but this movie just frustrated me with the level of betrayal towards a brother, but yh thank you for this message mate ❤️

Yes, your connection to both actor and character in Interstellar was instrumental in your deep immersion and emotial investment, along with your profound appreciation for the "Father-Daughter" relationship, resulting in your permitting yourself to experience and show your uninhibited emotions even whilst being recorded for others to view, something I commend you for and applaud your candor. My favorite movie. It still to this day, brings a tear to my eye and I've saw modern combat in war. This is such a great movie. Your guys emotions are what I felt too. You both are warriors in your hearts because of how it touched you. You have to remember too, a LOT of time passes in this movie. Before he slept with the Princess, YEARS had passed. We only saw a short stint.
One: There was quite a bit of time between the death of his wife and his romance with the princess. Two: "What are they doing to him?" They're disemboweling him. They cut open his belly and pulled his intestines out. If you watch the dwarves during their little play, they show you what's going to happen. The rope they're pulling on is meant to be intestines. This movie was directed by Mel Gibson. If you'd like to see another great movie directed by him, I would suggest Apocalypto.
Pretty much no CGI in this Ash, they mixed in mechanical horses with real ones for any horse injury scenes, that stuntman really jumped his horse from that castle into the lake, loved seeing both your reactions in this part 2, love all your videos bro, my favorite quote in this movie is "its all for nothing if you don't have freedom". “He’s got some great legs on him though”
“Alright maaaate”
Laughing my ass off
Hahaha appreciate you mate, thank you for watching ❤️
1:39 There was a contemporary of Wallace’s named Black Douglas. The English found out he was staying at his hunting lodge in the middle of the woods with some of his men. The English sent a considerable force in to kill or capture Black Douglas. None of them made it out of the forest.
This is why I watch you two. Seeing you guys go through the same roller coaster of emotion I did all those years ago brought me right back there. "Every man dies, but not every man truly lives." Edit: I'm Scottish, by the way.. so this particular story resonates with me pretty hard!
Alba gu bràth!
hey Ash, not castrated although they may have done it as well but mostly they were cutting open his belly and pulling his intestines out.
If you notiiced, before the torture, the mime comics were showing it to the people gathered in their little act what could transpire step by step.
Starts with castration, then disembowelling, feeding the intestines into a fire while the sufferer is still alive.
You know!!! I think for me last samurai just had a more brotherly love than brave heart, they explored their friendship more, which got me haha!
Y'all show the truest emotions and you actually pay attention and show you are. You are fkn amazing.
"never seen a man's head smashed in like that" love Hannah's reactions🤣
The sword Wallace uses in this movie is called a Claymore. It is nearly 5ft (140cm), which was nearly as tall as the person wielding it. It could generate a massive amount of force and even kill an armored foe
@Gerald H Indeed, the traditional 'Scottish Claymore' was a single edged sword with a basket guard reminiscent of a cutlass or sabre. Much of this movie was style rather history; just as the claymore isn't Scottish, so too the Bagpipes you hear throughout aren't either.
"Aye, I know you can fight, but its our wits that make us men"
35:48 .. Many people ask what they are doing there. This form of torture is called disembowelment. The "little ones" in a scene before alluded to it.
Nice one to the two best hairstyles on UA-cam😎
I think we need to hear more of Hannah's Scottish accent - her "helicopter" was well on point😄
The smirk at “raw and uncut”…. 😂😂
"FREEDOOOOOOOMMMMMM"!!!!
It'll get you everytime.
The first battle was filmed on the Curragh in Co. Kildare Ireland. I worked with the paymasters office at the location and there was no CGI. A thousand men were used.
I’m pretty sure this was Mel Gibson’s directorial debut. The guy is an amazing actor and director. What a great film. Great reaction as always.
In 1993 he made his directorial debut with The Man Without a Face. Great movie.
Academy Awards actually got it right with this one.
Best Picture: Winner
Best Director: Mel Gibson: Winner
Among others...
Apocalypto is another great movie, directed by Mel Gibson.
I feel for Hannah. At the end one of the tortures was him being disemboweled. Basically opening up his stomach and pulling out his intestines. Real brutal torture method.
The torture also included Wallace's manhood being cut off and thrown into a fire. Just to further humiliate a defeated enemy
He was being disemboweled while he was still alive??!!
@@AlexGraphicD yep. The entire torture method was called "hanged, drawn, and quartered". Started with the victim being pulled by horses to be hanged to the point of near death, then disemboweled, castrated, beheaded, and finally the body would be dismembered
@@matthewcampos1774 oh my dear God, that is beyond horrific….
@@AlexGraphicD it truly was. And it makes sense as to why even the people watching it were begging Wallace to ask for mercy
Naw don’t edit out your passion Hannah, it’s awesome! You and ash both! It’s what makes your reactions so amazing.
Wow what a compliment, thank you for this you legend ❤️
21:18 That smirk on her was priceless
"Because you wont stand together" as they all proceed to stand together. That always made me laugh.
When William kissed the princess....YEARS have gone by since his wife's death.
Hanna needs to come back and keep doing these with you. You guys make a good team up for these reactions. Seen several of your videos up till now but you guys as a pair made me sub.
Thank you for the support mate ❤️
Yeah i just dont watch if she is not in... they make such a good pair... he is so into manly stuff... and she just wants some romantism... and him not paying attention and giving it... hilarious... But she is into them...
Brilliant guys. Love your review and it's an emotional rollercoaster of a movie.
You two are the most hilarious couple on UA-cam.
The Silence at the end says 1000 words....outstanding movie
Wallace died in 23 aug 1305, longshanks died in 1307 and princess isobella came over in 1308 so never even met longshanks and was only 13 and had her first son in 1312
The princess would have been around 2-5 years old during Wallace’s campaign. She also never even met the king. It’s all totally made up !
"Raw and uncut. That's me and you babe." 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Now that took me. Lol
😂😂😂 finally someone appreciated it, thank you for watching you legend ❤️
Someone who believes in you more than you believe in him-
Wow Ash. That’s deep.
Haha I’m surprised at myself for this line, appreciate the love mate ❤️
I think he was trying to say "someone who believes in you more than you believe in yourselves," which would inspire them and lift them up.
You asked what they were doing to William Wallace. He was hanged, drawn and quartered. Which means he was strangled by hanging, but released while he was still alive, emasculated, eviscerated and his bowels burned before him, beheaded, then cut into four parts. (From google)
I fucking love you two guys as a couple
Love you too you legend ❤️
You two are endearing. Hope you know that people enjoy watching you together and really hope you stay together
im literally only 10 minutes in and you guys are cracking me up so much. love it
Haha cheers you legend ❤️
High-five!! High fived my own self when i heard you were reacting to this glorious movie! Thank you, my grace(s)
The emotional trauma of the ending Hannah feels is real. Decades later and just clips of the ending still mess me up.
I love both your true emotions … !! I’ve must have seen this move a dozen times .., and everytime I end up the same way …… crying at the end …
Thank you so much you legend ❤️
You two have become my favorite reaction channel!
Couple of ideas for the future:
-Thunderheart
-Smoke Signals
-What Dreams May Come
-Good Will Hunting
-13th Warrior
Let’s goooooooo!! Thank you for the love you legend, we will add them to our list
@@justtrustash Look forward to future uploads!
Love you Ash and Hannah. Keep watching movies and sharing with us
I HIGHLY recommend you watch "Gladiator" starring Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix.
"He's got to release his anger" He's got to release something... 😃
Ash! You know how to make a Scotsman smile! Thank you for part 2 I will acknowledge you as an honorary Scotsman and Hannah can be a CELT if she wants, I think I can see you both registering for Scottish citizenship soon haha
You should give it to yourself to rent a kilt and wear it one day! Best feeling ever
Love you both! My favourite reaction couple ❤
I will also honer our new Scotsman and his warrior queen 🏴
"I think I can see you both registering for Scottish citizenship soon haha"
If Scoxit happens I'm yeeting across the border from Cumbria.
This country is the dregs at the moment 😅
It’s an honour to be a brother to your nation, appreciate this comment so much ❤️
I live in Maryland now but fly my Scotland flag high
I’m American with Scots in my ancestry. I’m working on narrowing down who and where.
One of the best movies ever made, hands down.
What they did to him was so horrible, not just intestine, even his private part been burn and cut while he was still alive just to tortured him..... i can't imagine what that feel like
Next you guys should watch “Marley and Me”, it’s a fun, light hearted movie about a man and his naughty dog.
I might have to watch 300 again for it to grow properly..thank you for the love mate ❤️
i just love the true emotion you show us on every of your reaction videos!
Cheers you legend
This was the best reaction I've ever seen to this movie. I had a great time watching this.
Wow what a compliment, it’s an honour mate, thank you for watching ❤️
@@justtrustash You're most welcome.
I admit, it's one of the reasons I enjoy watching your reaction videos., your sister's pretty cute too and your editting to do close ups of facial expressions of yours, and especially Hannah's, really add to the enjoyment of watching your videos. I find myself laughing unexpectedly so often while watching your vids. I need to become a patreon and can't believe you do not have 5 times the number of subscribers.
I wish I had a fraction of your quick wit.
Keep up the great work bro I'm staying subbed to you always, I don't usually watch reaction videos but you alone or with the girlfriend and family are really something special. 🤟❤
