i heard the waiting time was implemented because of dickheads unlocking the bootloader to spike devices with malware that made them money and sell them on to unsuspecting customers who are now being spied on. Can't verify if that's actually a thing. But there actually were cases were people gave spiked phones to their ex-partners to be able to spy on them. With the wait time, this would become more difficult to hide.
Because 0.1% of the population are dickheads. Take away ownership for the other 99.9% of the population that are not. Eh..... No. No. No.

@@rossmanngroupI dont know how big this is, but when i was buying phone, this was a big problem in china. Maybe that is the reason? And by big i do not mean ex boyfrieds, but massive retailers spiking phones, mostly to install some version o the OS which contained software with apps from companies they had some deal with - so tracking for adds, in general way more annoying adds everywhere, inside software, different popups etc... and preinstalled apps that could not be uninstalled etc... That is why many manufacturers started to lock bootloaders. I am not saying it is right etc... but this was a thing, i dont know how big of a thing it is now.
@@rossmanngroupIsn't that the reason we also have laws? Some things are only prohibited or strongly regulated because a few bad apples spoiled the fun and made honest and responsible people look bad. I agree on the point that limitations like the ones you showed should not exist. However, the manufacturer also has a point. That is what i tried to show. They should still find a better solution to this problem.
They are already spiked with the manufacturer's malware and Trojans from the factory, that's why we need an open bootloader to delete them.

@@acmhfmggru ThinkPads have gone downhill. They started soldering the ram and making harder to customize and repair. The pricing is also ridiculous that I almost considered buying a MacBook Pro instead of a ThinkPad.
@@acmhfmggruThey had a couple of real duds before the acquisition. The late IBM ones were sometimes shoddy to begin with. The T40 line took multiple successive models to fix structural issues. That being said, the later ones have gotten embarrassingly bad, next to only a few IBM-era misfires. I have a T480 where gently pressing the power button resulted in the entire bezel cracking. When I dock my P50, sometimes the internal keyboard and mouse mysteriously disappear and no longer accept any input. If someone else hypothetically made a perfect copy of the trackpoint, I bet a large number of ThinkPad loyalists would ditch Lenovo.

The problem is the vast majority of consumers really don't care what OS is on their computer OR phone. They just want to get on their Facebook and Twitter, and post about what they had for breakfast as if anyone gives a rat's ass. BUT, that's the society we live in. They are uninformed, don't CARE to be informed, and that's why companies get away with this shit.
Even then Lenovo has been pissing on Motorola owners with delayed/non existent updates, shitty software, and short support windows. They're doing their best to grind the company into the dirt.

I'd like to say that while I am one of those who doesn't care about the OS on the laptop/desktop, it's only for my 2000-ish era games, not social media.
Which, AFAIK, only Windows can do.
It gets even more sketchy when you realise that companies are abusing open source software and at the same time, paying politicians to make rules to bully open source out of the marketplace!

It's actually kind of disappointing to see the decline of Lenovo in the last few years. For the same reasons that you stated we used to heavily recommend Lenovo. Their headquarters in the US was based in Raleigh just an hour away from us in North Carolina. They had durable products and actually provided true parity between Intel and AMD. When other manufacturers would only do intel-based laptops for the most part Lenovo would do high-performance AMD based systems which had higher core counts then what their Intel counterparts did at the same price point. Parts support used to be pretty good. Then at some point during the pandemic it all went to crap. We've had a titanium X1 in the store for almost 3 years waiting for a motherboard. 1 month after the warranty expired it failed on the customer. Still no parts support for a less than 2-year-old device at that time. Years later still nothing. That's just one example. We used to have a us-based account manager. Now everything is outsourced overseas. It's even more obvious that Lenovo is starting to work with the Chinese government on a more regular basis as many skus are not allowed to be sold to US Government contracts. That restriction would only exist if there was something on there that would be a conflict of interest.
That, and the X1 Carbon with the power converter attached to the USB-C that fails if you ever try to run more power than the power converter can handle. Many firmware updates have been issued trying to address this issue, but people are still having the issue. There's a long thread on Lenovo's BBS about people with this problem.
In ONE contract they claim to disassociate with you and the product while then going on to control what you do with that product.
This reminds me how bitchy Orange ISP is in Poland.
When signing contract with them the last point said "I agree to terms of Mobile Internet" and Gave me a separate document to sign called "Terms of LTE internet".
Fun fact: its not the same thing, one document stated that when my contract ends I will loose internet access, while the other stated that it will automatically extend.
Try to guess what happened after the contract ended.
If you answered, that they removed my internet access but were still charging me money, then you are correct.
I had to pay for 3 extra months without having any internet access due to their 3 months cancellation period.

I'm glad that Lenovo allows you to unlock the bootloader but that definitely pisses me off the only reason I buy Motorola's is because they are cheap, close to stock, fairly easy to repair, support SD cards, and at least actually let you change the bootloader but the code thing is total crap that legal shit pissed me off too.
There was almost as much false advertising when I timed the length of my rant as there were in my past videos claiming Lenovo was a good company.

from the samsung bootloaders that can be unlocked by you can't get any rom to work because of their security bs, to huawei shutting down unlock website, to xiaomi forcing you to wait 164 hours
i was so confused why people doesn't even care that they purchased an expensive mini computer that they can't install what they want in it

- it should be illegal to sell any device with a locked bootloader, all kind of software locks should be unlockable the minute the customer want to

I feel like in current year every company has the "hold my beer" mentality. Whenever I think a company cannot sink any lower, ta da someone raises the bar ( or lowers it depending on how you look ta it). Since I barely use my phone, my husband just got us the LG phones for $100 each through Mint mobile. He has Samsung Galaxy ( work provided) and an iPhone ( client provided). The only difference I really see is the speed between my cheaper phone and those two more expensive phones.
I'm sick of all these companies personally. I'm sick of windows being the Harvey of software. How many times do I have to say no to windows upgrade? How many times do I have to say no to restarting my computer to update it? The only reason I didn't just switch to Linux is because I play online video games. I love when I get up and come back to my computer restarting after I said no 20x.

Which online games? A bunch of them just work on Linux if they don't have really awful anticheat built in. To which I say I don't need that game that badly. But also dual booting is an easy option if you like to do things on your pc other than game but want the option to play fortnite or whatever.

@pootispiker2866 First of all, nothing is perfect. Linux can come close for those who care because it can be customized. For those who don't, I get it, most people dont have the time or desire to tinker with their os. In regards to gaming though, linux not supporting these anti cheats is more feture than bug. For example, I won't play Valorant due to the aggressive and invasive nature of its anti cheat. It feels like holding a gun to everyone's head to keep people honest during your family game of monopoly. Like I get that cheaters suck, but it's not worth the security of my whole pc to make it harder (not even impossible) to cheat in a game. Linux is a meme because Microsoft pays good money to have windows as the default operating system. Same reason android forks never took off mainstream. The mainstream don't even change their wifi passwords despite the security risks. People want to go with the default even when the default is obviously more flawed.

There was a great video about a home appliance repair shop in France. They had a brisk business repairing TV's that would fail early because of poor design. At first the repair was easy, but the company kept making it harder and harder, both to replace the bad component and even get replacement parts. They attempted to get an official response from the company. Silly people...
And I was about to buy a Lenovo monitor that was on sale too, glad to get the warning Louis.
Lenovo is a sad shell of what they once were. I'm not saying Lenovo was amazing before, but they had an opportuinity, inheriting Motorola & IBM's designs & brands. Rather than make the most of their opportunities, Lenovo slowly grinded their reputation into the dirt. They worked hard to destroy the brands they bought.

This has nothing to do with anything besides phones in their product line, Lenovo is a good to mostly great company IMO, they just don't want to deal with warranty calls for bricked devices and if you request an unlock code to install a "non-supported" - (yea that's in quotes) OS it just makes their lives easier, so it's a tit for tat, yea you can do what you want with the OS on the device but don't bug us about it, does it suck if theirs a systemic hardware issue a lil down the road? Yea it sucks but they just don't want to outright replace devices for software caused issues. (ps... I swear I do not nor have I ever worked for Lenovo/IBM).

Hey louis, appreciate this video. I was on board with you supporting Motorola and lenovo. I've owned them both in the past and found them to be durable reliable and long-lived hardware. I have a t420s Lenovo that I just installed Linux Zorin on and wow! I am currently sending this text on a Moto G power and it is an awesome phone. So disappointing to see these developments with a company that I've had such great respect for in the past. By the way, you may want to give Linux Zorin a shake. It will run many Windows software packages out of the box and the configuration I have feels a lot like Windows 7. And the old laptop has a serious performance increase. Very best wishes.

I’m 100% convinced it’s their lawyers run amok. Somebody did something nasty and resold the phone, so to protect the company they absolutely overreached and put all sorts of bullshit measures in. The bottom line is: how can they PROVE to the court that they’re not responsible for the stuff done to their products? That line saying you can’t resell it is not enforceable, but it works in court to show that they’re not responsible for it once it’s resold. It’s redundant, but lawyers love it.
So, the letter of the law and the truth (or practically enforceable law) are are odds. How is a user that decides to read some legal licence agreement by the company he deals with supposed to know? Maybe something else is not enforceable also? Or do we have to call in a lawyer every time you by a f'''**g smart-phone / laptop or other device with a computer in it (so basically any device today)?

@@LovSven2011lawyers have put and will always put stupid stuff on contracts against you. If this is a specific contract (like for a house, car, etc.) you absolutely need to read to the last letter. For consumer goods most of the stuff is to cover their ass, they have no intention to go to court just because you sell a $100 phone to your neighbor. In any case, a contract is not absolute, it’s still subject to the law, and has to be ‘conscionable’. I think a software maker once hid a clause demanding your first born in the license agreement. There’s no way the court is gonna enforce that.
The sickest contract that can be internationally enforced is Ferraris ownership contract.

So It would be the same IF you repainted the car then.
IF I would ever own a Ferrari I think their paint job sucks! It looks flat and one dimensional. I would use a Pearl white or Deep Audi rouge red instead. But I would be sued by Ferrari.
I also think the buttons and dashboard looks like LEGO and would like 1 color on all the buttons.

That's plenty complicated compared to Playstore's one-click install.
(also I'm sure there were some other annoyances along the way but I dealt with them quite a while ago and don't remember everything about the process)
Besides keep in mind that Google is one of those that preaches that apps on their official playstore are safe and appropriate (I guess as long as you ignore 99% of it's content that's either ad-farming shit, actual predatory f2p shit or basic tools with bloated filesizes and ad-infestation).

Just want to stick up for my Pixel 6a which has been wonderful radiowise. I live out in the sticks, and I switched from Verizon where I could get NO phone service in my aluminum duck that I live in. Now I get complete service. I don't know anything about what you're saying about Qualcomm but my 6a is solid gold and works always.

People think a contract is air-tight and rock-solid, but they're not, that's just propaganda from scummy corporations. There have been many cases of courts ruling contracts / EULAs / TOSes / etc. invalid, and in some cases, outright ILLEGAL. For example, Microsoft's _infamous_ "by opening this box, you agree to the enclosed terms" nonsense. A more intense contract was when Bernd Brandes consented to being eaten by Armin Meiwes. Meiwes was convicted.

@@joes9954 Loser pays wouldn't change anything. Lawyers want to get paid on a regular basis, not work for free for years and then get a big win several years down the road. Lawyers are like everyone else and have rent and utilities and food and whatnot to pay for, they can't work on cases for free all the time and just not have money. So you're going to need to pay your lawyer to work on the case for years, and most of us cannot afford to do that, so we'd never get to the end of the trial to get Lenovo to pay.
Lenovo might not sue if loser pays, but they're still going to put illegal clauses in their user agreements and still deny users warranty coverage because they also know the user isn't going to sue them.

This is so true. Back in the days my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 ran Darklord Note 7 until I bricked it because I wanted the Darklord Note 8.
I miss those days. You can still get phones that don't mess with the bootloader like the OnePlus phone as long as you don't buy it from the carrier. This stuff happens only in the US and Canada. The rest of the world have their bootloaders untouched and can unlock them any time they want.

Ford sold BIW (body in white) mustangs for racing and you needed to sign all sorts of things to buy one - one specifically was a clause that you can never put the car on the road. This is because they would always be potentially liable if the card frame failed and hurt someone on the road. Now obviously they have not real control over what you do with it, that wasnt the real point though. The purpose of the clause is that if you "breached" the contract, then that gives them an out of responsibility. Fair enough, and more importantly CLEAR and understood by all parties.
I expect lenovo is trying to do the same thing here, but is being very sloppy and VERY ambiguous about it.
S24U here, unlocked bootloader. I run rooted since the first day and I got Windows games on it through ROOT, using a build of box64 and proton, being able to play GTA 5. I do not intend to receive any warranty from Samsung or O2, as I pay all my devices in full and if they ever break (which is kind of impossible with the stack of phones I have on the shelf, as none broke and they still work as normal). Nevertheless those phones on the shelf are pretty fast and could be picked up at any time, without any hassle, that being due to the fact they're all rooted and run mostly the exact same system and apps, cloned from one to the other.

When you compare Lenovo and HP, for Lenovo we had a tech come once in a month, maybe once in two months, for HP we had him there every Thursday and he usually had parts for two or three computers (we were changing batteries and fans, he was doing things like monitor replacement, camera replacement, figuring why OS installation refused to run and so). I still have a C200 at home. I know, it is old enough to drink, it is slow, screen is not great anymore (sometimes a weird line appears there) and it runs on WinXP, but still, it is running.
I had Lenovo phone some 6 years ago and it was good machine. Soon after they decided to not make more phones and signed the deal with Motorola.
And now they are doing this. I really liked that company. Now they are doing everything they can to make me buy from different brand. But I don't know if any other brand is any better nowadays.

Not a crime to sell it. It's a civil matter. They have to figure out you sold the phone and then sue you in court. Odds are they won't do this anyone unless they've unlocked and sold about thousand phones. At that point they will lose in court.

Many people do not understand the distinction between criminal and civil. Violating the terms of a contract is not illegal; it’s just a breach of contract.
If they sued you for selling your phone after you unlocked the bootloader, they could probably prevail on liability - after all, the terms of the contract are clear - but damages would be so low that it would not be worth the hassle.
It’s less about wanting to sue people for selling unlocked phones and more about wanting to shield the manufacturer from liability to second-hand buyers. Let’s say that I modify my phone in a way that makes it possible for the battery to be overcharged, and then I sell that phone. While it is charging overnight, the battery ignites, and the new owner’s house burns down. If Motorola didn’t tell people not to sell their unlocked phones, the new owner might try to argue that Motorola should be liable because it should have foreseen that someone would sell their modified phone.
That’s an extreme example, and I’m not arguing that it’s a _realistic_ example, but that’s how lawyers think.
@@amicaaranearum A lot of people can't understand that a contract without enforcement doesn't do anything. Sometimes contracts are breached but the non-breaching party doesn't pursue remedies. Sometimes it's not worth the effort, sometimes the breach is minor.
While I do own a Motorola phone at the moment, I bought it with an intention to unlock it only once my warranty is over, when the system updates inevitably slow down. That's because of how used I am to most phone manufacturers voiding warranty on bootloader unlock.
But trying to forbid people from selling their unlocked phones? I had no idea, thank you for the warning. I'm nearing the 2 year "ownership" mark and now I'm considering selling the phone instead of unlocking it. Even though I bought this phone with an intention to use it until it breaks, I'd still rather have that option available for me.
And it's a shame, because I like my current Motorola. Mostly vanilla Android with little bloatware, for once in my short life I was satisfied with the stock ROM. And it's more affordable than the Pixels are. Not sure what other choices I have.

I agree entirely, I'm 63 and have watched your channel for a long time. The problem is the younger generation doesn't care. I'm saying 25 and younger do not care. And have no idea how they are being taken advantage of.
Every generation has people that don't care. Things are considerably different now and it's just easier to be fed an image of vapid kids where someone older ends up being spiteful enough for one reason or another to believe it's wholly representative when it's not. Regardless of _when_ a kid exists, their focus is simply on themselves because that's all they know. Earnest, outgoing empathy doesn't have much of a chance to develop until after experiencing their own hardships and becoming more aware of the world around them. It's at that crucial point where they either choose to be a considerate adult or continue being a short-sighted brat with aggressive disdain for the problems of others because they're preoccupied with their own pursuits.
I'm 55 and comments like yours are just embarrassing. Companies like Lenovo are overreaching because of people 25 and younger not caring? How does that work-do they run these companies? Do they write consumer legislation? I hate to break it to you, but it's people your age and my age who are doing this and allowing companies to do this. What did we do to stop them from doing this? Channel your resentment towards your own mistakes in life.

Dell is doing the same thing now: I've been working with a client that has a hotel and restaurant. When a guest has lunch/dinner the POS system (Aloha) need to send the ticket data to the property Management Software. The Aloha server can only transmit data over serial, the PMS only excepts data over Ethernet. So an interface computer is used to translate the data. The interface computer is a brand new Dell workstation running Windows 11. Apparently Windows 11 uses virtual USB ports and it's causing a problem with Aloha. I contacted Dell and asked if i could downgrade the machine to Windows 10. I was repeatedly told by Dell support that the computer will not run any other OS besides Win 11 and if i tried it would "void the warranty." I'm not allowed to downgrade or use any other OS on the computer even though we own the machine. A computer should be a generic piece of hardware (like a phone) that you can use for your needs. But not when a company controls how you use it, the hardware becomes far less useful.

@@remixedcatFrom what i can tell the BIOS is preventing the install of Windows 10. That's why i called Dell support in the first place. I installed a new SSD and tried every way possible to install Win 10 on the machine. Simply would not install, and apparently, if i try i could, void the warranty. There is still a communication problem between the POS and PMS. I works sometimes, but it's not consistent. We're using an inexpensive Dell workstation as a server. The computer only has one job to do: To pass data between the two systems.

I'm already using F-Droid as my 1st source for apps for my Android phone (still not ready to de-googlefy it completely especially since I'm new to it), slowly reorganizing my PC files and tools to go full Linux (using Win10 with some restrictions I placed on it for the time being) and of course slowly moving out of any Google services as well (email will be long one as I've been using it for over 10 years now).

I was burned all the way back in the T61 (lenovo took over around the T60 gen) Days when the MX140 would desolder itself due to heat. I begged them after 3 board replacements under warranty to just give me the iGPU option instead of making a fool of my 2007 $1400 purchase (about 2k 2024 dollars). Louis the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes this illegal to void a hardware warranty based on this. Sure they don’t have to cover the software warranty though. Just like if you use after-marker tires, your car manufacturer cannot void the warranty on your car radio.
ALL tech firms blatantly ignore MM. That's the only reason Apple has gotten away with as much as they have. Congress is useless and Apple could make anyone penniless trying to go after them in court. They would make their court costs back in less than a day of iPhone sales.

@@rossmanngroup I don't know US law, but I know German law. In Germany, such terms of conditions wouldn't be legal. Here nobody can forbid you to sell your stuff. Surprising clauses are generally illegal here too. They can be written in there, but they simply don't apply when it comes to court. And our two years statutory warranty law cannot be undermined by such clauses as well. So it doesn't matter whether any supervisory authority has no teeth.

The reasons companies are against the right to repair and create walled gardens are not only because it's lucrative but also because many people are okay with it due to their lack of technological literacy. They don't trust themselves with true control of their devices. This is particularly evident in the Apple ecosystem, where I've had people tell me that Apple knows better. When people are ignorant about a topic, they often seek an authority to make decisions for them.
I don't mind people choosing that path, but I do think it's unfair for others to be dragged into it. Why should I be punished because others refuse to learn?
And worse, those people don't just do this with private companies and products they personally use, they vote to have the government treat other people this way. It's like dystopian fiction, except the politicians are much less subtle and competent, but the population begs politicians to be their parents anyway.
I have a Thinkpad X230 Tablet with Fedora installed, and a Nexus 6 (aka Motorola XT1103) with bootloader unlocked. I have my next phone in Pixel 8 pro (also bootloader unlocked), and will be looking at Framework for my next laptop.
OnePlus still lets you unlock bootloaders. It's in the Developer Menu. It has a single toggle switch to unlock your bootloader and your carrier, built-in to the device. OnePlus was bought by Oppo years ago, but apparently they retain their autonomy.
Louis, Motorola/Lenovo is not the 1st manufacturer that do this, I have a Xiaomi Poco f1, 6 years ago when I first got the phone, in order to unlock the bootloader, I need to wait for the one week count down timer. Basically keeping the device in the box after submitted the request. It's ridiculous I completely feel you.
As an ex-POCO phone owner, I remember when the period was 3 days instead of 7. But yeah, that's not new.

It would be nice to mention about bloatware and slowing down older devices, I have at least a few xiaomi devices and after a while they slow them down on purpose and add a bunch of adware garbage to the built-in apps,

It's getting harder and harder to "do your own research" now with things like this you wouldn't even think to look in to. Use to be about specs and reliability. I bought Diablo 3 to play single player a while back on the switch; the servers were down. To play offline you had to first sign into the server, so I couldn't use the product. I asked for a refund and after a long discussion with customer service they said they would refund it. The service rep then told me that this refund was a one time thing, and that I should do more research the next time I buy a game.

That said consumers should bear in mind that the world is full of secondhand phones, laptops and PC's that'll work perfectly well to do 99% of what we need to do - unless you have a niche professional use case that forces you to swallow it - and IMO the best way to hurt these companies is simply not to buy anything new. Instead do your research on what is reliable, what is well built and what is repairable and upgradeable.

I have a 2011 MBP as well, and I can't begin to say how disappointed I am at apple's lack of support. It would run perfectly fine, if not for the company's sabotage that makes everything difficult on purpose.
@@SrObserFor me it started with a 2006 Mac Pro. As I only learned a couple of years later - since it wasn't something Apple were exactly going to tell anyone - they saved a few cents by using a 32bit EFI chip. Supposedly this stopped this so called "pro" computer from being upgraded to versions of OS X requiring a 64bit EFI. Then some genius whizz kid (Tiamo) made it possible to somehow spoof the OS into working on the 2006 Mac Pro.
My point is that if a genius kid could figure this out then of course Apple very deliberately and cynically decided NOT to do it, since one of their engineers could probably have done it in a lunch break.
Later on instruction sets were built into CPUs that the 2006 Xeons just didn't have - which would have been a perfectly acceptable end of life explanation. I don't expect hardware to live forever - just not to be made artifically and cynically obsolete. Companies have to be made to understand that loyalty is earned and Apple lost mine over a decade ago and I haven't given them a penny since.

It's bullshit like this that pushed me away from Android. Now all my phones run either postmarketOS, Mobian, or don't run at all.
With Waydroid I can even still run some Android apps (like Grayjay) while I give a fat middle finger to apps that want raw hardware access (like all those "we have a shitty app to show an embedded browser" apps), because they sure as hell aren't getting hardware access.
My life has been so much less stressful knowing that the device I use as a mobile communication hub isn't trying to sell my current location to the highest bidder.

If you called the support line with any issue the first thing they asked was "Have you installed any software or hardware?"
They just violated federal communications act. So let me explain the federal communications act. States that you can unlock your phone. Your phone's boot loader to work on any service provider on the market by them. Saying that you cannot unlock your phone or unlock the bootloader on the phone. And then rig the unlocking of the phone to your own website means that they are currently in violation of the federal communications act. And they can be sued for that, so don't let them intimidate you and try to file a lawsuit against you. And?

Louis, it may be because you are in the US. I have bought Motorola phones and never had any issues with unlocking the bootloaders as well as with other brands too. The reason is because they can't sell networked locked phones here. No such thing as a carrier locked phone as all phones are unlocked and this may also have an effect in the bootloader not having any restrictions in being unlocked. My Moto E22 can be unlocked and locked if I want to without needing a code for example. We know manufactures get money and discounts from other companies when they make devices according to their requests (like Windows on PCs by default or why you can get that 1500 dollar phone for 100 bucks at AT&T) and there could be something that with it going to the US there is software limitations or restriction compared to other parts of the world. Same is with like Samsung would only sell snapdragon phones in the US but everyone else had to deal with their exynos chipped ones.

I had a Lenovo computer a few years back. Windows corrupted itself while updating and so I sent the computer to Lenovo to reinstall Windows. They refused, and wouldn't even give me the computer back or even give me a refund. I finally got them to give me a refund, but they still didn't even refund the whole price of the computer. I was very mad and will never buy another Lenovo computer again.

I’m so very grateful I still don’t need a smart-phone. My new Opel FlipPhone 6 is as good as flip-phones from the early 2000’s, and I’ve had its internet connection blocked.
My “daily drivers” are Vista-64 and 7-64 (admittedly, I use Tiny10 23H1 for the THG Titanic simulator). My NASes run openmediavault 5.11. My video-viewing is nothing but DVD and UA-cam.
My house lights are wired through mechanical ‘clicky’ switches, my car isn’t connected, and I still use a manual toothbrush. Also, I still use a porcelain electric jug with no auto-shutoff.
I don’t own a satnav or any other GPS thing-I have a street directory (big fluffy paper thing). But usually, if I don’t know where I’m going-I stay home.
For mental health, I use Gin. For back-pain, I use the Vodkapractor.

Those unlock conditions read like they are designed to prevent a business from taking their phones, installing their own OS and reselling them. The week long time looks like it's meant to slow them down and make it impractical to do so. Whether or not that is the case, it's still bullcrap.
Our company used to use Lenovo as principle supplier of laptops. And they were solid reliable pieces of kit. Then they switched to using HP kit for about five years which was a disaster. As soon as the contract was over they switched back to Lenovo, it remains to be seen if Lenovo laptops are as good as they were before. Can't comment on their phones.
For my phone, I moved to a Google Pixel four years ago. I did that because I got fed up with all the undeleteable bloatware you end up with from brands like Samsung and HTC. At least the Pixel was relatively lean in that regard, and more of the specced memory was mine to use.

I also would love a discussion about apps refusing to work on unlocked devices because of "security", specially bank apps. My phone manufacturer stopped releasing security updates long time ago. I think I am more secure using an open source operating system that still has security updates than using a brick stuck on android 10 that no longer receives security updates.
