I like the tutorial ! I do not like the judging comments but I do love how she replies ❤️. I will be adding the washing soda to my mix, since I already add it to my regular loads. My fabric softener is white vinegar 🤣. I even clean my stove with it and a bit of soap. Sparkling clean and no asthma 👍.
I'm all for this! I bought my first bar of s Zote recently and it smells so good! And is so soft! I'm a thrilled not to be throwing those plastic jugs into the landfill. And the cost savings are enormous!!! Only thing was how much do you use per load?
That is a big question mark for me too as my washing machine decides how much water I can have. It depends on the water level and the size of the load so it is guess work. I truly forget how much I used as I ran out of zote soap detergent a while back and have not made any more lately. Seems like I used at least a cup depending on the load. And may have used 1 1/2 cups for large loads. Becky's homestead is where I got the recipe so hope she has more helpful solutions on this issue.
I see all the discussion about this being a very dilute mixture but in fact the original pure Zote bar was designed for hand washing in which the hands rubbing the fabric on a washboard provide the friction that activates the cleaning power. Detergents loosen the dirt without the need for so much friction. I think if you take that into account and maybe go for five gallons per bar instead of ten gallons it would be good. I am new to this but that is what I am doing. (I actually do most of my laundry by hand in a washtub on my patio. It took a while to develop a good routine but now it is a very enjoyable part of my week.)
Hopefully the concentrated version will not be too thick to get it out of a gallon size vinegar bottle. The spout of a vinegar botle is narrow and much care needs to be taken to dissolve the soap well enough so that it won't thicken in a blob in the bottle and then won't mix together as you shake the bottle. How do I know ? It happened to me. I took the bottle upstairs in a warm sunroom and let the sun warm the solution enough so that I could shake it up and pour it out. I use 2 cups for a large load of clothes.
Now that is a very interesting concept. I really don't know but I suspect if put in very hot water it may dissolve like powdered detergent but I've never tried it that way.

@@bevyh1 Thank you Sweetie... I'm working on a smaller formula today and I will come back and share my experience. I have an empty Tide plastic bottle 31 fl oz.
@@bevyh1can the batch just be kept in the 5 gallon bucket and scooped out as needed without transfering to other empty bottles and still last as long with smaller non diluted cup ratios?
Yes it could be left in 5 gallon bucket and stir well each time you use it or put in gallon bottles (I use emptied vinegar jugs.) I think it is easier to manage 1 gallon jugs and then shake and use after using the right amount of water for right concentration. The right amount of water makes it easier to blend/shake up the soap.
Stir well before dividing into two buckets. If you don't dilute the mixture it would be so concentrated it may be too thick to pour out of the plastic bottles. Also the water needs to be hot enough and stirred long enough to completely dissolve mixture.

She dissolves soap in untreated water, then adds a water softener. Smart? Nope. You don’t need two water softeners. Borax is an old fashioned, not very effective alkaline water softener. It’s 47% water. Use washing soda instead. This isn’t a detergent because the only surfactant is bar soap. It’s a primitive laundry soap.
Frank Gutowski hey it works i use it all the time and can wash greasy dishes in cold water with it. Long as it works its ok by me. People need to make it and see for themselves even diluted it works. I dont have much money and the one under a dollar bar zote goes a long way for laundry, dishes, car, greasy driveway, spots on carpet. Its best I can do and Im happy with it and grateful for these kind people.
Dolores Leyva Soap deposits soap scum on fabrics. That’s why it hasn’t been used for washing laundry for 70 years. If you can live with that, fine. Think: when washing dishes, you’re not diluting it with 20 gallons of water, as in a washing machine. That’s the problem: it starts off watered down and then is diluted much more. That’s why detergents start off being 15% surfactants. This stuff is less than 1%.

My 4 kids do and they’re 21,19, 15 and 13. They’re two boys and two girls. My mom taught us how to do this method when we were around 8 years old and I’ve taught my kids too.
@@daly4129 they were raised right then ! :)

Soap deposits soap scum on fabrics.
I use only borax and zote soap in my detergent, works great just sayin'.
