It’s bothersome that they just diagnosed him with schizophrenia. His actions and behaviors are not schizophrenia. He is a sociopath/antisocial personality disorder type… Obviously there could be other diagnoses mixed in. Sidenote: I have met people who have had ECT before it is affective in some and obviously not in others. It’s pretty hit or miss. The side effect that I’ve heard is the most common is short term memory loss
I think back then, nobody was willing to call a child a sociopath and antisocial disorders were not known/understood. Schizophrenia was an easy label to stick to people. Their was probably also some laziness on the doctors part to really figure it out. Label them, fry the brains and send them home was the answer back then. I agree that ECT does work for some. I would love to have it. Not for mental health problems exactly. I think it would help a disability I have, or at least, I would love to try. Unfortunately it’s not allowed in England anymore.
remember, this was back in the 1940s & 50s. Mental illnesses, (nor their treatments), were not well understood at that time. (nor are they now, really)
Schizophrenia isn’t mutually exclusive with personality disorders. We don’t know all of the reasons he was diagnosed with that. These histories tend to be fairly abbreviated, as it’s a short form show.
In psychiatry it is fairly standard that no child under 12 is diagnosed with schizophrenia so I find this part of the narrative questionable. I worked as a data manager at Bellevue in about 1981 in autism unit - this was the diagnosis of "pre schizo".
I love how you say "Get the **** out of here" and "shit the **** up". Lol you're so easy to understand and speak clearly. I just wonder how many times you read the script b4 posting since your dialog is absolutely flawless. 👌👌👌

Excellent presentation, @this is MONSTERS. I hadn't heard of this case. You did a great job. Your voice is perfect for your content. Best to you!
Man I love this channel so much, I’ve listened to all the Spotify even watched all the vids on here(even tho they’re the same) I just can’t get enough then I find somewhere sinister! Man I love true crime but you’re story telling and narration brings the stories to another level, gonna get a hoodie when I get paid for sure, not sure if I can wear it to work tho!
Yay
I've had my Dose of Monsters and That Chapter.

You have NO IDEA, how I look forward to my notifications letting know you YOU’VE DROPPED NEW MONSTERS episode ☺️☺️☺️
ME TOO!😉 And as soon as the Monster's "theme music" drops, I start dancing 🤣 I could care less if that makes me a morbid sick f*ck... ☠️
@@m.g.2645 your so correct!! 🤣🤣
I look so forward to seeing these, thanks.
I feel like you should have way more than 495 thousand subscribers. Such great and informative content and narration. One of my top 5 favorites for sure!!!
'Unsurprisingly, electrocuting Richard, didn't solve his problems'.... wow, one liners like this, are just another reason 'This is Monsters' is my absolute fave channel. Literally laughed out loud when caught off guard with that one 🙃🤣
'Because nothing says 'Marriage material' like a rape charge'.... jheeeeezus 🤣🤣
@@ruthharvey5896 That one got me off guard
Keep them coming, have you done the weepy voice killer?
That's a weird one!
@@missiecombs4807 I know one of the people attacked by him, she lived… all crazy crap but interesting to watch

Thank you, will give it a watch 😁
He was 8 years old at the time
In psychiatry it is fairly standard that no child under 12 is diagnosed with schizophrenia so I find this part of the narrative questionable.
Shut not sh*t
Love the content dude!!!!
Watching the intro, you already got my attention. I live 30 minutes from the Jersey shore,in southern NJ. Think Atlantic City or Wildwood,,the Pine Barrens and the Jersey Devil😄
Great work as always! Much love from switzerland
Good morning. Love your channels. Thank you 😍
love the podcast and your voice is music to my ears.thank you 💯
when you said that he drove through delaware to Salisbury md.. i live on that highway not far from Salisbury, but technically in delaware. definitely caught me off guard. 😟
my favorite sarcastic, dark humor narrator. ❤️ i have problems. i fall asleep to these, and wake up to finish up where i dozed off. 🥴
Sending love from Wilmington, Delaware. I've probably seen every video you've posted! I'm Obsessed with your channel!! 🔥💯💪🏾❤🙌🏾
I’m from Asbury Park and I love when it’s mentioned any where lol. Keep up the great content
Jersey Shore native here...grew up in Cape May 🏖⛵️-- It's interesting to hear how many "monsters" have lived in or vacationed in or near my home town/state -- must be something in the water 😜
Fully loaded Mac 10 rifle? What the heck. Never seen such a thing. Mac 10 is what is generally considered a machine pistol type weapon. Something like a tech 9 or uzi.
Might be a Rhodesian produced semi-automatic Cobra carbine
"Good old dick was released for good behavior"...lmao...love it!!!
I’ve lived on the Jersey shore my whole life why am I just now finding out about this crazy guy
Browsing this video for the third time cause I keep falling asleep 😂🥲♥️ love youuuuu
Yay!! Absolutely love your channel!
My favorite channel EVER!!! i don’t miss a upload 🥺❤️
Ohhhh, Somewhere sinister... sounds amazing!! 😏❤
It is pretty cool!
Some people are beyond rehabilitation and Richard fits that description smh.
Good afternoon and thank-you 😊
Bless this channel 🙏🏿
Bless you 🙏
Having This Is Monsters or Monsters on the thumbnail DEFINITELY helps me not skip over the video when scrolling
I thought thought the thumbnails seemed too plain without it.
@@thisisMONSTERS I agree!!
Thank you for acknowledging electric shock therapy being a current thing. So many people think it's something from last century when it's still in use
It's always been a current thing..

My ex wife's father born in wall twsp Monmouth county nj in 1941 was a victim of that EST. Lol, but said it set him straight...he said it actually helped him. His best friend 40 yrs later in the late 80s AL TAMO I believe his name was called seaside heights police to admit to a murder he commited in the 60s in brick twsp. I remember beganwald like it was yesterday. The stories. My dad was a dog handler in the Vietnam War 1967-68, my date of birth the former, but married my mom anyways and adopted me after coming home from war and seeing what mom had been up to in San Diego while enlisted in the navy. I remember the beganwald Crayola cause my dad was a cop in brick twsp who was almost killed when a Mexican put a 9 inch bayonet to his throat in 86' then stole his 357 magnum and police cruiser before committing 3 murders and suicide at de rose furniture in lake riverbanks off hooper Ave. Born in Edison at jfk and growing up in brick/Tom's river/lakewood area in ocean county...wow the stories I could tell. I'm only 56 and my Das is still alive.😮
Wow! You definitely said, "next video would be about a man who did 17 years of a life sentence and went home" wow 👌🏾 brother!!!
Love your work ethic!!!
Thank you . You're awesome.
I wish you researched more on electroconvulsive therapy (ect). It is not the same as it used to be, there have been tremendous breakthroughs and it is one of the most effective treatment for several mental illnesses.
Such as? Besides severe depression.
Frying someone's brain should be criminal - not "therapy".
Reminds of a line from a Neil Young song: "A kinder gentler, machine-gun hand".
I’m originally from there and this definitely hits different. Thanks for sharing this story.
Thank you ❤🎉🎉🎉

VACATION TIME
I watch alot of these videos and I STILL can't imagine even remotely killing someone just because. My brain just can't empathize with that at all! It's crazy
Keep up the good work I love the channel and love the sarcasm AWESOME!!😃😃😃😃👍👍👍👍
You should do a scary stories podcast for people to fall asleep to. You have the best voice and the content is top notch!!
I'd pay for that.
Too fast and no background noise
What do you think he's doing?
Man, seeing all those little houses right up on the coast is crazy. They will be washed away sooner than later
Totally enjoying 'Somewhere sinister' the same way I enjoy your sarcasm 🥰
Well can’t wait for this episode.
