    I've been a Milwaukee fanboy (have many of their power tools and a blower) but since they've decided against releasing a mower in the foreseeable future, I'm gonna go get myself an ego mower and string trimmer combo. It looks like I'm gonna be real happy with those purchases. Thanks for the video!

      Glad you liked the video - the mowers/snow blowers are where the rubber meets the road. Currently Milwaukee batteries are just not up to powering those kinds of tools.

      I just got an Ego mower 3 days ago and I'm super happy with it. It's soooo much lighter than the Black and Decker battery powered mower I've had for 7 years. It had no issue with the hills on my property. And those batteries charged fully in 45 minutes or less. (from the 30% charge they initially came with)

    I wanted something light weight and capable of cutting. This little string trimmer is just that ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . The battery will last about half an hour. It cuts through most weeds and grass. I wanted to see what this trimmer could do and tried cutting down some brush. It does okay with light brush but heavy brush, not so much. This is a great tool for trimming around the yard. It's not great for clearing out brush but no one would expect it to be.Out of the box, this trimmer is extremely easy to use. All I had to do was attach the guard and load the battery.

    Can't believe I'm still watching string trimmer videos! I ended up buying the Milwaukee trimmer (with free leaf blower) last week after watching tons of comparisons (EGO and Milwaukee were the finalists). The Milwaukee seemed more industrial, and the battery works with more stuff I might need. If you had turned the string cutter around to the 16" position, it may have worked better. Only used mine once so far, but seems to have more than enough power.

    Good comparison man! I'm impressed that the Milwaukee can really hold it's own against the ego considering it's down 38 volts. Milwaukee knows how to squeeze every ounce of power out of that battery platform. Any trimmer will struggle with grass that tall, that was a good stress test for sure :) so much for that claimed hour run time lol (normal maintained lawns of course!)

    • @Kitearmy
      @Kitearmy  5 років тому +4

      Milwaukee has come a long way - that being said all I need to do is pop in a 7.5Ah in the EGO, and I would run circles around the Milwaukee. I think for normal conditions 1 hours is about right - this stuff was nasty.

    • @DIYDad1
      @DIYDad1 5 років тому +2

      @DrgnFlys right but at the same time higher voltages have the potential to output higher power/demand/wattage with less heat loss and strain from the batteries because of less resistance. The voltsxamps calculation will just get you the watt-hours capacity of the battery to make a calculation based on run time.

    • @Kitearmy
      @Kitearmy  5 років тому +2

      @DrgnFlys Ok - I think it gives a better picture if you include retail on the Milwaukee like you did the EGO. So the Milwaukee is $250 for a 12Ah. So based on the Watt hours it is about 1/2 that of the EGO battery. So if you double the cost of the Milwaukee, which would be close to equal amounts of Watt hours, the EGO is $350 and the Milwaukee is $500. Bottom line Watt hour to Watt hour - the EGO is a better deal.

    I researched between the two. I ended up buying Milwaukee. If you are invested in Milwaukee tools, it's better to get the Milwaukee. Ego supposedly has a 5 year warranty where Milwaukee has a 3 year warranty. But Milwaukee has a much more proven system and has been around a long time. Milwaukee is a much better balanced system between the head and the battery. It's not overweight on either side so you do not have to battle to balance it, and at 6'4", it does not hurt my back to mow. Ego was a tiny bit off balance, and moving the handle to the balancing point made it awkward to hold. Really its all about preference though.

    Gr8 review. Love my Milwaukee powerhead and all my other Milwaukee tools. But very disappointed to find out Milwaukee is a Chinese owned brand. No issues with Chinese people but I do with Chinese and related governments and their growing shadow of influence in the world. I will now switch to DeWalt or Makita.
    History: Milwaukee is owned by techtronics: Founded in 1985 in Hong Kong, TTI's brand portfolio includes Milwaukee, AEG, Ryobi, Homelite, Empire, Stiletto, Hoover US, Hart, Oreck, Vax, and Dirt Devil. TTI also manufactures power tools under the Ridgid name through a licensing agreement. I know one cannot avoid buying stuff made in China but I've made the personal decision to try alternatives made in other countries.

    Nice review. The Ego is an excellent trimmer, for sure, and the rest of their OPE is top notch, but Milwaukee's enormous line of M18 tools makes it a very desirable platform. Besides OPE, they have vacuum cleaners, led lights, even a rotary polisher, not to mention a complete line of power tools. Plus, a lawnmower is reportedly on the way! Batteries can also be shared across tool lines. For example, I can throw my trimmer's 9ah into my vacuum and it has the runtime for tackling large jobs. Or, I can throw my impact driver's 2ah into the trimmer if I need a few extra minutes of runtime. With Milwaukee, there are a lot of options.

    I've watched all your videos plus several from others. I'm still torn. I'm a carpenter and have all Milwaukee battery tools. They stay on my truck most of the time except when I am able to leave them on a jobsite. I'm really not sure how necessary it is for me to stick with the platform considering they will be used at different locations. I don't want to take a battery off my truck to use in the yard because I might forget to put it back on the truck. So the yard batteries will stay with the yard tools no matter which way I go. I have played with the Milwaukees at the store and love the feel and balance of them. I went there to buy the Ryobi and just happened to pick up the Milwaukee. Put the Ryobi back and came home and now I'm here trying to make up my mind. Ego wasn't even on my radar until I saw your videos searching for "Milwaukee vs Ryobi trimmers". I'm not interested in too many features, mostly want it to work every time for many years. Right now I'm only interested in a trimmer, blower, and edger but could see getting a mower if my old Lawnboy ever dies. Kind of been wanting it to for several years now. I own almost all the Milwaukee yard tools including the string trimmer. I also own the Ego lawnmower by itself (self propelled with plastic deck). I expect all the tools will last me a good while but I would be surprised if Ego's quality was up there with Milwaukee. I have dropped and abused several of my Milwaukee tools including my drills, light, vacuum etc... and have not been able to kill a single Milwaukee tool. They seem to last forever. Ego does offer a lot of value and good performance though. The 7.5 battery that comes with the 500 dollar self propelled lawn mower is a very big battery with 420 watt hours. Just to give you an idea the m18 (9amp) battery has about 150 watt hours. A lot of power is needed to run a lawn mower. The fast charger that comes with the Ego will charge it in just 1 hour. Compare that to the other lawnmowers and they all offer a slightly more expensive mower kit that comes with a smaller battery. Ego makes 3 lawn mowers, two of which have a plastic deck and 1 that has a steel deck. They also make a snow blower that runs on 2x the 7.5 batteries. They also have a commercial line up with a backpack battery. The amount of tools they offer is impressive. I like Milwaukee more but considering they don't make a lawnmower I'm very happy with my Ego mower so far. I bet the 7.5 battery it came with would last a long time in the string trimmer.

    I’m a dewalt guy, I’ve got a lot of their power tools and batteries. I’m looking to replace my gas trimmer and blower with a battery set. I was going to get the dewalt kit but I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews about their outdoor equip. Would yo recommend going with the ego kit? Or stick with the dewal since I’ve got the batteries and chargers

    Why don't you mention Watt-Hours? The Milwaukee's battery has 162 WH and the EGO has 135 AH. Everything else being equal the Milwaukee should go slightly longer than the EGO - which it did. By the way, when trimming long grass start about a foot from the top and then work down to the bottom. Your trimmer won't wrap up the grass around the head like it did in your video.

    • @Kitearmy
      @Kitearmy  5 років тому

      Great tips - thanks. I don't plan on making it a habit of trimming 5 foot tall grass. Yeah stay tuned for the EGO 10Ah vs Milwaukee 12Ah

    I really don't think this was a apples to apples comparison. First, please compare EGO multi-head tool, at least on price, to the Milwaukee multi-head tool. The EGO isn't available bundled with a battery and charger. I personally need a string trimmer and edger. To get this with EGO's multi-attachment product, I would have to buy the powerhead, line trimmer attachment, edger attachment, battery, and charger all separately. This amalgamation of parts would cost me $800+ if you can find the necessary pieces in stock. The Milwaukee would be $299 plus about $109 for the edger attachment. I think a mention of, you are stuck with only a line trimmer with the EGO is in order when comparing the two. I am certainly not a Milwaukee fanboy, I am just researching the two brands and jumped on your video hoping for some clarity. Unfortunately, it left me with questioning your methodology and perhaps motive in your conclusion.
