Definitely worth it. It's why I don't watch other channels so much now. They are showing less of the actual work and are either blowing their own trumpet or doing a naff infomercial. Your stuff is WAY more interesting.
This is the problem with our industry, there is far too much pressure to get the job done quickly and cheaply by sacrificing the quality of workmanship. You have a perfect platform to help educate the next generation of sparks. Keep up the good work.
100% worth doing IF it makes you happier, I constantly try new ways of doing things, be it for aesthetic value, or to save the customer money either now or in the long run with future changes in mind
As a mainteance spark that has worked in the same buildings for 25 years I wish I had your attention to detail when I started, I do now and its often I go back to a job and its great to know yes I drilled them joists at 650 from the wall or whatever, that extra few minutes is always worth it IMO, top work well done
I can confirm the Crewe rewire mentioned at the end was done very well! I did chuckle at the bit where you were chopping the old cables. Must've taken a while to edit that
I’ve been off my tools now for nearly 10 years after moving into the design side of the industry. The quality of your workmanship is well beyond that I see from most of the contractors and sparks I deal with now. I would say in most cases it’s definitely above what is required, but unless it’s costing you work, then keep at it. It’s great to see, and hopefully helps inspire others to drive up their standards.
Brilliant clean work as always man taking that little extra time means you and customer are happy. Lashing it in then not being sure we're things are will cause time later or as you said plasters/kitchen fittets drilling in to it later but your up and out way and clear were cables are.
I love watching your videos Nick and I'm not an electrician I'm actually a removals man self employed but I love your attitude to how you deal with being in customers houses and the respect you show their property and the fine examples you set for fellow electricians!Your work Is top notch keep up the amazing work and cracking videos!John..Dublin ireland
Definitely worth doing as neat a job as possible. When I did my apprenticeship 50years ago at a big electronics/defence company the old guys in the various training workshops always said “if it’s a great project, put your name on it, if it’s not great put someone else’s name on it…”. I find a competent DIYer will do a neat/great job because they have the time and the pride. Too many “professionals” do just enough to get paid.
As a UA-camr yes for you it’s worth it, for me no I wouldn’t use capping and I would just eye up the holes in joist it does not matter. Agree with going vertically where you can. At the end of the day the numbers on the screen at the end is the most important thing
It's definitely worth the extra steps. I'm sure your clients agree when they see such a clean install and all the effort. As a viewer, and somebody who has just started an electrician course. All of the info is absolutely invaluable. Keep it up and thank you 👌👍
Fantastic work Nick. 100% keep doing what you are doing. Always use tube. Love your new fixing method...think i need a Paslode! 90% of our work is hidden but someone one day will unearth it and think wow...somebody had pride in their work. Just getting back into your videos and you are so informative, new and old sparkies will learn from you. Thanks mate
Totally not a waste of time! It's that kind of attention to detail which would make me want you to do the work in my house. You should take pride in your work, and you're setting an example of what young sparks should be doing.
I changed over my consumer unit with an old school mate who is a fully qualified sparkie. I fitted a 100mm galvanised T-piece trunking over the double stack Contactum Defender 2 consumer unit and fitted all RCBO’s and a 100mA RCD isolator in the feed from the meter. Also fitted a non-maintained emergency light over it in the garage. Also new earth rods fitted as I am out in the countryside. Worked as a commissioning engineer in commercial projects for many years so only ever used galvanised trunking and my mate said your nuts but nice job 👍
If going the extra mile is personally satisfying, and it doesn't break the bank, then it's not a waste of time. Some would say that labor is itself a virtue. Being able to take pride in every job you do is never a waste of time.
I think you did a great job doing what you did, I also do the same thing just to make it easier on me when I come back to the job. I am a electrician here int he USA in Sherwood, Arkansas. Love watching you do your stuff.Laterrrr
Always best to take your time and do a good presentable job than have to go back and do it again. As a industrial spark these videos help me do a neater job
Totally 100% worth while. I spend so much time thinking and checking a job is done well and correctly. When a customer walks through that area prior to the other trades going in they see you spent time and effort getting it neat and tidy and went the extra mile.
Hi Nick ... not even a tradie and i watch your channel. If i had my time again i would probably train as an electrician. Love your vids. Just a quick question what is the drill hit you use to drill into the bricks/concrete please in this vid. TIA
is doing a neat job properly now "over the top" i would have thought stainless conduit or as when i started brass conduit would be over the top perhaps even some pyro ????
I think occasionally you may go a little over the top with precision but I would much prefer that to just throwing stuff in. You must gain satisfaction from knowing it's neat and tidy and done right. They do say, and are correct, that time is money but I'd rather pay a little extra to have the work to the standard you do. I was thinking that is it was being a sparky (or whatever trade), I'd want it to look the same as I'd do for my own house. So a little longer with your best efforts is defo the thing to do. Keep it up!
Hi Nick. Really enjoy your videos. Can the all round band we used to hold the cables without any conduit behind the dabbing plasterboard? I heard capping/conduit is not necessary behind dabbing
its not needed no, but we no how heavy handed builders / plasterers / dry liners can be....oval tube just gives the little bit of extra protection, and can be the difference in stopping cables getting damaged
I would say show it best when you have time but also show real world when there is limited time. Laser for joists holes etc can be dropped when time is not on your side....you do have a family to give time to also!
You do a nice job , just the one concern is that crazy staircase and the fact that a well not the brightest carpet fitter could , and it is just a could decide to screw his grips on with silly screws and bang, anyway been meaning to ask this what fixing method do you put on your schedule as you do seem to use alot of conduits 👍
Great video. Re over the top what’s your thoughts on pulling all the cables and switch wire to a central control panel with a ton of wago top jobs? I’m thinking of doing this to be able to run power in any way i like so if i want to run standard radial or individual power to lights etc. Means I’ll be able to use my Lutron Grafik eyes, or shelly switches and smart light switches with LCD touch pannels.
Great video, and great to see the extra mile of quality in your work! However, where on earth is the motorbike!!! As a new fellow biker I’m desperate to see you take it to a job. 😝
Top quality. I thought I was (the only one being) anal about planning ahead and getting lines straight and measurements exact and plumb lines true. Nice to see someone else taking care to get things just right. Exactly right. Super neat.
Absolutely nothing wrong with pride and quality Nick, beats price work any day. Its just about having the right balance in not overdoing it and driving yourself daft. Using a laser is great, but sometimes you just have to go with what is reality. Joists and walls are sometimes far from square, and measuring things to death only leads to disappointment if things don't work out.
Nick it is always worth the effort to just slow down and do things neatly. It shows pride in your work, and probably makes an impression on the other trades.
You take pride in what you do mate keep it up at the end of the day if you can walk away and know you’ve done the best you can and not cut corners your winning. I always got told think would you be happy with that in your house if no then don’t do it.
I notice that people are going back to the tool bags from the rucksacks. Is that because it's Velocity's latest product or is it better from electricians or do you use a tool belt set up? Would be interested in pro sparky feedback please? I need a popup table though. Useful for everyone
Steve Jobs had a similar obsession with the inside of the Mac... even though nobody would see it, he wanted the circuitry and electronics to look nice.
I think what you should is if you are breathing in the video you filmed just make it silent and add copyright free music so it’s a bit of mix with the videos. Have some with music and some with asmr.
I think once you set your standards high you will always work in this way and it's when you learn more you realise how much more there is to learn and your trying to perfect the work you do but it's also a sign you've got to take on something more challenging ... you've got the ability but question is what is the next level ?
There's definitely a point of diminishing returns but I have to say it's a lot easier to work on some thing down the road that was done properly. It's the whole what about the next guy thing.
Nothing wrong in doing quality work your promoting good standards, don’t worry about what others do. as long as you can afford it that’s fine. A couple hours is nothing really when you cost it into a rewire.
Its definitely promising to see a young lad taking pride in his trade and making sure he does a high quality job. Gives hope that the younger generation aren't all "influencer wannabe's" with no interest in a vital proper job.
Only you can really answer if it’s worth spending the little extra time. I would say keep asking these questions - 1) Do you feel better for putting in extra effort? 2) Is it causing problems either for yourself/business spending more time? 3) Does it benefit you and/or other electricians (and even dragon chaser’s 🚰😅 if any additional work is needed in the future? I guess as time goes on, you’ll find the perfect balance for how much extra tine/effort is viable.
Your the Boss, Nick. Do what makes you feel good in your Work. When I am working for someone, I do what the Boss says, within reason. DIYers can take as much time as they want, so they have no excuse.
Yes, it is worth it to go the extra mile if you're doing it for YT. It might be a bit much if it was just a job for a customer, but it's not just a job for a customer, it's for us lot as well😁😁 Another way to look at it is: is that what you'd do if that was your own house? I'm guessing yeah, so keep going with it luv you bye 😋

can't trust other trades not to damage cables if there just left on the floor....get them in conduit and fixed to the wall and there's no drama then. sometimes you need tot think ahead even if it takes a little longer
I seem to disagree with everyone else. My opinion FWIW, is that you need to strike a balance between maximising profit and being OCD. As you said. If it’s supported, in zones, and not liable to be damaged by plasterers/builders etc then do the minimum required. If I’m drilling a row of rafters I’ll use my drill width or a hammer or whatever as a measure- doesn’t need to be laser straight. I appreciate that! Cheers dude

100% worth it as a youtube spark, but as myself i also try and do the best job I'm capable of every time. not out to make a killing.

Whether it can be seen or not always do the best job possible.
I like you taking your time to show your sense of pride to do a good job! Anyone can do a sloppy job… 😮
Thanks mate
Always worth the time and effort 👍🏽. Some say you’re a true Artisan, others however say you’re a proper spark! 👍🏽
A retired electrician: " If the jobs worth doing, then do it right ". Was always my mantra. 👍
i like doing it right & tidy and feeling good about it even if its just cosmetic on the inside of the wall
Great to see someone taking pride in their work. Great video’s keep them coming

Great taking pride in your work for your own piece of mind, client and the next guy. Wonderful content pal.
You should be proud of the work you do, well done
Future self/sparkies will thank you.
We've all seen spaghetti wiring, and a nightmare dealing with it.
Spot on. Of course it’s worth it! Brilliant.

Well worth the extra time, it’s neat and settling for my ocd, thank you. 👍👍👍
Young Nick. Put a set of safety goggles on when using your nail gun into brick just incase anything fragments into your face. Good neat job buddy.
Totally 100% worth while. I spend so much time thinking and checking a job is done well and correctly. When a customer walks through that area prior to the other trades going in they see you spent time and effort getting it neat and tidy and went the extra mile.
Hi Nick,
When you drill the joists aren’t you supposed to be between .25 and .4 of the joist width?
Cheers Mike
Hi Nick ... not even a tradie and i watch your channel. If i had my time again i would probably train as an electrician. Love your vids. Just a quick question what is the drill hit you use to drill into the bricks/concrete please in this vid. TIA
well done Nick having pride in your work
Nice to see that the 'plumber' has wiped all the residue from ALL of the copper pipe joints...

Top quality. I thought I was (the only one being) anal about planning ahead and getting lines straight and measurements exact and plumb lines true. Nice to see someone else taking care to get things just right. Exactly right. Super neat.
@Nick - Have you ever accidentally stapled through a cable? Looks easy to do but IDK, I work in IT so have no idea
Absolutely nothing wrong with pride and quality Nick, beats price work any day.
Its just about having the right balance in not overdoing it and driving yourself daft.

YOU GOOD JOB! Though does require return of more “BUTS” in the speech but obvs with picture of a “BUTT” as they used to make me giggle 😂👍🏼
What is the laser you are using? It's really clear and much better than the heupar one I currently use.
If the walls are going to be dot and dab plaster boards should you avoid cable and pipe runs in corners?
How much time does the hail gun save on a job like this? Maybe we need a race time saved over cost of the gun and consumables
You take pride in what you do mate keep it up at the end of the day if you can walk away and know you’ve done the best you can and not cut corners your winning. I always got told think would you be happy with that in your house if no then don’t do it.

Hi Nick, I try and do the best job possible, you will get less problems in the long term and job satisfaction is so important to your mental health.
Question. I have all Dewault power tool and am thinking of getting the cable stapler. As you now have a comparison from the Milwaukee stapler is the Dewault worth getting?
Many thanks and keep up the good work.
The Dayl one is brilliant mate. Only difference between the two is the Milwaukee one is smaller and a bit lighter due to it being the 12 V one.
Thanks nick ,keep up the good work
I would have taken a permanent live to the mirror light not a lopped live,, they usually come with a wave on sensor etc.....also stop using the bloody middle knockouts on metal back boxes lol, always stick to the outer ones, seen you do this in a few videos now. and why not just use 20mm oval and tuck it into the back box?! such neater more cleaner way of doing it.
If you don't take your time to ensure everything is spot on Nic, then I'm sure that non of the other trades will,....nor will they give a flying fook..
Yoo Good Job ❤
Never do work you wouldn’t be proud of if another tradesperson came across it, or even you wouldn’t want to come across.
Why in conduit behind/ /under base units.. clipped close to floor or left way back on floor...
can't trust other trades not to damage cables if there just left on the floor....get them in conduit and fixed to the wall and there's no drama then. sometimes you need tot think ahead even if it takes a little longer
Anyone know the name of the quick release bit holder nick is using?
