    Mark: solving a mystery for a lot DIY pond builders like myself. Videos seldom explain the pump size/type they use and it remains a mystery for most of us. I think you were the first to show me a T-valve off of the main to regulate pressure as opposed to throttling the pump inline. Good stuff!

    Hi,
    This isnt technically pond related. Just wondering what kind of inline pump you would recommend for a cold plunge pool with chiller. The plunge holds approx 500 litres and ideally the pump needs to have 3/4 inch barb fittings, any suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers :)

    Hi Mark, I wanted to know if it is possible to use one "large" pond pump to run 3 different spillway displays. Two of the spillways are 12 inches wide and one spillway is 24 inches wide. The two 12" spillways will be about 7 feet high, and the 24-inch-wide spillway will be 8 feet high. How large of a pond pump would I need to run all 3 spillways? 5,000GPH or 8,000 GPH 10,000 GPH? Thanks for your help, and your videos are very helpful, full of wonderful knowledge!

    • @jws2196
      @jws2196 8 місяців тому

      So stronger flow to the larger spill way because of it's size and because it is higher than the 2 smaller sized spillways because of lower height and size! Thank you for your response. Also, the pond is approximately a 15 foot across circle and 30 inches deep, how big of a filter will I need? Will have plants and fish in it eventually. Thanks...

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  2 роки тому +3

      If you have a lot of leaves they are sucking and blowing so will suck in the leaves, they do carry on working however, in the ecosystem ponds leaves are not normally a problem I have three in the lockdown pond, two are in front of the skimmer and this helps the skimming action as the extra pull over to the skimmer box.

    Hi, I have a 1 acre deep pond (18 feet in the center). We are using 3 pumps to service 3 waterfalls -- side-by-each. Currently using Alpine 10,300gph pumps and they are getting clogged with algae and dying of burnout every 3-4 months... Its getting old... We try to fix until we cant and then I have to buy new ones... We do get Algae in the pond due to super hot summers and even all year... Over 40 degrees C (over 105 degrees F) in summer so algae is common... We submerge the Alpine about 10 feet as far as we can go with power cord... Any suggestions for replacement pumps? Do we need 10,300gph flow for a pump?

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  10 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for reaching out, I would recommend installing an intake bay, have all the pumps in one place away from the waterfalls.
      An intake bay, if your not familiar with them it’s like a huge skimmer box, these are indeed an excellent addition to a pond system. Intake bays help to remove debris, including algae, from the water surface before it has a chance to sink to the bottom. This can significantly reduce the load on the pump and improve its lifespan.
      In addition to removing debris, intake bays also provide an accessible and convenient location to house the pumps. This makes maintenance, cleaning, and eventual replacement of the pump much easier compared to a fully submerged setup.
      When designing the intake bay, it's important to consider the size and positioning. The bay should be large enough to handle the flow rate of your pumps, and it should be positioned where it can efficiently pull in floating debris (generally, this means it should be opposite to the flow of the waterfall).
      You could also add a mechanical filter, such as a filter mats or pond netting. The large mechanical filter (pond net or mats) traps the larger particles, so much easier to manage.
      These intake bays can be built to any size the key is to pull from one area over a large intake so it does not block up.

I live in rural Portugal and we don’t have, at least where I live, anyone to help me on this matter so with the help of a friend we just started digging. I want it to be nestled in between some rocks and tall enough to send the water burbling down over the rocks.

    what about solar pumps? I am putting in a small ~ wildlife pond that is far from electricity. It will be half bog/wildlife pond overflowing into a deeper goldfish pond. I think it will be 100 gallon wildlife and 200 gallon goldfish. I need a pump to take the water from the goldfish pond up to the bog/wildlife pond (about 2 feet up). I used to have 2 goldfish in a pond for about 3 years. Then I moved and temporarily housing them in a 150 gallon stock tank with a flower pot bog filter.
