Thanks man. I bought a property with a big koi pond that had been neglected by the previous owner and right now it's a giant breeding ground for mosquitos. Unfortunately the fish are dead and I was trying to figure out the filtration system so I could hopefully bring the pond back to life and your video helped out a bunch.
Thank you for explaining all this. I kept seeing commercials on what these look like but I never understood how to set it up. This gives me a better idea. Thank you!!
Mahalo Brah! You, My friend just solved my problem here in China. We moved into an apartment with an existing dry hole on the porch for a pond, and I have been RACKING my brains trying to DIY this EXACT problem.
This is exactly what I needed for my little 50 gallon pond I'm putting in. Thank you for sharing! This will make my life with my first pond ever so much easier.
Funny I just found this exact water fall on amazon today fo rmy 50gal pond. and planned on doing exactly what he did. So nice to see someone is doing what I planned on and it is succeeding.
I got a small waterfall filter for my small goldfish pond a year a go and it’s working great. I stuffed it with some pond cotton, a filter and lava rock. I haven’t had any issues with ammonia or nitrates during the last year. Also the water is crystal clear
I used to do aquaponics on Maui. I had about 6 systems running of different designs. I used tilapia and cinder grow beds that became my bio filter to clean the water and the fish excrement went to feed the plants. I've moved to Virginia now and built a duck pond. Of course with nothing but water and duck doo doo, it's a green mess. I was looking at using an air lift pump for the water, but decided a decent pump off Amazon would be easier with a head height of about 16'. It's been a few years since I did any filters, so I'm surfing your ideas and others. I'm a scrounger whenever possible, so I will use materials I've collected. Probably a 50 gallon plastic barrel with all the bio media inside. I also have a large old pool sand filter and may insert it inline too. Cleaning water from my ducks and geese is a fairly major task, but I hope to make it work. Nice video you out together here.
Mahalo! I'm nearly finished with my pond and I actually have already purchased a spillway just like yours. I'm happy to have stumbled on to your video about your diy filtering system. Thanks for this video. It worked almost *perfectly* for the little 50-gallon preformed pond my wife wanted for the corner of our yard. I originally had all the same filter media but in a submerged solid basket with the pump at the bottom. It would suck the water down through the filters and then pump the clean water back out. With your great spillway filter idea, I was able to free up all that space and move the filters outside the pond leaving only the pump inside. My algae problem is gone, the water is crystal clear... nice aeration from the waterfall, easier to clean, etc. The only problem I have now is that the pump clogs weekly. I have a square of 35 PPI filter over the pump inlet, but I have to clean it weekly or the waterfall slows to a trickle.
That’s so awesome to hear …. As far as the pump goes get a pump bag they sale them on Amazon it’s just a netted bag that you put your pump in to protect it that would work just fine
@@HaYNFishKeeper That's what I was thinking too, so a while back I searched for "mesh pump bags" on Amazon, but they were all those 12" - 15" drawstring jobs... huge for this tiny pump. I freed up all that space in this tiny pond... I didn't want to fill it back up again. Your link to eBay helped me find the much smaller ones, so I guess I needed to include the word "zipper" in my search. Thanks again.
What did you use as pump for your water fall filter? Because I'm planning on making in indoor stock tub pond in the basement where I keep my fish tanks.

So you need to tell me if the spillway pump has a intake tube running from the pond. I assume it's buried and the pump can pull that water uphill without issues. Right?
Dear Sir , thank for the great tip advice referring to the pond filter . I'm having positive results and the system is working very well . Overall , I spent about 30.00 in all . Again thank you , God Bless You , be safe 😀
Great job on that. Fresh water clams are locally found in many rivers and could also be used, they typically use fish as their reproductive host though, so consider putting them in a pond with fish.

@@Misha4real Yes, about 6 x this size filter, even more if you plan to have fish. I create biofalls filters using loft water tanks, 3 -4 layers of foam and then highest quality bio-media on top placed in a mesh bag - as much as you can
Thanks SO much for this very informative video! I am 71 and have lived at this 100 plus year old Victorian home for 30 years now. It came with an in ground cement pond 450 gallons but I am still trying to figure out how to set it up as far as fish , pump , filtration etc. since the pond is under a pomegranate tree and a bush I am trying to figure out how to keep debris out.plus put enough oxygen in for fish. I am low income so this is great news. I will definitely try this. Thanks again!
I know an older post but love this idea. What were the flat stone's called that you got from Home Depot that you made your cover out of? Thank you kind sir.
Love the video, I made this filter for my pond and it worked well, only problem about this filter is how the filter media can get clogged and the water spills out the back, drained my whole pond because of that, but besides that problem worked well.
Nice video mate but I think the filter is undersized and you will have to do frequent filter cleans, once the filter floss is clogged all the muck will just pass through,
Love this set up, wish we could've seen how you get the water from the pond into the waterfall reservoir though? what pumps it up into the waterfall? That's the part I'm stuck on. Thank you!
I wonder if pennies would help get rid of the algae growth in the pond like it does a bird bath? Of course it would take more than a few pennies in a pond that's big but maybe copper piping or something? It's the copper in pennies that helps keep the growth of algae and mold down. Just my mind wandering on this. Great video by the way!!
Where have you been?!!! Really wish I would of seen this video before I started my pond last year!! This is exactly how I have been wanting to make my pond! Thanks for all the tips!
What’s that little bag? can you send a link?? Thank you! Also thank you for making an entertaining, straight to the point video! I literally have to fast forward so much “extra content” your the best!
Thanks so much!! I tried this and its amazing. i used a bag of activated carbon instead of the media you used and it works very well in addition to my pond filter, I might not even need the pond filter now this idea seems to remove more gunk than the filter.
Awesome content! Thanks so much for sharing! In the middle of a natural swim pond build in SA TX! Lived in Hawaii’ for 4 years amd miss it all the time! Hoping to create our own island oasis here!
Saw your video about all in one filer. I looked on ebay and Amazon but couldn't find anything close to what you were showing in your video. Where do I find one like you had in your video. Thanks Dan
I love your advice on bio filtration. I will check our existing spill box and get that up to snuff. Our pond is exposed to a lot of sunlight. Shall I cover it for a portion of the day with a tarp until I can get some more plants/water lilies in to shade it naturally? Thoughts?
I'm starting out with a 35 gallon outdoor pond . 3 Butterfly Koi and 4 small Orandas . All is good . Still learning but all is going very well and the fish are starting to grow , good color too . Hopefully I can send you a pic and give me some advice
Ricardo Guevara first advice need to go bigger with that many fish especially 3 koi they produce a lot of waste that will mess up the water quality very fast🤙🏽🤙🏽
Fish Keeper , I need some help . My Koi is swimming side ways , a bladder issue . I used Epsom salt this morning . I put the fish in a five gallon ice chest , diluted less than cup of epsom in warm water . I gently placed her in the solution for 7 minutes . No stress occurred at all . Did I do this right and if so , how often should I continue this treatment . Please help and advise
Oh man I wish I could help more for you but I’ve never had a koi with a swim bladder you can always try to relieve the air but you need to stick a needle in to release the air I’m definitely not equipped to do or tell someone how to do it I’m sorry look it up on UA-cam you’ll definitely find some koi owners that have had this prob 🤙🏽💯🐠
Hi! Thanks for the video! Can you explain what the media is in the net bag and where to get it? I’m new to ponds as we are just building one, and I purchased the same spillway which is how I found your video. Thanks!
This was very helpful. Do you have a video that shows how you set up the tubing? I am wondering how to keep the little fish from being caught in the filter as well.
Hi, How do you hide the tubing coming out of the waterpump? is the tubing under or over the liner? your advice is appreciated. I am building a waterfall pondless stream and I am unsure how to hide the tubing.
Ahhh yes totally easy Angie!! The tubbing is on the outside I disguise it with rocks just be creative run it behind under however that’s it! Thank you so much for the love and support🤙🏽🐠❤️🐠🤙🏽

@@creativecascades1328 Thank you, that really helps! Stay Blessed
I love this so much. I’m so ready to have my waterfall
Glad you like this super easy and cheap🤙🏽🙏🏽♥️
This is gold,,, hi, I have a 275 gallon pond, would this exact setup be enough filtration for my pond?
Thanks
It depends what you stock your pond with if you don’t over stock it it’s gotta be able to take the bio load
I don't know if you covered this before, using native plants for some aspect of filtering your water.
Oh definitely some floating plants are great!!🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
I use that same box, but I use gravel, then a sponge and amazon frog bit on the top and water is crystal clear 👍🏼
Great idea love it 🤙🏽🐠🤙🏽
I know this is an older video but this is exactly the filter I’ve been looking for my 300 gallon pond! What pump do you use for the filter? Thanks!
Oh check out this video I did!! I use this one you’ll love this ua-cam.com/video/hVsUdYQ8GQY/v-deo.html
I’m totally using this method and it’s working great!
Isn’t it a great little diy filter!🤙🏽💯🤙🏽
what size tubing did you use to connect to the waterfall box? Great video!
1’ 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
How big is your pump for the waterfall/filter? Excellent video brother!
Thank you the Pump is smaller it’s like a 800gph pump!!🤙🏽🤙🏽
I know an older post but love this idea. What were the flat stone's called that you got from Home Depot that you made your cover out of? Thank you kind sir.
They were called Arizona Flat stone I think something like that
@@HaYNFishKeeper thanks can't seem to find them in my area. Are they real stone or plastic. Thanks
Amazing video Mel!!! Well done 👏👏👏
Ahhh this is the video you were talking about lol thank you L appreciate you!🤙🏽💯🐠🎏
@@HaYNFishKeeper hehehe yesss 🙌🙌 appreciate you too 👊

Great video. What was the pump used for the waterfall?
800gph pump I got at Home Depot
Your video is verymuch informative plz tell me where can I get that type of tub used for filtration
I got it at Home Depot or Lowe’s
Love the video, I made this filter for my pond and it worked well, only problem about this filter is how the filter media can get clogged and the water spills out the back, drained my whole pond because of that, but besides that problem worked well.
Yeah I make sure the pond liner goes under the waterfall spillway so when it gets clogged the water just overflows back into the pond!🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽💯💯💯
@@HaYNFishKeeper smart! I’ll probably do some renovations during the spring, thanks!
@@thefishguy3755 you can always over lap a piece of liner make sure it’s about 10in in length over
Nice video mate but I think the filter is undersized and you will have to do frequent filter cleans, once the filter floss is clogged all the muck will just pass through,
I also have a box filter in the pond too🤙🏽🤙🏽
Love this set up, wish we could've seen how you get the water from the pond into the waterfall reservoir though? what pumps it up into the waterfall? That's the part I'm stuck on. Thank you!
Oh it’s super simple watch this video I go more into detail ua-cam.com/video/tgVc1nz27JI/v-deo.html
You gotta be careful because to much copper can kill the fish 🤙🏽🤙🏽💯
Where have you been?!!! Really wish I would of seen this video before I started my pond last year!! This is exactly how I have been wanting to make my pond! Thanks for all the tips!
Gerardo Alegria sorry braddah u can still do it my man! 🤙🏽🐠🤙🏽
What’s that little bag? can you send a link?? Thank you! Also thank you for making an entertaining, straight to the point video! I literally have to fast forward so much “extra content” your the best!
Ahhh thank you Jen appreciate u!! As far as the media bag goes you can find them on Amazon and eBay just type in “Aquarium Media Bag” 🤙🏽💯🤙🏽
Thanks so much!! I tried this and its amazing. i used a bag of activated carbon instead of the media you used and it works very well in addition to my pond filter, I might not even need the pond filter now this idea seems to remove more gunk than the filter.
Oh it’s my pleasure I’m glad this DIY pond filter is working for u! It’s so perfect! Thank you for the love and support 🤙🏽🐠🤙🏽
How did you make that filter? Can you post a video?
Great video. Very thorough. We appreciate it - especially those of us "balling on a buddddget" 😉
I love it much love and Aloha appreciate the kind words!🤙🏽💯🤙🏽
Awesome content! Thanks so much for sharing! In the middle of a natural swim pond build in SA TX! Lived in Hawaii’ for 4 years amd miss it all the time! Hoping to create our own island oasis here!

Thanks Man! Going to give it a go. Seems like exactly what I'm looking for for the small water garden I'm making.
Right on it’s my pleasure braddah
Saw your video about all in one filer. I looked on ebay and Amazon but couldn't find anything close to what you were showing in your video. Where do I find one like you had in your video.
Thanks Dan
Oh wow really I got mine on eBay, that’s weird maybe they’re sold out they are a really shot item people buy!! Dang sorry braddah Dan
What pump do you have? Can you put a link to it please? Awesome video sir!

How do you clean it? Looking for method for my AquaPond. Thanks for sharing.
Easy just shut it off and and take all the sponges and media out and wash it with the hose🤙🏽💯🤙🏽
Best of the 6 vids I found, thanks.
Ahhh that’s awesome thanks for the love 🤙🏽♥️
I love your advice on bio filtration. I will check our existing spill box and get that up to snuff. Our pond is exposed to a lot of sunlight. Shall I cover it for a portion of the day with a tarp until I can get some more plants/water lilies in to shade it naturally? Thoughts?
Oh check out this video look what I did for a very low cost you will love it ua-cam.com/video/GvkOx1hjz7A/v-deo.html
Kia ora, bro. Just digging a pond and flow out in my yard. Been stressing about filters and that. This was super helpful bro. Thank you
Right on braddah real simple 🤙🏽🐠🤙🏽
Love the video. You helped me alot. Make sure your voice volumes are at the same level throughout the clips. Helps with the hearing aspect.
Yeah my mic was acting up!!
How do you get the water into the filtration system? Do you use a pump? If so what brand.

Thanks!

hi thanks for the advise. Can I use charcoal as media? .
U can but it’s only gonna help make your water clear not host bacteria 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Hi, How do you hide the tubing coming out of the waterpump? is the tubing under or over the liner? your advice is appreciated. I am building a waterfall pondless stream and I am unsure how to hide the tubing.
Ahhh yes totally easy Angie!! The tubbing is on the outside I disguise it with rocks just be creative run it behind under however that’s it! Thank you so much for the love and support🤙🏽🐠❤️🐠🤙🏽
Great video!! I watched this last yr and made one of these! 110% works. Takes some maintenance to keep it clean tho
