Some People act like this game gets criticism because it's too dark or Joel dies when that's just not true. The game has pacing issues and character inconsistencies that border on bi-polar disorders. There's so many moments when I felt like the characters were making decisions just to further the plot I lost count. The general concept of the story is fine. In fact you can keep the overall concept entirely. But it feels so fabricated half of the time it's just bad. Plenty of loved main characters die in story telling and it's not always pretty. Brushing off criticism as just fanboys being upset a character died is ignorant of the things actually wrong with this games story
@EuropeForEuropeans1161 Russo brothers called it a masterpiece. Which it is. Lemme guess, you thought it was too woke 💀. The story itself is much bigger and has more consequences than the first game. Both are great, but II is a whole other level. In a story centered on themes of Revenge and Forgiveness, the writers delve deep into the character what would happen if Ellie lost everything? Its consequences are truth to life. From the basic concept of TLOU part 1, this was never going to be a 'happy ending' story nor will it ever be. And thats why it is literally the best game of all time right down to the ending. Ellie is born anew and thus broke the cycle posed by Joel's teachings. 'Revenge' is not the answer, and Ellie had to lose every bit of herself to see that, which is true to life in the average person especially a stubborn one such as you who clearly doesnt understand the story at all. 10/10 Case closed my boy.

Joel is a great character he’s like a great father figure to Ellie his job was to smuggle her but he ended up loving here he’s a real misunderstood character
Now that I've seen this. This could have been a pretty cool spin if we went from flashbacks of younger Ellie and Joel together, to all of a sudden older Ellie starts having a mental breakdown and every time she was having an episode in a dangerous moment there was Joel "coming back from the dead" to be the calm in her head. Like imagine a scene where she starts to breakdown right before she goes looking for more WLFs that are on the other side of a destroyed wall and Joel comes crouching up next to her, says he will take care of it. Then you get to play as Joel for a moment, but once you leave the area it enters a cutscene where we find out it was actually Ellie the entire time.

in a story where Ellie could have been seeking revenge for something that happened to Dina, having Joel appear despite their estranged relationship would’ve provoked some damn emotions

TLoU2 this is what makes it a masterpiece. Same as endgame; Ironman cannot live forever. All things end. Flashbacks, ptsd episodes, define what Ellie has been through as if it was a real person. And not a person with infinite plot armor.
That's an excuse for bad direction
The whole game doesn't work if the player doesn't care about abby
There was no point of Jesse as a character other than being a sperm donor
Joel and Tommy behaved like amateurs
Abby had insane aimbot and plot armour
There are many more flaws. The game isn't realistic it just felt forced
@EuropeForEuropeans1161 nope.

We have eyes and are able to understand the 9th grade level plot of the first game
No shit
Reminds me of Lee and clementine from the walking dead game, where clementine has encounters with lee in her own mind but at the age she is at that moment and him knowing exactly whats going on even though he is dead
That would be so cool!
You can see it in her eyes, for a few moments she genuinely thinks it’s Joel who’s behind her and I believe at that moment she really wished it was him.💔
