Jesus I think Part 2 would have really really really benefited from including a DLC of what Joel did in those 20 years. This would 1. Satisfy the people who craved for more Joel is this game and 2. Build on his character even more, show us stuff we didn't even know about him, making us want to go back and replay the games with a brand new perspective. Would've been so so good.
I don’t think you could do those 20 years justice with a dlc. I think a full game can be made from that.
Wouldn’t have changed the stupid writing of his death
I think it wouldn't work out well in a DLC, I guess it could be a good idea for a 'The Last of Us Part 3', where we see all the stories of Joel and Tommy between 2013 and 2033.
The Last of Us Part 2 introduced new characters and new possible future stories. I think they did the right thing with both games.
I completely agree. I wouldn't be surprised if part 3 makes that a big part of the game somehow.
It would have been amazing
Great video, one small detail. Corydeceps is a fungal infection, not viral. Which is why Spores from Bloaters are so deadly.
Was gonna say this. You beat me to it.
Yep
How the heck did they mess up that detail?
He mentions that at 3:50
@@WinstonKillDeathyeah such an integral and obvious part of the whole lore, you see the spores right after ffs
In order to make up for killing Joel, in the first 2 hours, they really need to make a prequel game with Joel and Tommy during those 20 years
Joel's dead. Revenge destroys everything . Pt2 explained that clearly
Don't forget tess
@@hassanjohnson7675 well yeah of course, I said the 20 years that we didn’t see, so Tess and bill would be there somewhere, and other characters that die that we don’t know about
@@gdiego135 talking about bill and tess i noticed in tess's list that the meetings with bill started several weeks apart then shortened to fewer weeks and joel probably arrived at bill's town 2 weeks earlier than he should (in her list it says 3 more weeks and I'm assuming it took around a week for joel to walk to bill's town). wonder what they would get this time since tess complained about the last drop being too mid
They ruined the story honestly and no it's not "REALISTIC" I'm not even gonna point that shit out but there's no interest in the last of us any characters we cared about are either ruined or dead and the fact that they most likely have to resort to a prequel game shows that they really missed the mark on part ll
God Of War regarding Kratos would probably be a good next video. Since the next game is coming out soon. And it gives new players a understanding on why Kratos is the way he is. (His past, his emotions etc)
i had this Theory a while back that Norway was left mostly unharmed due to having their own supply of basically any Natural Food Source like Veggies, Meats and Fish etc. but when the infection got closer, they cut themselves off completely with ruthless killings on the borders of Russia and Sweden, using high exlposive ordnance to create literal canyons that noone could cross.
i wonder if this theory could be made into a game on it's own. would be hell'a interesting to have an Episodic game set in other countries, Norway being one of them. the UK as well would be VERY interesting to see how the Fungal Infection affected life there.
Britain likely fell very fast due to our dependence on exports and high population density. However people in rural areas such as the Yorkshire dales or the Scottish mountains would likely build settlements similar to jackson. Infected likely became shambles due to the high rain levels.
That does not sound like a fun game idea at all, maybe a short story or something but how would you play through that? Just boring even for post apocalyptic standards.
@@CallForGrandPappy dlc maybe?
@@CallForGrandPappy so expnading on the story isnt fun to you? damn, that's sad.
Funny thing is I also sent an email to naughty dog highlighting the 20 years following Sarahs death, which gives them a perfect window of opportunity to continue the series. I hope they see this !💯
That would be pretty cool!
My thoughts were that if they wanted to do a story on how revenge destroys oneself and those around they could have show Joel as a hunter trying g to find the CO who gave the order to shoot him and Sarah with Tommy initially supporting him but as the years go on he ends up viewing Joel's actions as meaningless violence and joins up with the Fireflies. Show Joel getting g increasingly detached from people and his actions.
9:22 I do belive joe tried as their is a conversation in the hotel after ellie sees 2 dead body and tell joel "guess they took the easy way" which joel respond "it ain't esay for most it's better than a clicker or hunter doing it but trust me it ain't easy"
Good observation
Absolutely LOVE the way this video was broken down and explained. Great work💯
loved the video, had it on in the background when sketching. Clear information and great delivery!
That sudden gunshot-audio was a sudden scare though (thematically fitting xD)
I really wonder what happened to the Boston QZ after Joel and Tess left in Part I. Was there a civilian uprising? Did Marlene leaving for Salt Lake City allow for FEDRA to claim victory over the area? Did FEDRA pull their forces out completely and abandon the civilians to fend for themselves?
It’s also sad to think that so many people who were close to Joel and Tess in the Boston QZ never saw them again after they left the wall and met Ellie. They probably think that either FEDRA captured them or that they died. (Eventually that was true 😢)
In Part II it’s pretty much assumed that after the 5 year jump, FEDRA and the Fireflies no longer exist anywhere. But we eventually find out about Santa Barbara
This is awesome video!! We need part 2!
I refuse to believe that Joel and Tess weren't together at some point, however brief.
Thought it was pretty explicit that they were
They even have an optional conversation. Joel- " haven't been out here in awile" tess- " it's like we are on a date " joel- " well I am the romantic type " tess- " you've got your ways" even tess before she dies says... there's enough here for you to do this for me. They were definitly romantic
It’s brief and subtle, but in the series, Tess lies down next to Joel to sleep and she wraps her arm around his tummy.
Great video, I never knew exactly where and how the virus originated. Looking forward to more from this new series!
It’s not a virus a fungus
much probably came from brazil (you either come to brazil or brazil comes to you. the saying proved itself to be true)
What I really want is for Naughty Dog to make this prequel, the darkest time of Joel's life...
Shhh, the people who are in denial about him being a bad guy don’t want to hear that.
Yes, I think that would be pretty cool!
This was extremely well done 😊 Great stuff!
I love how the tv show did change some of the game Lore yet at the same time they expanding it like the intro for each episode.
Maybe I’m a villain but FEDRA seems like the least worst option, the fireflies or wolfs apart from a handful are worse
Found this fascinating. Just completed part 2 so can now binge these vids lol. Also, you have really nice eyes.
Good recap! God of War, Horizon, Assassin's Creed, Red Dead all have well-established lore.
Looking forward to more.
The gunshot at 4:11 scared the shit out of me bc I was looking at the comments XDXD
Same shit was loud af
Just beat Part 1 and very close to the platinum. Realized I'm way more into TLOU than I thought.
Gonna replay Part2 for the Platinum as well. Hopefully we get a PART 3 someday
Have fun! Both are great!
in part 3 there will be even more transvestites
@@georgel760 a game should be rated on story, gameplay, music etc... not the sexuality of the cast. but you wouldn't be mature enough to be bigger than that.
I love your Scottish accent! :) it’s very calmed and easy to understand.
No it’s not
10/10 ! Love it…..please continue the story 😍
Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it! I hadn't picked up about Joel's time as a Hunter
Oh yeah, one of the original plans for Abby’s connection to him was to have her be a survivor of one of his ambushes. Joel was a baaaaad dude for a long time. Makes sense that would eventually catch up to him
Thought this was an interesting video, and would like to see more of this more editorial stuff from you.
Great video!!
I really enjoyed this!
damn I knew every single thing you mentioned in this video. this says a lot about my love for this game
Love this video. I’m a new subscriber!
I've been waiting on a vid like this for some time
I wish naughty dog would explore more of the universe or the 20 years leading up to the first game, they did such a good job with the human factions and conflicts.
Instead of The Last of Us Part II, we should've got a game that takes time BEFORE the first The Last of Us. A prequel, in which we play as Joel on the first years of the infection, keeping Tommy alive, heading to Boston, meeting Tess and making some deals with Bill.
Can you imagine playing as Tommy and Tess on some parts? That would be great!
Hell yes, exactly what I've been thinking about. I'm really interested in the _first_ 20 years, how things got to this point
Excellent video.
I've been playing games since the ZX Spectrum and was enraptured by pixel graphins and bleep-blop sound effects and to many years later experience many different gaming platofmrs TLOU in many different ways for myself created a moment in the present and what can be for the future in terms of technology. The game is a filimic voyage of discovery as an art form that most people are aware of so it has some familiar narrative landmarks but it breaks out of that with the player input and that for myself raises expectations for what's to come whilst being pleased with what has happened so far over the past 35 years of on and off gaming. BIG love to ND and Push Sqaure
That picture of Joel in the thumbnail looked more like Wolverine to me than Joel lmao
Fungus are not virus. Fungus is at least alive and constitutes its own kingdom differentiating it from plants and animals.
He's recording from the basement. This game is lovely and deserves this kind of videos. I'll be looking out for more of it. Great job, lads
You're editing and format sir are 🤌 also, I cannot wait until this multiplayer dlc comes bruhhhhh 😅
Glad you enjoyed it! And seriously, how long are they gonna make us wait for this damn multiplayer?!?! I feel like I’ve been waiting forever… - Aaron
@@pushsquare hopelessly I'm seeing by summer its supposed to be 😅
@@MyTownDrunk One can dream. I have my fingers crossed for it 🤞- Aaron
LOVE THIS
I wanna know what happened to rest of the world, I wanna know which countries got hit bad and which ones managed to avoid the infection
I would love to see this too! - Aaron
The whole world got infected but canada had more luck than the rest of the world
That was great. Loved it 🥰. Every time I hear that soundtrack, I’m overcome with feelings of somberness and despair. These games are just too damn good 👍
They really are I'm never tired of them. I'm sad that so many people didn't take in the second game well
I saw all the lore possible played amd beat 1 and part 2 many times still play factions multi-player too this day. I like the research I did through Seattle's hospital and especially ground zero I am most interested in the serphites prophets back story and marine and how she came too be queen of the fireflies
Is English your first language?
@collectiveleak yes but alabama school so I have the pass
11:34 they definitely hooked up more then once
I’d like to have a game with Bill and Frank in Lincoln town.
More of this content!
More, more, more please!!
gotta love that accent brodude! love it xD
Of course, this is a nightmare world, where you live your life knowing things will never go back to what they used to be. But, imagine what if humanity found a way to wipe the CBI infection and declare that pandemic over, rebuild what was lost and start anew - it would be, perhaps, humanity's greatest victory, ever.
Could have possibly happened if Joel decided to sacrifice Ellie
@@RhodokTribesmanImpossible. Some of the bodies of the infected were beyond repair. The fireflies weren’t likely to succeed.
@@dinglesworld The vaccine was to immunize the human populace (akin to how Ellie is), not turn the infected back into people
Why does Joel look like Daryl from The Walking Dead in the thumbnail? 🤣
I would love to see what became of NYC in that universe.
Yeah there would be so many awesome side stories in that I'd imagine. I'd even take them in book or comic form. - Aaron
@@pushsquare animation for me.
There are 8 million people in New York, the city also consumes a shit ton of flour, mostly in the form of deep dish pizza's and New York is a hub for immigration. New York in TLOU is completely fucked.
It’s not a virus it’s fungi
Those 20 years had to be ROUGH. We must see what happened.
As expected, there are complaints about part 2. I expected to be heartbroken the moment they announced the game, it’s not like the first one ended happy.
I think it’d be cool if the new last of us show was based on the 20 year gap
Jesus 20 years already!
THE LORE OF US
My friends ask me why I take this game to the Heart. During 2013-14 when I only had the ps3 with no wifi so no ps online- so i only got to play story based games- and The Last Of Us was on of them- as whet a 12 year old boy this game was horrifying and emotional- parents were a lul alcoholics so during those times Tlou would calm and smooth me dowm. This game is truly amazing
and people on north sentinel island are living same lives they have lived past 50,000 years
People were so mad when Joel got killed like he was good person, maybe before his daughters death but after he turned into a monster
Man you lost me when you called a fungus a virus
who is that in the thumbnail joe?
YO great game
And people are still saying that the enemies in the last of us1 and 2 are zombies🙄🙄🙄
26th of September is my birthday🎉
Happy Belated Birthday! - AB
I think the show should have explored the 20 years from Tommy perspective
jesus, joel was a monster. it takes one to survive this hellish place tho
Yeah its cool how this game shows theres no true “good” or “bad” guys just people doing what it takes to survive
Did not appreciate the volume swell in the gun shot
Fungus, FUNGUS Not a virus.
The first game was so good I hoped they would never make a sequel. That's the highest praise I can give as it ended so well for me that I wanted to just remember the game as a piece of interactive art/storytelling crystallised in time. Because once something is successful there are always greedy money people who are the antithesis of the creatives and want a piece of that pie. They then go on to tell the creatives how they can make more money if only they add ingredients the extremely uncreative money people promise will help. And then there's always the risk that politics will creep into a game. I mean, you wouldnt risk the significant chance that a few people making something may have differing values to the massive amount of people who will play your game would you? Surely you wouldn't want to ruin the purity of gameplay for politics and the risk of sticking your middle finger up at all the fans who helped make you a success by parting with the money they gained by giving time and labour away to have earnt it?
Fungus!
Why does joel look like norman reedus in the thumbnail?
I know The Last of Us and Days Gone are different IP’s but in a way, Days Gone is more like a prequel we never had. Huge hordes, marauders, cults etc…
4:43 mix your audio better you just killed headphone users
'Amedica'
Fungus... not a virus. Fungus
Not a virus
Evil within
Roanoke gaming does an spectacular job at explaining tlou lore
Why does the narrator repeatedly call it a virus, when it's key to the storyline it's a fungus, not a virus?
Joel didn't "deserve" to die, which is what fans of the second game's story would say. If Naughty Dog really wants me to buy the idea that Joel is a villain, give me a game which shows Joel around 10 years post-outbreak where he commits terrible crimes.
Well he did murder alot of the fireflies which were on some level the “good guys” idk n its hinted he did alot of murdering in those years by tommy
@@XXAnthonyCarmineXx he didn't murder... they were preventing him from saving his daughter. Joel was the only person next to Riley to value ellies life...rather than what she could provide humanity
I hate that there is not much information about what happened during those 20 years.
@4:03 wtf man
It’s a fungus not a virus
What is the virus? Played a lot of the games and did not know about that.
Spot on bro. However, I think their was a romantic relationship between Joel & Tess. He was just too much a hard ass for labels.
So what happened to the President in the Last of Us universe? I cant find an answer to that. Also obama is shown in a picture in the game but his face is covered and so is another spot but its obvious that its Obamna
I love how everyone keeps saying it’s a fungus we know you guys don’t have to keep saying it 20 million times
It isn’t a virus… it’s a fungus, as stated hundreds of times in the game
its not a visrus its a shroomwojak
In the first 20 years
At the 2 year mark where bloaters started to appear
Would be very interesting to see, then again the show did sort of highlight the reaction of a bloater tbh
I think part 3 should be from those missing 20 years of Joel.
No
@@Cain102 yes
@@ramzankadyrov6035 nah
you know they really need to consider making a TLOU 1.5 taking place a few months to a yr after joels daughters death
Love the idea of this kind of story. Would work great as a DLC I think -AB
This is something I've always been stressing about. It would make for a great prequel of sorts.
@@AmariMarvelous I think at this point its mandatory they give a 1.5/prequel just round out a trilogy or quadrilogy. imagine a new character is introduced that can roll into part 4 and finish out the series with 4 games or start a new spinoff.
@@lpvgs-817 I agree. They can split up the dev teams where one team work on the prequel and the other team work on Part 3 and that can finish the quadrilogy or the universe of that game series.
@@AmariMarvelous heck yea I wish I knew what they were up to or could tell them what the fans want a 1.5 and 3 would be sooo nice to have. I guess they are working on faction but we haven't seen anything of it yet its taking forever but hopefully will get some updates soon.
Is North America looks like this then South America is probably a nightmare
Couldn’t you collect enough of this fungus for it to indeed infect a human?.. This is all I can think of atm 😂💀🤠🤭, it already can with bugs.
bruh..not a virus..
Failed out the rip. It's not a virus but a fungus .
I’m sorry man but you got the dates wrong… the game takes place in 2023 (after the 20 years) so it started in 2003… THE GAME CAME OUT IN 2013
In the game the apocalypse starts in 2013 and it jumps 20 years ahead. This was changed for the show to 2003 and 2023 😁 - Aaron
@@pushsquare ahhhh thank you for the clarification cause I was confused… my apologies
This is what part 3 should be
Hopefully
I thought outbreak day was in 2003 and the action in the last of us was in 2023.
The show changed up the timeline, so those years are specific to it, but the game starts in 2013 and jumps to 2033! - Aaron
@@pushsquare The technology of the show is very 2003. No mention of smart phones or social media as existed by 2013. They're all reading physical newspapers in the first episode.
@@3506Dodge What?? Joel has a smartphone in the opening section lying on the counter where Sara reads the missed calls. There is also a lot of the technology in houses in 2033 that matches the 2013 range such as the TV's. People still read physical newspapers in 2024 so I don't understand that comment.
