Nice video! I love the idea of turning creatures with strong static abilities into enchantments, which are definitely harder to remove. Also cool that you added the counters to the deck so people know what to watch out for. Subbed, can't wait to see more!
Getting Avacyn down with Myrkul is always the dream. And yeah, I'd figured knowing how to counter the deck would be good for both pilots of the deck and players running into it. Thanks for the support :)
Building this myself currently. Sythis seems odd though, you don't run many enchantments per se. The cast trigger will not be helping so often. A nice creature next to Avacyn is Serra's Emissary. Gain protection from everything seems nice when you have token doublers for example
I don't run many enchantments because Constellation just looks for Enchantments entering the battlefield, not being cast. So it's more important to just ramp into Myrkul and then just turn everything into an enchantment.
i love this commander. Cards that manifest like Thieving Amalgam are completely insane as no matter what dies (exept if you manifested an instant or sorcery) you get a copy of it
Very nice, thanks for sharing! I'm personally trying to build a colorless artifact/artifact creature deck without eldrazi using Traxos, scourge of Kroog as commander and would be interested in another take on it. Or a Karn silver golem deck could be neat as well, understandable if it's not of interest tho
Sounds interesting. I've got another video coming this weekend with some different deck ideas. Building an artifacts deck is good timing as the next set coming in November is full of new colorless cards. I might wait for some more spoilers first though ;)
@@attackoncardboard yeah I'm new to MTG and just recently went through and learned the whole Brothers War story along with the new bits and am loving it. A deck of cool mechanical marvels to win the game sounds basically like my dream deck. I'm hoping the next set brings some more good options for colorless artifacts but I'm excited either way 👌
Great to hear you're getting right into MtG! I'll be gearing this channel towards beginners/intermediates so hopefully it helps you out. I'm always in the comments so if you have any questions or suggestions, go right ahead :)
Easiest way to look at it would be the wording. The devotion gods say "As long as your devotion is less then X, [Name] ISN'T a creature", it doesn't say "When you have X devotion, [Name] BECOMES a creature in addition to its other types". The latter would do what you want it to do because the card then becomes a creature. Because they don't become creatures, and they lose their inherent creature type with Myrkul's ability, there's no way for them to become creatures by themselves.
100% Correct :) "A permanent's crew ability can be activated even if that permanent is neither a Vehicle nor a creature (C.R. 702.122a). When it resolves, that permanent will be an artifact creature (in addition to its other types) until end of turn (C.R. 205.1b, 702.122a)."
Skull Clamp works extremely well with all of the mana dorks and converting them into cards and enchantments. Painful Truths is nearly always a 3 cost draw 3, Read the Bones and Sign in Blood can also help getting you to the 50% life total to make Myrkul indestructible. Beast Whisper is a great all round card. The new Braids, Arisen Nightmare fits perfectly into this deck. Grim Haruspec or Midnight Reaper both draw cards when things die, Plumb the Forbidden also kinda does the same thing. Rite of Harmony can be absolutely nuts. Moldervine Reclamation and Deathreap Ritual is another card to look at. Hope that helps!
I use Plumb the Forbidden ($2.11), Eidolon of Blossoms ($2.79), Augur of Autumn ($3.64), and Runic Armasaur ($3.71) as my card draw cards under $5 (as of this post). Viscera Seer (0.47)is a must also, especially if you can work it with Augur or Eidolon. Plumb the Forbidden helps turn your creatures into enchantments and draws cards for 2 mana. You can sac any number of your creatures and just pay 1 life per sac'd creature to draw a card for that creature. If you don't have creatures, then you can at least draw 1 card and lose 1 life. This also helps you get to 20 life to get that indestructible. Eidolon of Blossoms has constellation and draws a card for each enchantment that comes into play under your control. Augur of Autumn is pseudo card draw since it lets you play lands from the top of your library and also creatures if you have Coven. Runic Armasaur lets you draw cards anytime an opponent activates a non mana ability of a creature or land. Viscera Seer let's you sac a creature to scry 1. Not card draw but card selection, plus it helps turn creatures into enchantments. If you want to go up to the $10 area, Archivist of Oghma (9.83) and Bennie Bracks, Zoologist (10.39) are good options. Archivist gives you a life and draws a card anytime an opponent searches their library and we know how often searching happens. Bennie draws a card when you create any token. It only happens once a turn but if you have the sac outlets and creatures, that's basically one card on each player's turn.
Pretty basic Myrkul deck...all the fun toys at your disposal. Personally, I'm not a fan of infinite mana combos and Avacyn is just mean and unfun in this kind of deck...but overall, a pretty high power yet basic build. I would consider rewording the title, though...a $275 - $475 deck cost is far from what I would brand as "beginner friendly". That title I would tend to reserve for budget-friendly, easy to learn, fun to play decks. While this deck is easy to learn, and fun to play, it is NOT fun to play against (at least not in my experience) and is about $100 over (on the low end) what I would consider budget-friendly. So its price tag would scare most beginners away and it DEFINITELY (particularly with infinite combos and Avacyn in the deck) would not win any friends (unless said friends are try-hards, which...this is commander, not cEDH).
Hey, thanks for watching the video and leaving some feedback, always appreciated :) I went with "beginner friendly" for the title as in terms of piloting the deck, it's very easy. The hardest thing to wrap your head around is the sneaky things you can do with Myrkul and turning things into Enchantments which is what I covered in the video. I also like the idea that this deck can be build in many different ways so in terms of building it, it's more flexible and beginner friendly there too. When I was first being introduced to Commander (back when it was still called EDH), a deck having a single infinite combo wasn't out of the ordinary and people were generally prepared for things like this going into the game. I do like to include them in my Commander deck videos just as a "the option is here if you want it", and the combos I do include usually involve 2 or 3 cards so they . My other Commander deck videos that are budget friendly are clearly titled so I don't believe there should be any confusion there. I do have more Beginner content on the way, so I would love to get your feedback on those (or the Budget ones) :) Have a good one - T
@@attackoncardboard Yeah, I can see that. Myrkul is definitely one of those "looks complicated, but is totally straightforward" kind of commanders. As for the infinite combo thing, I totally get it. A LOT of playgroups tend to expect these sorts of things, they just aren't usually for me, personally (I've left cards out of a lot of my decks that would have optimized it for the lone reason of "it would be less fun to play against", but I don't expect other players to think that way). I'm liking the contend, though. Keep it up!
They're both cheaper than Craterhoof Behemoth :/ What win cons would you add? I thought I offered a variety of win cons in the video. It's not all in on those cards.
@@attackoncardboard I think they heavily depend on the Myrkul deck type. I guess, I would go for massive token generation, including sacrifice payoffs. Avenger of Zendikar, Rampaging Baloths, Felidar Retreat and Scute swarm will always be able to generate value, especially when you draw ramp late game. Due to Myrkuls high CMC it is not a bad idea to use the land matters theme for value. Overrun effects are great, but I do not play cards like craterhoof, just because he Is totally broken. There are cheaper and weaker alternatives like Pathbreaker Ibex. I personally do not play infinite combos or 1 card wincons like, Expropriate, Torment, Insurrection etc., because there is no real challenge by winning with them. MTG is all about fun and if your playgroup doesn't matter about these cards and play an high amount of interactions and Counterspells, then they should also be fine.
Totally understand. With this version of Myrkul the main theme is around the Blood Artist effects but that's why I enjoy Myrkul as there's no one right way to build him. Appreciate the time you took to comment on the video 😁

Agree. That's what Gisa is there for. Just a slightly cheaper version at 4 mana.

Top right next to Elvish Mystic :)
lol i see it, i was thinking Arbor Elf. @@attackoncardboard Everyone sleeps on Rift Sower. i get why players don't want to play Gilded Goose.

Unfortunately, not. Myrkul removes all their other types. You could run Opalescence to turn them back into creatures.
