I have a love/hate relationship with wine finishes, it’s either the same reaction as you with this Glenmorangie or I can’t get past the sour notes. Congrats and thank you for the past 250 reviews Jim! Here’s to many more 🥃

I might have invented a new word. I thought you were going to have a jimgasm. Great review. Congratulations on 250!

Aw I could tell you enjoyed this one Jim 😁 . Another engaging review and an interesting take on these wine cask finishes that seem to divide opinion. Having now positively come over to the Glenmo side of the track, I am hoping to grab a Quinta Ruben in next year's journey. I've already re-bought the 12 which is a wee easy-pleaser everyday sipper - but ya needs to shake things up every now and then with a wowzer.......maybe that Burgundy Wood finish is such a thing, but perhaps it requires a generous wallet?
Congratulations also on the 250 landmark buddy; looking forward to many more......and to think I nearly missed this review and had to back paddle. Must have been that Moine review that did it 😉👍!

Congrats on 250 reviews. Your time and effort putting out this content has been much enjoyed by many! One of the great things about whisky is the spectrum of expressions out there and how we all have different "sweet spots." Watching your review, I could hear Frank cursing wine finishes while hearing you enthusiastically recommend it. That is a wonderful thing. Like music, I have a very broad and maybe even eclectic enjoyment of a wide range of styles. I do love Maderia finishes, and I think peat and sherry make magic together. But, at other times I just want a blast of clean pure malt. Long live the variety we enjoy. Thanks for the review, Jim. It is always fun watching you enjoying a really good dram.

🤣🤣🤣 it's funny you should say that Bud. Every whisky I review, I hear my patrons opinions. Especially those of you who comment regularly (always appreciated)...and Frank's voice is always the loudest 🤣🤣. Don't get me wrong...I love it but, every Sunday morning, as I press "post" I hear (in a Dutch accent)...."uh 😫! Not another wine finish!" 🤣🤣🤣
      But, that's whisky right!
      Cheers my friend.

Nice auction find. Got a couple of miniature packs containing the 4 different finishes in the original range. All lovely 😍. And many congratulations Jim on your 250th anniversary!

It was the Irn Bru notes that did it for me, and put it on my buy list, thought not sure how much if any is available in Poland! It's quite pricey though for a NAS.

I like it a lot Euan but, I don't know that I would pay the prices being asked for it now. I paid €100 at auction which, given that it's NAS and, on paper, nothing out of the ordinary...was too much.
      Cheers buddy.

We had a bottle of Glencadam Burgundy wine finish. It didn't last long. I usually like wine finished whiskies, but I had a Quinta Ruban and hated it. I don't know if whisky can go bad, but that one turned me off Glenmorangie. But aside from that, congratulations on the 250 milestone. Cheers.

Cheers Peter. I've always found the QR to have these huge cola notes and found it very enjoyable. Wouldn't be the first time I've heard someone say that they don't quite get an expression that the rest of us do though. I still don't like Arran 10 for example 🤷‍♂️

Jim I really value your opinions and love the channel 👍
But ..I just don’t get the wine / Fruit whisky mix ..That makes me shudder thinking about it 🙈A bit of Sauternes , Gognac , Madeira casks creeping in now and again is just about ok , but I just don’t get the feeling that whisky and red wine casks ought to be a thing 😆
That said , it’s ages since I’ve dared buy/ try and it might be time to re.test .
    Usually
    Keep em coming mate 👍🥃

Thanks for reviewing, Jim. As I mentioned on Patreon, I'm not gonna buy this one - and I don't have it in my collection.
Why am I not gonna buy it? Well first of all.... a wine finish, phew - I always have a hard time with those. I'm not saying that this one would give me a hard time too, but I always get sulphur notes on (red) wine matured/finished whisky that just puts me off.
Secondly, the price seems to be north of 150£ online (maybe a bit lower on auctions, I haven't checked), no need to elaborate further on that 😅
But as I always say: There's definitely a Jura "out there" that I'll like (I've just not come across one just yet...), there will probably also be a wine matured/finished whisky that I'll like, and this could have been the one, who knows.
Glad, you enjoy(ed) it, cheers buddy! 🥃

To be honest Benny...I paid €100 for it, and that was pushing it.
I do like a good wine finished whisky and, this (imo) is a good example of that but, I can fully understand others not. I have a review of a port cask finished expression coming soon and, if I remember, I plan to dip into the subject a little further.
      Cheers buddy.

    Thanks for reviewing Jim.
Might be a special(ish) one, but somewhat too special for me. I rather leave the wine finished expressions for others to enjoy.
