Adam Rupp, is just one more reason to listen to Home Free. One song that Adam really showcases his talents is, Home Free's cover of "Some Girls Do", another one is "House Party" and of course his work on "Mayday".....Alex I was happy to see Brad shout you out last weekend, I can't wait to hear you dive more into Home Free's library of music
Adam is a freak of nature. Yes, he does a lot of those sounds while inhaling which is crazy. I often forget he’s doing the percussion while they’re singing - it sounds so good. I loved your reaction. Keep reacting to Home Free. By the way, all the guys can do some beatboxing.
The HF guys are usually available in chat prior to premiering their videos. During one of those chats, someone asked Adam how long it took him to learn to beatbox. His reply was, "I'm still learning." I've heard him described as a human drum kit. With all the other sounds he can make, I think he's more like a human synthesizer! One video where I think you can really hear his drumming is "God Bless the USA" with Lee Greenwood & the USAF Singing Sergeants. He also does a jet flyover at the end! Like you mentioned, I think it's amazing that he can do 2 or 3 sounds at the same time - or at least it sounds like it's at the same time!
Thanks for the analysis. It brought out some points that I would not have noticed on my own. When you consider that this was over 5 years ago, he has only gotten better. To me he has the most realistic set of sounds when doing percussion. And yes you do get a lot more bass presence in person. The phone recordings don't catch the depth.
Adam's original training was in trumpet, and I believe he's said that that helped him learn the breath control he needed to do something like this, or to keep the beat going throughout a whole song. As the others said, this is an older video - it's the one most people react to, so it has the most hits, so it gets more reactions. One day it might be interesting to react to a newer video and compare them, perhaps - but for now, thank you for this, and I hope you get the chance to react to more of Home Free's music in the future.
Have been blessed to be able to go see two of their concerts and as you pointed out the phone recordings don't do justice to being there live and hearing all their amazing talent in person. Adam doesn't get near enough credit at times for all his amazing abilities, I think, because he is so good, he makes people forget that all those sounds are coming from a human. He's an absolute beast!!! Love them All, they are amazing!!
I love to hear drummers react to Adam...He is so awesome. It is cool to see you acknowledge what he is doing as difficult for a drummer to do, let alone just by voice. It is just impressive what he can do...I can't wait to hear him live.
a lot of people are requesting the newer solo, so i thought i'd provide a link for you! ua-cam.com/video/LUSvD2c-y2M/v-deo.html this isn't the newest per se, but i think this one is the latest with the highest quality, and it has a bunch of his other new stuff.
And that was nearly 6yrs ago ... he's gotten better even!!!! And has added a few more tools to his ever-growing ability. Most (many) of the "uploaded" LIVE here are from phones in the audience, and also, they've gotten better too. Uploads like this are awesome and although of a LIVE performance -- That presence of LIVE HF -- It's an experience! An Experience that you feel. Never get tired of it (HF or what Adam does).
As many others have pointed out this is a fairly old video. Adam is constantly working on his beatboxing skills and, based on the videos Home Free has put out during the pandemic, it seems like he’s come up with lots of new sounds. His newer solos are more polished and even more diverse. The first time I saw them live they were all fantastic, but I was in awe of Adam’s beatboxing.
It’s great to hear a real drummer react to this. I get so irritated when a reactor who has no idea of what an actual drum solo would sound like gives a negative reaction to Adam. Actually I’ve only heard one person react negative and I obviously did not trust their knowledge of music to subscribe to their channel. I just cannot imagine the time that has gone into learning this but feel Adam must also have a gift for this “talent”. I love it! My favorite sound from Adam (aside from his actual singing which I also love) is the harmonica. I find it amazing that the sound comes from his vocal cords to make vocal chords. Thanks for the great reaction. I love it when people agree with the things that impress me. It is nice to know I didn’t get it wrong.
Home Free in person is amazing! You feel the bass vibrate your whole body and he is even better now than he was back then with even more low bass at the end.
I wonder how much time he spent in the principal’s office for annoying his teachers and disrupting class with weird noises. Living well is the best revenge!
Adam was a trumpet performance major in college. They are taught circular breathing. That’s how to breathe while still playing. I think his trumpet playing and mouth positions with the tongue added in this makes it the perfect prep for a beatboxer.
As a trumpet player myself I can confirm that playing trumpet does help with basic beatboxing and that we are indeed taught circular or stagger breathing, but it is extremely difficult. I have been practicing for years and I still cannot do it. Having the trumpet pressed against your lips helps because you are squeezing your cheeks muscles in to force the air to go out your mouth while you breathe in through your nose.
Another benefit of playing trumpet is the double and triple tonguing that you learn. I played trumpet of a number of years and after hearing Adam Rupp for the first time, I literally thought, I wonder if he played trumpet? I found out later that he majored in it.
If you'd like to hear his (invisible) harmonica, watch the Home Free video "Workin for a Living". The whole band beatboxes on 9-5 beatboxing breakdown.
Great reaction from someone who knows what he is talking about. Brad Steele recommended I find you, but I was already a subscriber. I already liked your reactions, but reacting to Adam Rupp is like icing on the cake.
So just have to point out although it may be obvious to some, another incredible aspect of his breath control is that he is doing this at the end of their show, so this is after having done it for the last 1-2 hours! Another incredible point is that there are videos of the live shows and he isn’t just standing still while doing this! He is actually dancing and he even has Moonwalking going on a few all continuing to hold down the beat. One of the most impressive thing to me about Adam is that gives the song exactly what it needs and does not overdo or overwhelm the song or detract from it, but enhances it. It is just phenomenal! Now that is true control! Thank you for your reaction!
This video is 6yrs old so he's gotten even better since then. Usually this video is chosen because the sound quality is better than most videos, although it still doesn't do him justice. Like you said, the bass doesn't some through like it does live. You should also look up the solo with his Michael Jackson routine.
Adam is incredible. It's so much fun listening to the whole group as they chip in with sounds and a bit of beat boxing too. If you haven't yet check out Man of Constant Sorrow. Adam Chance is doing a Jews Harp throughout most of it and chiming in with vocals here and there. Adam Rupp does a really cool harmonica as well as other things, and at a couple points when he is doing harmonica someone else (maybe Rob?) picks up the beat. I'll drop the link here in case you haven't seen it and want to check it out. Great reaction man. Stay safe and well. ua-cam.com/video/-ew_bfFvros/v-deo.html

long black train by chris and tim from home free
He's not the 2 time world champ for nothing. Great reaction. :)
Sorry but Adam is not a world champ. He has never competed outside the US. He has won twice in the Mid West sweeptakes. He does have a champion belt, but that was made and given by a fan.
To me he is the best beatboxer in the world tho.
Adam can also sing beautifully.
🔥🔥🔥🔥💜
You don't need to do a reaction, but it is definitely worth checking out one of his solos where he does Michael Jackson. He does the beat, while humming the melody, AND dancing!!! 😮😊
I'll definitely check that out 😊
he has to be related to Michael Winslow lol
you should compare your analysis with how a beatboxer breaks down Adam Rupp and demonstrates his techniques. Here is Xurex's analysis of Home Free's Butt Remix: ua-cam.com/video/bYiTxZ6eHJc/v-deo.html
You think that was good... You have to see/react to him now!
Isn't his breath control amazing?
Check out his beat boxing Michael Jackson....that is good...He won 2 World Championships...
He swallowed a drum set lol
They don't call Adam the human drum kit for nothing.
Any band out there looking for a drummer?
Adam Rupp is cheap, you don't need to provide a drum kit.
🤣
Bite your tongue!!! We love our Adam right where he is in Home Free!!!!
rumor has it that he swallowed the whole drum set when he was young ....
🤣
