When you keyed up the SWR meter was at max meaning you had no signal going out. The swr should be as close to 1.1 as possible. You need to address that before using it more.
Do NOT coil up your antenna lead. That acts as an electrical choke which interferes with the current/signal from traveling to the antenna. Also, you CAN run just enough length of antenna lead to reach the antenna. The 18 foot rule is a old wives tale. I have 40 years in high tech as an engineer and been in the radio biz all that time. I've never used 18 feet to match the wavelength of 11 meters, and I have always had an SWR of 1.2 - 1.5 across the entire band on all my installations. Hopefully you've sorted that out by now. Good Luck!
That power socket you plugged into is not only battery but can be changed to be powered from accessory. (at least mine is switchable) at the fuse block under the hood you move the fuse for it one notch over for accessory.
That jack mount area will fill up with water if you get stuck in a mud hole while wheeling. I know from experience. IP66 rating means it is water resistant against powerful jets of water, but not full submersion over time. Water will work on it and infiltrate if you are stuck in a mud hole for too long. I don't have an issue with the video, but it's something to consider. Never go Jeeping alone, but if you are alone, I'd not want my one communication tool (in an area of no cell phone service) to be compromised. Rant over. Cool radio. I'll be looking to get one!
Looks like a nice compact unit for any vehicle with tight space 👍🏻. I have a President McKinley in my Silverado, and it takes up about 1/2 the well in the full center console.
Hi, I loved your video and you explained things well. Did you ever make a follow up video on how to mount the CB and how to ground the antenna? Thanks.
Good video, ( Note, the box is actually the radio it's self, ) the set up is essentially wire line remote control with all the controls being in the mic, they are a great idea for vehicles with limited space. Recommend a quick swr test and antenna tune up that's what screw on the top of the antenna actually does. Again great video. I like the radio too by the way , great choice.
Great video review of the Cobra 75 All Road. One comment, when you keyed up the radio for the outside test the 75 All Road SWR meter was full scale. That means there's something wrong with your antenna system. The 75 All Road SWR meter is actually a real SWR meter! Not just for show. You might need to check if the antenna mount is grounded to the vehicle chassis. Meaning the coax cable shield should be bonded to the vehicle frame where is connects to the antenna mount. Since the antenna was attached to a door there might be a grounding issue. Typical solution is to add a ground strap where one end is attached mechanically and electrically to the door frame such that there's a good electrical ground connection to the antenna mount (coax shield). Then do the same for the other end of the ground strap on the vehicle chassis. The vehicle chassis is basically providing a ground plane for the antenna but in order to do that effectively there needs to be a good electrical connection.
Just to throw this out there. It's a serious pain but you can install all of this without taking off the back tire. Fantastic time to find out the jeep i bought has a lug lock on the spare and no key. Smh. Also, if you don't have solder tools I wouldn't buy that 12v switch.. only thing I have left to do is take it to someone who can solder it because what I tried to do was strip some extra wire and wrap/pinch it. Didn't work.
Bearcat with scanner and ham on the dash is the best way to go. Getting a new mic is a common thing so this thing can be a headache waiting to happen. Plus cobra is China made now the older Taiwan corbras were good. New cobra 19 lasts about 6 months
This thing is a piece of crap. It does not do the wireless part well or even at all. I installed the black box under the back seat of my 2024 AT4X and once paired to the mic it is supposed to stay paired but it does not and the only way to pair it is to plug the mic into the black box which is under the back seat and then replug it into the dash usb but even then once I turn the truck off and back on it unpairs and most times will not pair again without taking back to the box and plugging it in under the back seat. I put in a support ticket with Cobra and they have done nothing with it for the last three days So they are also as worthless as the 75 All Road. I bought it because it is wireless but if that does not work then I've wasted my money. Do not waste you're money on the pile of crap.

Glad i watched this first i thought it was stand alone all compact without that box. Thank you for the video just saved me 200 bucks

Cool radio. The radio is nice and small. But the antenna's location makes your Signal directional. Also, you should check your SWR.
Yeah I have to ground my rear door

Yup I wasn’t sure I wanted to switch it

So how was the Reception of Unit ?
Don’t forget your ground strap. and make sure you check your SWR with a meter to your antenna to the cobra CB radio. Always tune your antenna!
Hi, I loved your video and you explained things well. Did you ever make a follow up video on how to mount the CB and how to ground the antenna? Thanks.
I actually have the parts but my jeep is at the beach Ill do an update once I bring it back to the shop thank you for watching
@@HammerdownMotorsportsUSA Any good update on the grounding strap?
Gotta adjust your antenna, that SWR meter is way too high, you’re going to have low range and possibly damage your radio

Did you tune the antenna? Thanks for video!
Hi. Have you had any issues in the time you’ve had the radio installed? How is it performing? Good I hope. Thank you 👍
I wanted to see the radio not all these stuff

good to know I do plan on adding the ground, thanks for your comment
Don’t forget to adjust your antenna for SWR
Yeah gotta put my ground strap on
Will it work without plugging it into the Bluetooth box?

Looks pretty cool! Will be handy for sure. :)
Don’t forget to get a SWR meter and tune your antenna, or you can damage your CB
Yup I will be doing that
It affects the signal going to the antenna.
Do a camping / off road video with the rebel and the Rubicon.
As far as submersion it is ip66 rated. As they state at cobra, water proof
should be good to go then
@@HammerdownMotorsportsUSA I'm considering this unit, glad a real person has a video. Looking forward to what you really think after you use it.

You can’t use a shorter cable
Must be an 18 foot or else swr will be a nightmare
Breaker breaker 1-9 bubba
👍
"magic", like its impossible to install a cb without witchcraft.
