- This week I get around to repairing the power down feed on the DoAll drill press. The repair went pretty smooth and I would like to say a huge thanks to Jonny Wesstrom from Sweden for going through the effort to make the needed gear.

Thanks Johnny for helping out Steve. That is really cool!
This shows there are still good people out there. Unfortunately we only hear of the bad. Kudos to Johnny. I've had this happen to myself once, and just recently I passed it on because it still stood fresh in my mind after several years.
Big ups, Jonny. More than just a nice thought.
Thanks Johnny !
Very generous of your work Johnny! Nice to see the drill working again.
Sunday morning here... 7 am... kids sleeping... wife sleeping... time for Steve... most underrated channel there is...😊
So nice of Johnny to manufacture that gear for you, shows how great people in this world. I love that drill press. My bucket list definitely has a power drill press on it. Thanks for sharing Steve and great work getting it working.
what a generous and selfless gesture on the part of your viewer from Sweden!
Steve, the magic of the Old Spice may well be your very existence. Excellent job getting that down feed working again. Thanks, Johnny, for helping Steve out with his pressing matters.
Indded, many of us owe our very existence to the magic of Old Spice after shave, and perhaps a dab of Brylcreem too!
Hello Jonny in Sweden. That was nice of you. Good on you mate.
Hands across the water.
I haven't seen an Old Spice bottle like that in ages. You have no idea how many mornings I watched my Dad open that bottle and splash a bit of that stuff on after shaving. He held a white collar job most of his life so he had to dress for work every day. I can still remember him coming home and giving us a hug smelling like Old Spice. Weird how in your later years (I'm 63) you remember things like that. Yes there are good people in this world. For that guy to make that part and send it at no charge in today's world is nothing short of amazing.
I always wonder where Dad's superpowers came from. Thanks!
Very kool, thanks Johnny! Thanks for sharing Steve. Thanks Elizabeth for all the great support.
Thank you for sharing. A big shout out to Jonny Westrom. Watched and very much enjoyed.👍👀
i like your joy as a child with a new toy
LOVED the Old Spice ritual...!! (reminds me of my uncle who was a machinist)
I am going to get me some of that old spice for sure! Nice job Steve good to watch you tackle
every single problem with logic and experience.
And to complete this satisfying episode, some lovely pics of Elizabeth and a squirrel, and oh yeah
Jonny Wesstrom is a downfeed life saver.🤠
A really nice close-up of drilling the two pins but I had to stop the video to get my safety glasses.
yeah Stev,s was protecting his head haha
You must love that sunshine coming through and the forest view. You really see it in the opening shot of the video.
Excellent job, Steve. Machinist Community at its best, helping each other out, even internationally. Thank you, Johnny.
You and your wife are SUCH gentle, quiet people. When I watch you playing with that squirrel, all I can think is 'how calm that squirrel is!' and it occurs to me he's mirroring you guys. Says volumes about you. Thanks for sharing that little ray of Light.
I have never in my life seen someone capable of bonding with wild squirrels the way Elizabeth is. Truly the squirrel whisperer.
Well, she likes Steve after all... and he's clearly nuttier than squirrel poo.
It's Fanny the back and forth when you speak. You remind me my teacher in the classroom.😂
Thanks for the tip on the adjustable pry bar from KBC. I just added it to my cart
Cheers!
“If I had to choose…I’d take ‘em both.” I love it! So true! Congrats on another successful repair. I know you’ll enjoy the added capability.
Hello from Shanghai! Waiting on your video as I’m in Covid Lockdown.
Johnny, you are the man. A hero we dont deserve but desperately needed. Thanks for being a good human!
YES another thank you to Johnny, it's amazing the assistance in the small workshop world.
Nice job as always.
Great Work and for shure a nice Gift
Good morning, Steve and family.
Steve fixes his toy, but nobody else gets to play... 🤣🤣🤣
Adding Old spice to the shopping list
Freaking fantastic. another class machine saved. I picked up an older Strand/Wilton Drill press which I have yet to put into operation. Should it have issues, I can only hope I have half the good fortune you had with this machine. Kudos to the community for seeing this project to a successful result.
Stay safe and we'll see you next week.
Good work.I liked the end song where she sings “The scream” and your hands to your face.{Edward Munch}.haha👍🇩🇰.
ok, it's official...I have drill press envy!
Great machine, Great video, Thanks
Kudos Johnny! Super gemacht!
Happy Spring Saturday Steve, Elizabeth, Critter, and Grits. Always an instructive, inspiring, and surprise watch. I was expecting more truck instillation but this was welcome content too. Thanks for taking the time and effort to share! God Bless! Old Spice, I'll try it.
Merry good job very interesting to watch you know what you doing so keep up the good work God bless
Gooood mornin' Vietnaaaaaaam! :) Sorry I know it's Kentucky but I just felt like it!
Excellent work (again) Steve, and full marks to Johnny for his work making and supplying the gear. Thanks for the video!
Supioure craftsmanship.
Great feeling to watch people helping people.
Hope that Al gets to see this working and pat's himself on the back as well.
Total Teamwork.
Thank you for going into auch detail tge way you do , adam and alot of other guys aren't quite as thorough at times and it's really refreshing to learn and truely understand what is taking place without an doubt , thanks Steve you are awesome man
Great machine/repair
Lovely machine Steve, good to see it running as it should.
Brilliant on creating two new holes in the clutch!
Those are great drill presses.
That's awesome good to see you got the drill press fixed would love to have either model!
I know nothing about these machines, but it's louder than I thought it would be. Love the video though, thanks for sharing 👍
I still rock the Old Spice original. My dad and grandad did.
A big thanks to Jonny Wesstrom from Sweden! And a big welcome to NATO! It is so sad that Europe needs such defense from aggressive neighbors. I had big hopes for better relations with Russia and they do have very many inventive and capable machinists doing cool things there. It is a shame. Also, I do wonder what Steve thinks of the noises from his drill press? Does someone have a "low miles" one to compare it to? It could be a bad bearing or lack of lube or excessive wear on something in there. At least now he (and we) know exactly how to get it apart. Thanks for another great video Steve and Elizabeth. Love them squirrels, they taste like chicken (just kidding!)
Good day Steve! Nice how your community comes together to help you out.
A very good job as always.
Its great to see that you have the drill press fully operational now.
So cool.
😁✌👍
You always make all your projects look so easy. Great job on the drill press. Miss your truck rebuild, but this video was just as entertaining. Thanks as always, n see you next week.
Really neat to see it working as it should
Great job Steve, been watching your channel for years, a new video always makes my day, hope to see you on Rumble some day
Sweet fix good job
Great video And repair
Super nice gear. Great idea to make it like that. Lots of spare gear. Just a generous thought. Great job on the repair Steve. You’re like someone that will just take on any task. Such a wide range of skills and knowledge. I admire your versatility.
Oregon's, got an eye on you Steve, good morning happy machining.
Sounds like you need a machine cleaner. 🤔😉 Johnny is the man, for making the gear. Our black lab likes catching squirrels, so we can't make friends with them. Hoping all are well.
Cool repair!
As you say, how cool of Johnny to step up and make that gear happen for you. You are well known and loved out there my dear friend. I see spring is well underway down there. It will be a month yet before we see that much new green showing up here in Northern BC. WooHoo on the DoAll fix. Aside from the truck what is next. A large mill must still be awaiting those talented fingers of yours eh. Thanks for the pot bud. A hug for Elizabeth and a nurgle for the dogs is in order eh. Take care.
Omg I love that drill press .... and the table is unusually large , all metal gears , that is made to last my friend
Power feed is so nice on a drill press.....
Great job Steve but why does it smell like an old ships captain in here? Lmao 🤣
It is great to see you working of something besides that old pickup- truck of yours; althought not much of it is old any more! Greaat job on the drill press!
LOL, If I had a choice, I'd take them both! Coffee came out of my nose hahahaha
Nice repair Steve!
Nice Ave hoodie!
good video
Great show steve
Old Spice will do it every Time!
Thanks to Johnny from helping supply a replacement gear from Sweden and thanks to KBC Tools for supporting Steve's channel with tooling!
I guess the old spice worked! My dad used Crown royal, I think, but he sucks at repairs. So Ill drink the old spice to split the difference.
Maybe Windy Hill could cast a couple shifting handles?
Anyone else call you "the Bob Ross" of the shop?
Awesome vidjao Steve your videos never disappoint makes for a great Saturday morning start 😀. Love the people are monsters sweatshirt AvE would be tickled to see you wearing it best wishes to you and Elizabeth and the rest of your family
Nice.
That drill press vice needs a little TLC too!!
Morning Steve!
Good morning 😁👍
Kbc is not that far from my house I love it
Ha you had one of those detent balls make a break for freedom too! I also had one of the springs go gaboing across the shop. But I found it 😬. Mine is an Arboga em825 mill, same overall layout with integral motor, older, much rounder look, and shifter handles are metal. Built like a battleship.
'3-4 lifetimes supply' Why not, good man.
Good
Nice job! And next, replace some bearing or oil some gears?
😁 Look mom, no wheels 😅
The power of Old Spice.......
Old Spice. The mark of a man.
Morning Steve, nice work on the gear blank Johnny. I guess the old spice (not a sponsor) worked. Nice repair.
The Old Spice is magical 😁. They definitely are not a sponsor but they should be.
Steve when engaging the power feed, perhaps you just need to hold pressure against the handle, either inward or outward pressure to allow the gears to sync and engage. Also do those gears sound a little dry or is it just me. You didn't show it so i'm curious if any fresh grease was applied inside that gear box. Just an observation. Seems like a real nice drill press and could tell by that big grin that you are pleased with the repair and the added function of power feed. Nice job sir.
How's the truck coming along? I'm really enjoying the "Truck Re-build series". Thank you for bringing us along .
He mentioned he still has the final clean up to do. Knowing how Steve operates, we can be sure there will be new grease in there!
@@paulcopeland9035 Yeah I guess you're right. I can't imagine him omitting something as simple as that.
I agree on saying hats off to Johnny for his generosity. I do have a question. I know there are a lot of different ways to get jobs done but I come at this from the perspective of a woodworker where it would not occur to me to choose the lathe as a tool to cut a piece to length. When you cut your gear to size, what led you to choose the lathe to do that as opposed to, for example, your DoAll bandsaw? Just curious.
Ace job as always Steve but that drill press vice could do with a bit of your magic haha 👍
Nice repair with an awesome gift from a viewer. When are we going to see the DoAll horizontal bandsaw again??
Repair was very well done!
I'm glad to see your fashionably worn safety glasses are protecting your hair from flying springs, ball detents and drilling chips. Machine shop machines do not have directions on them in Braille. BTW, that gear might be available at Horrible Freight. :-)
Ron.....having a bad day? You seem a tad feisty! Maybe go over to HF and browse for some gears!
Nice to see it back in serious drilling order! Maybe you could do a cosmetic restoration on it? repaint it in the original color, and clean it up a bit? We would love to see it!
Wow Steve, how do you get any work done with all that scenery outside those windows LOL?,rebuilding that wall and adding windows will pay dividends for years.
Good to see you got through this repair without a complete disassembly and cleaning. Getting old, Steve?
He mentioned toward the end of the video that he still had to do the final clean up. Knowing how Steve operates you can bet he will.
Cool fix. Special thanks to your Swedish fan.
The down feed engagement seems kinda janky. I used to operate a big Carlton radial drill. On that drill, you engaged the handles by pulling them away from the head, which seems an intuitive motion for engagement. Whereas on your DoAll, you push the handles in, which seems counter intuitive to me. Maybe it's a Euro thing.
Welp looks like we’re in the same boat Swedish machines love these module two gears I just bought 2 gear cutters to make the remaining spur gears for my Koping lathe the 6 and 7 gear cutters basically cover the entire range I need
Dang....I haven't smelled OG Old Spice in years. I identify it with my dad quite a bit, but my grandfather was the real deal. I swear he took a bath in it every day. He was a welder for the Union Pacific railroad for over 40 years. Never once, no matter how grimy he might have been from a long work day, did I ever remember smelling him any other way. It's been quite a while since I've had them around, and that part of your video was very nice. Thanks a bunch.
