This press has worked like a charm for my projects ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxajoEbapTfqWaadnqb04h6U576yxXp-FE . I didn't even secure it to my table top, mainly due to the fact that I was using a 15 lbs drill vise. It's not flimsy at all as to what others have claimed it to be. Make sure the locking nuts and levers are secured and there won't be any issues with light pressure and patience. I was able to drill through aluminum, plastic, and steel (steel took a while) with no problems at all. Yeah it took a little longer than a regular drill press, but I don't have the space OR the money for one.The instruction manual was worthless, but luckily assembling the press was intuitive. However, the manual would be good for ordering replacement parts if needed. There is a nice breakdown of the parts that are included in the kit. Before ordering, make sure it is compatible with your unit, it is clearly stated what models the press is compatible with. This was an excellent purchase for $40!!
Yet a great video Steve 👍
The Strands/Arboga drill presses are super common here in Scandinavia.
Your model is a S32M and the smaller one is a S68. Great machines..
You should be able to get manual for your machines. It you need help with parts i can try to help though a Danish dealer.
They still make machines in this brand, same as Arboga, Solberga and others. (Almost identical machines)
Some parts are not made as good as they used to be.
If you ever want to repaint it. They were painted in Light blue Hammerrite paint, with 'hammered effect'
Best regards Denmark.
Indeed, according to the manual, the gear reference seems to be 2HS1961
Thanks for watching. I agree they are extremely well made. They are a bit hard to find around here. I like the original colour. My smaller one hasn't been repainted and looks pretty good. I'd much rather have original paint. Thanks for the offer on searching for parts👍. Chances are Ill end up having to making it.
Nowadays the company making Strands are called MSC Machinery Scandinavia, according to the website they are manufactured in Rosenfors in Småland, so you seem to be mistaken in your claim that they are Asian made.
Aww, and here I was looking forward to Steve setting up for gear cutting on that big horizontal mill of his. :)
@@the_hate_inside1085 you are right. They are made in Rosenfors. - like Strands used to be made.
Now they are under Machinery Scandinavia (one roof) Strands, Arboga, Solberga, IMA & their new line Rosenfors. All similar machines.
I've edited my text as it were misleading. 😊👍
(Didn't know they were 'back' and all being made in Rosenfors, but did talk with my tool supplier today about it)
Those models are also made as copies with allot of other labels/names, from Asia.
I've owned one myself, and it were poorly made and far from the good old ~Strands.
Missed you last week. Saturday morning felt weird without a Steve Summers video to watch with my coffee. One of the reasons I keep coming back to watch your videos is because of the variety of content that you put out, it never gets stale. You're not afraid to tackle any job and that, to me, is the sign of a real blessed mechanic. Make the content that makes you happy, and your followers will love you for who you are. You and your family are such real down to earth people and remind me of the prior generations that did whatever they have to, to build their humble abode into something they could be proud of. It's not built on credit cards, but resourcefulness and perseverance. I love it.
Last week was too busy for me to be able to film and edit together anything I would have been satisfied with. I just decided to not post👍.
Thanks for watching
HH Roberts may be able to help- there is a parts breakdown for what appears to be the right model here: www.hhrobertsmachinery.com/Support/Manual-machine-Parts-Lists/Strands/Strands-S32M-parts-manual.pdf If i'm reading it correctly, i think the part number you need is 1903, the description translates as "fiber gear 22 teeth".
I have not broken any of my bondhous ball Allen’s yet and I have cranked on several of them pretty good.
That 2mm wrench was asking for it. They really should put ball ends on them that small. My bondhous set doesn't have ball ends on the really small ones. That is a harborfreight set I have been using for a year or so. I like them because of the leverage 😁👍
You need part number 1903, its a 22tooth gear. The parts breakdown manual is available for download at HH Roberts machinery.
Which model is Steve's drill press?
@@prototype3a s32
Environmentalists- "Paint stripper chemicals are toxic and harmful to the environment, we need to reduce the concentration by 50%"
Consumer- "I need some paint stripper- buy 2 cans because that environmentally friendly stuff is too weak"
I've been torn lately with your content. I love the machine content. And I'm not really that interested in cars. But seeing you work through the truck project has kept me engaged...I want it all. You've ruined my simple one track mind😁
Steve, try HH Roberts Machinery out of Toronto, they stock parts for pretty much anything. I have an Arboga E830 and it has alot of similarities. Good luck with it, they are a great machine.
Cheers
I bought used this type of drill press and I called the dealer that sells new ones and he told me that it would outlive me as long as I never shifted the speeds with the motor running. If you do that you will strip out the phenolic gears. On my particular drill they are no longer made so you would be in the gear making business. So you are warned😉. I love the drill press and it also has auto feed but an earlier design.
I have an older Abene mill and can confirm the Swedes love their extremely intricate engineering. Elegant, slick as weasel snot engineered machines but every time I open a cover it can be a bit overwhelming!
Talk to Gina at the Shirt Gallery, she is in kentucky and does a great job on t shirts and merch.
Modern paint stripper is complete garbage, you were lucky it worked at all as it barely touches some types of paint. The active ingredient in the original stuff was methylene chloride (aka dichloromethane) and has been outlawed for consumer grade paint strippers in many countries due to health risks (probable carcinogen and a known central nervous system depressant). Here in the UK at least it's still possible to source the good stuff via a few places that re-sell industrial paint stripper, though even that is getting difficult.
Rock Miracle in the red and white can was the go to here in the States for decades.
Yes, DCM was completely banned by the environmental protection agency starting 2019 for any product sold at retail.
They also banned strippers containing N-methylpyrrolidone.
With enamel paint on steel parts often the best solution is a strong caustic.
Try Matt From demoranch, they have Bunker branding.
That's teespring for ya they always having issues it's why most ppl have started avoiding using them
hi steve had similar problems ,no parts to be found anywhere ,put your brain into gear and make them ,I did ,so can you . will make a great video .can"t wait to see it all the best from AUSTRALIA .
It would make sense that a teacher would remove to gear so that students wont do stupid stuff with max speed auto feeds etc..
Whenever i remove original parts, i try to keep them with the machine so that they wont get lost.
Try to look if there are any nooks and cranny's where the gear could be hid. Maybe inside the stand ?
in 2019 EPA banned methylene chloride in all paint removers for consumer use. Paint stripper with methylene chloride is available for industrial use but it available in 5 gallon quantities for about $240.00
The missing gear ist not a d.p.-gear. Our system is called "modul". It looks like modul 1.5
I dont think Elizabeth would be too good at catching mice Steve.
She is very good, calls in Steve to do so, or the cat.
Awesome drill press. I'd like to see you making the missing gear - much more interesting than just finding a replacement!
Great video as usual. Very informative, and you never get mad and throw your tools! I really hope someone can find that factory part for you. I always look forward to your next video. Had to wait a bit this time.
Editing has it's value! 😉
New paint stripper is totally useless.
Hi am living in Sweden and I can see if I can find something fore you. But I vill have the type number on the drillpress
Sent you a pdf Strands S32M
Very interesting to see all the gears in the head of the drill press. Really looks high-quality. I wonder if 3-D printing a gear might work, if you can’t find one.
Great Work Steve. Somehow I think a gear solution will emerge. Machine content always educational but that truck just sitting back there was a teaser.
Been really enjoying the square body project.
Nice tp see you, Steve. The weekends just don't feel right without your Saturday morning videos.
Hey Steve I watch a UA-cam channel called Post Apocalyptic Inventor scrap yard finds. He is in Denmark I think, he goes to industrial scrap yards and finds all kinds of electric hydralic and mechanical equipment and replaces and or repairs what is wrong. I have seen him repair things 60 to 70 years old. I think if you can get in touch with him he can help you find the parts you need. I was born and raised in Oklahoma and lived here for 66 years except for 4 years while I was a jet mechanic in the US Navy. I used to tinker with old motorcycles and riding lawnmowers and just about anything automobile including front wheel drive transmisions it was very satisfying. Anyway give him an email or contact him through UA-cam I would just about be willing to bet he has seen your show and would be willing to help you.
I like that channel too, but I think he is in Germany.
Definitely in Germany.
It also looks exactly like a Wilton 24503. But if it is a Strand S32M that gear part looks like part #1903 Fiberkugghjul 22-kugg (might translate to Fiber gear 22-gear which I think is 22 pitch)
I’ve never gotten good shirts from teespring. Cheap material shirts and they shrink like crazy.
You have to read the Washing and Drying Instructions on clothing...not saying you Didn't...but they do tell you how to clean it Safely.... some can't be Dryer dried.... i would look at the Label to be sure your cleaning and drying was done correctly FIRST??? AGAIN..NOT BLAMING YOU!! Just alot don't look at the info and do as they like or always do...
DANG how they grow up TOO DANG FAST. I saw your son in the shot when you were taking off the side cover. MAN.....already had a face full of hair!!!
Better machine tools from that era commonly use dbl set screws. Boy, if you miss them, it can ruin your day.
I recently ran across an ER32 collet chuck w- a JT33 taper shaft for 35.00 on eBay.
I slapped it on my drill press & went from a 0.002" run out to less than 0.0005". Plus I now have 3/4" capacity on the thing.
I love it; best DP update since dropping the speed.
Check out one of those collet chucks, you'll be glad you did.

Hi Steve - you're a braver man than I am. I design & build electronic geophysical instruments, and almost always use a professional card shop to make my blank circuit boards - two or four copper layers, platted-thru holes, silk-screened part IDs & location outlines, i.e. "the works". But I have occasionally made quick prototype {one-off} single-side circuit boards in my basement workshop over a single evening. Drilling small holes is difficult for me because I don't have a good drill press, but I get along fairly well with some cobbled-together drawer slides on/in hardwood rails running vertically to support one of my Dremel-clone high-speed rotary tools/drills. But a # 68 carbide bit is the smallest I've ever used, and they break insanely easily piercing through copper-clad fibreglass 1/16" card stock. To see you use a # 76 bit through mild steel was an eye-opener for me. Many thanks for the demo, and best of luck finding the missing phenolic gear.
I did not read all the comments someone may have already said something about this below. Anyway Kleen & Strip does make a paint stripper that is super powerful. The hardware store cans are not worth buying anymore. My local NAPA sells Aircraft Paint Stripper made by Kleen & Strip. It is bionic. It waters the eyes and burns skin. Like the old stuff from the hardware used to. And does a really good job of getting paint to loosen. Good luck with the drill press gear. Cheers
Broken ball... LOL. I just about wrote a comment warning you about the effing balls breaking off those cheap allens!
Buy some that are metal all the way to the tee. They spin better, and you eliminate the handle flex.

Hey , Steve
I fixed one like that awhile back its the same drill thats sold as Strands S32M in europe
You were missed last week, but good to see you back. At 10:18 you usea a word that reminded me of AvE. That's exactly how he pronounces garbage. Made me chuckle. Glad to see all is good on your end. Thanks as always for sharing.
I like the big art on the back like your doing. Should be higher on the back. I know a guy in the sports uniform printing business. If they run the curing oven too fast, the ink is not cured. Result is it comes off in the wash. Normally Teespring has a pretty good reputation.
hi Steve, great show, you really know how to get and hold your viewers attention.but went to another direction at the end of todays show, you used the expression"TRUST ME"ask any lawyer what that means?
Aircraft paint stripper is strong. It burned my hand through double nitrile gloves.
Hi Steve and Noel, reach out to Matt at Bunker Branding for better quality clothing you would be surprised at what they can do now it's probably worth a conversation.
Some lazer engraved HIGH - LOW badges coming for that doall drill soon then?
There is a channel called Small Town machine shop. He has the exact same unit although it is badged as Solingen. He just recently picked it up from a scrap yard, almost all of his stuff is a basket case. Pretty sure you could talk him out of the part, He seems to mostly just enjoy trying to save them
Well, guess I won't be buying a set of those Horror Freight combo tee handled Allen wrenches...
Steve and Elizabeth about the sweaters and your hoodies go on UA-cam and look up Morgan's off the leash or outdoors with the Morgans because she's doing her own shirts and sweatshirts pressing on the logos how to do it yourself they're doing a pretty good job of it I hope that helps you with your sweatshirts and t-shirts okay this is Bob from Vero Beach Florida God bless have a great day and stay safe and let me know what you think send me a text message or whatever okay bye
For me it's the band saw. Do a lot of CNC prototype parts. I bought a Precision Matthews saw that has a gearbox. It's the same casting as similar ones but the gearbox is such a nice addition. If anyone is in the market I can't recommend PM enough.
If the part is no longer available and discontinued, see if they will supply an original engineering drawing of it... Try asking for a copy.
Another great video!. That drill press is an awesome piece of machinery. Those Swedes definitely build some fine tools.
Well dude let us know if the comp that makes those hoodies makes good on there misstakes.... so we at least know if they are a company that we would want to deal with.... there is a chance it may not be their falt.... could be the company that makes the iorn on pics and words for them... they may not have mixed their products correctly... ldk prob a 100 things in the nut shell that could be the prob... im each one of them would point the finger at the other... like having to deal with a bunch of kids.....
Mscab in sweden mabye have the part you looking for. Or storebo.
Happy Saturday Mornin Steve, Elizabeth, Bobby, and Grits! Great experience even though not complete. "Ya don't always get lucky" Looking forward to the solution, thanks for the time it takes to share! God Bless!
My 1948 Reid Surface Grinder was used once or twice before the Y axis was engaged after the travel stop. It had a poor repair that did not last. With the Y yoke broken manual Y did not work. The Reid at some time was converted from 2 phase to 3 phase and painted often by the City to look good. I bought it from someone that bought it at city action. I fixed the yoke, installed 2 VFD's, stripped, painted, and polished the brass. Its a new old grinder.
My 1960's Beaver 54" BVRP MILL was decommissioned after someone pulled out the back gear rack pinion and hammered it back in. No parts are available. After much searching I found a rack spindle that looked close. I downloaded the STL file for the spindle and had a friend 3D print it. The printed fit with a little work so I ordered the steel one . After a total rebuild with 2 VFD's I have a beautiful 4 dro nt40 mill that was designed to be a climb mill.
"It's never just a song or just a dance. It is always a song AND a dance."
I’ve got the exact drill press in jet badging tore apart as we speak I’m sure I could measure that gear up if nobody else has yet.
If someone removed the gear, is there somewhere in the machine that they might have put it in case they had to put it back again in the future? Long shot but maybe its your lucky day.....
I am thinking that if you identify the gear pitch there should be a standard formula to come up with the shaft center to center distance and the pitch diameter and tooth count for the spur you are needing... There is likely some info in Machinist Handbook to do so.
Trapline and inlines are having the same problem with teespring products,
Maybe Elizabeth could make a video about how to laser engrave. I bought a three in one machine
Steve, "upstairs' is always the feckin problem 🤔
Yes Steve, double set screws, worked with an English tooling lathe and had to repair a shifting finger in its feed gearbox, every thing I took apart had a taper set screw with a normal set screw on top, first time I had run into this, LOVE your vids, God Bless You!!!
I would start the search with a Boston Gear catalog, see if there is a already cut bronze "blank".
I recently got a Wilton model 20606 also made by strands. Is there anyone out here that can help me wire it up to vfd I’ll buy you lunch 🤞😬.
Print isn’t curing. They should be able to run any back down their dryer at the proper temp, and speed to correct the issue
Am I wrong or was there no video last Saturday? Look forward to my Saturday engineering fix! Hope all well with you and the family!
Had two of these in our shop constantly breaking down finally got rid of them .
Paint stripper, try using some water combined with the slurry.
I'm surprised the gear boxes aren't oil bathed. and it sounded pretty loud.
Steve, I would love to see a collaboration if you have to make a gear!. 3d Print and then cast one with other makers here on the UA-cam community!
is that your son at 18:40 (in the background) starting to learn from his father?
HAVE the s32 me, but how to get morse drill out beats me,it is auto eject but how, great drill tight afer all these years
18:22 "That's uhhh...pretty intricate!" In my neck of the woods, that translates to "hog staring at a wristwatch" :)
Pull apart some of your son’s old toys I bet you find one the right size that will fit so you have a part to make a replica from or to cast a brass one from
Nice video! I was screaming at the screen to put a block of wood in to support the quill before it dropped when you pulled the whole pinion out.
Hi, what's the model name of this do-all drill press? I live in Sweden and can have a look if I can translate the do-all model to the Strands model.
That's awesome
Its similar to a strands S32
Thanks!
Cancer , heart attacks and blindness are garbage too.
Only more so.
Hey how about trailer hitch covers engraved! that would be cool
12:46 Teachable moment which I learned the hard way too. Never use the ball end of an allen wrench to tighten or loosen a screw.
Also the manner he used the magnet to retrieve the broken end was slick. Something I never would have thought of. Well done.
Steve, let me know if you know of this drill press that is for sale somewhere else. Thanks
What up putting oil back in it and how much and where to put it in ..please
Steve, can you let us know the exact brand and model of the drill? I'm in Europe, maybe i can help.
Large panel pictures on clothes don't hold up as well generally
You don't respond to emails, so no point in telling you where to find that gear.
Стив к сожелению я плохо понимаю английский но твоя работа мне нравится!
Can the gear be printed on a 3D printer?
If you have the specs. it would make an interesting little project.
You should check out demolition ranch or off the ranch. This guy has a legit business printing on shirts. They even have a embroidery machine for caps and such. He prints for a lot of you tubers as well as for his own channels. Can't think of the name of his business off the top of my head but I do know where he is located in Texas.
It's bunker branding in Texas
@@joe74ta1 thankyou. Was having a brain fart. Or a senior citizen moment while only being 43.
Might want to look at bucket traps to keep micky in check.
Could you get a gear 3D printed?
Thank you for the heads up on the shirts. Hope you get it sorted.
do you have tooth count and dementions of gear missing
Hi, what is the modellnumber for this Strands drill?
Perhaps include "Strands" in the title.
Nope, lathe is most used in my shop and it’s not even close.
Did you plunder a ball point pen to gat your spring?
Sweet! Thanks for sharing!
What fixes the machine that does it all....
That’s an awesome drill press. I heard that snap of your ball end allen. I even went, “oh snap”. Lol. You have an awesome shop Steve. And making that gear that your drill press needs would make a great video. Just saying. Have a great week. ✌️
There you are. I missed seeing you last week. Nice to have you back. The small parts we find in my shop go into a dedicated drawer in one of my top boxes. I started 40+ years ago collecting this and that. It has been pretty much full for 30 years and although I am searching for that wonder piece within the drawer never seems to go up or down as far as the level. That little drawer has saved many a job on a weekend when all the stores are closed. How aggravating to have a product fail like that. A shirt you can't wash is totally unacceptable. Hopefully someone here can get you what you need. Be it an OE gear or the needed measurements to allow you to make that piece. I think you have a good chance of both. You have a lot of good friends out there eh. Take care and I hope to see you next week.
Very interesting, would also like to know what happened there.
Best bet would propably be to find a gear with right module and tooth count and machine it to the needed dimensions and with the needed features.
