This was a really useful tutorial. The horn would intermittently work and only if pressing the lower section of the horn. I used a file to clean up the metal contact points inside the steering wheel. The horn is now working as it should wherever I press. Thank you for the clear instructions on removing the airbag and helping me troubleshooting this issue!

What an absolute legend! I've been struggling for years with this problem on the exact same car. Gonna give this a go at the weekend and see if it helps 😊

If the problem persists....you'll need to change the squib. Thanks for your kind comments btw 👍

my horn has been bloody annoyed for the last 4 years, only works 1 every 20 times or so. Lucky enough have managed to go pass an MOT simply because it will go....eventually. Anyway i tried to follow your instructions - strewth i could not get the screw driver to push the knob up. Well i can push it up, but the air bad and attachment will not move. Spent all day trying, but had to give up. Im assuming that you have to get the screw driver and press up? And not across?
After that, after giving up and putting everything back....i tested it and my horn actually works, perfectly! No idea what i did, apart from twisting and poking the attachment etc. Cheers!

Infinite thanks! 😍 I was prepared to unmount the whole wheel, to change the clock spring because the horn actually worked when turning the wheel full right and full left, but just in case I first tried your trick and it fixed it!
I'm pretty confident for the future as, instead of just scratching the oxidized metal, I sandpapered it thoroughly then applied copper grease on it and on the contact pin (in addition I slightly bended the pin beforehand, to improve contact even more).
Incredible that Toyota made this stupid connection instead of just another cable... 🙄 and moreover used an oxidizable metal! 😵 - I guess we could also solder a little cable on the metal to solve this permanently. 😉

Great video, thank you. My horn sometimes works, if I really push/wrestle with the airbag pad - does that suggest that it's the connection you are dealing with in this video?

The way you're describing it..does sound like it's that connection so try cleaning the contact points and if that doesn't work, you'll need to change the squib.

Hey. Gave this a go and didn’t work for me. Have you released the video to do with the squib? Thanks ;)

Hi, yes I was supposed to, just trying to find where I put the footage 🤦🏾‍♂️.
Another thing I would highly recommend looking at the connection for the horn it's at the front more or less just by the bonnet release latch. It sometimes works loose or just with age breaks, so just need new horn/horn connection.

Im sure this can be done without disconnecting the battery

I hope that's meant as a joke...when fiddling about with the air bag, you'd be very silly to risk serious injury from an exploding air bag for the sake of 1 minute to take off the negative terminal
