I like to listen to your videos while working on my computer. Your attention to detail in explaining the installation process is really helpful! I appreciate how you not only show the steps but also share your thoughts and experiences along the way. It's great to see someone prioritize safety in their van build. Looking forward to your next video!
The main thing is, that you are safe. I was going to mention a hidden place to hide them. But you already said that at the end. Happy that you did. Be safe.
Always good to have extra things for security just for you're piece of mind . As for the other doors , Can you get a hook and latch or something if you do want more security on the other doors without it being on the outside .
I've had this idea where you put some kind of steel U-shaped handle on each front door, and use a ratchet strap to fasten them together. That way the door can't physically be opened on either side even if picked. This could be done pretty easily on the sliding and rear doors also. Would be already setup if your front door handles are a solid handle-style instead of the "pocket" handles you find in some vehicles like sprinter vans.
You buy two rubber snakes. Hide them under a towel in the front. Attach one to one door with thin fishing line, and one to the other door with fishing line. Then as they open the door...
For a quick exit, make sure you place the key in a permanent location where you know where to grab it if you need to exit the van quickly. BTW, a keyed lock like that is against the fire safety building code in homes because you can accidentally lock yourself in during a fire.
great vid again Tory and dont bother with the upside down deadbolts, i think thats extra security since it goes against expectations on how it turns 👍. also you'd create unnecessary future trouble (like rust or loosening its grip) by unscrewing and re-screwing the bolts. also i would prefer that you find a way to add a deadbolt on the inside of the backdoor of the van. you can deadbolt the two doors together instead of against the frame of the van if you want to lessen creating holes into the van framework.
That wont change the direction the key works. Rotating clockwise would still be rotating clockwise. I am not sure what she is talking about unless the locks actually have different ways they rotate, which they usually dont as locking is a clockwise turn for most locks.
Interior locks will definitely give you extra time at night while the thieves struggle to get to the interior locks. My van driver door smaller window was smashed and a thief reached in to stick a tool into the HeoSafe deadbolt key hole to unlock and opened the door to get in. The key hole was destroyed. Thieves had already used that tool to stick into my driver door and back door factory key holes to unlock the doors. They could not get inside due to my extra locks inside until they unlock the HeoSafe deadbolt next to the window. I recently installed the Thunderbolt HIDDEN deadbolt locks with REMOTES since any locks with key holes are easy to destroy with a tool these days.
@@lesliehunter1823 The HeoSafe deadbolts for inside driver door and passenger door seem to need to be installed only at that reachable spot next to the glass window. Bad idea now that a thief was able to reach the keyhole to unlock plus I can no longer lock it with a key.
@@lesliehunter1823 if a smaller thief can crawl through the larger part of a door window, they will be able to unlock all doors and all locks. Best to also block the windows with a strong steel bar so cannot crawl through.
The best thing to have in your van, for self defence is wasp and hornet spray. It is accurate to 30 feet. And jt is NOT a weapon. But if you spray anyone in the face they will stop! Whatever they are doing. Also side and back door can be locked inside with a simple pad lock set. happy vanning.
Wait for my next security install…. it’s this concept but on steroids 🤯 I’m super excited to share a new product I found & am installing I’ve never seen on a van build before!
Great idea! Pretty landscape! I’m in the desert too near Joshua tree working on a build as well it’s gonna take a while tho it’s old and I still have to smog it! Safe Travels!!! I get scared drilling holes too tho! I had to cut a big one in the floor when I converted to manual, and it’s definitely not perfect…
While you're outside the van and parked you can attach a fake antenna with a magnet. Make it yourself, easy. If you need a baton weapon, just grab it off the hood. Many modern antennas are short and covered wtih black material, so not hard to make thicker than older style antennas.
Safety tip with drill bit. If you know the depth you want to drill and don't want to accidentally punch the drill further and maybe hit something sensitive behind, then use some masking tape and wrap a few layers around the drill bit just behind the depth you want the drill bit to enter, and makes it easy to keep from push punching through too far.
Here’s a thought: you can find retractable keychains in dollar stores. Mount one just behind the seatbelt on the driver side and put the key on that. It’s hidden, in a convenient spot, you won’t lose it or drop it.
Have you heard of the owl, protection alarm it record video around the van front and back, if someone trying to get in it will send you alert to you where ever you are. You can call the police and give not only a description of the suspect, I believe you can send a copy of the video, so the police can see them also. If they are walking away from the van but the responding unit will have a short video of the suspect that was committing the crime. I believe it is cheaper that the lock, and if you get into accident you will be able to give the courts copy of the accident video also. Look into if you like.
A clear window tint on the front driver and passenger windows would add more security too. If someone tried breaking the glass it would slow them down enough to start the vehicle and drive away or escape out of another door
Please hide your keys inside somewhere readily accessible for you in case you need to exit in a hurry--such as waking up to a fire in the van. Maybe have more keys made so you can always stash some extras within reach while you are sleeping.
Thats the Heosafe lock. We have them to but also thule lochts on de slide door and the backdoor on the outside. Also we have the Bearlock on the gearbox.
Seems like they have the same hole configuration even if you turn them upside down or turn them around to the correct door now. It should take you about 2 minutes to screw each one off and then 2 minutes screwing them back on each. So, a total of 8 minutes to switch them around from one door to the other. So you'd have them turn the right way for the key.

I'm surprised the hex screws are reachable while it is locked. A random thief probably isn't packing hex keys. Overall you still get a little extra time. Did you get white rubber plugs to cover the screws? If you didn't it might be worth throwing some white silicone in the screw holes to hide them and make it a little harder for that more determined crazy person. I'm sure there are ways to increase security from the inside on the other doors also. I love all the extra stuff you put in the videos...sword/lightsaber type things. Keeps it fun🙂
I beat your locks with my cinder block through the glass. But seriously I got a metal engraving tool for $1.25 @ Dollar Tree & labeled all my keys as I had 4, but had to add 6 more for my parents in case of emergency.
My concern with these is if it requires a key to unlock, if I ever need to exit due to an emergency, I’m probably gonna be fumbling around with the key. I like the idea of a strong metal latch near the bottom of the door where you just flip up or open.
