The last thing you need is someone entering your back doors without you knowing 😅. Great video. I might just get one of those.
looks good, you modify it to by putting one of these on it "Hechen solenoid electromagnet HS-0530B DC12V 5N 10mm stroke push pull type open frame" or some thing similar. at 9.39 your pointing at where you could attach it to, and add a switch on the + wire. that would save climbing over the bed to open it
I'm betting the woman's back door isn't safe from this man.
True story
@@UrbanVanlife LOL, you said “Pain in the rear.”
Ooh err missus…
Got these on my Boxer, even I could fit them. Glad they're now available for other vehicles as I feel my van's safer when they're locked.
That’s a neat idea, well engineered but simple!
We have a version of this on our Citroen relay, simple to install and effective.
FFS......just get on with it!!!!!
Arrrrr you need a hug
Great, simple security option. I wish they made a Ford Transit option for me.😥
Bought one for my boxer after watching this, great kit,
Thanks for your time ❤
I actually just stumbled upon your channel going to watch some other video!
I scrolled down a bit and saw you both...
And I'm SO GLAD that I did!
This was extremely educational for van riders around the 🗺 !
I live in South Shore Massachusetts USA...
I'm sharing your channel with my fam and friends!
🍻: to binge watching your channel from my 🛋 on a lazy Saturday morning!
✌️
Welcome aboard! You live in a beautiful part of the world hopefully one day we will get the chance to visit and see it for ourselves first hand!
DIY version ( 2 small L brackets on both doors that meet in the middle when doors closed then place a nut and bolt to secure. Secure L brackets into doors with rivnuts and small bolt or self tapers. Version shown in video well thought out.
Think for the price of it it’s not worth going down the cheep rout
The advantage of this kit is the door can be securely locked from outside.
Lovely honest video, yes tell both work hard.
id put put on the floor level- the thief will have no issue using a crow bar... its great idea- i belive there is an electronic version where you can hit a button they automatically unlock but quite expensive
Yer I believe there is a electric one
Cheers for the Solidfy info, just fitted one to my Sprinter it was a doddle 15 min job thanks to your informative post.
Great news man . I think you can fit one quicker than watching this video lol
Excellent idea. Thank you.
Looks like a good device. Though, they used something like that on our work vans where I used to work. The thiefs got round it, by cutting the Hinges off the doors and peeling them back.....
Thanks for the info. Just ordered mine for Sprinter.
where is the link please
Great thanks Neil 😊 love this for my crafter😊
You guys love watching your channel funny but very useful information plus we get to see Neil showing us how things go on 👍
Looks a slightly more sophisticated one than I have on our Ducato back door - mine has a little circular pin and clip but same principal. No one wants their back door bursting open do they 😂
Really useful also for a safety point of view I explained to Rachel how to open the door in the event of an emergency (fire or whatever)
Think it’s the same make all be it different design to the one we have - does the same job 🙌
Great solution and vlog as always
All the best, David 👍
I got all excited until I noticed that they are only available in the UK. The version that locks the two rear doors together will damage your van door’s paint if someone closes the doors in the wrong order.
Closing your door in the wrong order would damage the door regardless . And ultimately is user error and only have them self to blame . And there not just avalable in the uk we know people from the USA and Canada who have bought them there a German company buddy
@ There is at least a bit of padding to prevent the damage. Sure, slam them hard enough and you’ll damage them. But with the other style locks, even a slight pressure will do damage. I haven’t closed them in the wrong order once since the first week we got the van 4 years ago, but I had to have my door repainted twice, once from my neighbor, and once, ironically from the body shop doing the damage after they had fixed it once. I’ll keep digging for them, but a Google search is turning up next to nothing aside from your video and Amazon UK which says they won’t ship here.
Thanks for sharing another great job, definitely bad idea to put a lock on it if you had to get outside in a emergency 👍
Not sure where you guys got this version but there’s a new version with a central locking solenoid to activate and deactivate the lock mechanism.
Thank you for the totally clear instructions.
I'm not much of a handyperson so I really appreciate it! :)
Thank you a lot of people are self confessed smart arces and can get a bit wonky about doing videos like this . But there are equally people who don’t know . And we have all been there no one was born a smart arse I just wish more remembered that . Thanks for watching
My type i sprinter has the long rear doors and due to its age started to bow out at the top.
To remedy that (mainly to prevent water ingressing) I installed a second rear door locking latch setup and connected the two latches with a handle on the inside (removing the factory one because it was too low on the door and simply ugly) and a rope through the sidewall running inside a pvc tube to the sliding door. The rope is there to open the rear doors without the need to climb across the rear mounted double bed to get the the doors. The handle is there to be able to open the rear doors (which doubles as emergency doors). The lower latch mechanism could possibly be tampered with using the door handle openings but the top mechanism will stay locked even if you knew how the mechanism worked... A thief would need to be able to bend open the whole door (which is not impossible but very hard and time consuming)
The rest of my doors (being the sliding door and the cab doors) are secured by unconventional but very effective means. Basically deadbolts which can be activated from inside the cab (each door individually) and the deadbolt in the sliding door somewhere (in an undisclosed and very difficult to tamper with) location (virtually impossible to get any sort of tool anywhere near the business end).
If we leave the van we lock the rear doors with a simple sliding deadbolt, as well as the cabin doors from the inside, exit through the slider and lock and secure it knowing any robbers may find themselves dealing with a couple of hard nuts to crack...
Currently I am even contemplating/designing a steel security curtain to separate the cab from the living space made with those older type matras bed supports (you know the wiggly steel wire springy stuff)
If I can get one of those cut to size and shape and secured well enough they should pose a b*tch to get through if at all...
Good idea Neil , I suppose if your cleaver you might rig a solenoid up and have it remote , hmmm just saying
Why has this idea been put in my head
Thanks from a Sprinter owner in San Francisco Bay Area. The Governor passed a recent allowing anyone to enter your rear door in California. Being a Republican, I’m ordering one of these right away!
Wow how do they justify that? Bonkers!
So in California you need to watch your back and CYA?
This is a great idea our first van got it's back doors ripped open and things were stolen.
thank you for sharing this! this will be helpful everyone,
That bolt is a good place to keep the handcuffs.
There only for garage time buddy
In the US if someone wanted to get in they'd be just as likely to go through the front doors, breaking the window if needed. I think an alarm system would be a more effective deterrent.
You can use a regular hex bit if you don't have the right size star
Yer but I can’t show that . There is allways a clan of Karen’s wanting to jump on you for doing things like that . Lol
well well well, you dark horse Neil.... fellow Star wars fan eh? That "I am your father " framed sound print proper made me smile. Thats a great bit of kit to stop thieves when you are in you van. They need to make something for tailgates and slidey doors.I'll have to look on your link... BTW, that "I'll stack all the free power stations up so I can reach" was pure Urban Vanlife comedy gold. Much respect- Kenny
Nice & solid!
Well done guys! 👍
Thanks a lot!
No one can smash them back doors in! Great vid guys 👍 lovin the hair Emma xx
Mentioning smashing back doors and Emma in the same comment 😂😂
@@UrbanVanlife gotta be done 🤣🤣
Thank you. Great idea. I'm going to check if they have any for my 1998 Dodge van. Safe travels.
Not too sure what makes and models they make them for other than the Ducato and Crafter/Sprinter but fingers crossed they make one for your dodge!!!
I would like to buy a beer from this gal in southern Germany!
“Will they keep your back doors safe from entry?” Brilliant hahaha
😂😂
Cheers for this guys so easy to fit even Darren can stop the backdoors giving entry to unwanted guests 😂
We heard Darren’s all for back door entry
@Urban Vanlife I have so many comebacks for that, however they all put me in the frame too so saying nothing 🤣
Actually a novice calls that a star drive when in fact it's called a torques bit (hence why the box the set comes in says torques bit on it)
Actually he is right the generic name for them is star bit. The torx name is trade marked by an individual company. Same way everyone refers to locking adjustable pliers as “vice grips”.
@@peacockealot not really I've got snap on torques, and non snap on torques both of which have torques bit stamped on the boxes
@@jonathansmith2407 I’ve got Mac tools sets that say Torx on the box and Draper sets that say TX-star on the box. The Torx name will have the registered trademark beside it because they are licensing it for use. It’s the same way an “allen key” is actually a hex key as the allen key is again a registered trademark.
Great idea, sad they don't make them for Ford Transit Custom.
to protect front doors if you're in somewhere dodgy, a ratchet strap between the handles will make sure they go nowhere.
Nothing worse than loose back doors🤣
That's what she said.
Where can I buy this lock?
From the links in the description buddy
Can you get these for a Toyota HiAce?
If I made them then yes . But probably better asking the company buddy or check there web site out
Hello there at what mileage did you buy van, are these reliable any solid advice appreciated thanks
We got our van on 120k and these are as good as the thief is persistent . They will stop most casual robbers but I’m nursing the one that wants in will get in
You could even put a door lock actuator on them and have them on your remote.
Went to buy one via your link in the description... and they are all sold out with none available!
I've got a 2018 906 sprinter (very last of the 906 shape before they switched to the new shape)
informative and humorous
Nice . Every bit helps 👍
It dose mate and a lot of people don’t seem to look at it that way . There all so negative
On my travels the best lock I had was my doberman domino he was the size of a small pony lol
Next challenge, hook it up to the central locking, can't bee too difficult, all sorts of actuators available these days.
That’s actually the best idea ever that if I’m honest
@@UrbanVanlife Why thankyou, I have them every now and again 😂
Hi, You have these tiny 12v linear actuators, perhaps use one and hook it up to you central door lock system or even have a simple linear solenoid ? They cost next to nothing and can have a linear movement of 30 -40 mm. Anyways can imagine it give a lot more “ease of mind” having this extra lock.
20 seconds in im subcribing whilst pissing mysel laughing. Quality
We aim to please but often miss
I like the idea, but wondered if you’ve ever accidentally caught your head on either part of the device?
Grt got that saved for when I get a van. Canny wait till you do the sleeping cab video ...grt chat / van work . 👋🏻🏴🏴
we are working on it as we speak , so hopefully i can get it edited for this week
This universal for any year van or only newer vans. ???
Ours is a 2014 crafter so not too sure but know they make them for several different types of vans and also different years
You are such a loving, beautiful couple and I love watching your video. Is there a link for a 2005 Iveco Daily van lock?
Hi thank you for the lovely comment, not too sure if they make one for the Iveco Daily, but the link for the company is in the description of the video might be worth firing them a message to see what vans they make them for, hope this helps.
Hi Neil & Emma thanks for making this video, I bought the same lock a few weeks ago, but haven’t put it on yet as I wasn’t sure if I would do it right, but you have given me the confidence to give it a go 😊 nickie
How do you secure the side door then?
We lock it . 80% of break ins are from the back doors
THEY REMIND ME OF THAT BRITISH SHOW I USE TO WATCH (MRS BUCKET & FAMILY)😂😂😂😂😂😂
Oh so they built their own camper vans did they? Don’t remember that…. But each to their own! Whatever tickles your pickle I suppose Hyacinth.
How??? What a ridiculous thing to compare them too,,, BTW have you tried the lock they are recommending ya know the whole reason for the video?
You remind me that not all the clever sperms are the fastest . But there you go buddy you won the race ya special boy
I love your videos… Good to know your back side is tight now….
Mate you know I have a good solid back end
Just fitted mine 👍
arnt they simple easy and propper goood
Funnier than hinge and bracket!
Hope you get it fixed soon.
Love you films 😆 where were you doing this, Asda car park? 06:00
Nop
Neil and Emma. Yes van lock looks great I've got a caddy highline for work can u get one for that. Think it may be good to stop thief peeling the door up to have one at botton too. Emma's hair looks nice. Good luck with van repair. You have a big task. Looking forward to next video. Are u planning trips to Norfolk here where we are. Take care. Best wishes David and Beverley Norfolk
Love this, such a simple but effective item, will have to search if they have them for our LT35 … ☯️
Nice one there Neil, that could be useful in other places too, apart from van.
i just used sash jammers on my van back doors
Where's this available in the USA, I need it!
They do ship to the states buddy
Hi both. And you too mate hope engine go’s problem free 🤞👍
He sounds just like Bricktop from Snatch sometimes and Tommy at other times. If you know, you know....
Nice video simple hack to be more secure thanks 🙏
I think a thief would beat that if he really wanted to,there's nothing to fix the bottom end off the doors.and would a more powerful magnet unlock it from the outside?
Simple and effective !!
It’s weird you say that cos that how Emma explains me to people
Thats so good. How do you secure the sliding door?
Ingenious bit of kit.. nice one. How much. In pounds pence. . Do the do one for an ldv. Van ?? A good idea. Vorst
Hi both love the vlogs as always.look forward to seeing your van fixed.that lock is brill.wont fit my ford transit tourneo.
Do they do them for transit mk8?
I've got the version they do for the Relay/Boxer/Ducato.
Very simple to fit.
I was going to buy it from the original German manufacturer but found a copy at a third of the price from China.
Hi guys we in liverpool at the minute can you recommend a pub other than the cavern and anywhere nice for food. We are staying at the marina for a couple of nights so any suggestions would be grateful x
Oh man there are tons in liverpool
It really depends on that you want to be honest . Have a look up bold street . Duke street . Or castle street .
@UrbanVanlife nice one we just knocking about the Albert docks tonight but will have a look at Google maps and will check those out tomorrow. At least the sun's shining, cheers guys x
Like you guys and great content..many thanks
Thanks for watching!
Well impressed 👍
Brilliant video pal love ur channel ❤
Hi Neil, I've just fitted mine, exact model as yours, do you find that when in locked position. When you try to open the rear door, the lower catch is released, meaning there's enough space to crowbar the bottom corner of the door open?
There is but surly the noice and faf in about would scare them off . And for the price it’s a great add on for security
In this van you would just kick in the skylight and come in.
Or you can do the okd sparkplug trick or foam and tape the windows and smash the windows in super simple.
One thing people should do is get a safe, bolt it in and put a hob resume for mcdonalds in there.
Have the safe visible only if you were in the van let them spend their time and go to work and run away with that.
Its got no valuables in it and it keeps them fixated on that as more worthy to grab.
You need a better hobby as your comment and the English language as a whole doesn’t seem to be working out for you, also the van doesn’t have a skylight
Any chance of a link to get some of those 'spring washers' you rate?
It’s a trade secret mate from the world of make believe
Nice. But y'all talk funny. Lol. Thanks brother!
Nar it’s your ears that are broken
Hair is looking good Em, x
Why thanks 😊 from Emma
Any idea how to make a ford tourneo single back door safe
Yer that’s simple . Sell it and buy a crafter . Lol In all serious I have no idea Sandra sorry
@ThecatladyVAN nice add for you. 🌟
Have you not seen how van thieves break in. Locks are no good when they cut their way in using a battery operated slitting saw and peel a panel back and in. Good luck with the lock. My neighbour, manager for a property maintenance company has seen it all.
nice hack, now where is my powerful Dewalt DCG405N 18V 😂
Can't see any for the vw transporter, only crofter
Don't they do them for the T5? I can't find one..
Not sure mate I know they do all kinds . May be contact them on Instagram and ask . They are allwsys active on there
@@UrbanVanlife Oh are they, nice one, I'll try there 👍🏼
But can’t get for Renault trafic/vicaro(
Best thing is to check out the web site buddy
Yes Neil, I can confirm our back doors are very secure 😂 so much innuendo in one video 😂
I have no idea what your talking about 😂😂😂
😏😏 yeah yeah
New sub here! Great tips thank you!
What's the U bolt for inbetween the two door hooks (6:45) - a hammock mounting point?
