NOTE: I saw someone screw a block of wood into the middle of where they were going to cut out for their skylight. So he had something to grip to hold it up after cutting it out so it wouldn’t fall through and would be stable, which is MUCH better than my tape method! I wanted to share the great idea :)
You're not going to hear it from me today. Learning from past mistakes, trying new ways to do something you've done before, toughing it out in the heat and the bugs, GREAT JOB TORY !!
Hi Tory it's Tony in the future if you want to put caulking down and everything else just take plastic wrap like Saran wrap and put it over the caulking and it'll stay on there as there was a plastic coating over it but it won't stick onto your window
17:24 she has become the bugmancer, look at what a simple hand gesture does to that (dog sized) bug! I guess vanlife brings many kinds of magic huh. I love this content and really enjoy seeing the whole process involved, it reminds me that I don't need to have like £30K in my bank to do this and generally you are a really cool person!
Such a good job! Thank you for teaching on how to do all these things for my future van build (well I hope I will doing a future van build😎). You are too funny 🌷
Great job. I am not as fearless as you when I do projects and a lot of times, it's an excuse not to even start something. I gotta get somebody like you in my life to give me that motivational kick in the butt to do these kind of projects.
Window sealing tape right on point and excellent choice. Great job on the skylight project. I am very impressed with the thoughtful what ifs through your journey on the van build. It will save you time, headaches and money in the long run. Take care and safe travels to you. God bless. 😊
The look on your face when you put your outstretched arms through the hole for the first time…priceless! The RV tape makes the install look really “clean”. Well done Tory!
Tory you've done excellent work there, very careful, very clean. I agree that when cutting holes, less is more because you can't make them smaller. Also, I didn't know that with jigsaw blades, size does matter! Can't believe you have a Blockbuster card 😆
Get yourself some curtain rod from target or walmart, and some blackout curtain, definitely an easy fix for your windows... I personally use the halfs (idk the size) for the divider between front seat and main cabin, youd be surprise on the POV of peeps outside into your van which is that youre actually higher than normal so they cant really see past the short curtain.
This whole time I was cheering for you- I’m so happy you had this great install after such a crazy few weeks! Rooting for you and can’t wait to see where you go next!
If you have built up enough.. ie(Higher than the water shed angle (%) of your roof with Beatletape or Ramneck as I know it. then you don't nead lap sealent on top of the screws/Hardware. But on the sides where the water would pool against the beatle tape..(The low ridges of your roof) if it's raining it's hightly unlikely you'd have the skylight or window open to get wet, as the skylight overlaps the bolts/screws.That tape ovetop has it sealed really nice !nice add on!!! Cheers Tory, THX. Lots of luck and Luv. Great Vid as always
Progress! Mother should I trust the government? I like it. Ribs on vehicle roofs are nice for strength. But not for sealing holes in the roof. But it looks like you did a good job sealing stuff. Ready for the monsoons.
I'm new to the channel and really enjoy your adventures. If you haven't been, the annual Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend it would make a great episode IMO.
Drones are so cool!! i was thinking of using a marine hatch as a door to the roof and now im going to have to check the back catalog. also its a good reason to shed a few more pounds. looking forward to the redarc install its going to be boss!! aircon, skylight, heated floor. its crazy how you do so much but it only looks half built till the very end of a build. i guess its easy to lose heart at times. but im totally learning so much and im so grateful for your build updates.
Wow your absolutely stunning beautiful. Loving your amazing video's beautiful. Nice job on the skylight installation looks amazing. Keep on shining gorgeous your video's are always amazing. 💯🔥♥️🌹🌹♥️🔥💯👌😮🙃😜🍷🍷🇺🇸
I like the Boat Deck Hatch option. I'm actually looking for one to replace the Roof Vent Escape Hatch in my bus conversion. Finding one within my budget that fits a 24"x24" opening, 26.5--27" overall size including mounting flange, proving a challenge. One thing I would recommend is cutting another piece of wood to go over the inside hatch latch levers, with notches to keep the levers in their closed position (or something else to serve the same purpose). Without which anyone on the roof of your van could easily open the hatch from the outside and come in. A quick fix to a major safety/security issue that using these hatches creates, since they were designed to be easily opened/closed from both on deck and below. Keep it real, enjoy the journey.
I think you're doing great & i love your energy. Would a small roller have helped lay the RV tape into the grooves? Anyway as long asit works it doesn't matter. I look forward to the next part.
I would remove the hatch from the frame, seal the frame, once dry reassemble. If need to cover the hole for rain or bugs or whatever, just put something flat on the top, it wouldn’t touch the sealant. But you are already done with it lol
@Tory Delury, your sunroof looks great.. Well I'm so sorry to hear you're leaving Vegas. I hope where every your next place won't be so hot. But this is our summer time and you made the right choice to leave before it really gets hot. Normally, it's already in the 100s. Next week, we'll be in the low 100 degrees and will pick up from there. Please keep the videos coming as we all enjoy your little van projects. So have you decided what your next place to visit? Well may you have a very safe and fun travel where ever it may take you. Take care and be safe out in this wild world we live in.
Well done Tory your getting good at putting gaping holes on the roof of your van and of course styling it out with a awesome customized skylight. Great job and as always Thanks for Sharing...
Brilliant as always 💚 should you add any more water proof on the inside where you built the frame? Just extra protection? Looking forward to reading your Adventures 💚🤟 ... Poke a small hole in the tape empty the air
Awesome video 👍 it’s amazing how you can make installing a skylight fun 🤩 by the way marking the wood that way is way more accurate then measuring 👍 hearing protection? I know way to many people that are deaf, I had to ask 🤪
Good to touch the surfaces to be bonded with a scratch pad and use the rubbing alcohol again right before applying sealant for a good bond, I guess its fine anyway though.
Love the artwork @5:32!! Honestly, Tory, I've seen more than a few roof-vent and skylight install "how-to's" before, but this was far and away *the best* for both detailed explanation and tips/ tricks. Kudos also for choosing high-quality hardware to bolt it down. Seen so many installs where they don't frame underneath and just screw into the sheetmetal and nothing-ness underneath it! Crazy! Just curious if you originally planned this roof-top layout this way cuz it seems a bit odd to have the MaxxFan so close to the skylight? I had thought it would be ideal to have them farther apart for better air-circulation through-out? I'm sure it will serve you well regardless, just curious. Glad you've got a bug-screen set up for it, probably also want an insulated black-out cover too. Cheers!...from North Vancouver PS -- Run away with me?
O, Butyl tape! I thought you had been saying “Beetle tape” this whole time! 😂 I thought you were just super serious about keeping out water AND all of those annoying bugs - haha! Those drone shots at the end were killer. You were right! Can’t wait to see what you do with that new cinematic expansion pack in the future!
let me introduce you to DEET, spray the whole desert with only a small chance for breathing difficulty, headaches, epidermal reactions, seizures, and at least four deaths (somehow) :D
For me they are going to keep sticking out but they don’t have to. For my van because they are short enough they won’t be in the way when the ceiling is installed so they won’t be seen. In my last install I used 2x2 and make the screws flush but went I for a 1x2 this time. :)
@@ToryDelury Can I ask what thickness is the floor board u put in the van ? . Some people say to just throw a board on no insulation nothing .. wouldn’t that affect the van temp ??
@@ToryDelury .. wow I never would have thought of that ? … SMART girl you know what your doing .. now I know who to come to for van building advice 😃 ..
But if you do something like a skylight, won't that make it harder if you ever want to place a solar panel on the roof? I see 400 watt panels now under 150.00 and they're portable and light enough you can take them off the roof at night,

"Skylight to spy on people at 2:00 a.m.." 🤣🤣. That's great
Your fearless "lets just go with it" attitude toward your build is amazing. No need to critique anything; if it works, then it works.
You're not going to hear it from me today. Learning from past mistakes, trying new ways to do something you've done before, toughing it out in the heat and the bugs, GREAT JOB TORY !!
Thank You!! 🙏🏼🤩
This van is gonna be the very best like no van ever was
I always come here for the goofy nerdiness and a side of Van Life and am never disappointed 🤓
Your drone shot at 16:30 was so subtle but REALLY added a neat dimension! *insert applause here!

Citronella candles will be your friend for keeping bugs away.
Very well done. Now you can see all the stars from your bed or roof top. Top notch cheerleader.
7:09 that was extra funny after writing "irrelevent" 🤭

Congratulations, you installed a sunroof very successfully. Don't stay on the vehicle too long, the angels may envy you.

Use a pin to pop the air bubbles in the Butyl. It will seal once pressed down.
Oooooooo Love this! I’m going to try it & will report back! (I have to wait until it’s not 116 degrees outside but then I’ll do it 😂 )
You Did A Very Very Very Great Job On This Video Tory.

I used the same boat hatch for my van 24x24 it lets in a lot of heat even in the winter.
Thanks for sharing your journey 👍

For your sky light use wax paper and it level it out and look nice when it dries.

So what about a big screen for sky light
Just found you here great content and your lovely..

Are you in Vegas again ?
California ?
That picture was ace I would have you draw all over my van 😂
This is fantastic.
Another great video!❤ I think you’ve made an excellent choice!! Nice work!❤
Better job than I could of done ✅
Def going to be looking for an SUV with a moon roof. Also the pokemon intro lol. Gotta hatch em all
Seriously Pokemon, lo awesome.
Can you see the stars through it?
Well done! 👍
Haha what a fun edit ❤
Good job!!
Well done ❤
How nervous were you cutting into the roof?
Looks like a professional installation to me. Super impressive!
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Hey! I bought the same hatch for my build.
Dip the blade in water in middle of cutting to not let it over heat and snap so easily, same for drillbits
That kick tho! 😯
Nice Work..
Gotta catch em all!
Whatever shortcuts work for you do it
Love your videos.😊
How often do you post new videos? I love your channel I just came across it the other day. You are so pretty and beautiful by the way.
I try to post once a week! Friday or Sunday! :) Thank you so much! That’s so kind ☺️
Is the sealant tape sort of like Eternabond?
I don’t meen to meatle, but nyce JB.
Great skylight! I don't exactly like the idea of you poking your head out in the middle of the night, but I am sure you know what you are doing.
If you want to truly be stealth, maybe add some graphics, like "Homeland Security" City Inspection Services" "Delury Private Security"

Beautiful van 🚐 love your channel on UA-cam video keep watching the best video on UA-cam ❤👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
Bugs love white....
yay
Subbed.
Oh forgot to ask ?? … any reason why u offset the hatch instead of centering it ..
So when I lay in bed at night I can see the stars but just looking up ☺️
