    You should definitely test if flush mounting that tweeter causes a noticeable improvement in frequency response.

    I really wish I had the patience and knowledge to DIY speakers. Q: see mostly plywood being used for cabinets. I'd though MDF was better due to consistency of density.

    Very nice woofer indeed. Are you by any chance replace this esoteric 7” woofer into your tower speaker that is in your living room? That would be my dream speaker and if you would please share the crossover design. Cheers.

      They look like Dynaudio, because they are Dynaudio design. Copyright must have expired, so Dayton sends them to Taiwan & puts their stamp on it.

    The only bummer is that the woofers have a very low SPL output. The tweeter and it's bigger brother 1.25" are amazing!

    Looking for a tweeter with this sensitivity and low fs! do you think it will be able to be crossed down at 1250 hz with second order filter (10-12 db down at 1khz) @ 50wpc?

    • @Toid
      @Toid  2 роки тому

      I cross this around 1250 a few times, but I always use a third order to cut down on distortion and give it more power handling. Could it do a second order? I'm sure it would. But I believe anytime you're crossing over a tweeter that low, a third order is typically best practice

    I’ve been designing an acrylic horn-type enclosure in Fusion 360 to fabricate on a CNC machine. Here’s the kicker, I know how to design and machine, but have never built a speaker or cross-over. Ha! I’ve been using WinISD to get the physics right, but even that’s been an education. In any case, if you’d like to see what I have done or have interest in helping me get it right, drop me a line. Cheers.

    the esoteric series woofers are more like a thing for certain kinds of audiophile. they don't excel in performance, kinda 'meh' actually. the only real notable thing about them is outstandingly high vc inductance (which means they are sluggish) i guess they're designed this way to make them sound round, smoothed out or something like that, some audiophiles really love that kind of sound.

    • @Toid

      I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll hold off on my performance feelings until the next video. But you make some great points.

    DUDE.. for you to give all the credit in engineering design to Dayton, when these are a total rip off of Dynaudio?!?? The copyright must have expired.
    Yes -- great speakers, amazing design, but credit where credit is due: thank Danish engineers.

    • @Toid
      @Toid  5 років тому

      I honestly haven't used the dynaudio driver that you're referring to. There are some people though that claim this. But I have no first-hand experience of it. Do you know which driver it is?

    • @GeoffSchneider410
      @GeoffSchneider410 5 років тому

      Chris, I think you are confused, these are not ripoffs Dynaudio drivers. The basic design may resemble the Dynaudio/Morel style, but as we all know, looks mean very little in speaker design. Not to mention that there are other drivers on the market that are designed to look more similar to Dynaudio and Morel than the Dayton Audio drivers.

    • @akacree
      @akacree 4 роки тому

      @@Toid I'm guessing this is an age thing, since I've seen the progression over the years. Dynaudio pioneered this design long before all others. The patent has long-since expired, but licence was purchased from Dynaudio for some of Morel's designs back in the day, and many rip-offs came after the expiration (Dynavox, HiVi, & now Dayton). My point being: if you're going to focus on engineering/design in your videos, you should do your due diligence & give credit where credit is due. The brilliant engineers should be given credit, not the replication company.

    • @akacree
      @akacree 4 роки тому +1

      @@GeoffSchneider410 I'm confused? You're uneducated (on this matter). Morel licensed Dynaudio's design while the patent was active. All others replicated Dynaudio's design after patent expiration.
