    Too little friction=no warmth.
    Too much friction=Fire.
    There’s gotta be balance.
    Relationships grow stronger through conflict resolution like trees grow to become stronger through weathering storms.

    Lasting relationships in my life are based on: optimism, moral values, reciprocal honest and confrontational communication, confidence, willingness to be wrong, and some degree of success standards.
    If you’re a generally decent person directing their conduct towards good, who isn’t afraid to say what they think whether it hurts my feelings or not-while at the same time being able to have their opinions challenged without taking it personally, that’s what I think a successful relationship is built on. Whether it’s platonic or not. And some degree of ambition. I don’t care how much money you make. I’d you’re broke but trying to better yourself, I rank you higher than the millionaire consultant who is miserable to be around and thinks his life is horrible.

      When I first met the woman who would eventually become my best friend, we did not like one another. It took us going through some conflict to realize how much we appreciated and respected each other. That was 20 years ago. She is still my ride or die.

    No long term relationships don’t always form in these ways I’m sorry but I have no long terms yet everyone always tells me how reliable, sweet, caring, dependable etc I am but nobody stays Pat. Not a single one I’ve been alone the entire 20 years I’m not angry I’m not upset and I haven’t given up on trying my best to make those relationships. My family is standoffish always have been and any friends I make always use me as a last resort and a backup I don’t care I just don’t associate anymore unless I choose too. Because nobody’s picking me even when I’ve been by their side through thick and thin and even when I still am with them after it all. And that’s okay.

      You're watering the wrong relationships. I regularly evaluate who puts in the effort and who doesn't. If there's no effort from their side, I am out. If they're willing to reciprocate, I am in.
      Its all about the boundaries you set and respect you have for yourself.

      Clearly something isn't working here.
      You say you aren't mad, you are, of course you are. But you are doing something wrong. You might be either too tolerant, or not tolerant enough. I can't tell you, because I dont know you, of course.

    In Indian culture, we don't worry about worry particularly Marriage relationship. In our culture it is built-in to last life time. Once we married (mostly by arranged marriage or parents participated) we don't have to worry much about breaking! Our marriage are very strong it won't break for any silly reason/s. Particularly when couple have children, that cement strong marriage and responsibility for the couple! Western world does not believe reincarnation and based on materials - we believe marriage are fixed in heaven and continue for 7 life! So Indian DNA is inculcated this way and this thinking. But because of western influence and their materialism spoil Indians now! It does not matter how poor her husband or physically handicaps, they never leave their husbands and try taking part in his difficulties and feel proud for doing that.

  • @BobWidlefish
    @BobWidlefish Рік тому

    This is genuinely good advice. I share his sentiment and analysis fully. It’s true at work, it’s true in marriage, it’s true among friends - it applies broadly.
    I encourage you to think inside this paradigm and go into life intentionally seeking to overcome friction, as a happy warrior, in the relationships you value. The people who you value and value you want to reduce friction too, whether they know it consciously or not. By entering into difficult conversions with this type of positive frame of mind, that friction is something to be overcome and strengthens, you will be a better listener and choose your words more thoughtfully, and give yourself greater peace and grace in the process. I’m an old man and I approve of this message.
