SeanvL I enjoyed it very much, the sounds were scary, the ambiance was creepy when it needed to be, the actors were convincing, the suspense kept me on my toes, and the writing was pretty accurate to how people talk and act. Though I thought the ending was a bit more to be desired. I find the whole “whole thing isn’t real turns out to be real” fake out is unfortunately overused. I also found that the detective (saying he came from an Irish family) didn’t seem to have an Irish accent but that might just be me. If anything it was great, an alternate ending I would’ve chosen is to keep going with the all was a delusion, explaining that it was actually her who killed her room mate/ bf/brother, and blames the banshee, ending with her killing the detective because he’s been trying to get her to confess about the murder and played along with her ruse to see if she would crack. But that’s just my opinion and you probably won’t even care about reading this so, if it means anything I enjoyed it and I hope you strive to make bigger and better films!
The real Irish Legend is Bean Sidhe. They were women (in legends) that would wail when near someone who was about to die. Different lore has obviously different interpretations of them but they don't kill people. They are more of a warning then anything else. In some Lore they even "save" people with the help of their male counterpart. I put save in quotations because although they would save one person by working as a team to guide the soul back to its vessel, the reaper would still have to take someone so if the Bean Sidhe decided to spare someone then another person near by would have to take their place. Bean Sidhe do not typically do this though because they are not immortal so if they chose to save someone they could be the one to take that person's place. The Bean Sidhe's wail is supposed to sound like a blood curdling scream to mortals but to other Bean Sidhe's and to the souls they are wailing for it sounds like the most beautiful song. That is why they wail. Their song is supposed to help relax the soul and give it peace as it moves on. Bean Sidhes are (depending on the lore) either fairies or spirits but they aren't witches and in most lore they are actually beautiful women. Both my mother and Father's family's were Irish and I grew up hearing these kinds of stories a lot but always found the Bean Sidhe a fascinating tale and did more research on it when I was in high school. So there you go... long pointless post. :)
Yes, I heard it was when someone was dying the "banshee" would howl outside the house. I always just assumed it was the sound of a cruel storm wind as such winds often make awful howling noises that sound like a soul in torment. It is effective because all too often the storm brings grief of one kind or another and often enough death as well. Even now I don't like to hear a storm wind especially on a dark night.

I did not feel bored for a single second, and the idea of making a short horror film about a frightening and widespread myth that some people believe is a good idea, and the acting of the two main characters and Banshee is very appropriate. This is one of the best short horror films I have ever seen in my life 🍮
As usual, I’m late to the party- but just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed this, and am really happy to hear that you’re making more films. Thanks for sharing this with all of us!
I love the actors accents....and the detective had the perfect detective voice XD. Her husband had blood on him so not sure how that's a heart attack LOL. But I loved this regardless.
Plot twist...the Banshee *is* all in her mind, the tea was laced with a hallucinogenic and the "Inspector" and possibly her friend as well, were actually acting on behalf of her family to get her out of a toxic relationship and get her on the road to rehab for her alcoholism.
Now, this type of banshee is an evil fairy whose moaning cries bring nothing but bad luck. - Blarney Kilakilarney, The Leprechauns' Christmas Gold (1981)
Anyone familiar with the story of the Banshee in Ireland will love this one (and if you're not familiar with it, read up on it! It's creepy!). The acting is strong for the most part. Storyline well done.
Great piece on the Banshee, only criticism i have whatsoever is making the banshee out to be just a single woman, and "People have told stories of the Banshee since the 1600's..." when the legend is much, much older than that. But I totally get its just for narrative purposes, it was a great film and the costume and makeup for the Banshee was fantastic
+Imperator Augustus Thank you, glad you liked it. You're right, we decided to make the Banshee a single entity for narrative purposes. Especially since it's a short film. I might've done it differently if it was a feature where you have more time to establish the Banshee, or multiple ones. And you're right that the story of the Banshee is older than the 1600's, meaning that the inspector was wrong. Which he learns the hard way..
I though it was interesting how the detective said at the end when talking to Sarah that the Banshee was a warning from the body. She saw it as she was letting her drinking take over and as she started to heal, it left. Then it shows up just after the detective lights a cigarette at the end.
I know this was posted 9 years ago but I still have to comment. This is one of the better horror shorts I've seen. I'm a huge horror fan and I thought this was fantastic!!

I have no idea how you'd be able to burn a silver comb (and it would take a much hotter flame than you'd get with a lighter to melt it) and the banshee legend is MUCH older than the 1600's, but this is still a good movie, and that big beardy police inspector was right..such things may indeed be projections from one's own unconscious mind warning of impending doom rather than a malevolent spirit. To a certain extent, believing in such things gives them a genuine life of their own, which explains many strange events including Elvis sightings!
+leslie delp Might have been an animal called a fisher cat. I heard one without knowing what it was once and it scared the crap out of me, sounded just like I'd imagined a banshee would sound.

It's astounding how nearly every one of the 'short horror films' are 'award winning'...some certainly deserve recognition, but how is it nearly every one is an award winner?
The legend of the Banshee is based off of another Irish legend: the Bean Sidhe. They're not witches but instead spirits of beautiful women who would wail when close to someone that was about to die, they would not actually kill the person. But overall, you picked up on one of the most beautiful legends in the world and turned it into a great movie. Congratulations.
Complete enjoyment !!! Well written, filmed, edited, acted, etc. Having been in Radio, Television, and low budget Theatre, I can say this film is one of my favorite top 3 for Horror shorts. I normally HATE jump scares, but in this instance I thought them well placed. Keep up the good work, and win many awards. I TOO, look forward to a full length Horror film from you in the future, hopefully !!! Cheers !!!!
I liked that THIS Banshee started off as a wicked witch. It implies that the witch WANTED the powers of the Banshee but it backfired and resulted in a perversion of the original lore! No one is saying that so I thought I'd add that. Very well done. If this had been longer, we may have seen how this Banshee was not a Banshee in the traditional sense and was actually forged from pride and evil. That's why her scream is not a warning but an actual attack. The BACKSTORY of THIS Banshee is crucial to how this particular story plays out
This scared me a lot -- this is really cheesy, but when I was a little girl I saw Darby O'Gill and the Little People, and the Banshee scared me absolutely to death. I guess that's stuck in my brain now because when I watched this short film, I felt like that all over again! Good job on it, and the actress was really good, too!
Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!!! Would watch again! I love everything about it! The Camera shots, the special effects, the makeup! Keep it up! This is the best horror short to this day in my opinion! Great work!
Where have I been for so long?? Just stumbled across these short films and now I can't get enough. Lol. This one was great! Love legends and especially when we can watch them.
Very good work, especially for a filmschool project with no budget. I enjoy horror shorts, but let's face it, most are pretty poor. This one stands out among the better ones. The lead actress was very, very good... natural and convincing. Technical credit must be given to the banshee "scream", too. Long have I known about the banshee legend, and any good storytelling will depend upon a truly terrifying scream, one which is at once both human-like and ethereal. That was achieved effectively here. (Although the sounds are quite different, I am reminded of how effective the screams of the Black Riders were in Jackson's Lord of the Ring films.) No doubt you learned a great deal from making this film. For a filmmaker, making films is a journey, not a destination. Be proud of your work here as a successful step in that journey.
Very entertaining! With a little less exposition this could be an award winner for sure. No one does the old legends anymore. It was great to see this one!
Really great low budget short horror film. It had good pace and suspense. It goes to show what you can achieve without much money. Brilliant work by the production crew , cast and director.
I dont get it. The inspector said the banshee wasnt real and it was just a sign that she is sick or as he said "not well.", but in the end the banshee was there. Does that mean hes not well too?
Love this. Though I will always hear the Mass Effect Banshees thanks to that first scream in the field being the same sound. 😬 Great design and execution all around!
I'm a little confused about the story's location. The husband and wife both have a slight, lilting accent, and the scenery, and small town cottages, speaks of Ireland. However, the Inspector and the wife's bff, have an American accent. 🤔 Other than that, I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED this short!!! Bravo!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@DVirg0🤍 No kidding, actually the wife and her friend have extremely pronounced accents, not at all like American accents. I find it impossible for someone to make that mistake if they actually watched the movie.
I don't mind the lack of ambiguity at the end at all, but I feel the setup leaves a lot to be desired. Ideally, by the end of the story we'd find out why the husband was cursed by the banshee. Personally I'm a fan of having some sort of grave sin or flaw in a character be the cause of the haunting. Good examples of this would be the Thai horror film Shutter, Ringu/The Ring and Ju-On/The Grudge. Without this, the conclusion of a horror story feels lacking: the monster is just a big meanie that likes to kill people.
🌹💙 Banshees are real-when I was about 13 years old, I heard one scream outside my bedroom window right after I had gone to bed. I’ll never forget that blood-curdling scream! It was approximately the same time I had an uncle die suddenly while he and my aunt were on a return trip from attending her father’s funeral in another part of the country! Truth is indeed stranger than fiction! Bright Blessings! 🌞🙏
We get bloodcurdling female screams in the middle of the night in this southern state. But it is a large predatory cat (cougar). Haven't encountered one but know someone who has. It is terrifying.
Who else heard it? Does it only happen for special people or does everyone who dies get a banshee? Is it only for special people close to the deceased too hear or can everyone?
Loved the film. Gripping narrative, great lead actress, convincing Banshee and excellent make-up. When he lit that cigarette I knew...Also makes me think of my Irish ancestry and how the legends began...
My Mother's family is Scotch-Irish. All of them say such tales & legends are mostly true, & even after they migrated to America some wild things happened. They talked about witch women, demon men, even devil children. I will always believe the story from my Great Grandfather who said a witch women who was very alluring got him drunk, hexed him, rode him like a horse for a couple of miles until they got to a big woodpile out from his house. He said she stripped him naked, used him like a man, & told him she wanted to give birth to another daughter or a son to take her place someday so they could bring down all good people & rob them. He said she took what money he had & his pocket watch. His brother found him the next morning in the woodpile...his hands & knees were butchered up real bad where the witch woman rode him like a horse...& all my Great Grandfathers clothes were all ripped up & thrown around in different places. We all knew this was truth & always will.
@@curtischildress9580 Wow that's scary for real! Some things cannot be explained. And some people never believe what cannot b e explained. There are some very strange and dark things that exist but cannot be proven. It doesn't make them less real
@@magnetdesignandadver You're exactly right. Old tales & legends are born from truth or else there would be no old tales & legends. Another family story is about a demon man marrying a female ancestor. He had a birthmark shaped like an X over his heart. His new wife first thought it was a scar he got from logging trees. It was hard to see she claimed because his chest hair covered it. She also said he could conjure the devil to give him strength to work & fall more trees than other men. He got paid well. He gambled in cards cheating other men out of their work pay & told his wife how the devil made him cunning & smart to cheat & win. Their 2nd child was a son born with a birthmark like an upsidedown cross over his heart...this was drawn in a portraite bearing the son's resemblance of his father. This son was a cousin of my Great Grandfather. His family still lives in Scotland. In 1962 family here in the USA received a photo of this fellow's son shown shirtless & just as hairy as we all are but it can be seen he has a marking on his skin over his heart...some said it was a tattoo from working merchant ships, most of us truly believe the demon lives on in the sons in that family line...no other men in my family have it.
@@curtischildress9580 That's a rather chilling tale. I'm glad that I can't share similar family stories but I do believe that there are various manifestations of ancestral baggage and even 'curses' - the 'sins of the fathers visited upon the sons' as mentioned in the Bible. I have personally experienced the effects of such things in my life for many years
@@curtischildress9580 That is so disturbing. Some things can only be felt, never believed by those who weren't there. The power of thoughts and intentions cannot be denied. Wether for love or hate
I wonder if this came from hearing a female fox? They scream their lungs out in the mating season and it sounds 100% terrifying in the still of the night. Folklore often fills in gaps.
You're right, for horror purposes I altered the legend a bit by combining a few different versions of it into one. The original story depicts the Banshee more as an omen of death, rather than the actual cause of it. Glad you enjoyed it still!

Is the Banshee scream taken from the Banshees in Mass Effect 3?
This scared me a lot -- this is really cheesy, but when I was a little girl I saw Darby O'Gill and the Little People, and the Banshee scared me absolutely to death. I guess that's stuck in my brain now because when I watched this short film, I felt like that all over again! Good job on it, and the actress was really good, too!
Oh god, Darby O' Gill was terrifying. I watched it when I was writing the script for this short.
When i heard the first sound of the Banshee (from Mass Effect 3) I said "if its the Banshee of ME3, you are in big big trouble lady" xD
Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!!! Would watch again! I love everything about it! The Camera shots, the special effects, the makeup! Keep it up! This is the best horror short to this day in my opinion! Great work!
+Halloween haunt guy Thank you very much! I am humbled.
Halloween Haunt Guy yes u r right i also really like horror movies
SeanvL Great job on this!! I can’t believe you made this in film school! The acting is incredible and the story is awesome, very creepy, well done!
Banshees don’t kill people ! They just warm by screaming
do you know how deep the story goes?
These shorts are far better than full length films. None of the meaningless scenes and bad character building you get there.
There's a jump scare at 17:18 for anyone who gets freaked out by that kind of thing
thanks man
Limerance Penelope thx
Thank you so much
Isn’t that kind of the point of those things?! Hahaha you are a kind soul
Limerance Penelope thank you
They're always after me lucky charms.
7 years later and this is still the best horror short story I've ever seen!
Shit got real with that first scream lol
Did anyone else scream at her to leave the damned comb alone?
StarwasterPrime Me. xD
Me
I did 😂😂😂😂❤❤❤
LOL of course!
I did 😁✌️✌️

"I wanna believe you.. sigh"
"You know about the banshee?"
"Yes"
😑
Where have I been for so long?? Just stumbled across these short films and now I can't get enough. Lol. This one was great! Love legends and especially when we can watch them.
Me too!
Lol. Well I just stumbled across this now!!😅
If you're late imagine how late I am
I love this film so much the audio and effects are just amazing.
Thanks man! Happy to hear that!
SeanvL No problem, this film is truly amazing! What camera did you use?
Hey hey...that's the same damn scream from the Reaper-Turned Asari from Mass Effect 3...gave me the willies then too😬
Very good work, especially for a filmschool project with no budget.
Kind of sounds like my ex, but unfortunately I’m still alive.
Ahhaaaaa, me too
☝
Very entertaining! With a little less exposition this could be an award winner for sure. No one does the old legends anymore. It was great to see this one!
i was watching this and my light started flickering and i shit myself
Really great low budget short horror film. It had good pace and suspense. It goes to show what you can achieve without much money. Brilliant work by the production crew , cast and director.
Appreciate that, thank you!
I dont get it. The inspector said the banshee wasnt real and it was just a sign that she is sick or as he said "not well.", but in the end the banshee was there. Does that mean hes not well too?
Or maybe he was wrong and the Banshee is real..
because he was smoking and smoking isn’t good for your body so she was warning him, he was right
The way the ghost woman on the field just vanished into thin air tells me that she must know some.... *** wait for it *** .... BANSHEE JUMPING!!!
Bravo!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I suspect. 😊
@DVirg0🤍 No kidding, actually the wife and her friend have extremely pronounced accents, not at all like American accents. I find it impossible for someone to make that mistake if they actually watched the movie.
Absolutely amazing job. This was fantastic!! I wish it could have been a full movie in the theater 😂👌👻
+The Swamp Bottoms Haunted House Thanks a lot, sir!
+Sean van Leijenhorst no, thank you!! Great work
there's actually a full movie called the banshee or banshee I can't remember I've watched it on Netflix it was pretty damn scary
Without this, the conclusion of a horror story feels lacking: the monster is just a big meanie that likes to kill people.
old irish tales like thissis scare the crap out of me great film
when the title said " psychological horror i expected it to be one of those random things like the ring video
No they're not, most likely some animal or owl making a call noise or something like that becuase some animals really do have weird sounds.
Who else heard it? Does it only happen for special people or does everyone who dies get a banshee? Is it only for special people close to the deceased too hear or can everyone?
Guys I paused the video and still heard the screams. What's wrong with my Phone?
You still with us?
I'm too scared to look behind me....
**Grabs large knife.**
A'ight, ehm good, now.
Blonde bird could use a snack... I got hungry just by looking at her :)
I wonder if this came from hearing a female fox? They scream their lungs out in the mating season and it sounds 100% terrifying in the still of the night. Folklore often fills in gaps.
Im from Ireland and the legend i heard growing up is a little different to this. Still loved the movie tho 👌👏
You're right, for horror purposes I altered the legend a bit by combining a few different versions of it into one. The original story depicts the Banshee more as an omen of death, rather than the actual cause of it. Glad you enjoyed it still!
Tracey Mcclatchey what's the legend you heard.
what's the genuine story,Tracey?
Another great film, keep them coming. Very well done and great acting indeed.
I actually use Banshee as my gamertag, lol. Was happy to run across this film. Very nicely done. She sounded just as I had imagined. :)
If i see a ghost in a house, i would never stay in that house again. 😂😂
Great movie....excellent story.....super effects....wonderful videography......awesome acting......really enjoyed....if dis is was in full movie i bet it would be hit in box office n in ppl's heart.....great job, well done, hats off 2 u sir......i insist u 2 make more great, creepy, scary movies lyk dis.....
+shariqua jabin Glad you liked it. Thank you!
+Sean van Leijenhorst I LOVED IT TOO!!!😊 It's a great little short horror film!!! And I'm part Irish!!!COOOL!!!!
Why did you put so many of these ... In your sentence?
Fox Nebula cmon i really luv tht movie.....
I dislike the end, but it's only opinion stuff, the movie was very good.
Me: *hears creepy fn noise*
"Helllll noooo ive seen enough movies"
* runs tf out the door and never comes back *
The Banshee is beautiful.
Nicely done! If this film was low budget I am extremely impressed! Looking forward to more!
Damn... that screaming sound scares the hell out of me...
me
my granny screams is scarier then that
Now, this type of banshee is an evil fairy whose moaning cries bring nothing but bad luck. - Blarney Kilakilarney, The Leprechauns' Christmas Gold (1981)
Could of done without the”Inspector “ character, the Banshee was cool, storyline good, just that “Inspector” really dumbed the movie down....A LOT
Could HAVE done*** also I agree lol
Got some Barry and Jill, Jill sandwich vibes at the end 😂
Very well done! Entertaining and eerie! Thank you!
Thanks man!
Heard her scream: Yea! go follow..
Found her silver comb: pic it up..
Yes, u know not to do it: still do it.. Lol!
Is Sarah French?
I was just curious and I'm not that great with accents
Yep, she is. :)
SeanvL thought so. Thanks!! Great movie by the way :)
Not too short and not too long, great acting and an awesome story! Overall, you have done a good job!
