Steve Renyard and Keith Williams discuss how to correctly use a marker float, and then test the accuracy of Steve's technique by putting him up against a bait boat with sonar.
@GT5ProBob All you need is a pear lead of 3oz and a couple of beads after you have put the lead on the line so it cushions the lead hitting the marker float and use a large eyed swivel on the lead so that and weed or debris dos'nt stop the float from rising. and if use braid on your reel instead of mono it makes it easier to feel the bottom when you pull the lead across the bottom of the lake as braid has no stretch in it ok mate!
that experiment is in no way conclusive, maybe after 10 chucks a picture would start to emerge. Possibly Steve's lead was at an angle to the float, thus falsely increasing the depth.

because the float is tied to the end of the line and the lead is free running so when you slacken off the line the marker float rises to the surface.
@MegaPaul1958 the full kit shown in this video with echo sounder costs £1343 from Angling Technics.
Carp fishing to the extreme!!
How much does the bait boat and depth finder kit cost.
3 marker floats, echo sounder! I use a lead, feel the drop!! hv a good cast around, place a bait on the spot, n fish!
Gave up using a marker float so often the float doesnt surface
If he was giving an honest and random account of where he was casting he wouldn’t have been clipped up
Pre done
