An alternative depth measuring setup not requiring bobber or extremely heavy sinker I drive a staple in a 1" x 1" piece from a paint stirrer then remove the staple & slightly enlarge the holes w/a sewing needle just thick enough to allow your line to pass thru freely. I feed my line thru one of the punctures & tie on a suitable sinker. When cast, after the weight hits bottom, the wood swells around your line so you can reel in and measure the distance between sinker and piece of wood. That distance represents the water depth (MAYBE)! Works in the kitchen sink :-)
Used one of the marker floats for the first time day before yesterday and have to say they certainly do fly.
