Just picked up one these today for $60 at my local Music Go Round. Love it. I needed a simple controller for my Behringer Solina and this gets the job done just fine.
I bought one just now because my Roalnd PC-MK2 gave up the ghost after decades of use, I probably could have repaired it but too much trouble. I bought this one because at this price it has Midi out! Most new ones have USB midi only and I need to run it into an external synth. I don't care if it's makes noise, I'm not a brilliant pianist or keyboard player, probably more like B- on keys.
Those plastic things are braces that fit along side your iPad to brace it tight. I use it in the studio and live. I like it. In a live situation you don’t even hear the minor noise of the keys. Works for me. I give it an 8.
I had that controller. I loved the feel of it even with the key clack and the fact that it has a midi out and tablet stand. I used a windows tablet with it. My issue was that sometimes the notes would not trigger when playing softly on the keys. I traded it in and got the novation lauchkey 49. I wish I had gotten the 61 key version though.
Hey, so you've used the midi out? I plan to soon (will be buying a volca fm), but will I have to keep it connected to my pc to use it? I have no experience with midi hardware.
@@claudeprince6724 Thats the problem with those midi out without a power DC connection. Same as the Roland A49, it has a midi out but no power. It defeats the purpose for me. Did you buy it, Or what else did you buy to control your volca fm? I am searching for one to control my jd-xi. Bought a cheapo m-audio, may have to go for a A500 pro since the a49 has this issue too
Good vid!! Yeah those keys were noises. I like the software that came with it, but the key bed is the first thing I look at. Also like the famous swipe in the video, it remind me of the price is right. Look at this lovely gift.
This midi carbon 49 really really the best ever I have seen ....but if you wanna make your own music....you just need to download logic pro x ....there is international all the countries instrumentals ....its my 3.day trying to look deeply in this program just wooow.trust me
Hey John, Great reviews! I want to ask and I hope you could please answer me. I'm a beginning producer with some piano background. I have to choose between this and the Akai mini MK2 for a MIDI. I like the Akai for everything that it offers but the small number of keys seriously bugs me. I'm worried that it'll slow down my creative process especially if I wanted to make "piano heavy pieces". Looking at you review of the Samson Carbon 49, I'm concerned how playing the keys would feel like compared to the mini MK2, and more importantly adding the drums to my music! What do you think? thanks a million for the content you put out, you've already helped me immensely
You’re welcome! If you are doing more piano stuff you will need more keys...so that’s kinda the trade off...it really depends on how much full range piano stuff you’ll be doing...which is why I have more than one controllers...small ones for travel and simple things...and big ones for piano stuff
Thanks for your reviews bro! Dude, it’s more noisy than Nektar??? Omg that’s bad. I was about to grab one at Sam Ash for $79 for my kid, but If it’s worse than Nektar I may save the $$. I keep reading the 4 VEL levels are horrible and you either play hard or soft, nothing in between
Haven’t used this before but had a horrible experience with a nectar impact lx, the velocity curve is terrible and it ddnt last a year before the keys started dying. Admitted I’m a heavy user but lasting barely a year just isn’t acceptable

Can you tell me about the velocity sensetivity? I've been reading that there are quite inconsistent.

Novation Impulse? Great review of Samson. The clacky issue is so wide spread. One felt strip would cure any them.....
