Ken's approach makes the most sense to me. Build the foundation first: proper diaphragmatic & breath support; open-throat technique; vowel modifications; build chest voice. A solid foundation in anything we do, will make us better. After only 1 lesson (so far) with Ken, I am pleased with my progress! I am beyond fortunate to have him as my coach!!
I started KTVA three years ago and it changed my life. I went from being asked to please stop singing to being asked to feature or guest on songs from artists I respect. I'm still learning and I have a lifetime of growth ahead of me and I'm so thankful I have Ken to help me become the best singer I can be.
I went with a band mate to Seth Riggs' house for her lesson; she had studied with a follower of his and was now going to the source. I thought Seth was very consistent in his approach of moving from chest to bridge to head and also to working in a sane fashion. She and I took some of our repertoire and he told us to change certain things like metre or key. My band mate said "but this is the key the band plays the song in." Seth replied "Then you're going to have to play with better musicians." He was right. That band eventually broke up, she went on to critical acclaim with a more talented band and I learned to be a better musician playing in better bands too. That was the turning point that made me into a working musician. So whatever else he was, Seth was a straight shooter and a good judge of horse flesh. Other than that I found this video a cool and realistic picture of both the musical and geographic landscape of the LA area.
AMAZING VIDEO! I so appreciate your sincerity, your altruism in giving us this important information--not to mention your engaging talent for speaking.. I have had several vocal coaches along the years both in person and online (yes even the ones who talk on the phone in the middle of a lesson, or go off on tangents while I am waiting to learn singing ). NOTHING beats the KTVA course. NOTHING. It's been over two years and I still get new insights from it. . I had recently clicked on a UA-cam video because your image was on the thumbnail--then I realized it wasn't your video at all, but a vocal "coach" critiquing you--click bait. . A lot of smoke and mirrors on UA-cam but I am forever thankful that i found YOU two years ago, as you have really transformed my voice. THANK YOU! .
Just a question and this DOES NOT apply to me, but there are people who worked with him How did Ronnie James Dio go on stage, and sing like THAT without warming up? His band have said this? How is this even possible.
Tip 1 = Anyone who says you don't have to exercise for life is lying. It's FOR LIFE. No way around it. Skip your exercises one day, you'll notice. Skip them two days, the band'll notice. Skip'em three days, the audience'll notice
I have to put my experience in here with Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy. I've been doing it since Sept 2019. I feel like I can finally start on level 3. There is so much info. I did a small concert last night. I play bass in a 3 piece rock and roll band. I trade singing lead with the guitar player and sing back up when he's doing the lead. We did a 2 hour gig and my voice was clear and on tune the whole gig. My voice has grown. My range has grown. The future looks even better as I progress vocally. - Thanks Ken
Awesome content, Ken. There are more "vocal coaches" on youtube than there are attorneys in NYC. I'm not a singer myself, but I watch all of these to improve my technical knowledge of singing. There are very few "vocal coaches" on youtube who require more than 10 minutes of research to understand they're not what they purport to be. If my favorite celebrity vocalist was looking for an American vocal coach, I would confidently recommend you.
My teacher tells the exact same things as you, including the speech level singing thing: it's crazy to think that speaking and singing are even in the same league when it comes down to the volume and the speed required. I also went before to a teacher who was sponsoring himself with a very talented student....didn't learn anything. Then I did as you say, I focused on the guy I thought had the most perfect vocal control and sound I had ever heard in my life, went to a live and checked it was the same all the way as on record, approached him to ask him about lessons and phoned him for one year to try to make it work: could not be any happier with that, he provided me with a new understanding of MY voice, not some abstract concept you could read on books. Don't fall for claims people, fall for people who actually sound like they are on a complete other league with respect to anyone else.
This guy is amazing! It doesn´t matter how long it takes if you love singing and you know that you have an expert like him. When I started KTVA there where some insecurities cause on the internet are a lot of incorrect informations as mentioned. Over time I realized that Ken Tamplin is the only one for me cause I understood that he knows what he is talking about. The most important thing is that you know who you are and who you can trust. KTVA... Where the proof is in the singing!
I just want to say: Thank you Ken for your course! I have been following the course for almost a year now (6 days a week for 2 hours a day) and the progress is amazing! Every week or 2 I found out something new in my voice! I never thought could learn falsetto or hight tones with such a quality! I can sing now for 3 hours without losing my voice at all. Year ago I would sing 2 songs and my voice will be ruined for couple of days. I cant express how much your course help me!

If you have to tell people you are the greatest singing coach online all that is is smoke and mirrors. The true greats like Ken, don't have to brag. The great prove it by actually singinging and back up their greatness. In my opinion there is a coach on here who can sing many different songs and generes. Has a simple phrase. "the proof is in the singing"
Life is so cool because i've been watching your videos for years and i never ask myself where and how did you learn how to sing until a week ago and boom there you are answering what was going trough my mind. And for the last year i am having lots of abundance like this that keeps me happy.thank you ken for this great video.BTW i do believe coincidences happen for a reason.
"MUST HAVE a Correlation, having a direct relation, to practical application." That statement is ever present in every Ken T video, but its more than just the valuable content.Your "rants" and side stories (tangents..LOL) back stories speak to each of us personally, continuously motivating/ giving hope.Your like the 22yr old down the street in 74, with lots of exp, where "WE" 14-17 yr old "students" hang out all day as you play album bytes (needle dwn -needle up..LOL) critiquing all our FAV vocals sharing your tips/advice, and NOT so much as a "teacher" like 99.9 of the other vocal lesson CHs Ive seen, where the impersonal, by the book, "lesson" takes place. All 7 lies..Spot ON!
Thank you for actually dropping names on people that are teaching possebly harming info and talking fokes time. Its really easy for me as an aprentice to be fooled but i sincerley am gratefull for your action of saying NO to lies💪
If a vocal coach isnt honest with me how will i grow?? I know im not at my vocal best so..uhhh yes tell me where i suck and work on them honestly 100% I appreciate what you bring to the table Ken..Thank You💃🌟
I am on volume 2 of your course and it has changed my life! I hope one day that I could afford a personal lesson with you. Money hasn't been on my side lately or in my wallet but I hope to find a way. Thank you soo much for everything!
Yep. Learning how to play an instrument is not in the same league as learning how to sing. I'm a guitar player, but I'm never worried about ruining my fingers while playing. Therefore I feel that guitar is more flexible in terms of learning. You can learn something from just about anyone. Even the players that have less experience than you... Singing is way more vulnerable. When I sing, I'm always holding a little bit back on certain aspects because I have no clue what I'm doing sometimes. But at the same time, there are times where I get this "flow" feeling where nothing feels wrong and I hit the notes I want to. (But again. I have no idea if my technique is good or bad) You need proper information when singing. Otherwise you could ruin your voice.. Therefore you can't do like I feel some "vocal coaches" do. .. Just go on UA-cam and learn a few scales and maybe a warm up excercise, and then call yourself a vocal coach.. If I were to join a vocal course. It would be yours.
I caught this after the fact. Have to admit it's fun watching Ken getting miffed by these people. I love your stuff, Ken, valuable info here. Much appreciated. I actually don't like that everything in the world is advertising and marketing now and about "personal brand". Keep up the good work, Ken, thank you.
Thanks for all of your amazing information and for your course! I’ve grown my range incredibly and I’m only halfway through. I wish these live streams were also podcasts! I would to have the option to watch or listen. Thanks for all your hard work and sharing your talents with us.
Yes Ken Bel Canto is IT. Its simple biomechanics of air pressure and how it works. Its the only technique that teaches crying baby breathing instead of sleeping baby breathing. Pavarotti knew breath is EVERYTHING. Caruso said no change in the throat from low note to high note. He said "never sing into the nasal cavity" and that "the open throat is maintained by the POWER OF THE RESPIRATION." Its all in his book. Old school dude. Helge Roswaenge learnt from Caruso's book and I tell you IT WORKS FOR ROCK AND POP too. BTW Ken you are right. Correct lower back breathing and appogio "lean" takes TIME its not quick but it's foolproof when u get it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this! I’m a vocal coach and I was just curious to what your points would be! And I agree. Students should really do their research, and it makes a big difference when a teacher can actually demonstrate what their trying to teach. Great tips for vocal students!
I usually comment a day before the show starts. Just because I want to be first and wishful thinking you would notice I am always first. But when the broadcast starts its never there. Anyway, I posted my 7 lies, and was wondering if they matched yours. Wonderful show Ken Thank you.
Kenny when an If I ever start singing again ~ You're My MAN plus I don't never click the other's, You know why also. . . Love You My Friend Thanks a Millions for Being YOU! 💜
Thanks for being honest Ken telling us the truth about singing man your a awesome guy and a great UA-cam friend man enjoy the rest of your weekend I'll see you Monday god bless you 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
What i like about ken tamplin is that he provides information and talks to you like he really wants to help you sing, not like those other vocal teachers who talk like robots and don't connect to you.
The other vocal coaches talk to you like college tours. Look at how great we are we'll make you just as great. Then they leave you with a professor who tells you to just read the textbook haha.
Oh OK I knew you have Italian heritage but I didn't know "Tamplin" is a Sicilian name. All these years I have always thought Italian surnames always end with vowels. So this is a new revelation to me.
About that baby crying thing, one local vocal coach that has started to release some tips in YT too used that to show how that twang (or ping) sounds like and how one can try to find it. There's no power/pressure used in that and it's by no means a practice, but when the sound is fully opened, it sounds a lot like what you use in your ping rehearsals, especially those long bright la runs. Maybe a bit more nasal, but anyway. So there's something in that baby's crying sound, not so much in that technique. Oh and by the way she can sing herself and she has studied quite a bit also (even has a degree on it, pop/jazz line though), so I think I can trust her stuff (I've actually found a lot of similar things that YOU teach, just with different words or nuances... and with my native language, which can sometimes help). To make it clear, I'm not her student (at least not yet, maybe at some point), but just wanted to point out that baby thing now that you mentioned it.
well how many vocal coaches have as many cds out as ken? How many has so many videos of them singing low and high and really high songs? How many of the coaches have students who can sing good? How many has 30 years of exp like ken? These are questions you have to ask. When i started kens course i would blow my voice out and ill admit i was pissed and i was neg towards kens program. I later learned why i was . I WAS DOING IT WRONG. This was all my fault. I came back a year later. I learned the right way and went back and gave ken 's program a second chance. Now im learning and discovering my self in many many ways. I do his program 6 days a week 2 hours of workouts then singing after . MY voice has never felt this good in my life. love the program and everything he and bob and everyone has done for us learning. So inspiring. Massive amount of respect to the real teacher The proof is in the singing!
Awesome, J Q! I love hearing that! Keep up the great work. I would sure appreciate you posting your experience on one of these sites, if you have a minute. Rock on! www.quora.com/Is-Ken-Tamplin-Vocal-Academy-worth-the-money-for-singing-lessons www.reddit.com/r/singing/comments/5y3yni/is_ken_tamplin_vocal_academyktva_really_good/ www.sevenstring.org/threads/ken-tamplin-vocal-academy.303566/
SLS didn’t help me either, Estill technique did. I still haven’t uploaded any cover because I’m still learning, but I’m amazed because my voice is getting a lot better, it used to be horrible. Lol
Hey Ken, If you can, (and you may have done this already) but can you do a video on helping us choose and figure out the best key to sing in, per voice and range. I once had a teacher who kept insisting I sing my songs in higher keys, hmm, thanks as always man. Love your coarse and what you do!
Thank you for this video Ken! Love you, and appreciate you dude! You are all about wanting to serve people who want to sing, and that passion shows! 🙏💖 YOU ROCK!!! 🤘😎🤘
wow this video was absolutely amazing! thank you so much for doing this live and addressing all these issues!!! I have a quick question, at 37:40 what is that red snake looking thing thats moving from the right side to the left side outside your door/window on the left? like 498 from me👍😀😀😀
nice explanation Ken! when i also have a singing question that i cant find answer from,i do my research by asking various vocal coaches about it and then see what fits better my voice, and through these questions you can understand easier which one is professional and which one isn't! You are clearly a professional! Can i ask you a vocal question i have for a while now! Can you actually blend head voice with whistle register? kinda similar to what happens between chest/head that create the mix!? i have seen different opinions on this so i am curious!
The KTVA forum is a great community of singers, currently doing the KTVA method, chatting about all things related to voice. This is the best place to post your question. You can join the discussion by enrolling, it's free. Check it out!: forum.kentamplinvocalacademy.com/
Yeah your right ! they can tell you everything, but you might fall in the Niagara falls, just saying hi to someone by turning your head, and after saying hi, looking back, bam down you go, Rollercoast.
1: Any one who decive you? is the one who is saying by saying that you can do something in a short time ! LYER that's a LYER., the biggest Lyer there is, to tell you do something in amount of time, is a Snake. Like oh You can do that just like that, no way, is a Jellyfish.
Hey Ken, did you ever do a video on how to do the head voice/whistle register, for hitting the top notes in Minnie Ripperton's song "Loving You"? Ive watched a few videos now but they're mostly of very young singers whose credentials are doubtful. The voice is something that needs to be treated with respect and care. I only started wondering recently if I could comfortably reach those notes. Previously Id ruled it out completely. Thankyou!
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy ok Thankyou. Maybe I’ll just concentrate on improving my higher register? My voice was classed in the mezzo range when I was in serious training & performing. But another well known teacher at the time, was arguing I was doing the wrong repertoire bc I was a soprano. It was all very political in the day (probably still is?) But now I’m just happy doing Blues & Jazz. I really love that song Loving You, & I’m disappointed that I can’t do it for the sake of one note. I know I could do a lower note. But I like the challenge 😂 & it’s kind of the signature phrase (to me). I really acknowledge your persistence & consistency in your career. It’s not easy. ❤️
U sound more like a Vocal Scientist, so much research material u hv. Wish u react and Analyse some of Indian Classical as well. Appreciate ur work . From India 🇮🇳
Hey Ken, Started watching your channel recently :) I was in a local metal band from Redlands in the early 80’s. Our vocalist had went to Sabine. So many did then... Ron Keel, Michael Sweet, etc. Then you mentioned John Elefante. Obviously made me think of Kansas and Pakaderm Studios, not sure if the spelling is right 🤔 Oddly enough, I am a fairly good acquaintance of the newest singer of Kansas named Ronny Platt. Great guy and vocalist! I had met him in Chicago before he joined Kansas. And John E. singing with John Schlitt in the Jay Sekulow Band.... great stuff. Then Ron Anderson. I’ve been taking some vocal lessons from JR Richards whom takes from RA. JR was the vocalist from Dishwalla back a few years. Again, great guy and vocalist... It was just crazy how most of the ppl you mentioned, I had a tie to somehow. 7th degree type stuff 😂 Then you mentioned you were I NB... kinda felt cosmic. I really appreciate your videos. You are the real deal. God Bless, Rob
sorry it's prob my A.D.D but right at 38:50 some small creature runs across your backyard or the shadow of someone lol we just had a mouse in our backroom so I am prob overly aware of these things haha. Now about the actual video I appreciate all the honest info very much
I totally felt n°3.. XD some teachers had me do some sort or yoga poses or whatever and yeah they worked at the time but all they did was opening the throat, like you teaches us in a more direct way... Anyway, what's the point of the yoga pose if I can't sing without it.. XD I really like KTVA so far. It's a straight to the point, no nonsense way of teaching. :) I also generally like teachers who are rather strict. You can't learn from a teacher who is too nice. Even though a strict teacher can make you feel like you suck sometimes (this was my experience with my guitar teacher), when they finally compliment you it feels soooo much better... XD
P.s there's a guy on you tube who says all the time I'm the greatest vocal coach of all time... I don't understand why he starts every video saying how awesome he is? The bible says prides comes before the fall... And the 30day singer thing is absolute cobs wobble!!! Smelly sausage!!
These comments are absolutely hilarious 🤣🙈 people screaming at trees being told to jump off roofs like wth! Surely this cant be true?! Nevertheless Mr Tamplin you 4 me are IT you really IT 💯🙏
hi mr. ken im big fan of ur videos since 2015, one of my big dream is always wanted to be your student, not just online but i really want to meet u in person and receive the lesson and experince! i wish someday can became true HAHA 😭🤣 cheers from indonesia sir! 🙋🏽♂️
OMG i enjoyed it very much, only the sad story pffffff, it shocked me, my my. but your a very good Person, really, you gave me strength. I thank you for that really i do.
UA-cam has created a multitude of con artists. If you think singing is bad, the financial advisors are far worse. People who have acquired nothing giving financial advice to kids who don’t know the difference. Sad.
Let me get this straight... a dude comes to you to ask your critique..... you give it, helping him.... then he gets mad because you didn't stroke his ego.... 😂😂😂😂 Now I done heard everything..... go to a professional annnnnd get mad when you get tips. SMH....😅 Are you still doing livestreams by the way.
Ken's approach makes the most sense to me. Build the foundation first: proper diaphragmatic & breath support; open-throat technique; vowel modifications; build chest voice. Anyway, I posted my 7 lies, and was wondering if they matched yours.
Wonderful show Ken
Thank you.
Glad you're here, David! I appreciate it! Rock on!
Kenny when an If I ever start singing again ~ You're My MAN plus I don't never click the other's, You know why also. . . Love You My Friend Thanks a Millions for Being YOU! 💜

I appreciate that!
Happy to hear that man I mean every word buddy
I absolutely love all you talk about. You are the greatest. Honestly the best on line. Love you Ken.
Appreciate that!
What i like about ken tamplin is that he provides information and talks to you like he really wants to help you sing, not like those other vocal teachers who talk like robots and don't connect to you.
I DO really want to help. It's true! Rock on!
@@kentamplin omgosh, you're amazing ken! You reply to almost every comment, I salute you.
The other vocal coaches talk to you like college tours. Look at how great we are we'll make you just as great. Then they leave you with a professor who tells you to just read the textbook haha.
Ken Rocks!!!!!! You changed my life man!!! I cannot afford your course now! But soon I will join!
👍😀
Oh OK I knew you have Italian heritage but I didn't know "Tamplin" is a Sicilian name. All these years I have always thought Italian surnames always end with vowels. So this is a new revelation to me.
I'm Italian on my mother's side. The Tamplin side is Scotch-Irish.
Very inspiring to hear your story. I have tremendous respect for you, sir
I appreciate that!
The Batman of singing
🦇
I agree.
Thank you for your honesty! I’m signing up for your class soon 🙂
👍😀
well how many vocal coaches have as many cds out as ken?
Massive amount of respect to the real teacher
The proof is in the singing!
Awesome, J Q!
I love hearing that! Keep up the great work.
I would sure appreciate you posting your experience on one of these sites, if you have a minute.
Rock on!

Sir. Ken , for me I really want and believe your vocal coaches are excellent 💯❤️❤️❤️❤️
Right on the money. If a music teacher can't do what they want you to do in front of you. Run.
The proof is in the singing.
@@kentamplin Can't agree more?
SLS didn’t help me either, Estill technique did. I still haven’t uploaded any cover because I’m still learning, but I’m amazed because my voice is getting a lot better, it used to be horrible. Lol
Keep up the hard work, Sergio!
The best vocal man
👍😀
I’m a nurse and older experienced nurses and doctors love to make you feel less intelligent when you don’t know something
Thanks Ken, this was terrific. You’re a great person 🙏
I appreciate that!
Hi I think your brilliant, love your singing and UA-cam videos. Long live rock and roll.. 🤟
Thank you , Aaron!
Hey Ken, If you can, (and you may have done this already) but can you do a video on helping us choose and figure out the best key to sing in, per voice and range. I once had a teacher who kept insisting I sing my songs in higher keys, hmm, thanks as always man. Love your coarse and what you do!
Great suggestion!
Thank you for this video Ken! Love you, and appreciate you dude! You are all about wanting to serve people who want to sing, and that passion shows! 🙏💖 YOU ROCK!!! 🤘😎🤘
You rock!
wow this video was absolutely amazing! thank you so much for doing this live and addressing all these issues!!! I have a quick question, at 37:40 what is that red snake looking thing thats moving from the right side to the left side outside your door/window on the left? like 498 from me👍😀😀😀
Glad it was helpful!
Sabine had me scream at a tree. That was enough for me for find somebody else
😀👍
I do have so much Respect, the things you've been through, wow....hard Men ! very hard.
But You made it !.
You deserve it !....
I appreciate that.
@@kentamplin Yeah shure you do, come on, does lyers, grrrrrr, i can't stand People who lie! You tell them kenny.
This has nothing to do with gossiping, no, every body needs to know the truth.
nice explanation Ken! when i also have a singing question that i cant find answer from,i do my research by asking various vocal coaches about it and then see what fits better my voice, and through these questions you can understand easier which one is professional and which one isn't!
Ken you are hands the the greatest 💯 thank you for being a huge blessing to us
I appreciate that!
You see Kenny !!!??? this explains so many !.
😀👍
Thank you very very much !
You are welcome!
Yeah your right ! they can tell you everything, but you might fall in the Niagara falls, just saying hi to someone by turning your head, and after saying hi, looking back, bam down you go, Rollercoast.
👍
This is gold Ken thank you...look at the mouse run behind you on your porch at 38:49min ❤
Haha!
Hi i Ken, your the real deal!! ✌🏽😎

Singing lesson + life lessons, 2 for 1 thanks Ken, extra extra good value man, cheers, love and peace everyone
👍😀
1: Any one who decive you? is the one who is saying by saying that you can do something in a short time ! LYER that's a LYER., the biggest Lyer there is, to tell you do something in amount of time, is a Snake.
Like oh You can do that just like that, no way, is a Jellyfish.
👍
Hey Ken, did you ever do a video on how to do the head voice/whistle register, for hitting the top notes in Minnie Ripperton's song "Loving You"? Ive watched a few videos now but they're mostly of very young singers whose credentials are doubtful. The voice is something that needs to be treated with respect and care. I only started wondering recently if I could comfortably reach those notes. Previously Id ruled it out completely. Thankyou!
I haven't.
That s Why i only learn from you😉 the truth about singing
😀👍
Amazing ken
you could put more exercises to strengthen head voice ?
Possibly.
Thanks !
Thank you for this
Ken, Elizabeth passed in 2015. I read her book.
Thank you.
U sound more like a Vocal Scientist, so much research material u hv.
Wish u react and Analyse some of Indian Classical as well.

You look amazing, happy and Glad.
Thank you!
You sound great is probably #1.
👍
So many peeps you mentioned have meaning from back in the day! Love your stuff and a big hello from Costa Mesa! ;)
Hello there!
God Bless,
Rob
Kinda improved my singing, thank you.
👍😀
Thanks Ken !
You bet!
Georgia!
👍
Love watching You hahahaha.....great !.
Glad you enjoy it!
@@kentamplin I shure did, and always do !!!! Kenny !!!!.
sorry it's prob my A.D.D but right at 38:50 some small creature runs across your backyard or the shadow of someone lol we just had a mouse in our backroom so I am prob overly aware of these things haha. Now about the actual video I appreciate all the honest info very much
Haha, I had to go back and watch. There was definitely a little critter out there!
@@kentamplin I have a trained eye to spot the distraction haha
I know also one Coach who was false, the Phantom of the Opera.
True. Or was he just misunderstood?
@@kentamplin pfff i don't give a d...m hahahahaha.
I totally felt n°3.. XD some teachers had me do some sort or yoga poses or whatever and yeah they worked at the time but all they did was opening the throat, like you teaches us in a more direct way... Anyway, what's the point of the yoga pose if I can't sing without it.. XD
I really like KTVA so far. XD
Thanks for weighing in, Ninatori Official!
P.s there's a guy on you tube who says all the time I'm the greatest vocal coach of all time... I don't understand why he starts every video saying how awesome he is? The bible says prides comes before the fall...
And the 30day singer thing is absolute cobs wobble!!! Smelly sausage!!
No! Not smelly sausage!
Would you tell any name of a good vocal coach on UA-cam? (Besides you obviously)
🦗🦗🦗

Hello sir
Hello!
im the 667 like, ha! , nice video!
UA-cam has created a multitude of con artists. If you think singing is bad, the financial advisors are far worse. People who have acquired nothing giving financial advice to kids who don’t know the difference. Sad.
😀
You can add, making money online” to that list!
Isn't Kenny Awesome !!!! Yeah..............................................
Thanks!
Let me get this straight... a dude comes to you to ask your critique..... you give it, helping him.... then he gets mad because you didn't stroke his ego....
😂😂😂😂
Now I done heard everything..... go to a professional annnnnd get mad when you get tips. SMH....😅
Are you still doing livestreams by the way.
