    We have lost our snow baskets many times too. No super glue is needed. Just wrap a couple of thinly cut strips of duct tape below them after screwing on. They can't unscrew and come off . It works for us. You also have a small amount of duct tape for an emergency. This is my first ever UA-cam comment but I owe you for all of your great advice.

    I love your channel. You deserve to have a couple hundred thousand subscribers, and I can't figure out why you don't. But, God-willing, you will. Your genuine kindness as individuals...and as a couple, shines through every episode. And the breathtaking footage? Unrivaled! I only wish I lived out west, near the Sierras or Rockies, instead of the crappy mid-Atlantic states. I'm currently going through a long period of unemployment because of the war in the Middle East (I'm a tour guide by profession), so I have had too much time to watch UA-cam. Normally, I have no time. But your videos bring much joy and "escapism" to my less than optimal current circumstances. Merry Christmas...and wishing you a happy, healthy, summit reaching 2024!!

    What the heck are you doing to your snow baskets? Mind never have fallen off and I change them every season.
    My poles are Black Diamonds if that matters.
    Kudos for recommending the MSR snowshoes. Their side crampon makes traversing a snow slope really easy which is something that is really difficult with other snowshoes.
    I think it's pretty funny that your sweater has two very happy male reindeers on it.

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  6 місяців тому

      Haha I'm all about the deer pride sweater Ellen! Those boys are having a very merry Christmas! We gotta figure out what we're doing wrong with the snow baskets, because we've lost them on Black Diamonds and also on another brand of poles. It might have to do with the level of intensity, but it can't be the length of the hikes because they're always twisting off in the first few miles. We'll see what happens with this epoxy plan... And ya I love the grip on the MSRs as well -- we use them on all kinds of steep slick terrain and feel really confident. --A

    Great ideas! I want heated gloves! Every hiker must do snowshoeing. I was at Red River NM trying to learn cross country skiing. My brain and legs failed to communicate properly and I kept falling on my face. They then gave me snow shoes, and I was hooked! In some ways it’s more beautiful than in the summer because often you are all alone in snow covered mountains. I even go by myself, because if I fall, I just go splat in the snow.

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  6 місяців тому

      I totally agree, Monte. I've tried both as well, and much prefer snowshoeing for the variety of off-trail adventures you can do in them! It really is incredible to be out there all alone -- so glad that you know that joy. And yes, the heated gloves will change everything if you have cold-hand circulation issues, especially if you're trying to go to higher altitudes where it can get really dire. --A

    Great ideas! It reminds me of the one and only time I have ever tried snowshoes. I was visiting friends in the western USA (different places) but was on my own in Seattle and went on an organized (tourist) daytrip to Mt Rainier National Park (amazing rainforest). It was March so we didn't go high because of all the snow but, at one point during the day, the bus stopped, the driver unloaded a pile of snowshoes onto the carpark and basically said, "Off you all go, see you back here in 2 hours". Everyone else had disappeared by the time I had figured out how to get the snowshoes onto the bottom of my hiking shoes, and I just stood there in front of what looked to me like a wall of snow rising out of the carpark and thought, "You gotta be joking!" But I didn't want to spend 2 hours in the carpark, so I gave it a go and it was AWESOME - I just pretty much walked up that "wall", spent a happy hour shuffling around in the woods at the top and then, much to my amazement, just walked down the wall again back into the carpark. Who knew you could more or less glue yourself to snow!? Obviously it was very unserious compared to what you guys do, but it was such fun! I've never had occasion to use snowshoes again since, but I've often remembered those couple of hours with enormous pleasure. 😊❤

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  6 місяців тому +1

      Yes Catherine!!! A lot of people don't realize that in addition to preventing sinking in the snow they also have excellent teeth on the bottom to prevent slipping on icy and steep snowy terrain. Very glad you had that experience, because it's kind of hard to understand until you try it. We're hoping everyone who feels bummed out about the approach of winter snows will try it at least once because, as your experience shows, it's a game-changer! ❤️

At the small forest next to my house (literally those come 30m to our front door) there are 3-6 deer heard living and I tend to walk on their path. Your sweater brought that up... LoL!
    One of those deer was eaten around a week ago.. there should be a lynx! Wow.. Im gonna try to track it because that is a beautiful creature! Luckily snow depth is under 30cm so normal winter boots are still enough!

    Love watching your videos, guys.
    Do you guys use crampons? I find that unless the snow is knee to thigh deep, snowshoes are cumbersome and not necessary. Most of the time, having good traction on your hiking boots with gaiters does the trick, and provides for much better agility.
    Keep up the awesome vids. Sending positive vibes your way for the holidays and beyond. Cheers.

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard

      Thanks very much, and so glad you're enjoying the vids! Yes we definitely do use crampons especially for any kind of ice or steep packed snow, and totally agree with you that snowshoes aren't necessary unless the snow is knee high or more. But we usually get a lot of really deep snow in the Sierra, and post-holing through that stuff is a nightmare without snowshoes so sometimes we just have to bring crampons and snowshoes both! ❤️

    Awesome! Didn't know the heated gloves with a turn on button even exist :) Kind of curious though why snowshoes need to be so expensive. Seems like a rather simple piece of tech, and the prices can be twice cheaper than what you've mentioned in the video. So, what could go wrong with the cheap ones? Would you be concerned about the quality of the fixtures or the lifetime of these things?

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  6 місяців тому

      That's a great question. The ones we have are relatively cheap but work well -- maybe the concern with even cheaper ones would be that the straps that hold your feet in might not be super secure or easy to fasten and unfasten. That seems like the trickiest bit of tech. We've used ours a lot and so far they're still in good shape, but we figure even when we need to get new ones it's still a lot cheaper than skiing where the lift tickets just kill you! ❤️

      I've had snow baskets on many different poles for decades, never lost a one. Are you using after-market baskets? I always buy poles that come with OEM baskets, then screw them on/off as necessary. Maybe mine stay on because they are designed for the specific poles I'm using.

    Hi guys! Your video turned out great - it was very fun and positive, and Adam’s indecent sweater certainly lifted my spirits :)))
    A big request to you - please highlight in some subsequent video what dangerous, predatory animals you encountered on your hikes and how closely you had to interact with them! Of particular interest are, of course, poisonous snakes, mountain lions, as well as wolves and bears! If you haven't seen these animals often or at all, I hope they won't come your way in the future.

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard

      Ya we'd love to do one on the animals we've encountered. Lots of bears and snakes and tarantulas, and also some amazing Bighorn sheep, mountain goats, and some Ibex in Europe! Somehow we've never seen a mountain lion in all our hundreds of hikes though. ❤️

      @@LiveHardxLoveHard Yes, it would be just great to see a video like this sooner or later. I hope that it will appear on the channel in the near future :)) Well, the fact that you haven’t seen a puma is perhaps even good. After all, a big cat is a very cautious animal, and if it appears in your field of vision, then this definitely does not bode well, since it means that the puma was hunting you, tracked you down and came into line of sight, already to attack!

    I hate my MSR Evos. MSR in general has outdated snowshoe designs. People should definitely look at something more modern with more careful design - like TSL. I've done Dewey with my EVos in fresh snow and really wish I had something with better straps, better designed teeth, and cool little things like climbing adjustments. Some of them are similar prices to the Evos.

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  6 місяців тому

      Have you ever used any that have the climbing adjustments? I've been wondering about those because we're looking to get into some steeper stuff this season.We love how extraordinarily light and simple the Evos are, but going ultra-light and simple with everything is kind of our thing. Could def see why people would prioritize other features though. --A

    I'm all about making things function well even though they don't. What if you just added some mini tethers onto the snow baskets or use automotive hose clamps to secure them? Also, am I the only one that noticed that those two deer are both male and that makes it a gay sweater?

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  6 місяців тому

      Haha I think you might be, that's awesome! Deer pride! 😂 The hose clamp is a really interesting idea, but don't you think the same repetitive pounding motions that make the baskets unscrew might make the clamps unscrew?
