For some funny reason I found myself singing the theme song for this today at work but I couldn't remember where I'd heard it before. I Googled it and found out although I'm still puzzled why the tune popped into my head this morning as it's been years since I watched this show! I'm not complaining though as it's why I'm watching this now and enjoying a trip down memory lane!
gosh, this is a treat - the stars of some of my favorite shows on TV. Jack Bolam - When my Ship Comes In, New Tricks. Peter Bowles, taking the silk on 'Rumpole of the Bailey', and Richard Wilson of 'One Foot In The Grave', and that show about that London auction house the name of which presently escapes me.
I reckon they deffo changed the recipe these were the days before aspartame which poisons the taste of everything. They deffo changed the recipe [f Country store the breakfast cereal since it came out in the 80's
Everything is diluted with shit these days . people under the age of 45 just don't know they are being conned even chocolate bars are shrunk and the original taste has gone . .
Walking around a hospital ward both of them smoking like a lum. Job advert with open age discrimination. I'm only 4 minutes in and .. it's certainly changed days😅 Actually that reminds me of a conversation I had other day when someone was talking about the smoking section on PLANES in the 80s. Seemed a bit of a fire hazard!
I even wrote to Yorkshire TV to ask if I could buy 'The Archie Gown' but they said no as it was being used on other progsl That's how much of a Bowles fan I was!
Smoking on tv (you don't see it so often anymore...now the trend is to drink)and the smoking in a hospital reminds me of when teachers used to smoke during the class or when it was allowed to smoke on planes some years ago. How blind we've been as back then nobody paid attention to it and now-a-days seems inmoral like a war crime.
TV producers: We need a miserable bollox to play a miserable bollox Casting Director: Get Bolam he plays the same miserable bollox in everything he's in and he won't have to act as in real life he is also (you guessed it) a miserable bollox
Never understood why Eric Chappell & Yorkshire Television didn't take the opportunity to have different characters & actors each series, it would have made it more realistic by the end of series 3 people were just saying how the characters couldn't all still be in hospital. Imagine the scope they could have had with different actors a bit like the customers in Arkwright's shop a guest appearance once allowed for a better set up. They could have centred the show around Thorpe & Gupta with the patients as back up characters.
Thanks for your kind comment, I'm slowly going through old VHS tapes and finding all sorts of things. I think that there might be a couple more of these lurking somewhere that I might put up later in the year if there are no copyright issues with this one though I think this episode is probably the funniest.one that I have.

Although excellently written and of its day . I cant help but reflect sadly upon James Bolams feet in many pieces of work from comedy , drama and film . Yes he is a fine actor . but something is missing and he knows it . Success beyond imagination is what Bolam could have been had he stopped with Rodney Bewes . Look at the daft Ant and Dec how ridiculously successful they are and the likely lads were much better . I believe Bolam shot himself in the foot by not setting aside the differences between him and Bewes and although not a worthless carreer in any form, its not the carreer he could have had /should have had with Bewes . Even today , Bolam stubbornly refuses to admit he was catastrophicly wrong to finish with the likely lads . which could have gone on and on till Bewes died .

It's so weird seeing all the 80s ads!
This episode was originally shown May 13th 1980, but the rerun was 1993, the year that Tim and Bill were advertising Oat and Wheat Bran.
