- In this portion of the Cleopatra Queen room renovation, we learn about straight pain lines, and of course, we learn the hard way. But it's a lesson we won't soon forget. Watch as we get the blues making our Cleopatra room blue.

Queen's Escape was inspired by the 4 years the Belgian royal family stayed at Château de La Tuilerie during WWII. In particular, it is for the Queen. The king took shelter at a different location in France. We've named each of our guest rooms after great Queens of the past and present from around the world. Margrethe, Eleanor, Catherine, Himiko, Cleopatra, and soon our bridal suite will be ready in honor of Queen Elizabeth II.
With it's sprawling green meadows, 100-year-old trees, and historic location in the small medieval town of Gluges, the 200-year-old château is truly an escape. With 5 guest rooms to rent and a stunning Orangery, we look forward to welcoming you for a visit or to host your wedding or event.

Hi from Ferndale Michigan. Karen, your color choices are totally awesome. No one can get corners perfectly painted, tape or free hand the first time. Your walls are wonky to boot. Please do not be so hard on yourself, you are creating some very lovely rooms and other art. I am looking forward to seeing the end result
❤️❤️❤️ Thank you for that encouragement.
Love the colours! All your hard work & attention to detail is paying off & shows how much work goes into getting it right. You’re an inspiration, Karen!
You are kind, Kathy. This was not my proudest moment, but I was happy when it was done. ❤️
Really felt for you there Karen, but it turned out good! I can’t wait to see the wallpaper go up. You and Bo are doing a great job! I love your chateau! ❤
Wednesday, Johanna! And it sure made a difference. Helped me forget how the blue paint hurt my heart. ❤️
For painters tape, when u ready to take it off, use a hairdryer and take it off that way.
Well done Karen. Live and learn❤️
Nice color of blue. Looking forward to seeing the wallpaper.
Coming Wednesday. It was also not without its challenges, but there’s a happy ending.
Great job Karen.
Finished product looks great! Good job!
I made straight lines by using a big spatula, and it works for me, come from far with the brush and then closer to the spatula so the brush is not full of paint. Your edges are looking good now at the end of the video, good job!
Wow, what a tedious job that was! It looks much better after all that work. 👍🏻
I'm sorry about your frustration and disappointment, it takes some work to recover gracefully. Well done for sticking with it!
Thank you.
It's hard to paint a room but you are learning a lot! It will turn out fine!
We are better prepared for the next rooms.
What a struggle! But, it looks wonderful now.
Pretty good! It's going to be real pretty.
Hi Karen 🙏🏻and Bo 🙏🏻 ❤🇺🇸✌ from cold snowy Vermont, USA.
P.s. Karen, you did a good job on the paint repair (been there...) I love the deep blue 😊 I hope to see some straightup Egyptian references in the Cleopatra room 🐪🐫🐪🐫😎
❤️❤️❤️
I've used deep wall colors and it usually requires 2-3 coats and things show up more on white trim but it's a rich color! Looks like peacock colors!
Ooh, peacock colors are beautiful. I think that would fit in my Eleanor room - she was a vivacious dresser and I was thinking to go with jewel tones. Thank you!
The colour is beautiful! I have always pulled the tape off before everything dries then it is a clean straight line. Sorry this happened.
You did it right! It makes perfect sense when I think about it. But I promise I’ll remember that lesson!
Hi Karen. If painting another room, would sanding the wall around the trim and prepping the trim first before paintting be helpful?❤❤
Of course it would. I just didn’t know when Bo started that it needed to be done. I shan’t forget it! 😊
Love the blue and attention to details. The result looks fresh and crisp.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Suggestion: Mr Clean Magic Eraser - use damp on cured painted surfaces to get small marks off rather than touch ups. Ie. Blue paint on trim. Not sure about using it on the blue wall test first.
I love those. Will pick some up in the US.
Get paintable chalk. It’s avaiable in all diy stores
seen people use a heat gun to remove the tape
Karen. Maybe use trim molding on top of the baseboards. So much work sanding
Oh Donna, I just looked it up. What a smart idea. I have that in mind for the next room - the Elizabeth room.
You can make clean lines free hand instead of using tape. You just have to be careful. Tape just makes a mess as you can see. I love your colour choice.🤗🇨🇦
I’m good at painting pictures bc I am bad at straight lines. My dad is good. I’ll get him over next time. 😊
Are you going to paint behind the radiator? Even if the walls are not straight you can fill in the holes and sand to make the appear in better condition
I will have to ask Bo about that.
Did not worry about caulk being straight. I'd use white caulk instead of clear and wet your finger as you apply it
I think you’re right. The clear is a bit plasticky.
Love the blue. Why dont you put some doors in front of the opening above the door to the hallway. Would look nicer and hide the pipes or what it is :)
The pipes you are seeing are in the bathroom. The previous owners added the bathrooms, but only built the wall 2/3 of the way up. I cannot explain that but raising those walls has been #1 on my list since we moved in. Bo days we need a pro, so I’m saving.
Nice color. Sometimes it's best to "cut in " and not use tape. If your walls are rough the tape does not help
Our walls were certainly rough. But after this stage, when the wallpaper guy came, I learned how he filled in some of the imperfections on the wall, and I think we should have done that before painting too. I’m going to do it in our next room - Elizabeth room.
Mistakes of first navigation voyager. Don’t despair. You need lots of patience.
How about a rubber mat under the ladder. Are u going to box the space on top of the bathroom.. I would block in the pipes and not loose heat to that space.
We are going to close off that wall eventually - but we will probably do all 4 rooms at the same time. I’m conscientious of the bathroom being without heat when we do that, so I’m thinking about a solution for that.
For me that is all in your prep work and should have been done before you painted the walls. Filling holes or sanding down on the walls where u have previously had a repair. You are using good products and expensive but not doing it justice by not doing any prep work. Marking it look cheap
Charlotte, it’s easy to see that after the fact. But I had to solve for the place I was in the project - and that was post-painting. Now, in the next room, we’ll certainly do this prep work pre-painting. But in the case of Cleopatra, we didn’t know what we didn’t know. 😊
