- Kicking off my peaty preparation for our Islay trip by reviewing these two initiation whiskies. Toned down to keep them friendly, these two whiskies seem to be made for people who haven't yet 'learnt' to appreciate what Islay has to offer!

I remember trying the Bowmore No1 it was nice and simple but not too peaty, really excited to stay there in March
It's gonna be good! :D
The comparisons work well.
Cheers guys :)
If you dont feel like lowering the level in your octomore or lag 16...but want a bit of brine..both do the job for relatively little money!
The select is got some PX cask influence, if you blind smelling and tasting it , it’s kind samiliar with lagavulin 16 in someway , peated sherry influenced Islay malt .
Just keep the " select" in mind if you ever have a whisky and think: "I wish this whisky was peated"... I only use this whisky for "peating" whiskies for "The Science". Cheers! 🥃
I can see that working well. These 2 ended up being my go-to drams whenever I had a cold haha. There was something about having muted senses that really changed the way they came across, the peat wasn't too heavy to overwhelm the other flavours but it kind of 're-balanced' everything.
Cheers Duncan 🥃👍
Both Laphroaig and Bowmore are trying to appeal to a larger audience... We are already a part of their existing audience. They don't need to appeal to us with this whisky...
Yeah that's exactly my take on it too. They get a harsh wrap from whisky enthusiasts a lot but we're not really who it's intended for.
