- PC Ashley Aspinall said he 'was genuinely convinced (he) was going to die' following the assault while on duty in Blackpool in April last year.
The chief constable of Lancashire police has slammed the decision not to jail the man who attacked Ashley.

Who would want to be a police person in the UK these days. Constantly berated & demonised for doing their work & yet having to deal with situations like this. What happened to that poor policewoman who had her nose broken by those 2 men at Manchester Airport for example? They were never convicted & we never heard how she is fairing, why not!?
It also often seems that the media highlights what is not right within the force but NEVER highlights those amazing people protecting us as best they can in more & more difficult situations. Pleased to see GM at least giving PC Aspinall his due respect.
Exactly, no other job where every day you risk your life, and get v little respect for it. Evil doers like Wayne Cozens saw to that - tainted all other constables & PCSO's many who are idealists, just wanting to change society for the better

The law for prison sentencing needs to change to being deterrent not lenient

What was the reason the judge gave for giving a suspended sentence? Did the judge give some indication that after he looked at the reports given to him by Drs, Social workers or other professionals that there was a reason why no custodial sentence was given in this circumstance?
One rule for some and on em rule for others why wasn’t this man imprisoned I do not know

one poor bloke on tick tock got 18 months for pretending he was being pursued in the riots; yet it caused no incitement, it was shown [hope he appeals]; the judicial system is inconsistent to put it mildly - if I say more i could get a follow up myself!
like the off duty Irish soldier who beat up an innocent woman on the street, breaking bones, beat her unconscious, putting her in hospital - suspended sentence ! kindly Irish judge!
