We use all 3 here. I use the frozen for quick lunches, and when we do burgers for dinner or something I use fresh ground. The patted ones we only use for Salisbury steak and brown gravy. I fry the patties with onions on our Blackstone for flavor, but because they dry out more we really only use them as Salisbury steaks. The frozen actually aren`t that bad, we usually buy the red back like you used. Great video, props for powering through with no condiments!
Always make mine fresh Matt, recently tried frozen Angus burgers from Walmart, not too bad! Great comparison Hussey 👏😆. Secrets safe here about breaking a state law🤣, never let it happen again lol🚔 cheers my friend
When my dad was alive, he raised black angus cattle and he kept our freezer full. Pretty sure it was closer to 50/50 than 80/20 LOL! But tasty! Now we usually get the pre-made fresh 80/20. Camping we take the frozen for convenience! All good if cooked right, but dads were always the best!
Hahahaha Good one Jacob. I always use the frozen except when I do the smash burgs. Never bought fresh pre-pattied, glad I didn't now. Great comparison Hussey.
We get the frozen ones from Walmart in the Box of 32. It's just a quick easy meal if we're looking for a quick meal. We think they taste like an old style Diner, or Bowling Alley burger. My family loves them with American Cheese. White or Yellow. Bacon too. We just don't think to take out the burger and make patties. Nor do we have time usually. Haven't done a preformed patty yet. Our grocery store has a pretty stellar meat counter. That's where we usually get our preformed patties. Thanks for the informative vid. Keep On Keepin' On!!!!! ❤ 👊 🍔 😊
Gooood morning Hussey. I feel the same way. Premade patties come out drier than the frozen. Homemade is always better in my book. Thanks for the video and GRIDDLE ON DUDE.
I always use the frozen patties. Just as good as hand patties but keep longer and obviously easier. I’ll do them by hand if I want to mix something with the beef.
I honestly cannot recall the last time I made anything other than a smashburger, lmao. You hooked me on them, and my family LOVES them, so that's pretty much all we do!
I like making my own patties but I also like using the pre patties also just because a little less time to do but if I have time I make my own patties for sure. great video
Huss my big guy! Long time fan and love the vids always, I literally have 2 big boy spare ribs in the smoker going now - then left to get som 80/20 sirloin to make some thick 1 1/2” burgers and some beef hot dogs and some drum sticks soon to be cherry colo flavored! This gonna be some good groceries fam! 1 love from my family to your family Huss!
Good morning Hussey from Marietta, GA! Glad to see your kids didn’t see you make those burgers without Duke’s mayo! Fun video. Did Maggie get one of those burgers?
I like to make my own from fresh ground 80/20. Typically buy it at Fresh Market on Tuesdays when they put it on sale. Got some Heffer Dust a couple of weeks ago and man, does that stuff make a great burger!
I just bought the same frozen 80/20 burgers. I use these same frozen burgers on the charcoal grill. They are great tasting when you dont want to make your own. I agree the pre packaged have issues lol.
i'm with you....i love the potato rolls too. most of the time, we use prepattys. loved "a shoe would taste good if it had Dukes on it". cant believe youre doing a blindfold test...lol
Great video, thank you. I almost always press my own I typically find the others to be too densely packed. You brought up a good point, about the fat content. It would be cool to test pre-ground to self-grind, maybe a couple/few different grinds at different fat levels, what do you think?
Frozen ones are something I've always done as my go to for a standard burger. However, they aren't as good with thicker burgers because they don't fully cook before the exterior ends up burning so you end up with the hot pocket thing of a frozen interior and burnt exterior. You also can't smash them... The frozen ones are awesome for when you need to make a LOT of them at the same time as well. I tend to get more annoyed when I get stuck with certain relatives who demand we use the crappy buns that are tiny and don't even hold the burger on it.
Good job! I personally do not like the pre-made patties. I have only bought them once and didn't like the texture at all. I prefer to make my own patties but there are some good frozen ones on the market. When I was catering or cooking for a crowd I would use the frozen patties from Costco. BTW - you should have put mayonnaise on all 3 of them.
Hussey, Next time you're out at the butcher or local grocery store that has an onsite butcher and get you some marrow bones and bake in the oven on foil bone up at 450 for 15 minutes for Molly. Sweet treat for little money.
Great job Hussey. I wouldn't have guessed the frozen would have beat out pre patty but we have it on tape. By the way, don't quit your day job to sing. Lol
Living the dream. Your taste is spot on. I tried a taste test with pepsi and coca cola and got them wrong every time. But our sodas are weird here in the UK. There is a sugar tax levy so all sodas are just so bad as there is much less sugar and more awful artificial sweeteners. Still a lot of shops do imported cans and bottles though. Hope you are well double H. Much love to you brother. 👍👍
@@thehungryhussey I'm all good double, always great to hear from you my friend. Yeah I'm good, just overwhelmed with the usual money and health issues, but then again, who isn't. Just been focusing all of my time and energy into my son's, so more of a lurker/liker. I pray everything is going great for you. 👌👌
Frozen vs store formed vs fresh formed, a very valid question indeed. Here's a question asked by the host of another channel: "Do you ever think about how many different cows are in that package of ground beef you bought at the store?" Not until you mentioned it a$$hole, but now I can't not think about it. So yeah, seriously considering grinding my own, lol.
Haha.. There’s different ones for sure. There’s a local place that processed deer for hunters and came under fire where people accused them of doing the same with their ground deer burger.
@@thehungryhussey My son used to work for a local smokehouse. They made hickory smoked bacon and apple smoked bacon. If they were packing apple smoked bacon, they would run until they ran out of apple and just load hickory and run until they ran out of apple labels, then they'd change to hickory labels. Same if they ran out of labels, they just load labels for the other meat and run till they ran out of meat then they'd load the meat that matched the label. My son didn't last too long there, lol.
When we cooked on a gas grill it was almost all frozen patties. On the Blackstone it's been all homemade patties I think. I should try some frozen ones now on the Blackstone. My issue is the amount of grease produced - sometimes it can get to be too much I think. I'm not a fan of mayo on burgers other than toasting the bun so I can forgive you on that.
I feel like I'm crazy because I always season my hamburger meat before making the patties. I never see anyone on YT do that. They all seem to season them once they put them on the grill. And I do use frozen one in awhile when I'm in a rush. Not to often though.
@gosman949 ok so I'm not crazy lol! I take a cake pan spread my hamburger out, drizzle some wash your sister sauce, salt, pepper, garlic, & smoked paprika on it. Mix & make my patties. Sometimes if I'm feeling spicy I'll put some Frank's Red Hot in it, or some cayenne pepper.
I swear they put shredded carrots in the pre-made patties. They have weird orange things in them. I used to do frozen, hand patty now and have for years
If we're doing burgers, we'll get the pre pattied burgers from the grocery store butcher shop. If we are doing smash burgers, we'll make our own meat balls to smash.

I do fresh burgers and I use market ground from Publix. They grind it in store, daily and use only steak trimmings

Costco patties are a nice time saver that are pretty good and can go on the grill frozen

I was really impressed by the frozen!
@@thehungryhussey I have teenagers in the house so it great for them as well having frozen is a good option for them but I do love a fresh burger

I still didn't want something to skew the texture since mayo has fat in it. The dryness could have been masked some if used mayo.

Fresh burgers as much as possible. However there is a place for frozen. Have you ever had mustard pickles? They're good.
