- We left our sailboat
We have been back and forth to the airport over the past couple of weeks as everyone abandons ship. Sailing is on hold as we leave our sailboat to go in different ways for a visa run. Declan has left for Australia to see his girlfriend Chanelle, Ivan and I are off to Malaysia and the Cameron Highlands in search of the worlds biggest flower, Rafflesia and Rob, well he had to stay in Phuket on our floating home to look after our cat Mocha but he'll be off to New Zealand on our return.

BACK STORY
In 1997, after rowing at the Atlanta Olympics, Rob rowed a tiny 7m (22 foot) plywood boat 2,500 miles from Tenerife (Canary Islands) to Barbados (Caribbean). It took six weeks for Rob and rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, to complete winning the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race.
Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and his wife Rachel purchased Javelot, a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, We set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know their boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn (then 13), Declan (then 11) and Ivan (then 8), in tow. Through trial and error we have become confident wayfarers, kind of.
The plan? To sail around the world.
Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we hope to retrace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. www.brothernumberone.co.nz

My favourite bit of B roll in this episode is the shot of the calm water with the clouds on the horizon. What's yours?

This one i have to answer, it’s a most, the best part to me is You Rachel in the photo with Ivan and the flower with the smile to be precise minute 11:18 i modificate my comment to add the minute 👍👊⚡️
@delizcas76 actually, yes that is a cracker. It's such a crazy looking flower and to think it's carnivorous.
It's hard to decide! All the climbing was nice and very interesting, but also the calm water... nice, diferent vlog!
So prehistoric looking.
It's like something out of wily wonker
Mums date with Ivan looked way more fun than dads date with the kitty.
Haha, yeah, I got the raw deal on that one.
Indeed cater whaling is one of the most obnoxious noises a cat makes. Poor Dad !!
@@timmitchell8784 "Caterwauling. To cry or screech like a cat in heat." Wow, I didn't know that's where the term comes from.
IVANI IS A BEAUTIFUL SOUL AND I LOVE HIM !
Thanks guys!
Aww, poor Mocha. 😆
It was painful to listen to her.
I LOVE IVAN
What a wonderful experience! That flower looks like an alien but, it is weirdly beautiful! Poor Mocha, she'll be miserable until she gets fixed. I don't miss the constant menstrual meowing at all! I only have male cats now, because of it. I learned early on that female cats, and dogs, can be rough to raise until they're fixed.
I totally enjoyed this video and love how you respect and embrace different cultures! Wish More people ( Americans)would be open to other cultures! There is beauty to be found in every culture, my opinion!
Ah Rob. I remember when my, supposedly male, kitten got in heat. Emergency trip to the vet! Luckily I had given her a name that could be a boy or a girl. I wasn't convinced. Those giant flowers are, amazing. You'd have to be careful not to fall in. I loved how Ivan had to move closer to his cake!
Oh dear me Owen, that would have been quite a surprise.
Cake has that effect on hamill genes.
@@TheCruisingKiwis yes. It took me a few minutes to figure out why the house was suddenly crawling with tomcats. I was frantically chucking them out the door while Titch was on top of the wardrobe being a flirty little tramp!
@@owenpotter2459😂
Thank U, Rachel, 4 taking us 2 see the Corpse Flowers! Your new haircut looks good on you. Safe travels ❤
Thank you
Beautiful. I hope that they can spare the flower. I also hope that Kitty is happy soon..
I hope so too.
What an interesting mother/son adventure
All good fun
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your story!!
Thank you for bringing this beautiful flower to our attention and the importance of preserving these worldly treasures!
lol… poor Rob! What a man!
That flower is stunning.
That flamin' cat was painful to listen to.
ALWAYS happy to see Rafflesia!
And while I was watching you folks eating fresh strawberries, I was actually eating a heap of fresh boysenberries AND new cherries. And no I don't share. Missing was cream. Thanks for the upload. Atb from Aotearoa.
Thanks Bryan. Nom nom
Like always beautiful video. Hope all is well with you.
Thank you, yes
Ivan, I felt for you and glad you got your relief when you did. Your trek into the jungle was quite interesting and I am glad you found your flower. Poor Mocha but poor Dad having to listen to her crying. Take care all and I look forward to your next video.
Glad you enjoyed it JC.
That flew by, just a short one this week. That flower looks incredible.
Thanks pumpkin. A willy wonker lookalike

that was fun! You guys always do a great job with the video. Feel like I’m there most of the time and then I wake up sitting in my chair at home. The dogs all had a good runaround when the cat was meowing on the boat. Thank you for always having a great video. Looking forward to next time.
Mark, I was thinking the same thing about 🐕's reactions. And the 👍🏼great video and sharing with us all - THANKS 🙋
Are you saying that the channel is a cure for insomnia Mark?😂
what I was trying to say is I get so entranced with the video I feel like I’m there alongside of you with all of your activities. And then all of a sudden I have to get back to reality and unfortunately I’m really still sitting here in my chair. I wish I was there that would be fun.

Great video, understand your interest in that flower, looked like neat jungle too.
CONGRATULATIONS ON FINALLY REACHING 20k Subs!!! Whooohooooo!
Yet more inching and creeping to our destination Louren. Hope all are well.
WONDERFUL I ADMIRE YOU BOTH AND YOUR ENERGY AND ENDURANCE
Thank you Joe. Listening to that cat all day was enduro bar none😊
Ah cream on top of the jam - well done!!!!!
Is there any other way to have it?😊
Great video, enjoyed it from start to finish!
❤ from 🇨🇦
Great to see different places and a trip with Rachel and Ivan, love the photo with the flower.
Never knew you could get albino strawberry!!
Yeah that strawberry 🍓 was a discovery for us too.
Certain shots of the flower were otherworldly -- and the Cameron flower was much more than twice the size of the Tian flower, three or four times larger! N.b.: I feel for Mocha and Rob in equal measure. Best regards.
To think it's a carnivorous flower 🌼 is fascinating and mildly disturbing.
I love the story arc of looking for the huge flower
It's was a nice adventure
Hey guys, another great video. Your trip to the mountains looks really interesting. Those flowers are amazing!!
Poor Rob, stuck on the boat.....boat jobs?
Thanks for a great video guys! 👍
Thank you Mick
That flower is huge. It's cool that you got to see them. I wish all of you Happy Holidays and all the best in the new year. Safe travels and fair winds. :)
Thanks Jon and same to you and yours!
Yeah, happy holidays, safe journey and good winds!
I enjoyed ALL your coverage in Malaysia! So beautiful.
Thank you so much Tony.
Another interesting episode. Poor Rob on his own with Mocha. It looked like a huge hike to see that beautiful and rare flower. Happy Christmas to you all wherever you might be. Keep well and safe. James.
Thanks James merry Christmas
Such an awesome adventure. Those flowers are incredible. Loved this episode. Wish you could get the million missing subscribers back. Can't wait for the next one.
Hmmm yes now where did this subs go. I'll keep searching...
Great video, interesting trip to Highlands. Thank you for taking us along.
Glad you enjoyed it
Scones Jam N Cream. Heck yeah.
Oh yeah you got that right
My bladder's permantly damaged from traveling on buses in SE Asia. I don't know how they do it. Nappies for me next time. Of course Declan was bound to return to his new home land of Australia. (cos home is where the heart is) Thanks for the nice and lighter episode. Good to see everyone getting about. Seasons Greetings. It's strange in other countries this time of year like xmas is just a rumour unless you go into a larger shopping centre. Kiora kiwis
Poor Ivan may have done some damage too. Hope not. Merry Christmas
Wow, Rachel that was a huge excursion🌺🫖🍓.. well done Ivan for “holding on “😱.. 🤦♀️🔪🐈poor Rob..✈️all the best Declan 🇦🇺
Rob got the rough end of the deal on this one.
Ivan's walking down the isle of the bus like hurry up I'm busting lol. Have a good trip to Australia 🇦🇺 to visit your lady Declan. Happy Christmas 🎄 and a safe new year to all you folk's, stay safe.
Thank you and merry Christmas to you too!
Very nice video. Those plants you are so thrilled about are different. I guess they only grow in that part of SE Asia. As on the danger list of survival I am surprised the governments there don't protect them.
Wow it only seems like last month you had Mocha. And now she's in heat scream like a Banchi. Hope Rob can sleep at night. Enjoy your visa run and catch you next video
Thank you Jonathan. That cat has been painful to listen to
Love the video! Well done on the editing so cool!
What an incredible flower, hope it can be saved, you and Ivan seem to have had a great time on this trek, how lucky you both are to have the family that y'all have, hope Declan is doing well and Poor Rob with the cat. So, my big question is, how is Finn doing, how are his lungs, I really hope and pray that there will be no long- term damage from the blackout. I do so enjoy all of your videos. Enjoy it all. I have COPD and am on oxygen 24/7 so I know just how important good healthy lungs are.
Oh David, I'm sorry to read about your plight. Wishing you all the best. Finn is coming along well.
⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵
The video ended too quickly.....I love your adventures and get so immersed, time flies by...Merry Christmas to you all.
Thank you! You too!
Lucky mom, Ivan seems like such good company. Love the smell of jungle.
He always is.
Great episode! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
Same to you!
Merci de votre video , enfin 20 mille abonnés, cap sur 50 mille , bonne fetes de f8n d’annee a tous
Merci beaucoup
Nice episode, I love that flower, so special to witness it, maybe one day it will sadly be gone. What are you doing for cat litter on the boat, have you trained her to use the toilet?
We hope the government will intervene to save the forest and its wonders.
Nice to see that you got to explore away from your home (vessel). You mean you left Rob alone and with a feline in heat!!!!! Oooohhh i cringe to think of the conditions you will be coming back to (LOL hahahahahha, just teasing). Yes, that is a remarkable flower and did i understand correctly, it consumes flies? Stay well...... Jim
Yes it is a carnivorous plant, so stay clear😉 That flamin' cat whined night and day. Complete pain
.
What an exciting episode! It's always fun to see the different adventures you all have on your sailboat. Happy holidays to all of you, and may the new year bring safe travels and fair winds! :)
Thanks team! Merry Christmas to you and yours.
I think it's " drank tea " not " drunk tea ". I'm not an English professor.😊 thanks for sharing. See you next week.
Me thinks your England is tres good. 😊
I won't say i told you so about Macha going into heat 😉 I've been there with my kitties in the past. Love the video guys.
We were one week too late in getting her the op.
I scrolled through the comments and I haven’t noticed anyone giving Ivan the praise he’s due for being his mother’s escort so she can go view a stinky giant flower - what a trooper.
😆👍
I'd like to see that flower used in a bridal bouquet.
Haha 😄 good call
The flower 🔝
The place incredible
Glad you all are doing good ✅
Greetings
Thank you very much
What a great day out , that Copse flower is Ginormous i bet the environmental effects of it being eradicated by human movement will be felt its basically a natural Fly trap we need those here in Australia in summer bloody flies everywhere at christmas day lunch. Anyway was that mocha whining like all the time on heat ? It would of been hell for Rob calming her down and getting some peaceful sleep and did Declan pick his timing well as Cairns and Port Douglas just got thru Cyclone Jasper he would in the thick of it waiting for his misadventures of his own to tell including the aftermath.
It would be tragic of the world lost this amazing flower. Declan is in the midst of flood as I write and yes that flamin' cat whined night and day.
Another great fun video, nice. We see 2 hairstyles, I guess a haircut happened between edits 😅 Looks good though, cool and neat.
I think Rachel may have tied her hair at some point. No cut though.
At 4:35 it certainly looks like a short hairstyle. Anyway, happy to be corrected. May I take this opportunity from Kuala Lumpur, to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for a very safe, happy, healthy & prosperous 2024. Keep the great videos coming.@@TheCruisingKiwis
My Swiss FBfriend has been in Cameron Highlands..- I reposted this to him
I hope it triggers good memories.
Rob and Mocca.. we got a thing going on... 😅
A complete pain in ass thing going on.
Posted on your behalf.. I actually forgot last week..
Thanks heaps Trev
11:00 my mother was obsessed w those for a while, as a cancer (& everything else) cure. & i had to have shots of a ground up tincture of them - which tasted as it smells - before school. cancer free tho! (but i already was, so.) _JC
For real JC? I didn't realise the flower has medicinal properties.
For real JC? I didn't realise the flower has medicinal properties.
hey Ivan and Declan and mom. I have to say this is a really good video . i cant stream it in 4k but the image quality is so crispy. do you mind if i ask what kind of camera and lense you have ? i can believe you are in cameron islands... thats basically the jungle. How do you do to get internet in the boat? do you get internet via satellite ivan or you wait until you are in an island?
hope to hear back from you ivan. and merry chjristmas .
Best check in with Kiwi Boys to hear direct from Ivan. A standard Canon nothing fancy. Go pro for bush trek. And drone.
you have a vlog when did this happen
Yes we do have a vlog. Why do you ask?
Hey you guys stop that i just put on a kilo watching ivan eat chocolate cake LOL
😃
8:47 are they impossible to germinate? I ask because i swear there is one in the botanical Gardens Perth Australia..
Not what i was thinking of..
but
ua-cam.com/video/7wTvqMkOPqY/v-deo.htmlsi=xM7GvosaBELzukTJ
Apparently so.
Yeah that is very different. Our neighbour has one of those which fascinated the boys.
:)
Those flowers avoid human activity naturally.
Who was holding the camera when you kept filming that fellow hiker lady’s butt?
😋that would be me Rachel, I wasn't actually focusing on her butt, more the jungle walk and the water pipes but yes her butt features prominently in the frame.
*this makes me want to **-like-** visit my mom.* is just me that thinks it is a lil suspect rob go thru all this to get the boat to himself? hey, not trying to cause trouble, just. hey. none of my business. lota hot slxts [ENTER LOCATION] whr the boat is parked is all. _JC
No, nothing untoward. Someone had to look after that flamin' kitten, now cat.
