  • This episode is as close as it gets to traveling in history! We get a glimpse inside another lifestyle in one of the worlds most remote villages and go aboard a Chilean artisanal wooden fishing boat.
    #lifestyle #history #fishing
We take you on an upwind sailing ride through the fjords of Patagonia. Curtis does a how-to trim sails and upwind sailing video talk while underway, revealing his secrets to sail trim and our performance cruiser's actual upwind sailing angles, to help you learn to sail your boat just like us as we tack up the narrow and treacherous fjords against the wind and current. Your sailing catamaran can't do this!
Dreaming of a Christmas in the Caribbean? Dreaming of sailing away from it all? Watch our awsome sailing videos and adventure with us as we sail across oceans and around the world via Cape Horn.
Will we conquer the elements and discover the hidden gem nestled beyond the rugged landscapes? Join us on this heart-pounding bluewater journey filled with challenges, breath-taking scenery, and the triumph of human determination. Set sail with us on our way to one of the most remote villages in the world!
    Contents:
00:00 Intro, Map, and What's Ahead in this documentary style sailing vlog
00:52 Sailing into Puerto Eden harbor, Patagonia's most remote and isolated village
4:32 First steps on land, our first civilation in over 30 days, a tour of the boardwalks of Puerto Eden (there are no roads or cars here)
6:05 Our friends aboard the sailing Catamaran Artemis arrive in port
7:06 Refuelling our boat with more jerry cans of diesel for heat and generating electricity as well as forward motion
8:40 Fishing Boat Tour - We tour an artisanal wooding fishing boat owned and operated by our fishing friends Victor & Veronica! Plus we taste the catch on board, sea urchin (erizo in Spanish) which we eat raw and straight from the sea. Veronica also cooks us a fabulous meal and we share mate's on board their fishing boat and learn how the "Deadliest Catch" fisherman & fisherwomen of Chile live, eat, sleep, and use firewood and a wooden stove to heat their boat.
15:11 Kate teaches a class in the most remote school in Chile!
15:38 A 360 view from the top of the island, we take a walk through the boardwalks in this isolated and remote Chilean village and climb a lookout tower to get a view we will never forget

Living in the UK as I do at the moment, this video has rekindled my faith in the human race. So heartwarming to see such generosity and warmth from strangers, as is so often the case from people who lead relatively simple lives. Materialism seems often to obscure our best qualities.

Just finished watching a slew of your videos. You two are some of the best cruising sailors posting video online! Your boat is rigged much like Hal and Margaret Roth's, but they came to grief on one of the islands near Cape Horn but made it back to Port Williams for difficult repairs. I sailed the Drake in 2005 to Antarctica on a steel sloop. We watched the burgee bits but with a steel hull it was fairly harmless unless they were really big. Thanks for posting, good luck!

That looks like - a rather camera shy - Don Jose filling your diesel. Has he returned from Santiago? Has his restaurant/guest house next to his fuel shed re-opened? What was the cost of the diesel? Did the armada come to you or did you have to go to them? Sorry about all the questions but it will let me update the Pto Eden page on Cruiserswiki.
My boat is still stuck in Algarrobo - new Beta diesel arrives in San Antonio this week so hope to be on the move again in the new year.

Hi Frank! Yes! Don Jose es en la casa! He is open for business. What a wonderful guy! The diesel was approximately 2x the cost on the mainland. Only a radio call was required by the Armada. Thanks for updating Cruiserswiki! It is a wonderful asset to the sailing community! You can find our contact info on our website www.sweetruca.com, we hope your engine is ready soon and we see you down here! Salud!

    • @eduardofaine5414
      @eduardofaine5414 7 місяців тому +2

Hi, in fact the area was settled by Chileans in XIX Century. The names of the islands and channels were given by the different expeditions that charted them, like British, French and Dutch. Since 1843, the Chilean Navy is in charge of surveying, charting and controlling navigation through the fiords.
