    I have monocular vision with no depth perception and also sometimes blend colors. I know apple has a commitment to accessibility, and I’m expecting them to port VoiceOver from the iPad to the Vision. The question is: how will it work? That’s the biggest question for me. When I saw them emphasize Zoom and Microsoft Teams, I thought “this is the next step in genuine computing. Not just games. Not just entertainment. Genuinely general purpose computing” like if it wasn’t so dang pricey and does live up to the promise, I could see many people buying this to replace an iPad. There is so much capability here. I mentioned depth perception. What would be cool is an app that fills in the gaps and acts as a blind-friendly GPS with things like, not just “turn 45 degrees to the west in 50 feet”, but also “in front of you is a 6 inch step up, there is a railing to your right at 3 o clock if you need it”, you know? I am super pumped for this.

    Your excitement is contagious. Throughout the keynote I thought, wait, is this for real? And glad it is! Seeing Meta's vision for it (ex. workspaces) it sounded like it was pretty buggy and the execution wasn't coming to fruition. If they can't do it with all the $ behind it, how will anyone else? And here we are -- as they mentioned, all of the software and hardware from other products (hardware-wise most closely resembling Watch and AirPods Max, but with all of the camera and sensor tech from iPhone) really does come together in this product. The sticker shock is always top of mind, but people said that about Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR, but soon realize that it's for.... the Pros! Developers have a challenge to pump out their apps quickly ("early next year" will be here soon enough), but if they're excited like you are, they will create apps that will enable the platform to be successful.

They even said to get a PS or Xbox controller for Apple Arcade! The Vision Pro 1.0 is high end, but the value is terrible now. There’s nothing stopping Apple from dropping the price $1,000 right after you buy it. Apple dropped the price of the first iPhone 33% ($600 to $400) a few months after release.

      My timeline for the Vision lineup is:
      2024 - release
      2025 - realityOS 2 (fixing some of the teething issues in the software, making everything nicer).
      2026 - slightly cheaper Vision Pro 2 with M3/M4 and R2, 3-4 hours of battery life, battery mostly still external but maybe a small internal battery for up to 30 minutes unplugged. This one will likely release in more countries than the US, assuming the original hasn’t previously.
      2027 - Vision Pro 3 with M4/M5, R3 and 5 or 6 hours of battery life (battery still external) plus Vision Air which has an A20 + R3 and an internal battery, about 3 hours of battery life, but with the option to add an external battery for even more. I think by this point the Vision Air could be as low as $2,000 and the Vision Pro will stay around $2500-3000.

      You just made an amazing point that I didn’t even think of. I’ve been considering van life, but desk space for the kind of setup that I’d want is expensive, and I’d say a $3500 headset is totally worth saving the space and the monitor. Not to mention, watching movies would be next level as well, never feeling like you’re missing out on having a large TV. This is incredibly exciting. Not to mention, a lot of the other stuff is already extremely exciting regardless of the space available to me haha

The reviews seem to think the 3D cameras are a bit weird but I think being able to share the experience of visiting really cool places with friends & family would be absolutely incredible. If it works as well as they say I think it is totally worth $3500.

Did you ask anything to that effect so as to have any information regarding it? That would help try to answer the other question I have in how well desktop on the AVP handles, as being connected to power + data would minimize latency, and on the side I wonder how authentic is it where Apple says you will not need multiple displays with this.

    I’m just reminded of all the groundbreaking products that have come before. And every single time tech reviewers got it wrong. “iPad won’t last, it’s a fad, too heavy”, “$600 iPhone is too expensive”, “iPhone doesn’t have cut and paste… dealbreaker”, “you wouldn’t catch me dead on a subway wearing AirPods”, “Lol people are actually falling for the whole Retina display nonsense”…. I don’t think separate yours traditionally understand disruption. As for the headset, if you don’t work in VR for longer than a day, the headsets could feel heavy.

    Is there an internal battery so we can hot swap the battery packs and it won’t shut down if we accidentally disconnect the MagSafe connection. It’s definitely 6DoF VR right ? Not just 3DoF? Are there haptics on the headset? I know no controllers means no haptics on hands but at least some haptics on headset will provide some haptic feedback when we’re clicking things on screen.

    • @techinrl9869
      @techinrl9869 Рік тому +3

      No need to swap batteries. You’ll notice the battery pack has a USB-C port next to the cable that comes out of it. You plug in the USB-C charger directly into the battery so that you’re powering both the headset while charging the battery. You don’t disconnect the battery at all. It’s also not MagSafe. A magnet would be too weak to hold the charge cable in place, so if you watch the video carefully, you see them insert the round puck into a slot with the cable pointing up. You then do a clockwise quarter turn of the puck to lock it in place where the cable is now pointing backwards.

    The deal breaker for me is the apps & game quality that are compatible with this device. I own a Quest & I had the same excitement when I tested the sample games & immersive tutorial in that device. The quality was so amazing & very realistic. However, upon frequent use I realised that this amazing experience & awesome visual quality does not always apply to VR games, apps & videos. For example in UA-cam VR, only a few videos have the impressive quality with the correct ‘sizing’ & angle. Even in Games, only a few have the real immersive experience like ‘The room’, Plank experience’ & ‘Beat Saber’… majority of games are clunky, causes motion sickness & blurry (despite connecting my VR to computer-- it improved the quality a little but still not that satisfying). I’ve also been active to VR worlds & although it was an enjoyable & unique experience, the clunkiness got tiring eventually.
    Having said that, VR world has a lot of potential. I have attended VR lectures, talent shows , variety shows & went to comedy bars & it was fun. If Apple or any VR world creators can make an improved VR world in the future, maybe I’ll give it a try again.
    Even if you have the most amazing high functional VR headset, if the apps, games & videos cannot keep up with the same high quality, then that VR headset will get boring over time.

      @XOZBeaTz Рік тому +1

      I was thinking the same thing. I’m not sure you noticed this but it seems to me that Apple was advertising this to developers to create apps for it so there can actually be a market for Apple VR. If this had came out back in 2017, wow it would have been a mind blown thing, but as everything you had mentioned above with Meta Quest use, what’s so good about a device that has all these qualities when third parties apps can’t match it. I see a lot of positives in this but the pricing is a turn off just because why would I spend $3000 more for a device that I can get out of with a $500 device without the quality?

      @wingcharm Рік тому

      @@thebuddercweeper But it still has a VR component. Plus Meta has been mentioned before that the next Quest’s feature will be AR & I bet other competitors are now into AR as well. So there’s really nothing special about this Apple feature except maybe the aesthetic design of the product. If the apps & games compatible with this Apple Vision can stay on par with the visual quality of the said demos, then this device will really stand out. Any Tech demos will always be impressive because the sample media have been created to be high quality & formatted into its highest visually appealing structure. Unfortunately, a lot of 3rd party apps & games does not maximise the device potential because they underperforms.

    • @thebuddercweeper
      @thebuddercweeper Рік тому

      @@wingcharm I don’t think you’re really getting what the Vision Pro actually *is*. VR appears to be less than 10% of what it does, it’s really just a way of taking away distractions, the device’s primary purpose is AR.
      1. The majority of apps for Vision Pro will likely just be adapted iPhone, iPad and Mac apps that take advantage of not being constrained by a small screen, this is a productivity and media consumption device, unlike VR headsets, it isn’t for gaming, so your concerns don’t really apply.
      2. Pretty much every app (because of the aforementioned) will be using Apple’s frameworks, so they will function in the exact same way as the ones shown.
      This is not a case of the app taking over your whole fov and having you play a game, this is a case of simply placing a screen or an object in the world.
      Also, the Vision Pro *is* special. I would be willing to bet that the AR in the next facebook headset will be mediocre at best, mostly a gimmick and/or just a side feature, an add on to the existing device. The Vision Pro is so far ahead of *any* other AR device in the industry you just can’t compare it.

    • @wingcharm
      @wingcharm Рік тому

      @@thebuddercweeper That’s why I said if AR is the only main feature of this Apple Vision Pro, then I don’t see the hype when most of the other competitor devices are catering both AR & VR plus games. The only deal breaker is if the Apple Vision Pro can have apps that will exclusively be outstanding from the rest of the competitor apps. Because if it is simply just having a bigscreen & pasting stuff to the real world, it’s nothing much special because other competitor devices can do that as well.
