  • Aztec and Mesoamerican culture is brimming with iconic and wonderous deities, but this plumed serpent is often considered to be at the forefront. A perfect blend of bird and rattlesnake, this god of the winds and rain, was later depicted in human form, kitted out in the highest quality bling and accessories and, just to top off the importance of this ruler, he is also considered to be the creator of the world and humanity following a cunning escape from the underworld #aztecs #quetzalcoatl #mythology

Even though it’s depicted as a feathered serpent, I call it a dragon

Quetz as I am shortening the name to is an interesting one indeed.
His "feathered serpent" design reminds me of asian dragons... along with his connection to the elements.
Black being North is the same as Genbu being the Black Warrior/Black Tortoise of the north in that story... tho I believe most other colors do not quite match.
Its actually kinda crazy how much Asian and Native North/central/south American groups share in one aspect or another among their respective mythose. I mean how much influence was there that history failed to record properly?
Quetz tho also brings up the Na-va-ho (forget the actual spelling) creation myth factor of "ages". The Native American version heavily paraphrased goes something like this...
"At first we were a people of the 1st world. Cataclysm happens and we begin search for our new home. The second world was inhospitable but in an attempt to adapt we were changed. In the third world we gained bodies as we know them today. In the fourth world we came across woman and there we settled..."
Do not quote me on it but I did not feel like reading the 5ish pages of the myth again so that might be horribly inaccurate. The point is that the journey made humanity what it is today; in that respect it made me think of Adam and Eve goes planet/dimension hoping until our current one. But yes it is fact that women showed up after humanity was made and were a separate species until by coexisting the species blended into what we know today.
Rather wild. But like all creation myths across the planet the strangest part of all is how they are the same vs how they differ.
I was looking into a story idea of combining Chinese and Native American mythose into one and using that as a basis for a story similar to "Full Metal Alchemist" where there are Sins and virtues incarnated so an individual can attempt to be more pure "themselves" and less relatable to the common person.
Learning of this creation myth (Na-va-ho) and the Chinese directional critters+the Kirin at the center was weirdly a better fit than I first thought. So hearing of Quetz's story today made it feel even more cohesive.
I really do have to many stories started... I like the idea of "Myth person" vs 1st person or 3rd person perspectives. As in posing the story whatever it may actually be as a Myth. Something that does not have to follow current logic or scientific fact but operates as its own version of things. Not saying myths are false by nature, but rather if Icarus literally flew into the sun on wax wings then logically Daedolus was a total dumbass when it came to airplane design and engineering. Using wax of all things (known to melt) for something that gets you closer to the sun. Myth perspective works better because science does not have to apply as we know it.
I mean how often is clay used to make mankind... yet looking at the colors of clay available... I am not sure it makes sense for each groups skin color that used it... personally I think of clay as that grayish brown when wet to an oddly yellow/green/gray/brown combo as it drys. So not really matching any peoples I can think of. yet Asia and North America had it as a basis some times.

Great insight as always. It is interesting to see how mythologies are inspired by others.

@@pantheonmythology Think about it from the stand point of all mythologies are true and the overlap is just cultures changing names type of thing.
As unlikely as it is that Earth had magic and monsters until one day poof it didn't... it makes me look for connections and try to formulate a grand timeline that connects the full mess. By no means do I have a cohesive idea of it but, to me that's part of the fun of learning more myths.
I mean speak poetic enough about modern tech to the post apocalyptic dark age people and see if its believed that one persons heart can be used in another persons body or that we made it to the stars (limited as our space travel is). Hell we'd be lucky if they understood Leave it to Beaver and Mr. Ed were fiction and not fact.
Because more than any other truth "Time leaves everything behind eventually" holds true with the phantastic and obscur.
Just because Heracles did the 12 trials does not mean we of the modern mind actually know what exactly the Hydra or Lion were; we are not there so we are not sure how we might describe it different.
Dragons in truth being evolved dinos that could not sustain their own races numbers because... humans is understandable. Them breathing flame is possible; and in turn due to the nature of buoyancy and flammable gases they might even of been able to fly and be ridiculously big. Needing to hold breaths to remain Blimp like means that underwater travel may have even been sustainable for long times. Lots of greenhouse gases are flammable so the possibility of weather manipulation may even be true. Even if all those things are true. The conversations and interactions may not have been. Afterall its a big reptile; They may have had brains capable of speech but whether or not they had a culture to talk with humans is unknown.
In the end all Dragon or serpent creature myths could be true; but recorded to poetic to be trustworthy. After all if its an extinct species that weirdly decayed fast or something bizarre like that; we modern people could never know. Modern people take evidence for granted thinking that it has to exist to prove a story true.
If such were in fact true then the debate about dino's having feathers would never need to be proven or not in the first place.
Sorry if this seems to have lost a point. The point being is "when" is less tested than "if" it feels when it comes to monsters and magic. The way I see things we keep putting the cargo before the horse before realizing that the cart was forgotten.
Quetz being a "dragon" as I described earlier is possible I think.

All very good points. I think that's why mythology is so interesting because we can't know for sure what really happened back then outside of what has been passed down. I'm sure many pieces of what we know has been diluted through the ages!

@@pantheonmythology Not meanning to be offensive, if you find this offensive.
But I think Jesus and other savior/meshiah types are the best example of this.
Theres no doubting their moral stand points in the sense they were diffently better than a average joe to get the lip service they do.
But I have always questioned how accurate those sdepictions were because... if the modern age has taught nothing else then its a fact that writing lies and corrupting perspectives is really easy if someone has motive to consider doing so. In the case of Mesiah types the payoff is fanatics willing to martyr themselves for anything you may ask.
So yes I believe Buhda and Jesus and such were exceptional people better than those around them. but the real question is "What am I not learning?" the spaces between the lines and behind the pages and within the code of what is known.
Some of what looking for patterns can enlighten for a person.

No offense caused at all. I'm not a religious person at all, although I do respect those that are. I just find mythology fascinating! I do agree with you. Propaganda has been around for centuries so I'm sure the tales that have been down through the ages certainly has the potential to have been been manipulated by agenda's and motives as you say.

Interesting corelations that I am seeing. Biblically, both Yahoshua and ha'shatan are depicted as serpents. ha'shatan is depicted as a serpent in Genesis and Revelation, and Yahosua is pictured as a serpent first in the Exodus and then in the Gospels. Everything was made by Yahoshua, just as everything was made through Quetzalcoatl. In Biblical Hebrew, all of the heavenly beings were known as Elohim (gods or "sons of god). So ha'shatan or if I'm correct in the correlation: tezcatlipoca, would be considered a "son of God," while Yahoshua was the only Begotten Son. Genesis teaches that there is enmity between the seed of the woman (Women don't have seed, therefore most likely a virgin birth prophecy, would be at enmity with the serpent's seed. Ancient Hebrews and many modern Jews speak of there being three falling aways, not just the one that most Christians think of. There was the first fall in the garden, where both mankind and ha'shatan first rebelled against Yah/God. Then there was the mixing of human and heavenly dna, resulting in the Nephilim giants of Genesis 6, and other parts of the Bible, then really brought up in 1 Enoch and the Book of the Giants. That was the second falling away, which led to the flood. Then after the flood there was the rebellion of the tower of Babel. This would be three "suns" not 4, making us in the 4th now, not the 5th. Unless the rebellion of Yah's chosen people that led to the diaspora of the people of Yah could be considered another falling away, putting us in the 5th.
Ehecatl-Quetzalcoatl is how he is sometimes referred to. Ehecatl meaning wind. Well Ruach in Hebrew means both "Spirit" and "Wind," and the Holy Spirit/Wind (Ruach Ha'Kodesh) descended upon Yahoshua in the form of a dove and then remained with Him for the rest of His ministry. I could easily see how both the feathered and the wind aspect of Ehecatl-Quetzalcoatl would be in reference to Him being filled and led by Ruach Ha'Kodesh. Other videos I have watched about Quetzalcoatl teach that he was born of a virgin, crucified on a cross, rose again, returned up to the Father, and is coming back again.
"22 Sha’ul stood up in the Council meeting and said, “Men of Athens: I see how very religious you are in every way! 23 For as I was walking around, looking at your shrines, I even found an altar which had been inscribed, ‘To An Unknown God.’ So, the one whom you are already worshipping in ignorance - this is the one I proclaim to you. 24 “The God who made the universe and everything in it, and who is Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in man-made temples; 25 nor is he served by human hands, as if he lacked something; since it is he himself who gives life and breath and everything to everyone. 26 “From one man he made every nation living on the entire surface of the earth, and he fixed the limits of their territories and the periods when they would flourish. 27 God did this so that people would look for him and perhaps reach out and find him although in fact, he is not far from each one of us, 28 ‘for in him we live and move and exist.’ Indeed, as some of the poets among you have said, ‘We are actually his children.’ 29 So, since we are children of God, we shouldn’t suppose that God’s essence resembles gold, silver or stone shaped by human technique and imagination." Acts 17:22-29
