Jose Francisco Medeiros and europeans brought disease and genocide wars to the americas. Up to 90% of the precolumbian population was killed off through disease, exploitation, and warfare. Central mexico had a population of over 30 million before the conquest, it would not reach that again until the 20th century. Even up to the kate 19th century people were hunting down natives in California wiping out entire tribes.
@Jose Francisco Medeiros If your going to speak about ancient sacred history make sure you do a complete analysis and study before you comment. First virgins were never a prize like they were in Europe, 2nd cannibalism was very rare and only done on special occasions, 3rd slaves in Aztec times were much more better treated then in Europe, 4th... 250,000 slaves is a load of horse manure. You know nothing... because of the European invasion nearly 100 million Native Americans were killed. So where is a similar number found in Aztec history?
You guys are sick, I'm glad this religion didn't expand across the world. We would be having human sacrifices and other disgusting stuff today if it lived. Nobody is saying that Europeans didn't do anything wrong, we know that. But you have to stop acting like the Aztecs never did anything, they sacrificed and murdered anyone that wasn't Aztec, they acted just like Europeans, conquering and pillaging village after village. They sacrificed so much people that it was one of the reasons for the collapse of their Empire. Unlike you people, we aren't ones saying that human sacrifice is a good thing.
@@olympia5758 This religion still exists and it's being teached to native youth today. Aztec Philosophy was based on science, Aztec religion was on the path that was moving away from Gods. In Mesoamerica human sacrifice was common thing and everyone was doing it, nobody was new to it. People who were captured in battle knew what was expected of them.
I just realized humanity is literally the four directions colors. Europeans are the North, Asians are the east, Africans are the south, and Americans are the west. White, yellow, black and red.
Thank you! Although I am quite confused. This is a different version of the creation myth that i've heard from my mexican teacher as well as other documentaries. At least for the aztecs/mexica. I guess it's possible that versions differ from where it was taken or which communities they refer to. I might also be mistaken, if Mexico here is named for the country rather than the city, it might make more sense since I didn't hear any mention of Coalitcue and Huitzelapochli.
They all represent the technologies in the underworld that create and move luminaries and are pretty much responsible for what we call "nature", man has lied about the shape of this world and how it really works, to hide this knowledge and steal it.
I have investigate the Aztec mythology for the past 2 years, (still researching about it) some part of the story is not how its really told, for example like the four Tezcatlipocas, they mentioned the wrong ones, Irz actually Huitzilopochtli the blue tezcatlipoca, also known as the humming bird of the south, and Mictalntecuhtli isn't one of them and they also forgot to mention about cipactli, a monster that was a clue to create the world (according to the myth) and the suns arent really in order, its first Tezcatlipoca, Quetzalcoatl, Tlaloc, Chalchiuhtlicue and last is Huitzilopochtli or Tonatiuh (depending which version of the myth is) and about how the suns changed, its more complicated than how it is explained, but yeah certain things are different but i still like how they made it
@@Yolandarlawrence There is many videos that explain this, one as my personal favorite that explains it in the order that it is could be in the channel of Oversarcasticsly Productions which have three videos, The five suns, quetzalcoatl and Huitzilopochtli

This is not the onl film of Patricia Amlin but this film is more beautiful than the movie "Popol Vuh -- Maya Creation Myth". But the Tezcatlpòcas are so crazies! They could say, "Sorry, Mr. Nanahuatl, but you must do your job without having blood in exchange." But no, they had to say, "Yes, we must die!" .... :| But whatever is a very epic film! Ehi Patricia Amlin, you're a talented film director
This is some draw dropping stuff its all so beautiful, who or what destroyed all of this. Im only learning about this in my 30s. It's interesting how in the past spirituality encompassed women and men. Religion almost disregards woman entirely. Everything on this planet has a partner and we see this, as they create this world and the story together.
Huitzilipochtli wasnt raised to such stature until after the Mexica hegemony of the valley of mexico. Remember that the Mexica were recent post classic newcomers into the Valley, other nahuatl people, Oto-Manguean and mesoamerican peoples existed in the valley and central region of mexico many hundreds of years before the Mexica progeny even existed.
Every mythology has a different interpretation. I’ve read stories where tlaloc was the third sun and his sister Chalchiuitlicue was the fourth sun and the reason that work ended was because tezcatlipoca told her she sucked and she cried blood, Turning the people into fish. Different stories from different tribes and parts of the Aztec empire makeup the mythology.
Thing with all of this is most people process this with the format of most "religions" hells heavens Gods this is far from that once you lose that mentally this will be clearer. The Europeans could not understand it, so much of this is turn into a format they know. The Mexica did not pray to no "god" they respect and honors aspect of the creator that where visible (wind-Quetzacoatl,rain-Tlaloc)and gave them images and names to honor and respect.

I sometimes wonder if the 5 suns is a story showing the 5 layers of atmosphere acting as dynodes in a model of earth similar to a PMT or electron multiplier. The sun rotates 5 speeds and I wonder if our moon shows where we're At in this scale. Close to the equator right now possibly which may be an alignment to propel the magnified light.
NOPE, it is a partial allegoric true account of human history on Earth. The Sun we have was NOT there before, planet Saturn was once our sun, much dimmer, would not burn and no days, always dim light.
I'm a little confused could someone help me answer a few of my questions. 1.)They view the "God's" as natural phenomenons rather than some divine deity? If so, is it even called a mythology or is it something else? 2.) This question is more like the chicken and the egg. Did they come up with a "god" after discovering the natural phenomenon or did they have a "God" and added more things they ruled over as they discovered new natural phenomenons? 3.)If the Aztecs don't believe in a concept of a god or goddesses that have power of whatever the hell it is they had the power to do but rather a natural occrying thing why did they even come up with them let alone worship them? Is it to help kids at a young age have a better understanding of the world but if thats the case then why build temples or shrine or preform sacrifices or ceremonies? 4.) More of a personal question but still. Does anyone know any good books that talk about Meso American civilization and gods, and where to find them?
They didn't have the context of a "God" they were all "spirits" representing some things. The mesoamerican civs had very similar deitys, the Mayans had their own version of Quetzalcoatl called Kukulkan the Teotihuacan people had some similar too... Some of the "gods" have been worshipped by multiple people at different times for different reasons. Thus i don't really know how they came up with their meaning of each things so I'mma stop right here.
1) They're divine, but human at the same time from what I observe. They make mistakes and the mistakes lead to interesting outcomes. It's a mythology because it is a religion people believe in, but isn't scientifically true. The sun isn't a living creature floating around the earth, it's a ball of gas in one place with the earth going around it. That's the only difference between myth and reality really. 2) I don't know. I don't think anyone can really tell what causes religions to form, but it might be due to traumatic or impacting experiences people had. Maybe someone discovered they could farm corn, and wrote it down as a religious like experience for them to harvest the corn. For early humans harvesting a crop they planted might've seemed magical and sacred in some way. I don't think the aztec gods rule over anything, they kinda just do what they want and try to keep the humans alive when they get the chance. They have abilities like wind, fire, and stuff, but I don't think it means they control all aspects of it entirely. 3)Some of the stories are to teach kids about astronomy, history, and morals in a fun entertaining way using their religious figures. I think that's why too aztec stories are a lot more fun and silly than other religions since it's mainly to be told to kids during a school setting using puppets. Like any culture they had traditions and religions too, so it makes sense they would worship and do rituals with their gods. There's a big emphasis on the importance of taking care of pregnant women, warriors, and the disfigured. Not to mention how all of the gods gathered to give the disfigured one the highest ranking amongst them. It's kinda like keeping village morals in a way. You put all your effort into caring for the pregnant, the injured, and the ill before caring for the well built, and in the likely event one of the sacred dies they gather for a ritual to wish their loved ones farewell. A modern day example of this many probably don't even think about is funerals. Why do we host funerals if no direct worship is occurring? Little rituals to say goodbye to someone and honor them basically. 4)Here on youtube theres a cartoon series called "No Evil" that covers many of the aztec stories in a cute way. You can probably find some online somewhere, but like you I have difficulty finding them. What I do find is usually a native american retelling a story they heard a shaman tell at a village meeting.
They represent the technologies in the underworld that create and move luminaries and are pretty much responsible for most of nature itself, man has lied about everything to hide and steal this knowledge.
It is probably some type of cultural thing from the Aztecs lost to time, my guess would be he’s trying to be very genuine so he’s taking off something that hides his face which is a vector for emotion
Very interesting that in this version the Turkey people eat corn but in another, marsh reed. Anyone with relevant information would be greatly appreciated!
Im gonna be honest this has many in accuracy’s but the animation itself is good and so is the beautiful imagery and the voices are very good especially Mictlantecuhtli voice and it does gets some things right
@@myboy_ well the man is a god of war, but he’s noted as being very heroic for the Mexica well as heroic as an Aztec god can get when you forget the blood sacrifice, now Tezcatlipoca was done right fucker is very chaotic
Yes, but now days we know that the Black Tezcatlipoca was the first born, Quetzalcoatl is actually the White Tezcatlipoca, then Xipe Totec was born, lastly Huitzilopochtli, Wich was the union of Ometeotl transformed into a hummingbird and Coatlicue, who took one of his feathers and put it in her stomach to save it, disappearing and having Huitzilopochtli later, the "gods" can reborn and reincarnate, so most of them has had more than one mother, like Quetzalcoatl, what has had like four or five mother's in total counting his human incarnations
The four cardinal directions, unless this video is outdated, which it might be. But this got some wrong unless I got my research wrong, which i doubt since I confirmed it through multiple sources, but north is black Tezcatlipoca, East is Xipe Totec, south is Huitzilopochtli, and west is white Tezcatlipoca.

Being of Mexican origin I know more about Greek Mythology than I do about my own Heritage... pretty sad!!!
Hella sad. But get on it
I said the same thing yesterday.
Is it not great how the "great white man" white-washed history of all people!?!?
They force western idea, theology and religion on us schools. To brain wash into hating ourselves. It’s how they keep us down. Self hate, low self esteem and inferiority complex
That made 7 macaw sad 😢
As a Spanish person studying mesoamerican civilisations, knowing that the inquisition and possibly my ancestors destroyed a great part of their Codexes and knowledge we had of these amazing civilianisations makes my blood boil
Ty for those kind words. To conquer is to destroy the past to start anew.
It's infuriating. Just remember you didn't do it, and you clearly wouldn't. I think we need find the ways in which we benefit from that historical conquest and the current oppression of non-European peoples and work to support and respect their struggles for liberation.
It should. The history of the ancient world is everyone's history.
@RayyanKesnan There's a way, but Spain will never do it. Return what was stolen and damaged in cash. That's about all they could do. The damage is done, and now the Spaniards bear the responsibility of their ancestors.
@East10Outpost Mesoamerican History belongs to Mesoamerica. The rest of humanity just share a once common origin. 200-300,000 years ago. So don't get cute and say it's all humanities.
Masterful documentary as a practitioner of the quiche Maya calendar, the dreamspell and the Baltic cycle calendar I find the applications immense.
It saddens me so little is known, all the knowledge and past burned along with their codex and library collections
Such a cool production. Such rich and creative culture!
Wow finally QUETZALCOATL is translated correctly as PRECIOUS SERPENT NOT FEATHERED SERPENT!!!! I LOVE THIS IM SO HAPPY I FOUND THIS VIDEO
Yea but she said it wrong because the “l” at the end is silent
Quetzalli meant both feathered and precious they werent mutually exclusive meanings
This was awesome. I love hearing about Mexico's past.
47:21 This is" huitzilipochtli throwing the rabbit in the sun to make it less brighter, according to Aztecs. The europeans used to say that they see a man's face in the but the aztecs saw a rabbit in the moon."(Great Empires of the Past: The Aztec Empire)
Thank you. Love and light from Tucson Arizona ❤
The proud one got cold feet but the crippled one was steadfast. Only after the crippled one sacrificed himself did the proud one feel shame and jumped into the fire.
It's a beautiful creation story! Love the ending!.... " the sacrifice of our ancestors made life in this 5th creation possible, we have a choice today, we may follow their example and give up ourselves to the continued existence of this 5th sun... this age of movement or we can ignore their sacrifices.... and this creation to, will end."
The Aztecs were far beyond us today we half 2 learn from there lessons even today
Yes. I was at a gathering with Indigenous people of all over the world and they said this
Genuinely insightful.
Americans aren't red 😂 what world do you live in? It's a melting pot of Natives, African, And pale face

Pero que acabo de mirar . Hermoso documental , sin igual . Agradecido a los creadores de esta hermosa obra de arte .
This was hella complex.
The film made an effort to combine the empire's many versions of the myth. The north brought Huitzilopochtli's sun myth. This is a beautiful film
I am amazed at how there are elements of this myth relate to Daoist and Zoroaster elements. Asians see a rabbit on the moon too.

Some of the stories like queztalcoatl at the mountain trying to get the corn, also remind me of Hindu stories about serpents churning nectar out of a mountain 🙏🏽 I fr believe we all must've been more connected in another age
As a Persian it is intriguing to watch other cultures ancient mythology.
The Persian history & mythology (especially before force-Islamization and force-arabization)
is despite the devastating destruction that Islamist colonizers brought over us thankfully well documented.
I was once in Mexico City but didn't have the chance to visit museums and cultural sites.

Notice how Quetzalcoatl and tezcatlipoca are in constant battle from the get go? That’s the perfect representation of how we as Mexicans have been fighting all our lives for what we want !
I can't remember where in Mexico but it had an area to see all three gods. It had the statues protected by stone shelters facing the center and the 4th side has a massive gate but no walls, it was so beautiful. Odly there was a clock tower a street away

I have investigate the Aztec mythology for the past 2 years, (still researching about it) some part of the story is not how its really told, for example like the four Tezcatlipocas, they mentioned the wrong ones, Irz actually Huitzilopochtli the blue tezcatlipoca, also known as the humming bird of the south, and Mictalntecuhtli isn't one of them and they also forgot to mention about cipactli, a monster that was a clue to create the world (according to the myth) and the suns arent really in order, its first Tezcatlipoca, Quetzalcoatl, Tlaloc, Chalchiuhtlicue and last is Huitzilopochtli or Tonatiuh (depending which version of the myth is) and about how the suns changed, its more complicated than how it is explained, but yeah certain things are different but i still like how they made it
there's many versions of their creation story, the mexica are known to change their origin narrative

This was a great video, thanks .
The poor voice acting, once you get used to it, actually helps the creepy, strange feel of the production

Did you even read the Borgia and Florent Codices which jotted down the Nahua/Aztlan/Aztecs mythology?

Can't stop watching it again and again
Thing with all of this is most people process this with the format of most "religions" hells heavens Gods this is far from that once you lose that mentally this will be clearer. The Europeans could not understand it, so much of this is turn into a format they know. The Mexica did not pray to no "god" they respect and honors aspect of the creator that where visible (wind-Quetzacoatl,rain-Tlaloc)and gave them images and names to honor and respect.
Truth. Same as Kemet. Peace to you
Thats why I tell people I am not religious i am spiritual

I sometimes wonder if the 5 suns is a story showing the 5 layers of atmosphere acting as dynodes in a model of earth similar to a PMT or electron multiplier. The sun rotates 5 speeds and I wonder if our moon shows where we're At in this scale. Close to the equator right now possibly which may be an alignment to propel the magnified light.
NOPE, it is a partial allegoric true account of human history on Earth. The Sun we have was NOT there before, planet Saturn was once our sun, much dimmer, would not burn and no days, always dim light.
Maybe it is the story of creation. When they were not satisfied with what they created they destroyed it all and began again.

My brother in christ, YOU made the earth!
Wait why does his mask come off at 8:47
It is probably some type of cultural thing from the Aztecs lost to time, my guess would be he’s trying to be very genuine so he’s taking off something that hides his face which is a vector for emotion
Very interesting that in this version the Turkey people eat corn but in another, marsh reed. Anyone with relevant information would be greatly appreciated!
Captions would be helpful so that we can see the names ...
