the Hitman games truly are unlike any other game, honestly its basically the closest thing you have to a video game like westworld where you can throw the NPCs off their usual loops and change how events play out. its as much about social engineering as it is about stealth and assassination. I highly recommend watching the noclip documentary where they talk about level design because they thought it out to the point where 2 characters who are usually never supposed to meet can be secretly engineered to bump into each other and they bothered to create special events and dialogue just for that fringe case interaction.
I don't think we will ever see again an epic experience like Shadow of the Colossus. The crazy mix of feelings I had every time I was facing one of the Colossus is impossible to replicate.

Imagine you killing a random orc, and 20 minutes later, you get ambushed by him coming back to life, or even fight his random brother who’s mad bc you killed his sibling. Something so simple yet EXTREMELY effective 🔥
Control is prety unique both gameplay and storytelling wise. Remedy has used live action footage in games before but it's not very common in general, especially with their surreal approach to storytelling. Gameplay wise it feels a lot like a 3D Metroidvania in terms of structure and the combination of gunplay and telekinetic powers is fairly unique.
Necro'ing because I'm literally playing Control right now (working on Foundation) and I have to agree. It's such an incredibly unique game that I've never experienced anything quite like it. I can see so many inspirations from other media but no game has incorporated said media. Also the Alan Wake connection is 🤌
The whole time I was watching I was thinking "There's no way this list leaves out Katamari" haha. Good list dude, I definitely think you nailed it with all these titles.
Saw my friend play Shadow of the Colossus on a Friday, bought a PS2 and Shadows of the Colossus the next day. Loved it, an experience like no other. Still get chills from the soundtrack.
Little surprised there was no mention of shadows of Mordor/war and the nemesis system. It is really too bad it can’t be used more widely. But it makes playing such a unique experience.
They patented the nemesis system and are definitely working on more games with it. Whether it's in the same universe or not, I don't think we know yet.
I don't know if you could consider Fable. But the mix of it all; with the beautiful soundtracks, quirky dialogue, magic system and story... it was a unique experience for me. "Oh look, it's Chickenchaser".
Love most of your list, especially your bonus choices. Other titles I would submit for this list's consideration: Abe's Oddysee (first teamspeak), Okami (stop-action art manipulation of the environment affecting gameplay), Burnout (scored crash creation taken to an artform).
I love gameranx. Not anything bad towards the other guys, but when a video starts with “hey folks it’s falcon” immediately +3 points towards a good video. Love that guy lol
That’s one game I haven’t played yet, due to everyone saying it’s a walking simulator Fed Ex delivery game. It turned me off completely. Still kinda curious about it tho
@@CityHustleHD its a cool game if you wanna just chill, the environments can be pretty nice, but you would definitely have to go into it with an open mind imo
@cityhustleHD Yeah the game is about delivering packages and traveling from 1 point to another but it actually makes it fun. I've never had a game make me feel so connected to the world. Like every single step your character takes matters depending on the Incline, texture of the surface you're walking on etc. You can actually control how your character shifts his weight in order to balance and choose how you want to set up your pack and your cargo and all of that matters. The world is as close to photo realistic as I've ever seen as well. There are dangerous things and enemy encounters (that look really amazing) but mostly the game is just you travelling through serene and surreal landscapes which I think is cool. The online features sort of remind me of dark souls mechanics where you could leave messages for others, because in this game you're on a journey alone and isolated but structures that you and other players build (ladders, bridges, buildings etc.) appear in each other's game worlds so overtime the world transforms from being barren to being filled with technology built by a community of players helping each other by leaving supplies without ever directly meeting each other. Something about it just feels so mysterious and cool. There's really nothing else like it and I think it's just a little bit too ahead of its time and artistic for a lot of gamers but if you are open to the sort of experience it's trying to give you its very cool.
@@CityHustleHD I was one of them, picked it up cheap and once it got going I was hooked. It might depend on your love for Kojima. I am not a fanboy, but I do enjoy his games more often than not. Honestly, if it is cheap buy it, play it, decide for yourself. just give it some time.
@@CityHustleHD dude orders a pizza on a tight delivery time and you find yourself running throughout a whole region with a pizza carton on your hand in a muddy place and then a rocky wasteland with angry people shooting at you or beat you up trying to rob you. 10/10 would play again.

Best advice I can give you as someone who's managed to attain Silent Assassin in a good amount of locations, be patient and save often, know which disguises are allowed where and what they're allowed to carry. Make sure you don't trespass. I'm so proud that on my first attempt of playing Dubai, I got Silent Assassin. I will also recommend the channel MrFreeze2244 for described Hitman guides. Good luck on becoming a more versatile player
You never mention Spiritfarer in any of these listings. And it's really something else. It's first description I read was something like "a farming-management game about dying" and it is accurate! But it's also so much more! The controls are the best I've ever seen in a platformer, the graphics and animations are beautiful and smooth, the story is deep and a bit sad, but also heartwarming. It's not punishing, but a bit challenging from time to time, so you don't get bored. It's entry level is perfect - you can take it up with a gamepad even if you never used one and still feel like a pro. And don't let me start on the couch co-op. It is simply the best. You can play relaxed, you can play more active. No stupid shooting, no repetitive logical riddles. You just... play and enjoy it.
Ghostwire tokyo seemed like such an amazing concept when it first announced; the atmosphere looked incredible in the trailers. I wish it became more than it was.
Maaan I remember one Driver game. I think it was 3 or something where you could get out the car but also the eras changed. Like the cars changed but also everything from the weapons how your character looked, the customization options. It just felt refreshing and so new being able to play a game like that and also being able to go back to either the past or present(future)
Really happy to see the inclusion of Brothers: A Take of Two Sons. That game is such an amazing concept. I got my brother hooked on that after randomly stumbling across it years ago. That development studio is so awesome. My brother lives on the opposite coast as me, but we've played through A Way Out and It Takes Two together. It really is such a great bonding experience. Though we're about 3,000 miles away, for a couple days when Hazelight Studios releases a new game. It's almost like we are still kids playing split screen on our parents couch. I really appreciate what they studio is doing for the gaming industry. Couch co-op is some of the most fun you can have in gaming. It's sad that Gen Z doesn't really get to experience that as every game wants to focus on multiplayer because that's where the money is. I really hope some other studios start trying to follow in their footsteps. I just hope they don't half ass it.
I remember playing the OG God Of War back in the day when they were brand new. I will 100% that the GoD reboot and GoD Ragnarok are leaps and bounds better than the originals.
The Middle Earth: Shadow of War and Shadow of Mordor are unique in their own right, especially because of the nemesis system, kinda sad they didn't get some recognition
They are unique soley because of the nemesis system, and it's weird gameranx didn't include them on the list. Especially because publisher of those games patented that system so it can't be reused by any other game dev studio. Especially considering the work and detail and the research they did for the game. You can find a video that’s HOURS long that shows behind the scenes for the game being made and that really made me interested. I can't believe Superhot didn't make the list. That is definitely a very very unique game. Another omission would be Beat Saber. I guess it's somewhat similar to Guitar Hero or Rockband. It is THE VR game. Easy to learn hard to master. Some of the most fun I ever had with VR was showing other people that game. Seeing adults face light up like they are kids is amazing. My mom hadn't played games since Super Mario on SNES but she fucking loved playing Beat Saber on the Quest 2 when I brought it over on Christmas. That game is amazing.
I can't believe someone didn't watch the intro... He said right at the start they weren't covering indie games otherwise the list wouldn't end. It's AAA only, my dude.

Brothers a tale of two sons is actually so under rated and I have played it, it's just present a beautiful story in it's weird yet unique way. Definitely give it a chance
7:00 A lot of people don't know this, but Splatoon was actually inspired by another game called De Blob, where you play as a Blob and you have to colour the entire city which has been turned white. There are bad grey blobs who will make you lose your colour if they touch you and you have to find another colour or else you will undo all your hard work.
Can't believe you didn't mention A Plague Tale Requiem 😢, I mean... It's so weird, but at the same time is a master piece, then when you think about it and you want to recommend it to someone else that doesn't know anything about it, you just realize its hard to tell why this game is so good when it's about rats and creating a path of light where you can go through? Your weapons are so weird, I mean, extinguish torches so rats can eat your enemies? Yeah... Pretty weird game... But like I said, its a master piece imo, I really think it should have had a good spot in your list

Awesome list! Shadow of the colossus is a classic. The story is a little bit dull and confusing in my opinion. but still fighting those monsters is so much fun! I just wish we had more lore. I really hope that we get a sequel to this game one day.
God Of War 2018 isn't a reboot, it directly addresses and includes characters from the previous titles. But I do agree, it is quite different. And I love it😁
Everything you said about the freestyle assassination mechanics of Hitman is applicable to the Dishonored series as well, which has an even more unique painterly steampunk aesthetic.
Another really unique and very underrated game is Close Combat: First to Fight. it's an FPS game where you control squad of 4, and you can execute this very cool (based on real life marine training) tactics. I thought it was brilliant, sadly it didn't make enough money to warrant a seequal
I'm so glad that Bullly is shown some love on this channel from time to time. I fucking love that game and it's such a tragedy that we never got a sequel.
I feel like a game that could've been on this list is Fable. It inspired so many mechanics in games, and yet the reknown system along with how you interact with the world and the npcs feels so unique. I haven't felt the same level of charm in most other games.

@@thevideocommenter3061no it can't
the Hitman games truly are unlike any other game, honestly its basically the closest thing you have to a video game like westworld where you can throw the NPCs off their usual loops and change how events play out. its as much about social engineering as it is about stealth and assassination.
We could, every new game trailer that has any sort of new aesthetic still makes me imagine the custom mechanics that the game could undertake but they just don't spend the time they just blend models there's only a handful of original games released every year among the hundreds
Ez masterpiece. I played it for the first time this year and i was amazed. Cant imagine playing this in 2005
I haven't played it, but Praey for the Gods is an indie game inspired by Shadow of the Colossus.
@@Shaesi. Yes I followed that game a few years ago but never checked it out. Might try it, looks like they managed to make a pretty unique thing. But still, Shadow gave me that weird feeling of pure adrenaline mixed with sorrow, it hits very hard.
@@efc2097 Same, I played it for the first time on the PS3, alongside with ICO, and I was completely blown away. Playing it on the PS2 must have been crazy.
Wow, throwback to Shadow of the Colossus. Glad to see it getting some love
I love the Hitman game's they're my all time favorite.

If this list gets a part 2, please add Shadow of Mordor/War. That nemesis system adds so much to the game. Imagine you killing a random orc, and 20 minutes later, you get ambushed by him coming back to life, or even fight his random brother who’s mad bc you killed his sibling. Something so simple yet EXTREMELY effective 🔥
It might not be big, but watching the footage of Katamari Damacy brought back great memories of Mr. Moskeeto on the PS2. That was one odd little game
Control is one of the greatest games of all time in my opinion.
@@marc-andre2525 in your opinion ONLY.
All Remedy games are very unique. There's an atmosphere and tone and the feels that only they can make
Necro'ing because I'm literally playing Control right now (working on Foundation) and I have to agree.

I think Portal 1 & 2 probably should have gotten an honorable mention.

"We're not including indie games" immediately includes Undertale, one of if not the BIGGEST and well known indie games of all time....

Any reason you needed to have that "..." at the end? If you have something to say just say it...
Little surprised there was no mention of shadows of Mordor/war and the nemesis system. It is really too bad it can’t be used more widely. But it makes playing such a unique experience.
If the Shadow Of games get in, then I want Dragon's Dogma and its Pawn system on the list, too!
Fable was the shit. Pretty sure they’re making a new Fable too btw
Fable was different
Shadow of The Colossus is truly a gem of 2000s gaming. (Also katamari is perfect for a list like this 😆)

Love most of your list, especially your bonus choices. Other titles I would submit for this list's consideration: Abe's Oddysee (first teamspeak), Okami (stop-action art manipulation of the environment affecting gameplay), Burnout (scored crash creation taken to an artform).
You guys know what you been doing, and you guys do it with passion and honesty. GG gameranx team.
Thanks.
I love gameranx. Not anything bad towards the other guys, but when a video starts with “hey folks it’s falcon” immediately +3 points towards a good video. Love that guy lol
Wasn’t quite sure if I’d like Death Stranding, but ended up enjoying it quite a lot. Definitely interested in seeing what Kojima does with the sequel.

Shadow of Colossus is so damn special, man. I just couldn't put it down first time I played it. The music really makes it for me.
I'm glad Hitman gets a mention, I've bought all 3 World of Assassination games this year and I'm unable to put it down, I'm always finding new methods and trying to complete challenges. And when I'm really bored, I go on a rampage with assault rifles and shotguns.
I wish I could watch you play I need to see how people who understand the game play I get killed , caught lost so fast and get frustrated because i want to like it and i know i would i just need help.

Would love to see you do an indie list like this because Superliminal would have to be on that list
Thanks for your suggestion

Ghostwire tokyo seemed like such an amazing concept when it first announced; the atmosphere looked incredible in the trailers. I wish it became more than it was.
Driver SF is still one of the best games I've played to date. The handling feels just right, graphics look really good and it runs on a potato.

Splinter Cell : Chaos Theory is similar with co-op.
It was a great game and has a pretty emotional ending too.
I love only the shadow of colossus in this video, it's so amazing. The graphics look so cool and also gives a bit of AOT vibes.
Bully and Driver San Francisco were both so much fun

I remember playing the OG God Of War back in the day when they were brand new. I will 100% that the GoD reboot and GoD Ragnarok are leaps and bounds better than the originals.
The Middle Earth: Shadow of War and Shadow of Mordor are unique in their own right, especially because of the nemesis system, kinda sad they didn't get some recognition
They are unique soley because of the nemesis system, and it's weird gameranx didn't include them on the list. Especially because publisher of those games patented that system so it can't be reused by any other game dev studio. I don't agree with that but those two games are bcoz of that even more unique than any other game on this list
It's such a shame shadow of war didn't get things right, the first game was so awesome.
@@karakurakrole8006 that's really shitty, how can there be innovation if each studio just patented any new ideas? i hope that doesnt become a trend or something
@@johntimothyvalenzuela8146 yep i agree, this whole industry rests on shoulders of shared influence. But aside that point, on their own those two games are by definition unique and should be part of this list
I was sure "Minecraft" would've been on the list. And as much as I hate to say it, Fortnite is also super unique due to its building component.
The story in Death Stranding is something that will remain unmatched for a long time.
Hitman is seriously some of the most impressive level building of all time. So much replayability.
I felt like Hellblade should have been on this list. I know the gameplay approach has been done before. But never in all my years of gaming (especially playing this game in VR) have I had an experience like Hellblade before or since.
Especially considering the work and detail and the research they did for the game. You can find a video that’s HOURS long that shows behind the scenes for the game being made and that really made me interested. I study psychology and human behaviour as a hobby so the psychology really interested me.
Stray and superhot (vr too) also should be in the list
I literally thought the game will be in the list for 1000000% percent.
I would put Bannerlord on that list: massive scale 3rd person combat with unique attacking and defending mechanics + some kingdom management.
Basically just say mount and Blade, because banner is basically just remake of warband. And it is a good game
what kingdom management? the only mngmt there is are the laws/policies which isn´t really game breaking

"Won't talk about Indies". SO, UNDERTALE!
