I have a double sided buffer that’s meant for natural nails. One side lightly buffs and the other shines the nail. When I get a little spot on my topcoat I lightly buff it and then use the shine side. It shines the topcoat right up! Like magic!!! No need to redo the whole nail!

There’s always something I learn watching your videos. The first you encapsulated with the activator, I have never noticed that. The second thing is I was still using rubbing alcohol. I’d rub and then alcohol and then rub again, this is something I will try.. No more alcohol at least not rubbing alcohol LOL

Great instructions Chelsie. I remember when I first began, I did some stamping on 2 nails and even though I put the smudge-free top coat, I still kinda avoided the image with the activator and when I did the topcoat, they were all shiny except where the image was because there was no activator LOL. I had to gently buff and ended up using a gel topcoat
Gel top coat always comes in clutch 😆 it’s so much easier but shewww removal 🥴🤣

Thanks for these tips. I had broken up with Revel’s top coat, and started using their gel top coat, which I LOVE…but it yellowed really badly with my white manis this summer. So I ordered the regular top coat to try again on those light colored manis. I also may try that other Gel top coat you mentioned if it doesn’t yellow

@@SipAndDip no, I actually just use their tack free and the matte ones. I’m in the minority and wasn’t crazy about the glass shield. I’ve been swearing by it for over a year, but for whatever reason, it yellowed two of my manis this summer. Only two…but still. Bought step 3 again to try and use on my whites.

Brilliant content. Ur video just popped up, I watched it and subscribed straigt away. Just a quick question I've been using normal base and top coat for dipping. Do you need a special base and top coat for dipping?

Honestly I don’t blame you! 😆 I swear there are some brands of top coat out there that I just look at wrong and they get contaminated 🙈

What a great informative video! I have not tried my own dip manicure yet but have still been going to the salon. After only one week my shiny top coat has dulled. Hi Chelsea, the top coat you used here said top coat "gel". However, you didn't mention curing that top coat "gel". What type of gel top coat doesn't need curing? THX
Great question! 💖 so this is purely just the name. I believe it’s part of the marketing so you think you’re getting the “gel” shine. Their thinner is also called gel thinner but it doesn’t go in true gel products. It’s definitely confusing but it is just a regular dip top coat. Hope this helps!

Have you ever tried a matte top coat liquid? Interested to see what options there are for a matte finish.
Yes! I have tried Sparkle and CO’s matte polish top coat. I didn’t love it 😕 I have since switched to dipalicious HEMA free matte top coat and love it! It gives a velvet feel and does a great job of smoothing out the entire nail. Matte can be unforgiving sometimes and I feel like this one doesn’t point out the flaws.

Super helpful video, thank you! I have had a few issues with the revel top coat, I have moved over to a gel top coat, but I have had some issues with the gel top coat peeling off. Do you have any advice for that?
Totally understand!! Gel can be so much easier and faster 🙌🏼 gel likes a rough surface to adhere to. So when we buff them dip powder smooth, the gel top coat doesn’t have anything to grab onto. You have a few options!
1. Use a 180 grit to file the dip powder and completely skip the buffing block before gel top coat
2. Continue your normal buffing routine BUT add a layer of gel BASE, cure 60 sec. THEN gel top coat. The gel base will give the gel top coat something to grab onto

I need help! 😭 I've been following your channel for a few months now doing dip for a little over a year and have tried nearly every tip you've given.
It has been such a game changer in my lifting and how long they last!
But I keep having trouble and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong!
I keep getting this grainy white texture in my top clear coat when I'm sealing in my color but even worse yet my nail turns a cloudy white in between dips no matter what color I am using. I use sparkle and co powder and liquids, although I use the low scent base.
If I could attach photos I would, I'm sure that would clear up what I am talking about, but hopefully you have some tips to fix these issues? 🙈🙈

Hi, I bought my first dip powder set on Amazon, by Azure Beauty, and so far I LOVE it! I didn't know that not contaminating the top coat was so important, so it may affect it soon. The one thing it did come with was "brush saver", would that be considered the same thing as the last bit you used in the video? I think it was a like thinner?
Its a very liquidy substance
So the brush saver is different then the gel thinner. The brush saver you would put a hardened or goopy base/top coat brush inside the brush saver bottle. I personally steer clear of brush savers because once the brush gets to that point, it’s highly likely the entire bottle of liquid is also contaminated. I usually will change the brush out with a replacement rather than use the brush saver. Usually if the replacement brush hardens when placed in the base/top coat bottle then you know the bottle is toast. The gel thinner is great prevention! I add a few drops to my base and top coat bottles which helps them stay thinner and not get goopy. I hope this helps 💖

Is top coat necessary? I use clear dip only. I like a matte finish. Could I skip the top coat? If so does it cause issues with the dip on my nails?
You can skip the top coat if you’d like. So after you file/shape, you can apply the 2nd activator and stop there. My only concern would be them getting stained or chipping easily without top coat. For a matte look, you have a few options!
1. After you file/buff, apply activator and you’re done
2. After you do your 2nd layer of glossy top coat, buff off the shine. Cleanse with rubbing alcohol and apply another layer of activator. That will give you the top coat strength and matte look
3. Use a nail polish matte top coat
4. Use a matte gel top coat
What do you do if you forgot a layer of activator? (Distracted) My top coat is not drying and nails still look gritty after top coat application. How do I fix this?
I have totally been there! 🫶🏻 I would suggest buffing/filing off the top coat. Then dust it off. Apply activator and let dry for 2 min. Then top coat and let dry. And top coat again! Hope this helps 💖💖💖

Ohhh that’s a great but tough question 😆🫶🏻 my personal preference is dip liquids. It’s what I started my journey with, what I’m accustomed to and gel allergies scare me so I don’t frequently use gels due to it. BUT I also love gel! Gel polish makes art really easily. I also enjoy a gel top coat because once it’s cured you’re done. No need to wait for drying! I’ve heard of some who like the shine of gel but don’t like the way it feels on the nail. It’s truly personal preference and what you’re comfy with 🥰 if I had to pick my all time favorite dip top coat it’d be Sparkle and co’s glossy coat 2.0. It has a gel like finish imo. I haven’t had a contamination either. Here’s the link 🫶🏻

You totally can! So after you file + buff then cleanse with rubbing alcohol and skip the 2nd layer of activator. Then apply your nail polish top coat 🫶🏻

How.do.you get you gel top.coat to NOT peal???
Are you applying the gel top coat on top of dip powder? If so, gel likes a rough surface. So skipping the buffing block and use a 180 grit file instead. Then cleanse with rubbing alcohol. Next, apply gel base and cure. Then gel top coat and cure. That should help it from peeling off of dip powder 🫶🏻

So sorry to hear your bottle sealed shut 🫶🏻 I personally wouldn’t try to pry them open because I’ve seen others break bottles or have glass shatter from trying. It can also mean that the liquids themselves are contaminated. To prevent this going forward I would suggest wiping off the rim of the bottle before closing shut (both base + top coat). If you have base coat you can use that in place of the top coat for now until you’re able to order more top coat! Here’s a link to the video demonstrating the base coat as top 💖
