    Thanks for this video. I made it to the 2023 draft. I’m the GM and manager of the Rockies and you gave me some good ideas.

    Set up filters for these different criteria as well! Helps you remember the different types of prospects you're looking at during the draft.
    One filter I'll add as well is a "draft board" filter, using the 'Is Shortlisted' miscellaneous filter attribute. That way, as I go through and shortlist the most interesting prospects in other filters, I can then go to this "draft board" filter and compare who I like, narrow down potential picks, and see who is still available from the previous round.

    yes, ethan holliday is jackson's brother, and sounds like the (very) early favorite to go #1 in '25

    good advice. I lean toward college players as well all things being sorta equal. Have you started a long term playthrough yet or will be soon? And where is the setting that shows the floors in the ratings? I like that feature.

    • @pfholden
      @pfholden  Рік тому

      I just have the default current/potential ratings, so when I say floor, I just mean their current ratings. And yeah, started recording my long-term sim, first video coming June 5!

    Phew!! My heads spinning with all those screens whizzing by 😂 Very interesting seeing how you process all that information for the drafts. How long on average would you spend on your draft days?

      maybe 30-60 min on a draft?

    I need advice, thanks for the video. I had 5 straight years of top 10 picks and the best guy I got was a 80 ops+ AT HIS PEAK while my 1st overall NEVER made the majors

      make sure you are investing in your player development budget and have good minor league coaches.

      @@kidcrumpet3333OOTP undervalues high school studs. Yes, there is a higher bust rate IRL, but OOTP busts like 75%+ of top 20 hs picks. There are people like Corey Seager or Jackson Holliday, right?

    I don’t have the game yet, but what computer or device would you recommend for it?

    • @pfholden
      @pfholden  Рік тому

      Sorry, but I am not really the person to ask about computer stuff...I'd recommend just following any specs OOTP recommends

    From what I understand, we never get to use the actually important college league stats in OOTP. I have read many articles showing how statistics should be used when evaluating players in the college league, but in this game we can only look at ratings. I really love this game and have been playing since OOTP 17, but college league stats have never come up in player evaluation. I hope they can sort this out one day. Maybe they fixed it and I'm missing something.

    • @pfholden
      @pfholden  3 місяці тому

      Yes, that's right. The stats for players in the first-year player draft are pretty meaningless.

    I have better luck in OOTP 24 with HS pitchers than in past games. It is risky.

    Do you think OOTP places too high a priority on defense especially with the current state of MLB?

    • @pfholden
      @pfholden  Рік тому +2

      probably, yeah. or maybe I put too much emphasis on defense in OOTP.

      Maybe the real MLB will start valuing defense more now that the shift got nerf'd.

      @@pfholden if he developed like that, that's an Ohtani out of the bullpen.
      idea for video guide: the new international amateurs system. I've noticed so far (7 years into a test sim waiting for all patches) that the scouting discoveries have a huge swing in terms of talent (i get bums, atlanta found an MVP calibre CA 18 year old that went straight into their lineup), but the international showcase guys are really interesting. It really feels like going after the top potential guys is a mistake. It'd be really interesting to follow that side of recruitment for 10-20 years just to see if it really is a random lottery of talent.

  • @SheikhZanzibar
    @SheikhZanzibar Рік тому +2

    Did your scout not look at these guys? Most of them are average or lower scouting accuracy.
    Edit: I wonder if that's why Backus wasn't in the mock draft 1st or 2nd round, the scouting was all weird?

    • @pfholden
      @pfholden  Рік тому

      This wasn't a sim I was playing, I just jumped in to do the draft. So, for the spirit of the sim, I just acted as if they were highly scouted. And fwiw, when. they re-did the scouting system, there was a study on the OOTP forums where someone showed there was minimal difference in scouting result/accuracy between players with high and low scouting accuracy.

    You should use the 2026 draft pool instead. The known prospects are in 23-25. Plus. The 24 and 25 draft pools are terrible.
