    I speak for all BRAZILIANS, we admire VETAS a lot, congratulations to the group and the good they are doing to our planet. One day I will have the honor of being part of the VETAS family. And may God bless us all always.

    For all of the naysayers saying, "What's the big deal?", consider this: Each blade is 80 meters long. These offshore wind farms often have dozens if not hundreds of these turbines. 150 of these turbines equals the output of an average nuclear power plant with MUCH less operating and maintenance costs, let alone the safety and waste issues that nuclear power plants present. Add in the time to build a nuclear power plant and all of the other related political issues and you are looking at the wave of the future. Congratulations to Vestas for their contribution to modern energy development.

      Nuclear 100% whatever the weather ~ wind ?
      How long is it going to be before a rudderless ship is wrecked amongst these man made traps? god help the poor lifeboatmen having to negotiate the minefield of turbines in a storm.

      ''In all the publicity given to the opening of "the world's largest wind farm" off the Kent coast last week, by far the most important and shocking aspect of this vast project was completely overlooked. Over the coming years we will be giving the wind farm's Swedish owners a total of £1.2 billion in subsidies. That same sum, invested now in a single nuclear power station, could yield a staggering 13 times more electricity, with much greater reliability''
      Did you feel them pulling your pants down and boning you out?

      You seem to be confused. You say I don't care about humans, then links an article about how many birds and bats (supposedly) die from wind turbines. I care about the human race on a long term.

    H. G. Wells 'When the Sleeper Wakes.' 1910
    " The circular wheels of a number of windmills loomed indistinct and gigantic through the darkness and snowfall, and roared with a varying loudness as the fitful white light smote up from below, touched the snow eddies with a transient glitter, and made an evanescent spectre in the night."
    "They clambered panting to a space of huge windmills, one so vast that only the lower edge of its vans came rushing into sight and rushed up again and was lost in the night and the snow. They hurried for a time through the colossal metallic tracery of its supports,"

    Words that describe these turbines: Big. Large. Sizable. Substantial.
    I don't get all this whining. Who gives a fuck about some idiot birds or the view of a patch of ocean? Electrical power is way more important. Without it you couldn't be online bitching about it. Also sticking them in the ocean pretty much eliminates the risk of the blades flying off and crushing someone. My suggestion to the whiners: Get to work on an alternative or shut up.

      Wind turbines kill between 214,000 and 368,000 birds annually - a small fraction compared with the estimated 6.8 million fatalities from collisions with cell and radio towers and the 1.4 billion to 3.7 billion deaths from cat. It would be more efficient to kill all cats.

    Here a question: since the rotor is much larger it turns slower, so each blade will influence the next one less ( the tip vortex). this was at one point the reason why it only has 3 blades which turned faster on smaller turbines. since this is not (or less ) the case the larger and slower it gets, why not add more blades? make 4 blades(or more?), this would then even more increase the torque and make more electricity.

      Really hard to tell as they don't really tell anyone but considering the price of smaller turbines, probably about $10 million - from some yahoo answerer who owns a wind farm - "3 MW turbines cost about $4.5 million each or about $1.50/watt. Since the cost of turbines decreases with size, I would estimate the cost per watt at $1.25 and that should bring this monster in at about $10 million."

  • @jackfenn7524
    @jackfenn7524 5 років тому

    Sounds good. How much government subsidy did each one cost? How much torque does each one have? How much does each KWH cost compared to conventional form of electrical generation? Look across the English Channel. There are Dutch windmills with huge sails which would generate TEN TIMES as much electricity that wind turbines would, and cost much less, with NO government subsidies.

    • @jackfenn7524
      @jackfenn7524 5 років тому

      The bigger the blades, the more wind is needed to turn them. Electrical windmills must produce TORQUE! Wide sails would do that. Long thin blades will not, no matter how large.

    I'm a gen 4 reactor supporter where it gets it's fuel from spent fuel, soil or seawater excess power during low usage from nuclear power operating at yearly peak levels can make synthetic fuel from seawater that can power ambulances police cars fire and military and now wind would have a energy storage system though synthetic fuel it can be practical to use

    "Vestas ruins Vistas." Spread that slogan around. The world's already-shrinking rural landscapes are being invaded by these gigantic contraptions, which rarely exceed 30% of their rated capacity, require traditional power plants as backup, and often ruin the quality of life for people and animals nearby, or even at great distances in terms of the scenic viewshed. Where there was once just nature and low-lying buildings, we're now forced to witness towering industrial projects on a global scale. The original environmental concept of protecting nature from human intrusion has been shelved for a myopic zealotry to produce "clean" electricity. What does the word "clean" mean when so many landscapes are fouled with the presence of huge machines?

    • @LouSaydus
      @LouSaydus 8 років тому +5

      It means that millions of tons of CO2 arent being released into the air, that way you can sit at your ocean side house and bitch about windmills instead of having to move inland with everyone else because your precious estate isnt under water and you aren't being forced into urban living centers because food is too expensive to circulate it at will like we do currently.

    • @NoEcologyNoEconomy
      @NoEcologyNoEconomy 8 років тому +1

      You are oversimplifying the issue. There are issues beyond keeping growing hordes of people happy and electrified, but wind turbines do a poor job of it anyhow. They can't replace fossil fuels; they just extend them a little. A relatively small generator is housed in a massive structure, which is ridiculous on the face of it. True efficiency is green, not those monsters. If you want to live on a planet where both the oceans and inland areas are ruined by huge towers, you're no environmentalist. Wind power is a boondoggle, kept alive by industry momentum. Its power output is constantly overstated, the wind itself is unreliable, and shills pretend giant machines are invisible, silent and don't kill flying animals. It's myopia on par with climate denial. www.google.com/search?q=wind+power+opposition

      @@KGopidas now we are getting somewhere!
      finally someone admits blocking wind could be a damage.
      well houses block yes - but wind still there.
      windmills on the other hand takes the power out of the wind making it be not there or be there in a lower form.
