Agree totally - serious bassists must have one. Mine is a '76. Totally 100% original sunburst. What an acoustic sound alone! Decades of molecules being vibrated!
The ex-Fender guys were Forest White, who pretty much managed the whole operation other than sales, and Tom Walker, a sales exec. Forest designed the iconic 3+1 headstock.
First off, I'm a drummer, so why am I even here? Well, because I love the history of the instruments you present. Second, as a drummer, bass players are my best friends. (Sad right?) If I weren't a drummer, I'd play bass, so I'm a thumpin' Thursday fan. Lastly, as a non bass player you take on Mark King for your slap sample? That's man sized right there! Good job!
Glad to see "Thumpin' Thursday" back.....Sure it forces you to have to learn a bunch of new songs, using multiple techniques on an instrument you're not as confident with that's broadcast and played world wide but deal with it. You don't sound that bad and I like learning about them along with the other half dozen bass nerds like me who watch daily....Thanks.
Love Thumpin Thursday - thank you. Another great piece of work from Leo Fender. And really nice job with the demo, especially the Mark King at the end.
Mark....you cease to amaze me.....awesome job on a very cool guitar.....you play so many different styles......one day I'm going to go deeper in debt and buy myself a guitar......I'll drive over there so you can sell me one.....👍👍
It's not just the lack of basses that has pissed Carlos off. It's Marks shitty attitude towards bass players and comments about having to play them. I would bet $$$$ that you will not see him on this site again. After all , he has no problems commenting on other you tube sites
Fender jazz 62 IMO, Mark's shitty attitude about everything, including just having to DO these videos in the first place, has been very off-putting for me over the past year and a half. He used to enjoy it, but now it seems like it's become a difficult CHORE for him to muster up the willingness to spend 10 minutes at the end of the day, playing some of the most valuable, revered and, dare I say it...?...yes, CHERISHED guitars and basses ever made!! His enthusiasm was so underwhelming at one point last year, that I had to unsubscribe for a few weeks. Then, during the 3 weeks leading up to their Christmas vacation, he and Jen started becoming so stressed about getting to play some of the COOLEST INSTRUMENTS EVER MADE, I thought he was going to need a shrink to prescribe some Xanax, or something. He was So depressed about HAVING to do these videos that I thought surely he and Jen would come back at the start of the New Year with renewed enthusiasm, and they did...for about three minutes! Now it's only a few days before the end of March, and on Fridays they're already disappointed that it's not yet "Straturday" so they can be finished for the week! And Straturday itself has become so bleak-sounding from them that I'm beginning to skip the Saturday videos unless the thumbnail shows something extremely cool. Mark, if you're reading these comments, PLEASE show, if not some enthusiasm, at LEAST a little less disenchantment with this part of your job? Try to remember what it was like when you first started doing these videos, because that's what it's STILL like for those of us who DON'T have access to ANY of even the comparatively MEDIOCRE instruments you get to play on a daily basis. You're taking the fun out of it for at least some of us.
I just got a StingRay for my birthday back in January and it sounds freaking awesome. As for the songs, I only recognized Another One Bites the Dust so what were the other songs he played?
I'm a guitarist first and foremost, but I do like a good bass. A guy I jam with has one of these bad boys. He's older than me, says he's had it for 25 years. He's an incredible bassist, does lots of slap and pop. Props to Mark for not just playing bass like a guitar player
I had a stingray bass at one time best bass ever in my opinion. I just bought a newer stingray guitar, and a cutlass, and all I can say is Music Man's rule, and considering the quality, I believe an exceptional value. I love their necks they suit me perfectly.
Mark if you or Jen doesn’t wish me luck on finals by Wednesday I might fail. If I fail I will be applying for a job at the store. Trust me you don’t want that.
Sandor Clegane-- U dumb fuck..Dave butcher is not the looser here, That would be you, you said it and he did acknowledge your comment..so you are the looser..right
Sandor Clegane-- I found you, yeah ur 1 of those fairy types.. you gutless wonder u can't even use your own name... fuckin dork.. stay in your fantasy world
I thought the MM was developed specifically for the late great Louis Johnson, bassist for The Brothers Johnson and many sessions. He was Quincy Jones go to bassist and played on many MJJ sessions
That is what is I had been told years ago. Wish I had one. I always used a Jazz Bass for slapping, which sounded good. But nothing slaps like a sting ray. Course I only play upright now.....
#ThumpinThursday #1978MMstingray ***ALL CAPS FOR CARLOS*** 1) Another One Bites the Dust/Queen 👸🏼 2) 🤔 3) sounds like Michael McDonald @markagnesi slappin da bass mon 🔥🔥🔥 Wassup Jen 🎥🎸😎
Mark and Jenn..its my son Ringo, george john paul ( yes we are stones fans;) birthday tomorrow..the 17th. He is turning 5 he loves Ninjago and yellow subs....his dad those funky old guitars you guys sell!Would love a shout out! Cheers from Holland Alex Kingaby
Our bass player had one, if you step back from your monitor when Mark holds it up, I swear it's a weird, wooden toilet seat. One more thing. IF CARLOS DO NOT POST UP SOON .... I'LL PLAY THE BLUES FOR YOU ... AND YOU DON'T WANT THAT !
a little slap and pop never hurt anyone , well done Mark , its been a long time since you cranked out some bass and you handled it very well , I had a Peavy a long time ago but my fingers are just too short for bass , they sound so cool tho.
Leo Fender collaborated w/ Louis Johnson on the Stingray. Johnson was known for his thumping bass playing back in the ‘’70’s w/ the Brothers Johnson & session work w/ Quincy Jones. I’m surprised that they never considered a signature model for Johnson.
Still tempted to sell my 1978 jazz, haven't got any replies as of yet but could you do 1600 and a used Geddy? I need to add another to fleet. Will be in orange 4/17-21 let me know if i should harrass the flight attendants.
Holy fuck balls that’s my dream bass. I have newer versions just need an original now. Soooo cool. Let’s get our Bernard Edwards on! Wahoo Thumpin Thursday.
As a Stingray devotée, I thank you a thousand times for not doing another Les Paul Junior.
Long live Thumpin' Thursday!
Thank you so much for doing a bass on my birthday Mark! This bassist really appreciates it!
Mark don't let those big strings hurt your delicate little fingers. ;-)
1. Another one Rides the Bus---Weird Al Yankovic.
Roderick MacLeod Yes! I haven't listened to that in a long time!
Very well done. I agree, every bass player needs a Stingray. Beautiful bass.
Well played roderick, well played.
Roderick MacLeod so funny.....😂😂 just rewatched this.....now I'm laughing.....😂😂
Agree totally - serious bassists must have one. Mine is a '76. Totally 100% original sunburst. What an acoustic sound alone! Decades of molecules being vibrated!

Reilly McCullough i thought that's what it was but I didn't think Mark was aware of modern alt bops lol
HEY CARLOS, THUMPIN' THURSDAY IS BACK! #ALLCAPSFORCARLOS

Mark. You had groove! Good job. The tone on that bass is sweet.

Lonnie Turner ---another early user of this bass. He played it on Fly like An Eagle and Book Of Dreams albums. Sweet!!
Yep he was, i read an interview of steve miller that said lonnie had what was basically a prototype from the early 70's.
Thumping Thursday!!!!!! Alright. I good one too.
Not bad Mark! Love that slap!
Is there no end to either your talent or artistic embarrassment Mark? Another great GOTD! Thank you.
Happy Thumpin Thursday!

Good stuff, bro
Hopefully, thumpin' Thursday stays around for awhile. I'd love to see a fender bass IV.

Sooo coooool
I see that Gibson Barney Kessel lurking there in the background. Come on, Mark and Jen, let's take it for a spin, please.
Sweet!!
#ALLCAPSFORCARLOS
Every guitar player just HAS to comment how disappointed they are. God forbid a bass is thrown in every 20 guitars.
Will Pittman because bass videos are boring
Will Pittman dude no problem it's what I'm here for
Sandor Clegane some people like seeing the vintage basses.
Holy fuck balls that’s my dream bass. I have newer versions just need an original now. Soooo cool. Let’s get our Bernard Edwards on! Wahoo Thumpin Thursday.
